Hi!
I am trying to read the Battery Discharge Cycles (or whatever parameter would give me a similar information) on a Samsung S20+. Tried different apps but none works. The closest so far - Phone Info Samsung - actually can read this on my old Samsuns S8, but there is no such info on the S20+.
Any idea how I can get this info w/o rooting the phone?
Background info: I purchased a "new" Samsung S20+ via ebay with the Black Friday/Cyber Monday ebay rebate.
The phone was listed as new, just with a "damaged" packaging.
This is correct, the package is damaged. But the package was not longer sealed, there were no plastic protection on the phone. The back code bar label seems also applied later (it is unevenly cut and there is only the IMEI, no other info - model number, ...). All accessories are from some older model Samsung phones (USB A to USB C cable, an older USB A charger, 3.5 mm jack headphones, ...
The phone is also build for a different country than Germany, but this is less relevant for me.
What is more important is that the phone has been manufactured in February. It has no scratches and if I can be sure that it has been charged around 30 times, than that is fine. But if someone had it for ~ 9 months, used it w/o care than I would rather buy a really new phone and forget the 8% black Friday rebate.
Sorry. I don't have the answer but I would like to know what kind of software is able to give such infos.
About your ebay S20+ : was the price that a great deal to "risk" buying such a "new" phone ?
@gilzve : best so far is Phone Info Samsung - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.vndnguyen.phoneinfo
or using adb tools, coneecting to the phone and going to sys/class/power_supply/battery and reading the values of fg_cycle (number of charge cycles) fg_fullcapnom (capacity nominal).
The last part only works on my Samsung S8, on the S20 + I can not change to the battery folder - access denied.
price: as stated, it was not much, it is just 8% off, around 590 EUR. And on e-bay it said: "new, just the packaging is damaged". Fake news or lies, however you want to call that.
side note: although I understand why the battery folder is protected I am quite unhappy that there is no easy way to read the charge cycles of an Android phone today. On Apple devices this is a default feature for ages and to be honest it is very handy: if you want to see what the state of your device is or when purchasing a second hand device (have no idea if the charge cycle count can be manipulate or not..).
I want to change my battery. Is there a way to reset the counter so that the battery is treated like a new one and not a used one with reduced capacity / charge?

I have only used my Universal for 4 months. It is in an excellent condition, I have used a screen protector since day 1 so the screen is immaculate. I have 2 screen protectors to spare.
All original box and packaging.
Unlocked to all networks although originally it was restricted to Orange. I have only used the original battery twice, as I ordered a spare battery to keep the original in perfect condition.
I have 3 batteries's, 2 normal life, and 1 long life (never used) (the original battery that came with the phone was only used twice).
I have 3 styluses.
Everything included as original, manual, cables, data cable, charger etc. I will also throw in my DVD of software, firmwares, hacks etc. that I have collected. (Alot of good torrented software if you know what i mean).
I live in the UK, London but will post to anywhere in the world providing the buyer pays for the postage.

Okay so I've been thinking long and hard on whether to get the Nexus or not. I've heard alot of good and bad things about this phone. But I'm thinking about getting it to use with a GoPhone plan since it will be cheaper than a contract. Now the questions
1. What issues am I going to have that is common between most and what are the fixes if so>
2. Since the IMEI numbers aren't in AT&T's database will it let me us the unlimited internet plan without buying the smartphone one?
3. A few people give me a quick run down of what your experiances with the phone were and if you'd buy it again if you came across it knowing what you know now?
Thanks for the answers
1. here are some few things:
-purple tint on screen (can be fixed by adjusting multiplier)
-screen bending
-signal drop (should be fixed after JB)
-bad battery life (get extended)
-bad camera
2. I dunno, since I live in Canada
3. Phone hardware is nothing to be amazed about, but the ease of hack, a lot of development, and Google OTA is what makes this device best for me If I were to buy a mid-to-high range phone right now, definitely either Gnex or the next Nexus
i've had no issues so far, owned for about 6 months. IMEI numbers are no problem even if not sold by carrier. if my phone broke, i would definitely buy the same one again for sure. unless of course the next nexus phone came out.
I love my Galaxy Nexus
#1: The only problem I've had on my Sprint Galaxy Nexus is that it is very picky about which chargers are used. I have more than ten models of 1A USB chargers (more than 20 1A chargers in total) and a box full of USB cables and the phone will only charge with three models of them. If I shut the phone completely off, it'll charge with all of them. If you're the type to have a few cheapy USB chargers, you might find some disappointment there. I recommend that you stick with the provided Samsung charger or get a _good_ charger, like Adafruit's 5.25V 1A USB charger (http://adafruit.com/products/501) which is my personal favorite for all 1A needs. Oh, and Sprint shipped their Gnex users a free extended battery and that has been wonderful. I'd recommend getting the extended battery as the phone does use a good amount of battery power driving the big screen. If you don't use the screen all that much, your battery will be fine; if you use the screen a lot (4+ hours per day) you'll want the extended battery. Everything else with the phone has been sunshine and butterflies.
#2: I have no idea about this as I'm not an AT&T customer.
#3: I think I really already answered this with #1. Be sure that you root and ROM this phone. If you don't intend to root _and_ you don't care about having a stock experience, I'd recommend the Galaxy SIII instead. But if you either want the stock Android experience or want to very easily and comfortably root and ROM this phone, go with the Gnex.
Sidenote: If you can wait until the next Nexus phone is released, which I would expect to be within just a few months. If you can survive with what you have now, just hold out a few months and buy the next Nexus. Or see if you can find one a bit cheaper via eBay or the like. That's how I went with the Nexus S for cheap and it allowed me to hop over to the Galaxy Nexus when it came out without contracts or big money spent.
the battery that came with the phone (which I bought exactly a year ago) started dying on me, (percentage jumping, weird freezing and hanging, crashing and other stuff.) Where do I get an ORIGINAL OEM battery and not some cheap crappy counterfeit that will actually produce about 70% of the original capacity which is around 2180~mAh instead of a full 3100. (Samsung.com doesnt seem to have it - I checked ..(IL)
Ideas? (Im desparate and its pretty urgent due to the fact I have everything on my phone, I use it 24 hours a day , all of my projects are on it, and I need to fix this problem ASAP)
just email samsung and they will provide address or sell you one. phone will work on charger, so no worries. you can buy extended battery i.e. zerolemon
I'm not sure if we're allowed to mention sites but, I've gotten some before on eBay for this exact model, just make sure you check the user's feedback.
Hi all,
Just purchased a brand new Nexus 7 2013 and I am having this weird issue. It will not start / boot up unless it is connected to the charger.
Already updated the software to the latest MM version, wiped the cache, did a 'Hard Reset" via recovery and it is still the same.
Anyone have any idea on what seems to be the problem here? Software bug or hardware issue?
Is there any way to fix this or should I just request for RMA?

Hi
it may be brand new but it was manufactured at least 1.5 years ago and its battery has discharged below the critical 3.0V during this time and subsequently deteriorated. The battery has increased internal resistance and can not handle the very high initial current required during boot up and needs the assistance of a charger. After a boot it will work without a charger but with decreased SOT.
Incidentally, while I have and daily use two of these devices, I would not buy it in 2016. With Antutu benchmark of around 19000, the Nexus is just too slow nowadays. Also check your eMMC chip, hopefully it is not a Kingston.

Thanks for all that information k23m! I'm learning something new everyday!
So that explains why the unit is "dead out of the box" and I had to plug in the charger for about half an hour just to bring it back to life...
If the sticker on the box is right, it shows that the manufacture date is around November of 2013, so the unit has been sitting inside a warehouse for the last 2+ years.
My initial plan was to just get any "El Cheapo tablet" to use as a bedside ebook reader, spotify remote controller and light gaming and I accidentally stumbled upon the Nexus with a good price.
The one I got is the 16GB WiFi model, brand new / sealed + official travel case and free shipping for around $97. Seems like a good deal compared to the price listed on amazon for the same model.
Also spent the last hour reading the link you provided about the issues with the eMMC.
Went ahead and downloaded the "SD Insight" app and it shows that MMC card is a Toshiba/Model 016G92 with Manufacture Date of AUG 2013 . So is this a good one or not?
With all that said, still deciding if I'm going to open an RMA request to have it exchanged but I'm pretty sure I'll just get a replacement unit from the same batch with all the same issues so a full refund is the only way to go.
Refund or just keep the unit? Guess I'll have to flip a coin...

$97 is a fantastic price and I might reconsider my statement about "not buying it in 2016"
The battery's condition is almost irrelevant if the device is constantly connected to a power source, eg in a car, and perhaps you can live with it. Toshiba eMMC is fine, no worries.
I was going to suggest return & refund but for $97 I'd keep it. RMA would indeed get you another one from the old production batch, unless you insist on fresh battery replacement.
:highfive:
Wow that sucks. Without knowing where you bought it from, I'd say its worth at least contacting the vendor to see what your options are. They might be willing to give you a partial refund of your money to cover the cost of a replacement battery.

Hi
I've got my hands on a nice HTC one m8 (16 GB) version. Unfortunately the phone has some kind of an issue. That's why the old owner bought a new phone and gave it to me.
The phone works flawlessly when connected to a charger. You can play games, run benchmarks etc.
As soon as the phone is disconnected from the charger it turns itself off under heavier load. Battery status is around 78% when this happens.
This happened under the latest stock ROM that was available.
Since then I unlocked the bootloader, installed TWRP and could reproduce the same issue with different Custom Roms (current official LineageOS builds, SlimRom, MoKee). Always the same issue.
On one occasion the device reset itself completely when it turned itself off. This would be an absolute no-go if I would like to use the device as a daily driver.
I checked the internet including all possible related threads here on XDA but could not find a solution.
The following recommendations did NOT work:
run self-test ( *#*#3424#*#*) in safe mode -> not possible anymore due to custom ROM
pressing Vol +/- and Power Button for 3 minutes
completely wipe everything (I already did this every time I installed a custom rom)
let the battery drain to 0% and then charge it to 100% and keep on charging for some hours with several restarts of the device
So my questions:
What's the root cause of this issue? Is this a general weakness of this device / model?
Why does the device not recognize the battery status correctly? With any other phone I had (Galaxy S2, Galaxy S3, OnePlus One) I never had the issue of the device turning itself unpredictably off.
Is it worth having the battery replaced? This would cost me about 100$ in local currency. I fear the problem only shifts from "78%" battery to a lower percentage and the device still unpredictably turning itself off. Also the device resetting itself is a bit of sword of Damocles.
I decided to buy a replacement battery from AliExpress:
Since I'm not yet allowed to post links: Search for "HTC One m8 battery".
The product I ordered was from the seller "QCKBST Global Store". The battery is reddisch / orange and includes a tool set in the preview-picture.
As stated in several fixing manuals / manuals for replacing the battery: It is a pain to do this with a HTC one m8!!!
With the proper tools it is feasable though. I also had the bad luck that all my internal wiring was covered in copper tape which made the replacement process not easier.
The replacement battery came with about 56% charge. I then charged it up to 100%. I can currently use the device playing games under heavy load (device gets very hot) down to 2-3% without any issues / sudden power off. Yay!
Pros:
Cheap
Works
Cons:
No battery temperature sensor. Most likely being a non-stock replacement battery
The tools delivered with the battery did not fit. It came with a Torx T4 instead of a T5. No help from the seller. Had to buy a tool set from another seller
I will very likely start using the device as a daily driver for the next few weeks and will post an update about the battery performance.

I did this a few weeks ago. Replacing the battery was a piece of cake Tbh. Not difficult just time consuming.
No damage except some marks to the speaker grills, which I was prepared to sacrifice and replace anyway.
Battery works real well now. Took a few discharge cycles to get it working 100%
Now lasts all day and charges under 2 hours from 0 to 100 using a cheap quick charge 3.0 charger from Ebay and a premium cable(this makes a big difference).
Battery Temperature works fine.
Phone behaves like new again now its running Nougat.
