Guys i was wondering about android p update for oneplus 5t, since 2 major android updates are usual norm for the companies and from oreo its an option to support project treble if the phone is being updated to oreo and mandatory if the phone ships with oreo, now, according to this post https://www.phonearena.com/news/Goo...s-In-Android-9.0-Make-It-More-Closed_id101816 its being said that android p will mandate the support of project treble that means the phone should support project treble regardless of being updated to android p or shipping with the same.
Now the problem arise when oneplus couldn't support project treble with oreo update for oneplus 5t due to partitioning issues. If this is the scenario then theoretically oneplus 5t won't be able to taste android p officially (since project treble is mandatory) and will it end up being the case of oneplus 2 wherein it couldn't taste android nougat ?
Correct me if i'm wrong since i am on oneplus one and now, looking to upgrade and this time seems fit as oreo's project treble would revolutionize the custom rom's department also i simply couldn't deviate from oneplus phones, hence thinking about waiting for the successor of oneplus 5t as it would definitely ship with oreo hence project treble goodness or oneplus 5t could be updated to android p hence having support for project treble.
Oneplus one still holds good for me till date and no need to upgrade if it wasn't for project treble (and 64 bit architecture also).
So what are your thoughts on this ?
I think you're getting way ahead of yourself. Yes it's true that 1+ is not supporting project treble for the foreseeable future but there are two important things to understand.
First, having an OEM support project Treble does not imply that device will get faster updates. manufacturers will still control the compiling and rollout of updates and they will always add their own tweaks and skins which will take time. All PT will do is taking care of the Hardware Abstraction Layer.
Secondly, even though OnePlus phone updates track record isn't impeccable, they're upgrading the 3/3t and 5/5t to Oreo in a fairly timely matter so it's very unlikely that they will abandon two phones that would be around one year old without the newest update.
In any case, all upcoming phones from OnePlus will have to support Treble so the issue will be short lived.
I think that if they want to ALL phones can be re-partitioned for treble, it would however involve a complete loss of all information on the phone and effort on the part of the companies.
For most users this would be unacceptable as it would involve backing up ALL data , settings and contacts on the phone. It would be time intensive and require effort on the OEM's so these companies just go the easy route and say it can't be done...
Nice way of making a butt-load of cash off the next version of phone released too...
Just one company to get the ball rolling would definitely hurt all others if they did this though...
Oos does not even have oreo... And the open beta they call oreo its nougat..
don't expect it lol
Seriously, we don't even have Oreo yet and you are worried about P?
An official release of Android P for a Oneplus device, is over a year away, minimum... Most of us won't even have this phone by then, having upgraded to a newer one.
oreo itself is a dream.
I was just ensuring that the device i go for will be future proof. I don't feel the need to upgrade a phone until major advancement in the field, i still don't fell the urge to upgrade until it was for project treble which seems promising, alongside backed by 64 bit architecture, display ratio etc etc.
So maybe a safe side would be to wait for the oneplus 5t successor.

I'm in your boat. Despite what OnePlus 5t owners say, treble is a big deal. Manufacturers have already come out and said that it's going to make it much easier. That's why all phones starting with 8.0 will have dual partitions. If you can wait, then you should wait for 8.0+ released devices, or phones that currently implement dual partitions. Essential phones are already prepared for Treble, but they've got some QC issues to solve with their overall hardware, so I'd stay away from them.

yeah yeah yeah man, you perfectly get me, even i'm skeptical about essential phone despite project treble support, even asus zenfone 4's oreo update brings project treble but not in the way treble's to be implemented.
But the thing bugs me that will 1+5/5T be updated to android p or not since android p will surely bring treble support, because treble + 6 years for LTS for kernels = long live device and probably no need to upgrade phones that frequently.
I guess i'll wait for 1+6 then.
thanks for sharing same mindset bro ! :good:
OnePlus 6 will surely be out b4 Android P, shoot probably even the 6T, and the OP6 and beyond will surely support project treble. Patience is the key.
Who cares about project treble and OxygenOS.. we will always have LineageOS. Chill...

project treble means better lineage os support with minimal to no hacks (shimming) to get things working.
Tell me that doesn't sound good.

OP6 is supposed to be released end of March approximately. I would bet dollars to donuts, if they got their act together, it will have Oreo/Treble. Otherwise, they are falling behind the premier makers that will support treble, like the Pixel 2 does now. See what Samsung does with the S9 in the very near future, not sure if it will have treble. If so, it kind of forces OPs hand to have Treble on it's next flagship. Just a thought anyway.
AS far as 5T....well, Oreo is probably good enough for the life of the phone IMO if they get it legit working.

Yeah, that would be awesome. I loved my OP3 and enjoyed the OP5T, but I have to have VoLTE. That is a deal breaker, as I routinely have to tether my work laptop to the phone, so if I am on a conf call with the phone, I lose LTE and it drops down to H+ which is like 3G and slow. Also no HD calling, no WiFi calling.
My Essential doesn't have Wifi Calling either, but it does support VoLTE in AT&T, so I had to return the OP5T and go back to that.

Hi All!,
I am a current OnePlus 3t user, and it's a great phone. I was looking to get a new phone for 2 main reasons:
The space on the OnePlus I have is limitted to 64 Gb, I am running out.
With the new Snapdragon 835 out, I thought I'd look for a phone with that if I were to upgrade.
So I thought I'd check out the OnePlus 5, however the price of it put me off. Having done some research, I really like the look of the Xiaomi Mi 6. However there are a few things that are still making me reconsider:
The reviews I have seen have commented the software is buggy. It crashes and stops working at times. The software on the OnePlus 3T just works. I've not had any problems. If I get the Mi6, will it be a case of buying a buggy phone?
Also with the software, I've never used MiUi, and personally I like the simplicity and near stock Android on the OnePlus. How big of a change is the MiUi and is it customisable?
Does the Mi6 have the ability to capture RAW images?
Thanks in advance! :good:
I migrated quickly to Xiaomi.EU ROM when I purchased Mi6, although I didn't have any problem with (fake) supplied ROM.
I've used my mom's 3T for quite a bit, and the stock Android feel of OxygenOS and frequent and fast update from OnePlus is the big... plus.
MIUI, on the other hand, has very bad notification handling. It feels like you're using Android 4.2/4.4 something. You can't swipe left/right on the lockscreen notifications to make them go away, nor you can't expand it nicely like in pure android (You can do it on notification shade however, using 2 fingers, but the experience just sucks). I tried floatify to emulate the notification in stock android, but it's not enough.
MIUI for Mi6 hasn't provided RAW capture capability AFAIK.
OnePlus 5 has released their kernel source, so dev can easily start working custom ROM on that. But Xiaomi has been notorious keeping the kernel source for a long time (about 6 months+ on previous flagship), that makes the non-MIUI based ROM harder to develop.
I'm currently trying to get LineageOS installed on my Mi6, I'll post more on that LineageOS thread maybe tomorrow evening or the day after.
There is always some plus and minus. I’ve been using Xiaomi 5 Pro and I’m very happy {:m034:}
I used to have One+1 and One+3. Both were great phones.
With perfect Quality/Price factor. Even with EU prices:-/
Now I had been waiting for One+5 and all-around I’m very disappointed wit it.
Reason?
USB 2, No OIS, Software AND Price for EU!!!
It’s not the Flagship killer anymore, it starts to be exclusive peace of equipment.
My main decision point (quality/price factor) dropped down rapidly.
I really prefer MIUI in comparison to Cyanogen (1+1) or OxygenOS (1+3).
With weekly Globe-Roms upgrade (http://mi-globe.com) I’m really satisfied. Mi 5 works very smooth.
OK., it’s with open boot loader and rooted, but all my phoned have been same way in the past
(and will be in future )
I do not remember what I used in the first case, but in 1+3, I changed it to Resurrection Remix ROM.
I agree that all Oneplus society forum support is great. Same with software developers.
I hope that here in MIUI world it will be the same soon.
Especially that after all comparisons of my own, I decided to order Mi 6, 6/128 one.
))
Without any doubt the mi6, and specially if you can buy it at 369USD in some aliexpress offers.
I just Got the Mi 6 pro. Fresh in my hand. It looks great, and feels excellent. It's running very smooth at the moment but hey, is brand new.
I have my 3t on hand.
I think most of the comments are correct. One plus updates quick esp of your on the beta stream, it's smooth and you don't have to deal with MIUI overlay - the OnePlus launcher is excellent.
The Mi 6 is very emotional - what the 3T has and the 5 does not.
Practically, get the 5....you know what to expect. The Mi6 feels great though.....!
I have to edit this: having had the phone for a week - the Mi6 is the smoothest, fastest phone in town right now, period, including the S8 Plus. It's very slick indeed, very, very quick, had an excellent camera and great Sound.
It's very difficult to put the Mi6 down and pick up any of the other phones.

On the same boat. I have been reading about the touchscreen delay problems, bluetooth connectivity and some other bugs and i am hesitant to do the leap of faith on mi6.
One plus 5 on the other hand has such community and gets so many updates that you are sure that software problems will be fixed as soon as possible.

If you find bugs on MI 6,you can tell the developers of Xiaomi to fix them.
I got both the op5 and Mi6, the op5 has an real deal-breaker with the "jelly screen" design flaw. As for now there is no fix and oneplus says its "natural". So the Mi6 is an better choice for me.

i recon that bluetooth bugs have existed with the launch and they are yet to get a 'fix'.
Updates for global seem non existant but on the other hand thats what you get for the mi series. Xiaomi is pretty great for international devices, mainly speaking about the redmi series. Rest seem to be left untouched(Mi mix, note 2, mi5 s etc).
I am gonna hold myself from buying this yet.
Im in USA and I have 2 Honor 5Xs running RR Unofficial with plenty of Roms to chose from its Launch date. The Honor 6X has the Kirin chipset and finally has picked up developers and Roms in their development area after quite a long time.
I thought I read that the Kirin processor had much less development due to the fact it was not open source like qualcomms from 5X. I may be wrong or ill informed of course. Will the lack of roms development be the same problem with Honor 7X? Looking to upgrade to Honors next budget phone. Please be honest. Thanks.
i wont buy another honor. the devs abandon it too much, plus the honor 6x lagged like no other. do what i did and grab a moto g5s plus for $279, its a great device with good development.
It will be easier for Devs to bring ROMs because of treble, let's see what they'll bring

All devices (H9, H8Pro, Mate 9 confirmed) that have been upgraded to Oreo by Huawei comming from nougat got Treble and the new 4.4 kernel.
I can only guess but i'm 99% sure that the 7x gets it aswell.
BTW, they usually implement the latest of the latest when it comes to under the hood android changes.

If you're a crack flasher, I'd go with the G5S+. I went with the 7x because it has a better camera compared to the G5S+ and a refreshing design compared to these other mid-ranged 5.5 inch metal clones. I'd gladly wait patiently for development.

Honor phones have vendor partition by default so i think it will get treble support.
Almost all custom Roms are not even updated since last year. The custom Rom or Android development for Honor 8 Pro is totally off? Why is that?
Even after oreo release, feels like no one interested.
update: Honor released kernel source for honor 8 pro
https://www.xda-developers.com/honor-8-pro-honor-9-android-oreo-kernel-source/
personally, i feel that this is due to the fact that:
* many are happy for stock ROM
* stock ROM has got a lot of features and options for all sorts of ppl
* in terms of optmisation and efficiency, modern day version of Android don't really drain that much.
* battery tech has improved and we see phones packing bigger battery. so, ppl no longer than concerned abt battery life
* limited user-base -- so ROM developers are better off spending their time on phones with larger user-base, thus getting better feedback and attention

personally, i dun expect much since honor 8 Pro is a one year old device (using China's V9 as the actual launch). honor already launched a replacement device and if they actually continue to promote older device, then there's something not right with their strategy. so, it's only right that they get support for newer device instead, which is the View 10.
and the Q is... do i need custom rom? nope. i dun think i need it. and do i think it's needed for even View 10? nope... dun think it's needed.
many reasons why i dun think custom rom needed is in my first reply above.

i bought the honor 8 Pro because it is a good phone. great specs at affordable price. i din get it so i could get the latest version of Android. to me, so long as it works and it's patched (and while it's inconsistent but the updates have been coming from Honor), i'm fine with it.
and based on the above, honor 8 Pro is still a good phone. i don't really care about the latest Android version. what is more important is that i'm using the smartphone for what it can do -- connecting me. and it's doing a great job at that.

U r right, It will still be a very good phone with good specs nod doubt.
Everyone has their own view.
Some people's like custom development.
And Huawei doing open source for view 10 and removing 8pro(v9)'s kernal sources is really disappointing.
When honor8pro was launched, Huawei/Honor out up a show like this is device is going to get all the required attention and care. Instead they struggled with patches itself. Not even updates, fhey couldn't make working patches.
They looked for market and found one. That's it. US market is unreachable at least for an year or two, so a new strategy is to push as many devices as they can in current markets while lobbying for US market.
Honor tried or picturized a Xiaomi like strategy but went Samsung ish. Hardware wise 8pro is matchless in its tier but then there isn't much you can boast about it on realtime usage. They nerfed battery when some issues started its that bad.
It's a compromise device that has been further compromised. I feel honor is a sinking ship. They're severely dependent on marketing than letting phones prove themselves. They have paid Android authority and even Xda well to keep featuring posts or reviews about their phones. So that neo nerds or spec hungry guys can devour these devices and guys like these are usually the ones that are looked up or called up by less nerdy or less tech literates for their next best phone.
Such fake image doesn't hold long and easily shatters. Just like one plus which promised big things and promised support and longevity unlike google... and then just ditched all that, Honor too promised devices with better specs and better support but well... at this rate honor 10view will bite the dust soon as well, or if things keep going bad for honor/Huawei they might loop back.
Only time will tell. But for now it sure is bleak for Honor8pro. There isn't a way to jump to custom roms either. So when **** hits the cieling this phone will be a glorified remote control.

Honor 8 pro is the most neglected so called "Flagship killer" of 2017/18.
Shortly after the release of 8 pro, they had taken down all official firmware sources.
View 10 is view 10 all over the globe. 8 pro is just a 128 GB variant of V9. So it has been completely neglected.
When Honor was questioned as to why firmware sources were removed, they gave a dumb reply saying it was HQ decision and they have least control over it.
This is like being in Apple ecosystem. Very sad to see such a potential device being neglected completely.
Honor has suddenly started focusing on lower budget segment in India after 8 pro's launch. Devices like 9 lite are starting to see updates for Face Unlock and yester year Flagship 8 pro is still with buggy Oreo update which they cannot fix.

lol. why port an already working ROM. it works like a charm with only few issues:
1. some animations are choppy(doesn't concern me much)
2. no volte(i don't need it)
3. no stock camera(will be added soon)
4. minor graphical glitches. (doesn't affect the overall interface)

VOLTE is a big concern for me. Atleast in India.
Ok, lets not call it port----, fixing those glitches.
And jst turn of animation scale?, no problem of transitions.

next aosp build by oldDroid will be much stable. but volte will take some time. we now have same rates on all operators. switch to some other.
Everyone seemed to be pretty excited about the 7x/Mate SE to have treble support. We have oreo and confirmed treble support. But what now? It seems like it doesn't really matter. Not that many roms being ported over. So whats up? Is treble support overhyped?

I think Huawei has updated a grand total of 31 phones across all the variants.

IMO.. Treble is more "Vendor-Friendly" than "User-Friendly" .
There is so much to dissect when it comes to the 7x.. why has Honor not released Nougat Firmware? this device was announced October of 17' and released December of 17'.. yet nothing.
Why did they *really* pull the bootloader-unlock page..
I'm sure, you'll see the Carbon, Linage, RR ROM's officially ported over eventually.. But you will not see the good old fashion "Developer Support" with the 7x. I mean not just ports but Kernel development.. and to be honest,
That's where you speed increases, better battery life, user-adjustable governors and features come from.. more so than any port is going to afford you.
That's where the 7x and it's Kirin Engine fall short.
Take a look at Moto G5 Plus thread ( I had one of those but @ 5.2 inches I did not like the screen size ) and just look at the development the Snapdragon 625 has gotten.. Even the Snapdragon 636 is already seeing a lot of love.. and seems like the perfect Price / Performance Engine for 2018.
The 7x is a good device.. just not a popular one.
Hi friends,
Six years ago, we created OxygenOS based on the idea that fast and smooth software is fundamental for a good smartphone experience. Since then, OxygenOS has proven to be one of the best Android operating systems available on the global market.
We started as a small brand, but since last year when our product portfolio started expanding much more quickly, we’ve come to realize that we need significantly more resources and a larger technology platform to make sure each product can receive stable and timely software updates, while delivering a world-class user experience.
After a lot of evaluation and discussion, we’ve come up with a solid plan to best leverage our shared resources with OPPO. In order to improve efficiency and standardize the software experience across our portfolio, we’re working on integrating the codebase of OxygenOS and ColorOS.
This is a change that you will likely not even notice since it’s happening behind the scenes. We now have a larger and even more capable team of developers, more advanced R&D resources, and a more streamlined development process all coming together to improve the OxygenOS experience.
OxygenOS remains the OS for global OnePlus users as always, but now built on a more stable and stronger platform. This will apply to new devices in the future, while for existing devices that are still within the maintenance schedule, it will occur via an OTA update along with Android 12.
Most importantly, with this change, we are happy to announce an improved software maintenance schedule for the lifecycle of our open market smartphones:
Flagship product line (including T / R): The OnePlus 8 series and newer devices will receive 3 major Android updates and 4 years of security updates.
Nord / Nord CE: The first OnePlus Nord and newer Nord / Nord CE devices will receive 2 major Android updates and 3 years of security updates.
Nord N series: Starting from N10 and N100, all N series devices will receive 1 major Android update and 3 years of security updates.
(Note: Flagship devices released prior to the OnePlus 8 series will follow the previous schedule of 2 major Android updates and 3 years of security updates. Software update plans for carrier versions will follow the requirements of our carrier partners.)
We believe that OxygenOS will continue to offer the best Android experience possible for you. Thanks for your continued feedback and support.

Let's hope Oxygen forms the larger part since Color OS is NOT popular at all.
Also means that we will get 3 yrs of OS updates and 4 yrs of security updates.
Merging the 2 might just be good for custom development since there will be more devs working on a standard codebase.
how to go to lastest color os from 11.2.8.8 ? must wipe data ?

Well the language seems to imply that oxygen will be the base and color os will just be merging in backend stuff, which as long as it doesnt start adding proprietary chinese bloat doesnt seem too bad to me. The bigger news in my mind is their commitment to 3 years of OS and 4 years of security updates. When they announced the merge with oppo everyone thought "oh so they are just going to stop caring and not support their phones as well" but it seems they are keeping their word on it enabling a better update schedule with more resources.
Wait ! What ??? You got Oxygen os 11.2.8.8 ?

Not yet.
I think next update is coloros
I used Oxygen os for few weeks but returned to coloros, i can feel battery is better
I can't wait maybe we get better AnTuTu scores then like colorOS who scores 800k and oxygenOS 750k
It's official! The next version of Oxygen OS will be replaced with color os! All oneplus phones will now run color OS from August 2021! RIP Oxygen OS!
I keep hearing that color os is more battery friendly. I am curious how it is going to work out.
Color OS = China
Oxygen = world wide
You can NOT replace google store for the rest of the world ! Not that easy ! They Loose a Big peace of the market !

I don't know where he found that info but it's not true easy. They will continue oxygen and with the Android 12 new look will be introduced and for sure Oxygen Os will be different than Color Os to recognize both brands.
Some good perspective on this topic:
The OxygenOS-ColorOS merger was inevitable, and I'm looking forward to it
OxygenOS is merging with ColorOS, and that has me excited. There's a lot of potential for great things to happen, if it all goes well!
