LineageOS Galaxy Tab A 8.0? - LineageOS Questions & Answers

So yeah, I have an SM-T295 (Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8.0 (2019)) tablet with Android... Let me check... Uhhh... 10, Android 10 installed, and I want to install LineageOS in there but I couldn't find one. I found an unofficial build for the SM-A107 (Galaxy A10s) and I thought "Hey, my Tab A 8.0 and the A10s are pretty similar, maybe it will work", but what if it doesn't? F for my tablet. Obviously, I don't want that happening so I came here to ask. Will the A10s build work? Are there any unofficial builds or (also official) betas for the T295 that anyone knows about? If so, can you link me to the file download page? I'll answer questions on replies if anyone asks them. Thanks in advance!

I doubt you will be able to port the A10s ROM to your tablet. The easier solution will be to install a generic system image.
If your main intention is to remove Google and other bloatware, try an adb dbloater. That method has the lowest destruction capability.

Hey! Thank you for your reply. I have never heard of a generic system image... What is it? What does it do? How do I get it?

M2 10 Open Sourcecode (M2 A01L)

Hi guys,
Since today Huawei delivers the open sourcecode for the drivers, I guess.
Anyone in here capable to create a nice clean AOSP ROM or anything else good for our tablet?
Search link for LTE version:
http://m.huawei.com/enmobile/consum...roid=M2-A01L&proKey=Tablets_T/Tablets/M2-A01L
Direct download for LTE version:

Search link for WiFi version:

Direct download for WiFi version:
http://download-c.huawei.com/downlo...oadId=89346&version=347353&siteCode=worldwide
I do not have the experience with ROM building, forking, ... etc. here.
One good room would be good.
Edit. Nevermind
Anyone with the LTE version of this can you upload to a cloud link so that I can download? I would rather not waste my time having to send an email to [email protected] just to get it. Thanks

Hi! Thank you, i'll do an AOSP for our poor tablet, the only problem in my case, I'm unable to unlock the bootloader because i haven't in dev options "OEM unlock". If I'll pass this issue, I'll immediately start to develop the ROM.

Yeah it's a pain to unlock the bootloader. But since I need to install Google Workspace device policy I have no other option
@Crypto18 - There is a possibilty to unlock the bootloader by using dc-unlocker - amount about 4 Euro. I had success in doing so a year ago. It would be very nice to get an AOSP-ROM für the tablet.
I think, I unlocked it with dc-unlocker, too, four years ago or so.
I would be happy to have any clean/empty/fresh AOSP ROM for this tablet, as up to today it is still fast and really usable.
If you need any help, I would also be eager to learn how to do it (building a ROM). @Crypto18

I did the DC-unlocker thing today as described in the sticky, so it still works. Somebody in this thread mentioned that it worked for him without the OEM unlock option (it disappeared in EMUI 4), but to be on the safe side I had done a downgrade to EMUI 3 before (the oldest one I found didn't have a working dialer, I didn't try the landscape calculator trick to activate the manufacturere mode, but updated to a later EMUI 3 version that had a a working dialer: "Huawei MediaPad M2-801L Android 5.1.1 EMUI 3.1 B007.zip").
I am now looking for a working TWRP (see my post in the sticky thread a few minutes ago).
If you manage to unlock your bootloader, I would be willing to go the "build your own version from scratch" way with you. I have experience as embedded Linux developer one decade ago, but never did it for Android. Would be more fun to have a second person interested in this "classic" tablet.
@coocooc , @Crypto18 ,
Have you made any progress with developing a custom rom?
@coocooc - Please search for "TWRP-3.1.0-recovery-MediaPadM2-10.0-LISZT-A01L-A01W.img" in TWRP. That's the TWRP you're looking for.

Crypto18 so far did not come back, and I didn't start the journey yet.
I am on the way to prepare a Linux laptop for building Android and SBC stuff, but family life does not allow to spend many hours on my pet projects.
I wrote a mail to Huawei to get the latest sources (EMUI 4), but the first level support shown on their GPL site couldn't fulfill the wish. They gave me a developer address to apply to; let's see how this ends.

Thanks for the hint! I will try this TWRP version tonight. Which EMUI version are you using with this TWRP (EMUI 3 or 4)? Is there something to check in the flash layout first, to succeed with this TWRP?
@coocooc - I'm using a Huawei Mediapad M2 10.W with Emui 3.1., Android 5.1.1.
If you're on Mediapad 801L, the above mentioned TWRP will not work for you!

Funny, the name of the TWRP file suggests that it is valid for both the L and the W versions of the M2-A01.
What is exactly the problem with this file?
I unlocked both the phone und FRP on my device before installing this file.
I am on EMUI 3.1. and Android 5.1.1.

noob - Can I put Lineage on Huawei M3?

I am not asking for Huawei M3 specific rom!
I am not asking for anything, I am just total noob who read about Lineage and wants to install it but knows nothing about it. I made thread asking same question on Reddit and it was deleted by moderator without single reply, they have rule there where its prohibited to ask this most essential basic and fundamental question.
I checked the "compatible device" list and M3 isnt there, neither are M5 or M6. I dont even understand why is there compatibility list and what would happen should I attempt to install it on M3. I dont even know if I can even attempt it.
I just want someone to tell me if I should forget about it or if this is potentialy possible but with some extra difficulties and risks becose its not supported device.
It's a different thing to put lineageOS on a phone or tablet than putting Linux on a PC. A Linux distro usually conatains all necessary drivers to run on most PCs. A LineageOS ROM contains much more device specific proprietary code. So there exists a different ROM for each device or group of related devices. For M3 have a look there:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/mediapad-m3/development/rom-t3945684
It's not official. That's why you didn't find it in compatible device list.
Thank you for reply kurtn. So you are saying that I can run normal Lineage that isnt special rom made for some specific device just fine but some things will not work becose of drivers?
I only use my tablet for listening music and browsing web, as long as bluetooth and wifi works I dont care about the various sensors and cameras. Is there higher risk of bricking the device if not using device specific rom?

WiFi and Bluetooth are highly device specific. I've linked a ROM for you.
I have M3, that M3 Lite you linked is different device. Or did you mean it should work on M3 just fine?
By the way, if there is another device with similiar chipset, does that mean I can use rom for that device? M3 has Kirin 950 so my thinking is that maybe I can use rom that was made for some Kirin phone, or is that bad idea?
Here is link from xda- lineage news article that claims 15.1 version ROM is avaliable for Huawei Mate 8. That phone uses exact same chipset. https://www.xda-developers.com/openkirin-lineageos-honor-8-honor-note-8-huawei-p9-huawei-p9-plus-huawei-mate-8/amp/

Is there more ROMs?

I recently purchased an tab S4 just an update from my previous Samsung tablet. I was wondering is there more ROMs for this tablet or ROMs currently in development? I noticed theres like 2 ROMs for this tablet. I have a note 8 and I'm currently running deluxerom on and it, and I really enjoy the tweaks and customization I'm able to do. I was looking for a same kind of feature for my tablet. Would greatly appreciate the answers I'm looking for. Thanks!

Pretty much zero support. You can get a few 9.0 GSI ROMs to boot, but they all have issues. Mine has been sitting around since it was purchased while still using my old 2014 model.

I had thought the same thing, but it seems the S3 is the last tablet to get real support.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/project-treble/trebleenabled-device-development
Some of the ones for 9 will work, but most features won't work too well, if at all.
You might be able to get another rom to work, I know I had no luck. Even trying ones with similar hardware, they all failed to even flash since the booting numbers are different.
Kind of have to be satisfied with Samsung, half baked custom roms or sell the thing.

Hey Veekay I tried it and you're right unfortunately I came across the same issue as you brother
Now I'm stuck and I need help sorting my device out, was wondering if you knew this issue or could help?
When I got the stock firmware back and then when I flash TWRP with odin after going into TWRP I get 0mb as internal
so when I format and then go back into my load up the screen after SAMSUNG says "verification failed" and then reset
on the bottom. I tried other options as well. Without even wiping on TWRP the devices boots up into the setup wizard for the firmware fine
but after I wipe TWRP so I can get access to my internal drive my samsung boots into that verification reset screen. Got any clue as to how I can
resolve this issue? Thanks a bunch!

Have you tried just reloading the latest stock firmware from scratch?
Yup, its unfortunate that there isn't much community support for this device. The Tab S4 is Project Treble supported and a few GSI ROMS do work. But as others have said they are unstable and not for use as a daily driver. We have a few discussion threads here talking about them.

Sorry, but I don't understand what do you mean " without stock rom and only twrp"...
you can install a Gsi rom, with two ways
Via TWRP, or Via Fastboot : https://www.xda-developers.com/flash-generic-system-image-project-treble-device/ (Tab S4 is a-only arm64)
for any other question, it is better to ask in the thread : https://forum.xda-developers.com/pr...vice-development/aosp-9-0-phh-treble-t3831915
(read carefully in OP & you can post, every single question there for your device, and you will get certainly help from the developer or from any other user..)

You are going to have to just wipe it and start over from square one, unless you made a TWRP backup before starting all of this.
Download and flash the latest stock rom from recovery and then you can load twrp again.
I was looking at the possibility of using GSI's on some devices, and while they can offer new life to older devices, they're not entirely stable all the time unless you're willing to make your own changes. I know Lineage has made some excellent progress, but it's not fullproof yet and I wouldn't try it unless you're willing to not use your device as a daily use device.
I had an extra T-Mobile Revvlry which is basically a rebranded Moto g7 Play that I installed the Lineage GSI image and it works fairly well. However, this is more the exception to the rule and Moto devices, I feel, are far simpler in design vs certain Samsung devices. It also had a ton of trial and error involved for me to get it up and running properly.
Is it possible as the s4 becomes older, more people buy it and Samsung stops releasing official updates that someone will come along and create a ROM for it? Or is it more like Samsung locked the bootloaders and its close to impossible to write a ROM for it? Is it still possible to root the s4?

samsung, maybe at the end of july to give the upgrade to android 10....it is very likely to happen I think
yes,all Gsi Roms still have various problems unfortunately...
my opinion is: stay to stock rom for now....you can "uninstall" many applications if you want & without root, via "samsung package disabler"(paid) from playstore, or with this way:

also, you can Install "NiceLock Downloader Companion App" ,to add some features on your device : https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-9/themes/nicelock-module-download-links-module-t3923844
with this way I operate my device until now..

I asked for some developers but they said that the chipset of this tablet is speedtrum not Qualcomn and building device tree for these chispset is hard and so on

The latest build is lineage 14 but this Rom has some bugs the best point for this Rom is that you can use your SD Card stoarge as your internal stoarge so you can install a lot of apps with large sizes it depends for your SDCard stoarge But the big problem is about Googleplay services some apps couldn't run without Google Play like Duolingo
As a result If you want install apps that need google play you should install official Rom with lack of stoarge if you want install alot of apps you should use lineage14 but no google play support and you have some bugs
I created new device tree for this tablet but has errors during the build I put my device tree link so please someone help to edit or upgrade it that is all I know maybe I continue it later

Use _mone's tree or something.
I'm trying to port the A 10.1 (2016)'s ROM to the T280, building a ROM from scratch is hard for me.

Mine only restarts if it's doing a hard task. In _mone's first build, the red lines stopped it restarting.

I'm not the best at porting. It's just easier to do.
If you want, you could make a version with an option like that.

In _mone'sold LOS 14 builds, sometimes red lines flashed around the edges around the screen.

I'm going back to building. I'm just going to build LOS 16 for the T280. I don't want to put too much strain on this tablet.

Some months later ..and ?

Question It is really difficult for me to build twrp. Can anybody explain easier (step by step)than such a difficult existing thread.

My device which I want to port is sm-a325n (galaxy a32).
I know there is existing thread that include the twrp image for a32 but It doesn't work for me.
So I want to know how to build it myself but I need help.
Thank you.
