Too bright - Moto G5S Questions & Answers

Hey all
I wonder if it is me who isn't too bright
Just updated from Android 8 to 11 (18.1) and my Moto 5GS is working well though the brightness is very bright. At first it was on adaptive which was all over the place, bright when you wanted it dim, vice versa or would dim/bright at random times.
I have tried to set the various settings and now it's stuck on BRIGHT, burning into your eyes bright. Even when the screen is off you can still see the screen is light up, light grey.
Is that a known issue or have I set a setting wrong somewhere? (Never seen so many options to just dim your screen, much be a Android 11 update)
Thanks for the great work, it's been a while since I rooted and installed new OS on my phone. So it was a bit hard to play around with fastboot, ADB and holding my breath when it rebooted

When going into sleep, screen dims, but then lights back up

I've had the watch since tuesday, but am having a problem with it: when going into ambient, screen visibly dims, but ends up lighting back up... Tried several brightness settings, and it does it with all, except maximum brightness (ie 5).
So basically, when going into ambient, the screen progressively dims, but then brights up and ends up settling at the ambient brightness level it should reach when brightness is set at 5.
Have tried several watch faces, and factory resetting, but it doesn't change a thing.
Anyone experiences that?
Also tried setting brightness with Autowear: only the awake brightness is affected- the ambient brightness always stays the same...
For what is worth, it's particularly obvious with the Dandy default watch face, as it's the same in awake and ambient mode (minus the seconds hand). Set this one up, set brightness at 1, get in a low lit room, and then, I for one see the ambient brightness get dimmer, then get visibly brighter and settle there... Not that obvious in a bright room, but blatant in a dark one.
Also, I realized the watch reports the Android Wear version is 1.3.0.2176821 while it's the latest 1.3.0.2284253 on the phone. Same as, the watch reports the Google Play Services version is 8.1.20 (2283517-534) while it is 8.1.15 (2250156230) on the phone. Don't know if it matters...
Just turn on theatre mode when charging.

That, I already do. But the sun sets long before I go to bed, and lay the watch on the charger. And it's as soon as the sun sets that the watch is much too bright to me in ambient mode...

Autobrightness issue

Hi all, despite 3.2.6 update which has improved auto brightness performance, is still quite far from being good.
The problem is when the phone is unlocked directly under light or in bright environment. After moving to darker environment the display doesn't dim by itself. It has to be turned off and on to successfully adapt. But in opposite way, it works. When turned on in dark, it adapts correctly after going to the light.
It has to be issue within OOS, because on customs roms (cm,aosp based) autobrightness works perfectly. Maybe it is weird but it's bothering me quite a lot
Is there any way how to fix it? Other then install lux, which breaks ability to give permissions due to overlay error.

According to Carl Pie, OnePlus messed up initially on the auto brightness. However, they have rectified it and the current stock implementation is as follows: when you move to a brighter area and unlock the screen, the screen immediately adjusts for the light making the display brighter. But when you move to a darker area, the adjustment is not immediate but it will darken slowly. This is intentional. After moving to a darker area, leave the screen on for sometime and check whether it darkens. If even after some time it doesn't, then it is an issue.

Brightness issue

My friend got this watch as gift. Its fully dimmed and changing brightness level doesn't fix the issue. It has like 5% brightness of my lg g watch at level 1. It gets bright only when it boots up (on sony logo only then it gets dimmed again). Is there any fix for it? I reset it and wont work.
Hardware problem I suppose but it's strange the watch is bright while booting up...
If it's dark when set to auto and brightens if you manually set the intensity, then the photo detector is probably bad. It sees no light, so it sets it as low as possible. If it's always dark (after boot), you've probably got bad hardware or a bad configuration file.
If it's the latter, you might want to look for instructions on a full reflash of the watch's firmware.

Screen darkening at night on 7.1.1

I noticed my screen is getting a little darker at night after 7.1.1. I don't know if this is the expected behavior for the new version or something on my phone.
When 7.0 launched I tried the night mode enabler, didn't like it and uninstalled. Don't know of there is something left on my phone that's causing this.
The best way to test this is manually changing time in the settings.
Hopefully it is feature. It's not nigh mode (or whatever is called when blue light is reduced) but still better for our eyes.
I didn't notice any red tint, the screen just dims a little.

Replaced screen - now it auto dims so I can barely see the screen and I can't adjust it

My wife cracked her Redmi 7 screen so I ordered a replacement screen+digitizer+frame from a reputable seller on AliExpress. I followed a guide to the letter and made sure not to damage anything while disassembling, and the re-assembly with the new screen went smoothly.
When I power on the phone the Xiaomi logo comes up nice and bright, but it then auto-dims in the usual way as it loads the system except it dims to an extreme level. I mean it dims so much I can only see what's on the screen if I go into a dark room/closet. When the system loads I can navigate menus normally (as long as I'm in a dark room) but changing the brightness setting has no effect. Turning on/off auto brightness does nothing either.
It doesn't seem like there's anything wrong with the LCD, because if I reboot to bootloader it sits there with the Fastboot logo and picture at full brightness until I turn it off. I took the phone apart again to check if there was anything obstructing the light sensor and I can't see anything wrong with it.
Has anyone seen this before?
Thanks
