Hi,
If you click on the on/off button, does the ppc really turn off ?
In fact I'd like to know how works the alarms ? Because you turn off the PPC and something (a system process ..?) must check the hour to wake up the ppc, launch the alarm ...
So is it possible to let an application running when the ppc is off ?
I answer myself
The solution for me is to use CeRunAppAtTime which wakes up the PPC with an application at the time set. Don't know if the standard alarm use this function but for my purpose it is perfect.
Love this site
Hmm, except that if you keep the GPRS connection up when in suspend mode, the CeRunAppAtTime runs the app, but does not turn on the display!
I have also tried raising a notification, and the display commands that media player uses to toggle the screen, but these don't work either.
Does anyone know how to get the display to come back on programatically when the device is suspended but the GPRS session is still connected?
Many thanks
Matt

doesn't seem to work anymore with 2003 though. Except when the device is connected to AC power.
Personnally I used CappRunAtTime to make my own alarm app to wake me up with mp3. And it works well. If the PPC is on it just launches the app, if the PPC is off it starts the PPC (screen on ...) then launch my app ...

You mean that if you have your GPRS always on, you turn off the ppc et the CeappRunatTime does not come back on ?
Wow I'm waiting my SD card adaptater to install the new rom, mainly for the 'always GPRS on'.
A question for both of you: does the standard alarm work ? I mean does it turn your screen on..? Because I supposed that the standard alarms work with CEappRunatTime ?
Hi
Yes the alarms turn the screen back on when gprs is set to always on. And that was how I thought the system did it by triggering the calnot.exe and clocknot.exe apps using cerunappattime. Although I was triggering the app to run a second in advance, and since then we have changed that to 10 seconds that that seems to work ok, it now turns the screen back on even when the device is 'pretending' to be suspended when gprs is always on.
Just curious, why do you need an SD card adaptor for upgrading the rom? You can just use the usb cradle, of course you have to have a pc and all the software i suppose...

I did the same thing (sleep(2000)) in my application to be sure that all the system processes are well woke up before I start the mp3 functions. I'll keep in mind that woke up the ppc, when GPRS is always on, may take a little more time.

I just wait the SD card adaptator to save my actual rom, which is a French Rom, before doing the upgrade. Just in case because I don't think Bouygues (from which I bought my XDA) will provide updated rom in french.
It seems that the cerunappattime doesn't like waiting for the time if you set it less that about 10 secs in the future, seems to just run the app straight away, and that didn't trigger the ce to wake up...
wierd, put it to 10 secs and it woke up fine. Don't think it has anything to do with powering up the system as it is mostly powered up anyway when gprs is always on.
Matt
well I always test it by launching an application one minute in the future so I never saw that case
guys very sorry if this is in the wrong section

Im guessing by screensaver you mean screen turns off/dims?
Which ROM are you using and what screensaver app are you running?

yes i mean the dim/ blank screen
not sure about the rom but the phone is box standard no other apps have been put on it apart from this work application
screen is normally on, dims after few seconds manbe 1 minute, then goes blank (or like a sleep mode) however this sleep mode is where the problems start
thanks guys any help will be appreciated.

huh?? this thread doesnt say "htc touch hd" ?
how bout you provide a VALUABLE reply instead of this nonsense.
anyone got any update on this? i believe tomtom stops working also when this screen saver kicks in please help me out
as it is draining my battery life
How do your messages come through? Are they via sms? If so you can use an app called HD Tweak to wake device on new message. As for TT, perhaos invest in a car charger and then you don't have to worry about the battery.

I know this is not much of a solution but if you go to settings tab -- all settings (bottom left corner) and then in the middle tab (cant remember the name) --- power.
in here, go to the 3rd (last tab) and there you can disable the screen dimming and and sleep mode (first 2 options) by unchecking them
I am also using TomTom in the car at the moment and yes it does drain the battery...i think that asides from getting a car charger (they're cheap - just look for a in-car USB charger and use your USB cable), the best alternative is to let the screen dim, but NOT switch off. So let your screen turn off its backlight, and that should extend your battery life considerably.
Also, maybe try some of the solutions listed in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=483034
(i got that from a forum-wide search)
Good luck
ok guys bit more info
not worried about tomtom working whilst screen off that was just a example i gave, however my chaeffer work software does not ring/alert me when the screen is locked
now the software works via gprs and log's into my office server when they get the booking it gets logged into there system and routinly passed down to the drivers
i have a car charger but the problem is i am not in the car all the time, or near a mains supply only go to the car when booking come through
now is this a programming issue by the company i work for? if so, what could be done to correct this?
i am looking at some after market apps play around with them and see how i get on.
thanks you for all your help so far
I'll preface my question by saying I searched both Google and the forums here for an answer to this question but didn't have any luck. I apologize if I missed this being asked someplace else.
Both my wife and I have a problem where our EVOs will stay connected to the wireless network but after the phone been in sleep mode for awhile, it will turn off. The only way to get it to reconnect again is to turn wifi off and back on or do go into Settings->Wireless & networks and click on Wireless Settings. It will had already detected my wireless network and start auto-connecting.
Now, in that same menu option I have hit Menu->Advanced Settings and turned the sleep policy to Never. It doesn't seem to work though. After the phone has been in sleep mode for a bit, when I turn wake up my phone, wireless isn't connect.
Anyone seen this problem? It's annoying because I don't leave 3G on, so my phone gets no email/weather notifications when I'm sleeping.
Identical issue... I did some googling and found this might not just be a problem with evo.. someone on the nexus one had the same problem.
I thought I'd bump this post in hopes that someone might be able to give some additional insight. It's starting to get really annoying.
I live in Canada.
I only want an Xperia Play as a wi-fi only device, to play emulators, listen to music, take pictures, just something I can have with me on trips and use as a mini-android tablet. I do not have a cell phone, I don't plan on using it as a cell phone, I don't really like cell phones. I never plan on putting a sim card in this thing ever or making a single phone call on it.
I ordered a Verizon Xperia Play from eBay because it was super cheap compared to everyone else.
My question is this:
Will I have to do anything to this device to use it as I have stated above? Or will I just be able to use it right away.
Thanks very much for the help.
If thats the way you want it, you'll have to disable mobile data, and background data. This will keep it from trying to connect to anything.
The cell radio will stay on for the emergency call feature. But this can also be completely disabled if you turn on Airplane mode. Which disables everything. you can turn this off when you want to connect to Wifi.
Thanks very much, that was very helpful and concise. Cheers!
Actually, you can turn airplane mode on, and then turn WiFi on. You don't need to go out of Airplane to do that....
This is how I use my Xperia Play. I don't have a sim card in it. I leave it in "Airplane mode," and then turn on WiFi when I need it. I leave "Background data" enabled so I can access the Android Market when WiFi is up. Also FPse needs to check in every now and then, or else it goes into limited mode. I think Background data needs to be enabled for this to happen. Airplane mode keeps battery usage low so I can keep playing.

Thanks for all these replies, very useful and will help me enjoy my new toy to the fullest.

Really? Didn't know that, thought airplane mode stopped thing from being enabled.
Yes you can turn on WiFi while in Airplane mode. It keeps the cell radio, GPS, etc off.

Ok then guess I'll recap for the OP:
Turn on Airplane mode
Thats is all. Aparently you can keep background data enabled, it just won't do anything until you turn on Wifi, which works when airplane mode is turned on.
Problem solved.
Thanks, at least I know I don't have to do major modifications. I had visions of a nag screen preventing me from using the device if there was no sim card in it.
Well technically theres no nag screen, but you will have an error in the status bar saying that there no sim card.
Yeah, that's not a big deal.
r800x doesn't require a sim card period lmao so you'll never get that message
Well that's good to know too.
Fine he'll get an error saying no network connection....picky picky.....

Actually I have a CDMA R800x that I use this way and I don't get that error. Then again I am rooted running Turbo Kernel with P.A.C. Man rom.
Maybe that's why?
Before I unlocked my bootloader though, I don't remember ever getting an error message. I do remember everytime I rebooted there was a nag screen that said "your phone is not activated would you like to activate it?" but the choices were activat or skip.
Hey folks,
Something strange happened to my HTC One X. Everything has been working as expected. As I was getting on a plane, I put my phone in flight mode. Right up to the point where I put it in flight mode, it was working fine - calls, data, everything. When I got to the other side and took off flight mode, it showed NO SERVICE. It will no longer connect to any network. I've tried several SIMs with no luck. I'm running CM 10.2 nightly builds, but I've reinstalled several different ROMs with no luck. Is my radio broken? Admittedly, I have been installing different radios, but I can't see how that could be the problem. It had been days since I installed a new radio, and it was working fine up to this flight.
If I use a tool like Test Your Android and view the SIM card information, it shows the correct SIM country, Operator Code, but no phone number. If I got to Settings, the IMEI shows normally as does the baseband. It just refuses to connect. Any ideas?
A month ago, somewhere in Vietnam, i put my phone in airplane mode while inside the plane. on landing i tried to turn the airplane mode off but it stuck in "turning off" and no network i was using a Vietnamese sim-card, so i took it off and i put back my tmobile one sim but that didn't help. i got stressed and i kept changing sims, turning the phone on and off, pressing the airplane mode button while sim tray was in or out , was trying every possible combination that i could think. after 30 minutes it found a network somehow and it came out of the airplane mode that was stuck. i couldn't believe it. Tho dunno what really fixed it but keep trying...
Interesting, thanks for sharing that. I have the feeling that if I were to go back to Spain, it would connect to Movistar again. But the question is, what do I do for the next two weeks.... =/
I will keep trying for sure.

I just noticed something else. My battery is being drained constantly by Phone. As long as the device is powered on, Phone is using the battery. It's like the radio is stuck in call mode. wtf???

I eventually figured out my problem. Bad SIMs all the way. My SIM went bad, and the other two I tested with happened to both have gone bad. Finally got a good SIM and everything was back to normal.

BTW - I didn't find this out until after I ordered and received a brand new phone, after assuming my radio was completely broken. I tried all three SIMs in the new phone and none of them worked. You can imagine how pissed off I was. Thankfully - magically - the new phone had a broken vibration mechanism, so I was able to get a full refund, and I'm once again happy with my HOX. Also took the opportunity to flash a clean CM 10.1.3 for a fresh start. Super happy phone.
