Question A12 beta on OP 9 Pro? - OnePlus 9 Pro

Hi all. Coming from the world of pixel phones, I was used to flashing betas pretty regularly.
Do OP phones get this ability to join the beta program? I have the TMobile variant currently, with a locked bootloader. My phone isn't paid off yet, not sure if I can get the bootloader unlocked.
Thanks for any and all info.

They were in the last beta idk about you rooting your device on TMobile. But OnePlus does not void warranty if the device is unlocked

There was about 9 Beta's available for the OnePlus 8 Pro over the last year...

I saw a video on youtube about Oxygen OS 12 Android 12. So i guess is not far from our phones.

There's always a beta ring for OnePlus phones, they usually start releasing previews right before Google releases their final version to the Pixel phones so it'll be a while off yet.

Why Custom Rom development is totally off??

Almost all custom Roms are not even updated since last year. The custom Rom or Android development for Honor 8 Pro is totally off? Why is that?
Even after oreo release, feels like no one interested.
update: Honor released kernel source for honor 8 pro
https://www.xda-developers.com/honor-8-pro-honor-9-android-oreo-kernel-source/
personally, i feel that this is due to the fact that:
* many are happy for stock ROM
* stock ROM has got a lot of features and options for all sorts of ppl
* in terms of optmisation and efficiency, modern day version of Android don't really drain that much.
* battery tech has improved and we see phones packing bigger battery. so, ppl no longer than concerned abt battery life
* limited user-base -- so ROM developers are better off spending their time on phones with larger user-base, thus getting better feedback and attention

You are right, Thanks.
Just After honor ditch us, no chance of Getting future android experience ?
Honor left honor 8 pro.
Honor is fully focused on AI based honor view 10, the selected developer were given free honor view 10 handsets for its support and development of rom's in future. Honor has ditched the honor 8 pro.
The developers started working on honor view 10 and developed treble lineage os 15.1 rom based on Oreo 8.1 for kirin 970 devices.
Even the magisk and substrantum support is given for honor view 10.
I think this is my last honor device ??.

personally, i dun expect much since honor 8 Pro is a one year old device (using China's V9 as the actual launch). honor already launched a replacement device and if they actually continue to promote older device, then there's something not right with their strategy. so, it's only right that they get support for newer device instead, which is the View 10.
and the Q is... do i need custom rom? nope. i dun think i need it. and do i think it's needed for even View 10? nope... dun think it's needed.
many reasons why i dun think custom rom needed is in my first reply above.

I heard yesterday, Honor had removed Kernal sources for Honor 8 pro(or V9)[after its launched] that's a big problem also for custom roms.
Even in their own website the stock firmware is not available, no even it's name.
Stock rom might ne good, but Many people seeks for Future taste of Android. Honor already ditch us, The only way we could have taste Android p or Android Q using custom roms and now that also not possible.
Where as they are making sure Honor view 10 get erd party development supports.

i bought the honor 8 Pro because it is a good phone. great specs at affordable price. i din get it so i could get the latest version of Android. to me, so long as it works and it's patched (and while it's inconsistent but the updates have been coming from Honor), i'm fine with it.
and based on the above, honor 8 Pro is still a good phone. i don't really care about the latest Android version. what is more important is that i'm using the smartphone for what it can do -- connecting me. and it's doing a great job at that.

U r right, It will still be a very good phone with good specs nod doubt.
Everyone has their own view.
Some people's like custom development.
And Huawei doing open source for view 10 and removing 8pro(v9)'s kernal sources is really disappointing.
When honor8pro was launched, Huawei/Honor out up a show like this is device is going to get all the required attention and care. Instead they struggled with patches itself. Not even updates, fhey couldn't make working patches.
They looked for market and found one. That's it. US market is unreachable at least for an year or two, so a new strategy is to push as many devices as they can in current markets while lobbying for US market.
Honor tried or picturized a Xiaomi like strategy but went Samsung ish. Hardware wise 8pro is matchless in its tier but then there isn't much you can boast about it on realtime usage. They nerfed battery when some issues started its that bad.
It's a compromise device that has been further compromised. I feel honor is a sinking ship. They're severely dependent on marketing than letting phones prove themselves. They have paid Android authority and even Xda well to keep featuring posts or reviews about their phones. So that neo nerds or spec hungry guys can devour these devices and guys like these are usually the ones that are looked up or called up by less nerdy or less tech literates for their next best phone.
Such fake image doesn't hold long and easily shatters. Just like one plus which promised big things and promised support and longevity unlike google... and then just ditched all that, Honor too promised devices with better specs and better support but well... at this rate honor 10view will bite the dust soon as well, or if things keep going bad for honor/Huawei they might loop back.
Only time will tell. But for now it sure is bleak for Honor8pro. There isn't a way to jump to custom roms either. So when **** hits the cieling this phone will be a glorified remote control.

Honor 8 pro is the most neglected so called "Flagship killer" of 2017/18.
Shortly after the release of 8 pro, they had taken down all official firmware sources.
View 10 is view 10 all over the globe. 8 pro is just a 128 GB variant of V9. So it has been completely neglected.
When Honor was questioned as to why firmware sources were removed, they gave a dumb reply saying it was HQ decision and they have least control over it.
This is like being in Apple ecosystem. Very sad to see such a potential device being neglected completely.
Honor has suddenly started focusing on lower budget segment in India after 8 pro's launch. Devices like 9 lite are starting to see updates for Face Unlock and yester year Flagship 8 pro is still with buggy Oreo update which they cannot fix.

lol. why port an already working ROM. it works like a charm with only few issues:
1. some animations are choppy(doesn't concern me much)
2. no volte(i don't need it)
3. no stock camera(will be added soon)
4. minor graphical glitches. (doesn't affect the overall interface)

Face unlock

Just got a mi mix 2 delivered and updated to global 9.5.8.0 which I assume is the latest.
I can't find face unlock code n settings. Is it not available yet another in global stable version?

Smart Lock doesn't work in the lastest MIUI versions, but it is working like a charm in ABC rom
I'm going to INSTALL AICP. Probably it will works too.

You have ported MIUI gestures by Arasthel in AndyYan's RR. If you want gestures on any other rom you just need to use an app like edge gestures.
SoT varies per usage so I can't give an answer to that. Just try and see the difference for yourself with your particular usage.

I think gestures would have to be as good as miui for me to switch as they work perfect. If custom roms don't have same one I will have to give it a miss and do without face unlock.
I love custom roms on my RN4 especially omni but deffo need gestures as can't live with awful on screen buttons.
RR has the exact same gestures as MIUI and supports face unlock.
In fact all the custom ROMs I've tried so far supported face unlock, so take your pick.
Just make sure you install gapps nano or higher as pico doesn't install face unlock (yes, to have face unlock you need gapps).

Face unlock is currently available in the MIUI China ROM but not in the Global ROM. Maybe outside of China they are afraid of getting sued for its implementation of face unlock like One Plus was. The version of face unlock people liked on the 5T is the one they got sued for. The current version One Plus uses is crap.

And OnePlus didn't steal technology for its face unlock. It was patent troll garbage about illuminating the screen to make screen unlock faster and more accurate. The company that sued One Plus invented no technology or software that One Plus used. They were allowed to patent the concept of illuminating the screen which is ridiculous but since the US courts upheld it we probably won't get a face unlock function that works well because nobody is going to want to pay royalties to the patent troll.

I thought it was in China Stable but if it's not there you must be right and it's just in the Dev version. I'm running Global Dev and honestly it's better than Global Stable because it includes bug fixes that were implemented after the last stable build. You might want to consider the most recent China Dev if face unlock interests you. I don't think there will be any more updates to MIUI 9 for our device.

I don't think people are getting the updates on the build dates and you can't determine the build dates on the Xiaomi website because they only list build numbers.
Mi Mix 2 owners on the official MIUI Forum have been complaining that the Global Stable ROM hasn't been updated since March. The China ROM has received more recent updates.
What month security patch are you on?
As for the face unlock feature it's currently only in the closed beta China ROM--at least where the MI Mix 2 is concerned.

It's possible that you are right but you need a third party app to determine the build dates. Xiaomi doesn't provide the information in the phone settings or on their download page as far as I can tell. MIUI build numbers aren't consistent across phone models either so it's hard to determine when various builds were released.

Should i buy a Pixel XL Marlin for custom roms ?

the question is in the title ^^, for precision, i would say that, since i have a phone, i use custom roms, the last i had was the samsung galaxy s5, the thing is that, custom roms have recurrent bugs on this device, we had to wait a long time to get a "stable" oreo rom on it, for example, camera and fingerprint were not working for a moment..
so i want to know if roms are stable and smooth on this phone, thanks

Reason I don't recommend you to jump on the Pixel is not much development is going on, The Device will be EOL on P so Major updates will stop some of the newer budget devices will still have that 2 years OS support and much more custom roms that you're after I think it'll be a better buy, Pixel XL isn't a bad buy by any means just I think better value for your situation is to be had on other devices

OnePlus, where to ?

6 devices in a year ?
Hope this starategy does not affect the speed of main OTA releases for all devices in the future. I cannot imagine myself tolerating an expensive stock android-like device getting late updates.

For under $300.00 it's a outstanding piece of hardware. There may be more development when the updates stop. Keep in mind the nonnords don't take SD cards. Beyond that, finding something you can unlock this easily.
Finally got my Nord N10 5G updated to Android 11 last night.

Pixel Experience

I highly doubt OS v13 will be released on the OP 7T due to it's age - for some reason a Indian version of OS12 was pushed to my OP 7T and caused all sort of weird-ness... It frustrated me to where I cannot believe OPPO did this and forced me to go to Pixel 7 Pro. The only thing I dislike about the Pixel 7 Pro vs OnePlus 7T - I have to use an app, AutoMate, to set a ringtone for each of the installed SIMS while this is handled at the OS Layer on OnePlus (many other vendors) Devices.

It isn't.
1+ isn't going to be rolling out a 13 based OOS (or whatever they're calling it now) for the 7 series
