ok so I cannot use my phone as my contacts will not sync it wont even show the option for syncing contacts in android 11?
I have a moto g5.
I installed the gapps from mind the gapp.
I cannot use whatsapp as I have no contacts, it keeps asking for me to back up then asks me to type in my gmail then says that phone is already associated with this account. So whatsapp is stuck on the back up page I cannot see the messages I have received.
There is some integral part of android missing. Can you please help?

Looks like setup is missing. It is important to clean flash lineageOS and flash GApps before first boot.
Or don't install GApps at all and use a local contacts export

Why don't you export the contacts to the SD card en re-import them after a flash?
I have kicked FB completely off my phone as the FB sync uses up battery.
What I now do is sync my gmail contacts (in windows) with my FB. After the first sync the most important information is then permanentely added to gcontacts.
Of cource you don't get the message history of such through this method, but purely for personal data this is a good option in my opinion.

Ive imported the vcf file trying to restore it im stuck at "searching for vCard on SD card" for ages with 100% cpu usage on the acore process.
Anyone ?

you need to match their facebook names to gmail contacts mail. it will sync even if youll wipe.

as eliazu said above, you can use the stock contact app to export all your contacts to SD
when you import them back, they will be linked with the facebook info
alternatively, if you are flashing the same major release, most of the times you can get away by using titanium and backing up CONTACTS STOGRAGE (it is green) and then restoring it data only.

I dont want to sync or even touch Gmail contacts.

I am using F1 Gingerbread V3. Very nice ROM, clean & fast. The developer is very talented (he is a minor!)

However, every time after I reboot the phone, all my contacts that have been synced with Facebook & Twitter will be lost. I have to go to Settings>Accounts & Sync>add accounts.
It is frustrating if you have to sync the Facebook contacts every single time after you reboot. I wanted to ask the developer himself at the ROM thread page, but since I'm a newbie, I couldn't post a reply there.
So any ideas guys?
This might be because you've moved the Facebook and Twitter apps to SD card, which makes them unable to startup when Android boots up.
Move them back to phone memory and it should work again.

I think that is because those apps are removed from the ROM, it is sense part of the ROM. Everytime you reboot accounts are erased. Happened to me with one ROM so I moved to Sense ROMs.

It occurs due to your previous contacts data. To solve it, open Settings->Apps->All apps->choose Contacts->clear data.
Warning! It might delete all your contacts. Make sure that you have your contacts backed up or synced using google sync. :good:

Hi, a few weeks ago I tried to get a new app so went to my Google Play account and it wouldn't let me open it, kept asking me to log in. Anyway I eventually left it as it was driving me nuts but since then none of my apps will update and none of my Google accounts will backup, the most important one being my photos. I can't use Google to seach either. I can log in to my account on all other devices just not my phone. I also tried to connect my phone to my laptop to backup my photos as I'm thinking I'm going to have to do a hard reset but all my older photos were showing but not the newer ones that I have taken and you can view on my phone.
Can anyone help as this is driving me crazy.

What are you using to view your files? A file explorer or HTC Sync Manager? I would use the former.
If that doesn't show all your stuff, then I would use TWRP to backup everything or to copy files onto an external SD card and then plug that into the computer to copy everything before running an RUU and resetting everything, which is what I would do.
I have a Redmagic 6 Pro and just did a System Update to the latest OS - NX669J_UNCommon_V4.21.
Messages is now not showing Contact Names. Most of my contacts are setup with international Codes +XX. Messages is showing local number 0XX.
Is there a fix for this?
P.S. This has changed as there was no issue prior to the update.
I am having the exact same problem. Very frustrating. If anybody can find a fix it will be very much appreciated. If not hopefully they issue a patch to correct this problem sooner rather than later.

There were similar reports for other users back when Android 9 was released (on other devices).
If you haven't already, try clearing the cache of the messages app; if that doesn't work, try clearing data and cache (shouldn't affect you actual messages, but back up just in case) and finally, try uninstalling the last update to the app (if you can) and reinstall afterwards.
Also, make sure messages has permissions granted to access contacts. Make sure the international code is present in contacts phone numbers.
I don't have a RM6 (got 5G) - my spouse does but hasn't updated yet.
UPDATE: FOUND FIX.
1- In factory Contacts app, open advanced settings and export v.card back-up of contacts.
2- Clear data and cache in factory Contacts app, phone app, and messaging app.
3- Reboot phone.
4- In contact app, import v.card back-up to phone and default Gmail.
5- All should be good.
(Not all steps may be necessary.. it's just what I did to get things working).
Hey mate. Thanks for this. I actually cleared contact data and resynced back to my Google account and I think that also fixed it (for some reason I couldn't find the vcard after I exported).
Another issue I have noticed. If you get a Message from an unknown Contact you can Choose "Add Contact" but there is nowhere to add a new Contact, only to search and add to existing.

Can confirm - clearing data on contact storage is all that's needed.
I am facing the same problem with calls. When i get call only numbers show but not names. , but after the call i can see it in history. Any recommendations?

I found the solution. I turned off the VOLTE and it is solved.
