Hello,
I have a problem with a family member's HTC 10. Today their phone somehow got stuck with a black unresponsive screen, as if the LCD and the touch matrix (sp?) were both dead. It wouldn't restart after pressing on/off + volume button (tried with both volume buttons alternately). When pressing home, the back button and the other one would light up as usual, but it didn't turn on the phone, and neither did the on/off button.
The on/off button seemed kinda stuck halfway, and it usually has a smaller press/unpress "distance" than the one on my own HTC 10, so I'm guessing it was due to a stuck button. Said family member loves taking screenshots and complains that the button works poorly.
Is this a stuck button problem? Is this fixable or should we throw away the phone and buy a new one? The phone started working normally on its own after a few hours, but obviously this is something that needs to be fixed.
Thanks for reading, any help will be much appreciated!
Edit: It was all hardware problems, ended up taking it to the shop and getting parts replaced, works fine now.

Ive had this issue for over a week now. Often when I need my phone and turn it on from the Power/On button at the top, the screen stays black, it doesnt turn on. I can see the bottom hardware buttons light up and the touchscreen seems to work, I can feel the haptic feedback when pressing the screen... Assume its a connection issue - anyone had the same problem?
I have the same issue, but just turn the lock on again (hardware buttons turn off) and unlock the phone, and then the screen comes on.
Help!
This has gone really bad now! Ive tried find help on the net, but nothing so far!
I have removed the SD card, Sim. Tried with and without. I have hard and soft reset the Desire severeal times. It works well for a while, but the problem kicks in sooner or later.
Pressing the power button the buttons light up, the screen vibrates but its black, not turning on. I tried to unlock it, but without any help.
Hate to take it to T-Mob and be without a phone for another 2 weeks...
Im trying to make a hard reset by pressing the volume down + power (also the alternate press home and back and then Power). Even this is not working... is it totally bricked now?
With the Monday Bankholiday, will be ages before I get my Desire back. Awww!!
If anyone has any idea how to help, appreciate it alot!

I had the same problem with mine but in my case I dropped it on the floor but the screen hadn't any visible problem and the buttons below worked fine and the notification LED told that it worked. I sent it back to HTC and they replaced the screen under warranty. Tell us if you found another solution.
Regards, vascer.

Hi,
I started to get a weird problem since last week. I've had this phone for about 3 months now and never had any problem like this.
It all started one morning when I wanted to stop phone alarm. The alarm was going off but the screen was black. I pressed the power button to wake up, but it was still black. After couple of times pressing the power button the screen came up. First it was not that often but the situation started to get worse. It came to that I can sometimes cannot turn it on for a long period of time. I need to keep pressing power button, volume buttons and eventually it will come up.
This is what I've found so far:
1) When the power button is pressed, although the screen doesn't start up, I can see the three buttons at the bottom lighting up. So it is not a problem of the power button.
2) When the power button is pressed, although the screen doesn't power up, the screen seems responsive. I can feel the vibrations when I tap (I have a startup password)
3) When the phone is connected to a power supply, screen always starts up without a problem.
4) Screen will start up more frequently when the batter power is high.
It seems as though there is a connection between batters power and the screen not starting up. But then again, once the screen comes up (after not starting up), then it works fine, until I turn the screen off.
Has anybody experienced anything like this before?
I did a factory reset thinking it might be some application I installed but it didnt help.
I had to send this phone once to repair the speaker and cost more than $80 just for courier. I don't want to spend another to get this fixed.
Thanks.
I have this problem or a problem very close to this. I have a HTC One X (international version). I'm running the latest version and updates and the problem has existed for at least the last two updates.
Android Version 4.1.1
HTC Sense version 4+
Software number 3.18.401.1
I have the screen lock pattern turned on.
Sometimes when I hit the power button, the phone does not turn on and so I press it again and only after a third press does the phone turn on. I then unlock the phone and use as normal. So, several times per day I have to press the power button three times before the phone turns on. But other times I press the power button once and it turns on straight away. I've just turned the pattern unlock off to see if this makes any difference. I'll start to record the exact details of when I experience this and see if we can work out a common cause.
Hopefully if enough people report this problem then they can send out an update to fix this problem.

I'm pretty sure this is a hardware issue. I bought mine from Expansys and sent it back to them for repair. It's been more than a month and they say they're still reparing it.
In my case it was impossible for me to start the screen up with power button no matter how much I pressed it. The only thing that worked for me was to press the back of the phone just below the camera. So it seems like a hardware issue. But on the other hand, at times when I can't get the screen turned on no matter what I do, I'd turn the phone off and start again and the thing would start up like nothing happened. So while I'm pretty sure it is a HW issue, I'm not sure how a power restart makes it work.
For me I don't think that this is a hardware problem as it only started happening once I did the big upgrade from 4.0 to 4.1 and then it follows a specific pattern. That is three power button presses will always turn it on. Less frequently I also get a problem where the power button turns on the three lights on the soft buttons but the screen remains black. I then hit the power button to turn it off, and again to turn it on and the phone is back to normal again.
Is yours an international version? I bought mine an international version and had it shipped to Australia.
solved?
Hi - did anyone ever solve this? This is happening to me with my HTC desire X after having had the screen repaired, so I think it is hardware related, but the shop doesn't know how to fix it! My screen also does not turn back on when I want to end a phone call and pull the phone away from my face anymore. These problems seem related as they started at the same time. I would be grateful for help!
Hello,
My HTC One M8 power button suddenly went unresponsive yesterday - Nothing happens when i click it to turn on/off the screen or even get the power menu up. Sometimes it seems to be stuck (Pressing the home button triggers the screenshot function (Power + home ))
The button itself does not seem stuck or anything and i get normal response when clicking it hardware wise.
I already tried restarting which didnt solve the problem.
I'm running stock rom, unrooted version 2.22.401.5
Any idea what might wrong?

My PC currently suffers from the same button stuck issue. All I do is power it off and keep pressing the power button something like 20 times gently and continuously. Give it a shot. Make sure the button is clean in the cut outs and do the same trick to your button. Make sure you [DONT] power off the device, as there's a chance of never booting up; just some friendly advice. :good:
Sorry to bump this, but might be helpful if anyone else gets the same problem.
I sent my HTC One M8 to repair where they replaced the power button - Everything seems fine now.
HI, please help, after one month using Miui 7 on my amazon fire phone, suddenly volume up, volume down, camera and home buttons stopped working at the same time (power button jammed a years ago), how to solve this issue?
Thanks in advance
Same issue with my fire phone
I remember having the same issue with my phone, all button stopped working: home, power, volume up/down, camera
The touch screen worked fine though.
If i needed to use the phone i had to hold down the power button to reset the phone :|
I ended up installing an app that woke the phone every time i held it in a horizontal position, which made the situation bearable.
After about 1-2 months just as i was about to buy a new phone, all buttons randomly started working again!
Factory reset did nothing
Sometimes if i pushed hard on the home/power button i could get the screen to turn - which led me to believe that there was some dirt stuck somewhere in one of the buttons. (why that would stop all buttons from functioning is beyond me)
Solved
Dear friend, thank you very much for your respond.
I disconnected battery from my fire phone then connected it again. So result is amazing. All the buttons work again.
Background -
I bought this OnePlus 5T with a smashed screen to fix.
Paid 70 bucks for it plus the screen is just shy of 150 in total.
I was able to replace the screen and frame which was a little more complicated than I anticipated, but it ended well and the phone seems fine, although the screen quality isn't as good as stock.
***Problem - it seems that for unknown reasons, after turning off the screen pressing using the power button, screen becomes black and won't turn on, not until i hold the power button for ten seconds and restart the phone the hard way. Then the phone turns on and starts working again, but if I turn the phone off with the power button then it won't turn on again. I can tell the phone is working behind the black screen, vibration working, notification light working. But Everytime I turn the phone off with the power button I have to hard reboot the phone to get it back on again. Once this starts happening I have to factory reset to get the power button functioning normally again. It will work normally for a day or two and then out of no where the issue comes back again after pressing the power button - screen won't turn on.
Could it be software? I know it might be natural to suspect the screen is faulty, but the screen works normally until I use the power button to turn it off, and then works normally again for a couple of days after a factory reset ...
Thoughts ?
