This happens to me too when I open my ebook reader. I think it started after the new firmware update. Maybe some kind of gpu driver issue.

Yes, I don't think your phone is going bad if it is happening to both of us.

Hi
I have been reading a few forums about the slowness of turning the flight mode on and off. Everyone say's its slow at around 10 - 20 seconds. I timed mine today and it takes 4mins. I have kinda got used to it, turn it off then on again for my dual sim to work then forget about it for at least 5mins before it goes again. I noticed this quote
a. Whenever you need to change SIM card start Wireless Modem application, choose Irda from the drop list and tap Start. Then tap Stop and close Wireless Modem. Now you can turn off flight mode in much faster way.

But couldnt figure it out or get it to help. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions?
i noticed a strange problem after i did the following:
1- Configure Face lock for the device and it's working normally
2- connect the device to PC.
3- after using the device normally for about 5 min restart it while connecting to the pc.
i'm not able to unlock it using the face lock anymore as the Front camera isn't working gives black screen even after restart!!! the back one as well!!!
i made data factory reset (twice) and the camera is back to normal.
has anybody been there or tried this before??
this happened to me 2 times after doing the same above steps.
can somebody help
in which mode do you connect your phone to the PC? If its harddrive, the issue might be that the camera cannot access the phone's memory and will not allow you to take picture.

of course not harddrive!
it's only in 'charge only' mode
also if it was like you said, after restart it should be back to normal but it doesn't
and its not about taking a photo, its about the camera itself doesn't work gives me black screen only.
This is the most similar thread I've found to my problem.
I noticed today that my camera isn't working anymore. When I'm starting any camera app the screen is black for a while(some ui elements are still visible). After ~10 sec the screen is covered in multicolored stripes. (cant link image since I'm a new user :/ )
The last time I remember it working was when using front facing camera in skype.
I have tried a couple of other apps, restarted and factory reset the phone with no results.

Tried to update to B117 using the dload folder on the SD card and local update.
[topic here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=46062184#post46062184]
The phone restarted, went to the update mode ... and then blank... frozen black. I just took my eyes off it 2 secs. It was writing yellow log lines for the update status, then it was gone.
Given the fact that I get not even a charging amber led when I connect the cable, it seems it's in "coma".
And since the battery is not removable I cannot do the tricks I used to do with my old DHD.
Any suggestions? Thanks in advance

I think you should download firmware for your mobile and flash it.Put the firmware in sdcard/dload/update.app. by some card reader. Now insert sd card and press vol+ vol- and power button. Install firmware and also go to recovery mode and wipe cache. You can access recovery by pressing vol - and vol + button simultaneously.
If the phone does not turns on then connect it to charger for an hour two and retry.!!
Thanks for trying to help. But ... the phone was frozen black. No response, nor to trying to shut down/power off, nor to charge (no led turned on), nor connecting to PC.
Entering the factory menu (holding + / - and power on) did not work either.
The only option that remained was to disconnect battery. But guess what? )))))
Anyway, I left it several hours ago to the Vodafone Store for troubleshooting. Now, I'm just waiting for them to call me back in a few days.
[Status update]
The phone is still in service (1 week and counting). I assume it's going to have some hardware replaced. If it was just a software issue, this would have been solved way quicker.
I am waiting to see whether it was the same motherboard replacement issue some others mentioned.

In my case before bricking it, I had issues when the phone was charging or connected to USB, it had incredible lags, even scrolling through the home screens. The firmware was B103 or B106. I did not had the chance to try B117.
When it was not connected to any cable everything worked very smooth.

It is clearly stated in any smartphone user manual, that when phone is charging, the phone and the screen can become unresponsive.
Never read the manual ) But still, it's the first device I have, which got this issue. And I've had a few.
I have just picked up the phone from service. They said the main-board was changed, but given the fact that the back plate, bezel are new with the protection films on them, I think it's a new phone. It has the B106 firmware.

i have same problems. after update(update was 100% OK) the phone turn of and after this not turn on. black screen. after 5 hous when i connect the charger was red LED notification light. after this i try turn on and red light turn off. now no any react
Sorry to hear that. You're going to have to go to service. Main-board fried. If it's under warranty you should get a replacement, most probably a new phone.
the phone was bought in CHINA. i do not have warranty, where i can buy mainboard?
Hi All
Noticed that the top inch or so of my screen becomes unresponsive from time to time. So I cannot pull down the notifications or menu. Also if I try to do anything else (call, text, access apps etc) it does not respond.
A restart seems to sort it out but none the less it is annoying and I would like to know if there is something I can do to sort it out?
Thanks for reading
Is there any type of screen protector installed? Please ensure the firmware is updated to the latest version. Please try booting in safe mode to see if possibly there is a 3rd party app causing the issue. Please see the following for safe boot http://www.asus.com/us/support/FAQ/1005163/ If problem still exists then we recommend performing a hardware reset including cache wipe partition. Please see the following: http://www.asus.com/us/support/FAQ/1011956/

I do have a screen protector but I do not think it is that as it happens randomly and rebooting it fixes it.
When I tried to boot into recovery so that I can clear the cache I also get an error, basically the open droid on his back with the word error so I cannot even boot into recovery.

When you see the open droid, Do the following.
Press Power (Hold), Press Volume Up and leave Volume Up.
You will enter recovery.
I think it is a hardware issue.
But still, try wiping cache and if possible do a factory reset (After Backup). Do not install any apps for a couple of days and see if the problem reoccurs

Thanks but that does not work. When I boot using power and volume up, I get the open droid and the boot options. I choose recovery and it boots but then I get an open droid with a red triangle with an '!' inside coming from his belly and the message 'Error!' underneath. From there the only thing that seems to work is holding the power button for about 10 seconds and that then turns the device off.

THERE YOU HAVE TO DO THE FOLLOWING:
Press Power + Volume up
And release only volume up while holding the power button. And once you see recovery, release power button too.
I find this occurs onmine sometimes too, the dead screen, not the unable to get to recovery. It has to be software as when you rotate the phone the problem still occurs on the top of the phone.
It is very occasional, generally after a reboot, and another reboot will fix it but just an annoyance.
Funny thing is, I have 2 Zenfone 2's one a 2.3ghz 64gb and a 1.8ghz(I'd love it if the transcribe error was right, 8.1ghz would kill anything and heat up the room like a fire) 32gb phone and the problem is present on both...

No need for the CAPS! All you had to say is to press them when I get the droid with the error message, I thought you meant when I first entered to select the recovery mode. Thank you, managed to get in.

Well, By CAPS i never meant to be rude. I was just emphasizing that "There" (Where you see the droid bot)"You have to do the following". Caps grabs attention.

Hi Guys,
I dropped my zenfone2 in water yesterday.. Just for 2 seconds though.. I found the screen behaving weird,so switched off, removed all parts and kept to dry. There was some lag in the screen. At night again kept it in rice jar and also dried for sometime in sun.
1 problem i am facing is, since yesterday, the exact middle part(about 1 inch) of the screen has become unresponsive. Rest everything is working fine except this. Due to this facing issues with handling the phone.
Please if someone can help that would be great. Or do i need to visit the service centre?

Satish

Half an hour or ten seconds is the same, still do that. It fixed mine but it was not because of flash issue, it just went off and never wanted to wake up again.

I had the same problem as you do and I fixed it with this guide. Also. be aware that theres a number of video tutorials on youtube, just type "zenfone 2 black screen" or https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BboYFzgg7Jo
Be sure you've installed the correct ROM according to your current bootloader.
Cheers!
