OnePlus, where to ? - OnePlus Nord N10 5G Guides, News, & Discussion

6 devices in a year ?
Hope this starategy does not affect the speed of main OTA releases for all devices in the future. I cannot imagine myself tolerating an expensive stock android-like device getting late updates.

OnePlus wants to cover full spectrum of devices

I'm really disappointed on the lack of development for the n10 5g. Wish I'd checked it out before buying

One plus is only committing to one update on the Nord N10 5G. Android 12 beta is about be released and I'm still on Android 10. Not very impressed with my first One plus.

This a cheap phone as one plus phones go. If we had purchased a one plus 8 or nine we would not be disappointed. I've previously had the flagship phones, but bought this on because of the price, so this is what we get.

For under $300.00 it's a outstanding piece of hardware. There may be more development when the updates stop. Keep in mind the nonnords don't take SD cards. Beyond that, finding something you can unlock this easily.

Finally got my Nord N10 5G updated to Android 11 last night.

Android P for Oneplus 5T

Guys i was wondering about android p update for oneplus 5t, since 2 major android updates are usual norm for the companies and from oreo its an option to support project treble if the phone is being updated to oreo and mandatory if the phone ships with oreo, now, according to this post https://www.phonearena.com/news/Goo...s-In-Android-9.0-Make-It-More-Closed_id101816 its being said that android p will mandate the support of project treble that means the phone should support project treble regardless of being updated to android p or shipping with the same.
Now the problem arise when oneplus couldn't support project treble with oreo update for oneplus 5t due to partitioning issues. If this is the scenario then theoretically oneplus 5t won't be able to taste android p officially (since project treble is mandatory) and will it end up being the case of oneplus 2 wherein it couldn't taste android nougat ?
Correct me if i'm wrong since i am on oneplus one and now, looking to upgrade and this time seems fit as oreo's project treble would revolutionize the custom rom's department also i simply couldn't deviate from oneplus phones, hence thinking about waiting for the successor of oneplus 5t as it would definitely ship with oreo hence project treble goodness or oneplus 5t could be updated to android p hence having support for project treble.
Oneplus one still holds good for me till date and no need to upgrade if it wasn't for project treble (and 64 bit architecture also).
So what are your thoughts on this ?
I think you're getting way ahead of yourself. Yes it's true that 1+ is not supporting project treble for the foreseeable future but there are two important things to understand.
First, having an OEM support project Treble does not imply that device will get faster updates. manufacturers will still control the compiling and rollout of updates and they will always add their own tweaks and skins which will take time. All PT will do is taking care of the Hardware Abstraction Layer.
Secondly, even though OnePlus phone updates track record isn't impeccable, they're upgrading the 3/3t and 5/5t to Oreo in a fairly timely matter so it's very unlikely that they will abandon two phones that would be around one year old without the newest update.
In any case, all upcoming phones from OnePlus will have to support Treble so the issue will be short lived.
I think that if they want to ALL phones can be re-partitioned for treble, it would however involve a complete loss of all information on the phone and effort on the part of the companies.
For most users this would be unacceptable as it would involve backing up ALL data , settings and contacts on the phone. It would be time intensive and require effort on the OEM's so these companies just go the easy route and say it can't be done...
Nice way of making a butt-load of cash off the next version of phone released too...
Just one company to get the ball rolling would definitely hurt all others if they did this though...
Oos does not even have oreo... And the open beta they call oreo its nougat..
don't expect it lol
Seriously, we don't even have Oreo yet and you are worried about P?
An official release of Android P for a Oneplus device, is over a year away, minimum... Most of us won't even have this phone by then, having upgraded to a newer one.
oreo itself is a dream.
I was just ensuring that the device i go for will be future proof. I don't feel the need to upgrade a phone until major advancement in the field, i still don't fell the urge to upgrade until it was for project treble which seems promising, alongside backed by 64 bit architecture, display ratio etc etc.
So maybe a safe side would be to wait for the oneplus 5t successor.

I'm in your boat. Despite what OnePlus 5t owners say, treble is a big deal. Manufacturers have already come out and said that it's going to make it much easier. That's why all phones starting with 8.0 will have dual partitions. If you can wait, then you should wait for 8.0+ released devices, or phones that currently implement dual partitions. Essential phones are already prepared for Treble, but they've got some QC issues to solve with their overall hardware, so I'd stay away from them.

yeah yeah yeah man, you perfectly get me, even i'm skeptical about essential phone despite project treble support, even asus zenfone 4's oreo update brings project treble but not in the way treble's to be implemented.
But the thing bugs me that will 1+5/5T be updated to android p or not since android p will surely bring treble support, because treble + 6 years for LTS for kernels = long live device and probably no need to upgrade phones that frequently.
I guess i'll wait for 1+6 then.
thanks for sharing same mindset bro ! :good:
OnePlus 6 will surely be out b4 Android P, shoot probably even the 6T, and the OP6 and beyond will surely support project treble. Patience is the key.

project treble means better lineage os support with minimal to no hacks (shimming) to get things working.
Tell me that doesn't sound good.

OP6 is supposed to be released end of March approximately. I would bet dollars to donuts, if they got their act together, it will have Oreo/Treble. Otherwise, they are falling behind the premier makers that will support treble, like the Pixel 2 does now. See what Samsung does with the S9 in the very near future, not sure if it will have treble. If so, it kind of forces OPs hand to have Treble on it's next flagship. Just a thought anyway.
AS far as 5T....well, Oreo is probably good enough for the life of the phone IMO if they get it legit working.

Yeah, that would be awesome. I loved my OP3 and enjoyed the OP5T, but I have to have VoLTE. That is a deal breaker, as I routinely have to tether my work laptop to the phone, so if I am on a conf call with the phone, I lose LTE and it drops down to H+ which is like 3G and slow. Also no HD calling, no WiFi calling.
My Essential doesn't have Wifi Calling either, but it does support VoLTE in AT&T, so I had to return the OP5T and go back to that.

Dev Support

Am I correct to assume that as far as heavy attention from devs, moving forward from here the Pro models will be the ones getting the most attention? The most development? I don't know how the regular 7 looks like as far as dev support but when I had that phone for a few weeks before selling it off it had very little. I'm curious what has dev's attention right now, even though this 7T has only been out a short while. Are they going to be mostly focused on the Pro models like the 7 Pro and 7T Pro?

Most of development will be unified the only major difference being the display, also both phones will get equal attention due to the region wise availability and non pro series being cheaper

Looks to me that the 7 Pro got the lion's share of attention compared to the regular 7.
Feels as dev support for oneplus getting less for every generation of devices, now with android 10 and its non RW system i think dev support will be dropping more than before

The case was different with 7 pro, Oneplus 7 was launched in very limited markets, also it was launched before 7 pro, as 7 pro was their main flagship last year and it got all of the hype and availability that attention to 7 pro is justified.
This timeit is almost the opposite , 7T is their main focus than 7T pro, that is cleary apparent due to the fact they have only one storage variant of 7T pro which indicates limited production supply.

If the 7T was just a few cm SHORTER (display) it would be the perfect Android phone, IMO. Perfect as far as balance between features and price.

General Support opinion

Want to open a general discussion about international support.
In the past few years Nubia have promised updates to its Red magic 3 series phone.
They have kept that promise, but only in China. China roms having a few Android 10 updates and even Android 11 on the RED Magic 3. But Only in China.
Internationally the Red Magic 3 received the latest version of Android 9. Then was abandond by Nubia international.
The Red Magic 5 series Devices seem to be following this same trend. After over 4 nearly 5 months of China having an Android 11 Rom for this device, internationally the Red Magic is still on an old 4 month old Android 10 update.
We dont know what Nubia will do with its next phone, but if the trend continues the 6 will be left behind like the rest in the series. Unless you're happy to install china roms but thats a different story.
I'd like your opinions on this. Would you buy a phone that will only see a few months at best of software support?
The red magic 3 had gotten 10 months of support.
The red magic 5s in particular had 2 months of official support, 5g 9 months.
How long in your opinion will the Red magic 6 be supported?
According to what is happening in the previous Red magic phone, looks that nubia is going to do the same thing, just support for china but not international and is really disappointed to buy an amazing gaming phone with poor support of software. Red magic international support just said we have planned to release Android 11 but we don't have the exact date and is the message they give us when asking about Android 11, Nubia don't forget your international costumers please!!!
They don't deserve our money, half a year of support is not even near what I was thinking when i bought this device. Never again Nubia

Phew, so it seems you guys are already having lots of issues, with the 6!was really looking forward to getting this phone but the never ending negative, user experience comments, are putting me right off.
For those who have bought the device, does the red magic moment (recording), work for PUBG? It stopped working for older devices in Feb when PUBG 1.2 came.
Nubia is a sh*t company with very poor support on any level. I just ordered my 6 Pro and it will be here by Monday according to Fed Ex. I was very leary but that 16 gigs of Ram was just too tempting. Ill report back here as soon as I get my 6 Pro in hand. I can definitively say that customer support is a big fat zero. That alone almost turned me away but I bit the bullet and ordered anyways.

Will the A70 get android 12?

Please can someone tell me if the A70 will get android 12 update? S10 is officially getting android 12 and the A70 was released after the S10, also it was a quiet expensive device so I don't see why it won't get the update.
Samsung promised 3 OS updates for the S series, starting from S10. It also promised 4 years of security updates (only 2 OS) for every phone launched in 2019 and beyond.
No OEM loves long-term supports. It's bad for business. So there's no official One UI 4.x for the A70.
But that's why we're here. Of course there'll be some unofficial ports. And it'll be exciting.

S10 series was released in early 2019 even before A70 was released and will still get android 12 so why not the A70? They said they will give A series 3 major OS updates like S series and then they just decide not to do that! This is unacceptable.

The official word from Samsung was to give their flagship Galaxy S-series five years of support, like Apple, that is 3 major OS updates, and two years of support.
The official word for phones released in 2019 and beyond is to give them 4 years of support, 2 major OS updates, and 2 years of security updates.
Understand this. The 3 major updates are only for the S-series (possible the Note, too) as of Samsung's official essay. That means neither the A-series nor the M-series are included.
That doesn't mean there's no chance we might not get Android 12, officially. But, even if that happened, it'll not be soon. That's how business works. Push people to buy the next phone.
In my country, I can trade my phone with an S10 for less than 50$. Maybe you should buy an S10 if you really want 12.

Samsung WON'T upgrade the Note 10/Plus to Android 13 simply because it will bite into their sales....
They want you to get a shiny new toy, not play with that cruddy old thing you have now, and not supporting newer Android updates with all the nifty new features on your older phone is a way to make you upgrade...

It was released later.
Yes, it came out later but as one more of the note 10 series. That is the reason for the request. I understand Samsung's update policy but we are not talking about a single model, we are talking about the top-of-the-range family in its day. The stupid trend of releasing 20 models under the same name. Then these things happen and people get angry and rightly so.

Lol, why care? Android 13 might be worse than 12 especially for the Note even if Samsung did do it
I'm still running on Pie on this N975U. Current load is over 2yo, still fast and very stable with minimal maintenance. Security is not an issue... what's not to like?
Upgrades and updates can and do break Samsung's. No plans to touch my firmware as long as it's fulfilling its mission.

I respect your opinion and the decision not to update. It is true that Samsung is not always right with its updates and personally I think that one ui 4.1 and android 12 ruins the phone, it does not run smoothly, it has excessive battery consumption among other failures. But, did you try one ui 5? I'm running the beta on my s21 ultra and I think it's one of the best updates I've tried in years. Without being a final version, the improvement is very remarkable. This is another reason to ask Samsung to update all Note 10 series models. Forget one ui 4.1 and its bad optimization.

Edit.
I want to emphasize that the only thing that is required is a signature. As written in the petition, it is completely free and donations are not accepted.

Thank you. I've seen Samsung upgrades/updates break phones too many times. Any improvement that could be had by upgrading be marginal at best with my N10+'s and more likely would be detrimental.
I have two N10+'s, one running on 9, the other 10.
That's what they came loaded with. I think the Pie variant is the best of the two. Never used Android 11 or 12 because I have severe doubts about scoped storage. Don't want it.
Be interesting to see a side by side performance test between 9, 10, 11 and 12.
At this point both Samsung and Google Android are completely off the rails. No desirable new flagships from Samsung and Google is still chasing down endless rabbit holes making their OS less functional and the user a slave to cloud apps/storage. Sorry, but I see no point in even trying to reason with either company.
No Sale, they both can just f-f-fade away...

Hi.
Did you read the petition and the messages? The note 10 lite is the only one that will receive one ui 5. The rest, 10, 10+, 10+ 5g will not be updated. The signatures are few and they increase very slowly and I don't know the date of the update for the lite models although I am sure that when people start to see the great improvement that android 13 and one ui 5 supposes the signatures will increase rapidly.
