Hello.
I don't understand the current figures I read when I am checking the content of my 9 Pro storage, in the Storage menu, with the official File Manager and with others from the Play Store.
Currently, I know that except the few apps I installed on my phone, 95% of the used storage is coming from my pictures/videos as I copied the ones from my previous phones in the DCIM folder.
On the following screenshot, Storage menu says I am using 72.5gb, including 28gb from my pictures and videos.

}
Curiously, System storage is only using 1.1gb...
And even more curious, when I go to Other apps > Show System, I can see the "Media Storages" app also using 28gb of data (exactly the same size as the pictures/videos at the root of the Storage menu)
Thus, I have the feeling my "media" are using twice the size they should (I really have nothing else on my phone that the 28gb of pictures/videos), and I highly doubt that Android file system and app data are using 44.5gb (you can see on the second screenshot how much storage is using the apps on my phone)
Anybody here knows how OnePlus phone storage is working ?
What is this "Media Storage" and why is it using that much data at the moment?
Why the indicated System storage is only 1.1gb?
For information, I am currently using L2120 model with OOS 11.2.6.6 LE15 DA, but I got the same figures on the previous update.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Anybody?
I had replied in a previous thread, I have the same problem.
Obscene amount of storage being used by Media Storage, can't clear.
This seems very abnormal to me. Over 70GB is being used by Media Storage. I am unable to to clear this or manage it in any way, it just seems to be wrecking my storage. Any ideas what could be causing this or how to fix it?

The only thing I noticed looking by MiXplorer is that "Media Storage" is the owner of sdcard, I don't know if this is normal.

Yes indeed, it is exactly the same problem.

Is there a way to get ROM MANGER to default to the Internal "SD" card for backups? It always goes to my external card.
I know I can manually launch clockworkmod and select "internal SD" but I would rather do it from within the O/S so I can name the files.
you can always rename the files however you like with any file editor to rename them
and you can move the zip files around to either Internal SD or External SD
personally i like them on the External SD better to safe space on my Internal SD
I do that but like the convenience of doing it from the O/S. I thought I preferred the external as well until yesterday. The reason I want to do that is because when I tried doing a restore from the external it kept crashing. Seems my 32GIG card is flaky (as these cards can be) and I couldn't restore. I know it's the card because it restored fine from the internal SD. The internal ram, not being a "card" is much more reliable and now I am too skittish to use the external MicroSd for backups.
PM Koush or sent him an email for a feature request on his CWR
to let user pick where the backup are kept
I think I'm missing something!?
It looks like it's included already?

Well I'll be a son of a b .......... I tried MENU everywhere except from the main screen! Dohhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!
Thanks for making me look foolish, I deserved it! But I don't feel that bad since Allgamer didn't recall either,
not exactly, i was thinking more in the area of Letting you select a Folder you like.
i do know of the internal vs. external option
that's why i said i like it to be on the external by default a few messages above
ideally we should be able to pick a folder to keep all that stuff, i'll like to point it to a folder called "ROMs" for example in the root of /sdcard/
instead of the default
(titanium backup just recently added that feature, well more like they improved it)
Ok, so somehow I did something that caused my SD card to fill up. When I look at DiskUsage, it shows that the system data folder is taking up all of my space.
Has anyone else had this problem, and can you fix it?

I really need help...
I don't know what you did.... I compared my unit using the same tool and I don't even have a System Data section on my /sdcard
If you have TWRP loaded, you might be able to wipe your data etc... but I have no idea.
Perhaps someone else has an idea
Well, I dont have a system data folder, atleast in my SD card.
I am thinking maybe it is somehow attatched to the SD partition, but...
Anyway, is it normal to have 200,000 + files in your "sys" directory?
The tool you are using doesn't output very clear info and the graphics by themselves don't give you details on what it is really finding...
Below is what mine looks like. This appears to be the same setting you used, but as you can see, there is no System Data listed.
Are there tools that are more presise I can look for?
Ok, so I found a file inside LOST.DIR called 1048578. It is taking up 2.3 GB. Can I delete it safely?
yes you should be able to do that.
You most likely had a crash and the file was lost from where it was actually pointing.
An solution to your problem

its because of three things that regularly happen
1) Because of Browsing the internet System data gets increased.
Try clearing your browser cache and reboot(e.g chrome, mozilla, the one u use the most)
2) Because of opening gallery your /DCIM/.Thumbnails folder gets loaded whit lots of bytes. delete the /DCIM/.Thumbnails folder
3) Also because of transfering files from your pc to your phone one more folder gets loaded.. delete it its the /nomedia/
Plz Hit Thanks............. :good: :good:
The same thing also happened to me. Using the Android tool DiskUsage, after deleting many large media files via the PC, all of a sudden a System data of 22 GB was indicated. After I restarted the phone, the size was reduced to 2.3 GB.

You do realise that this thread is nearly 6 years old...
Hey guys
I've searched around a lot for this but haven't found anything that helps me...Basically recently my phone has been telling me that there is around ~520mb free left on internal storage.
Here's some pics from "Storage" and from the StorageAnnilyser app.

Everything I have (pictures, etc) is stored on my external SD, so I really don't know what is clogging up my internalSD at this point...
Also, I have made two CWM backups, which are not showing up in either internalSD/Clockworkmod, or on my externalSD/Clockworkmod as I have it set to.
Any ideas where they can be found?
Any help would be appreciated...
Thanks guys,
Elliott
Bump
Did you check under TWRP. That would be the place your backup would go to with the newer TWRP recovery.
I'm using CWM.
Use a root explorer and browse to /data/Lost+found if it's packed, delete everything
Empty but thanks...any other ideas?

Could try Diskusage from play store. It gives a little bit more info of what files are taking up space. Can be set to scan Internal/SD and if you have root, even the main directory. (personally never used the root scan) It reminds me of a pc app called Windirstat. It will even allow you to delete files straight from the app.
I actually just ran into this same problem myself last week. In your storage analyser app (the same one i use btw) change the path its looking at to the /data partition (the pie chart button). If it is as i suspect your lost+found folder is probably brimming with junk file fragments. This folder is protected even beyond normal root elevations and doesn't show the files contained within. I was able to use File Manager! from the play store, change the permissions on the folder and delete some of the junk but there were still some that it couldn't delete for some reason. I deleted the contents of the folder using the file manager in TWRP which supersedes the permissions on the folder, in CWM you can probably do the same with the AROMA file manager http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1952862. Its probably worth mentioning im using an AOSP based ROM and the permissions may be different in TW.
Thanks guys.
Disk usage worked great for me in ways that storage analyser never did.
I found my CWM backups in the root directory of my phone (not even in internal storage). I moved/deleted a bunch of them and problem solved...
Don't know why the backups are saved there but whatever...going to be saving to external storage from now on (where I thought they were being saved originally)

Hello, I have spent all day looking for this answer without any luck so I am hoping someone can answer my question here.
I wanted to upgrade my SII to the latest Cyanogenmod I did the following:
1). Downloaded and used Odin to install StockCWM-EL26.tar (CWM v5.0.2.7)
2). Using my SD card upgraded to CWM v5.8.1.5 (newest version I could find)
3). Factory reset and wiped everything.
4). Using my SD card installed the latest version of Cyanogenmod cm-10.2-20140330-NIGHTLY-d710 (Jelly Bean v4.3.1)
Everything booted fine and worked fine however I quickly ran out of app space. I noticed that my App partition space is 2GB where my S3 phone running the same OS (factory version) has the entire phone's space available for apps (16GB). I figured to fix this issue I just needed to re-partition the phone using a PIT file but I can't find this anywhere. Am I missing something or am I just stuck with a 2GB App partition and no chance of anything larger?
Thank you very much...
Taran.
There is no "option" to change partitions for this phone. Or any device anywhere haha. Its more of a procedure. Anyways a lesson in terminology doesn't help. But yes you are "stuck" with 2 gigs. But I've installed literally hundreds of apps before having this problem. You should look at app2sd or something. No need to partition anything. Good luck ^ ^

oh...
Thanks for the quick response Linux guy. I am sad to hear I can't re-partition the phone but at least I can quite looking around for a way to do it...
I've moved all my apps using the built in "Move to SD" function in the system app menu but still almost out of space. I'll check out App2SD.
Thanks again,
Taran
Here's something else to do. Go to settings>apps and click the menu button to sort your apps by size. I bet you have an app that's being a hog *pictures*

If I was having space issues the first thing I'd do is delete Facebook in my case ^ ^

Ok, time to start house cleaning and saving for a newer phone.
Thanks again.

Check the apps that use any type of avi/avatar image...Twitter, Facebook tend to Cache images and sap storage as well, each app selected will show you the cached size

Thanks again for the replies. After a bit of looking around I ended up using Link2SD by Bulent Akpinar. So far that has solved all the issues I was having with space (seems to work a lot better then the built in "Phone to SD" did).
Take care...
After update to android 11 on s20 ultra everytime i boot the phone i get the message "insufficient storage!". I dont know why i get this, i have a lot of space available

Anyone knows how to fix it?
I cleared cache from google (read somewhere it would solve it) and still the same, moved some apps to sd card and nothing (btw on sd card i have about 60gb available)
Since this is the section of S21 series, you should post in the relevant section.
