Just dated to the November update. Whats you guys feedback on it? i just got mine installed....touch and other fixes...lets see.
Since the update, my camera button on the lock screen doesn't work correctly. It does open the camera, but it's under the lock screen so I still have to unlock the phone to take a picture.
Is it just me, or does anyone else have this issue now?
Edit: Really weird. It wasn't working correctly at all, even after a restart. Tried to show my wife what I was talking about because she wasn't having the same issue and it started working. Haven't had a problem with it since.
I have not gotten the update yet. I'm on AT&T. Don't know if that is the reason.

Youtube TV still has orientation issue with spanning video. Video will not stay in horizontal orientation and would flip to vertical. I have to slightly rotate screen to keep view from flipping orientation. Very annoying.
Camera improvements are pretty noticeable in my opinion
Guys, anyone knows how to manually update our phone with unlocked bootloader? Thank you in advance.
I think the updates are a nice step in the right direction but I have found more issues with the camera when trying to use it. Swapping to the rear camera is not as smooth as it was before (I'm using smooth generously). The swipe away gestures are still not great, after maybe 6-9 months of updates it won't feel so beta to me? Using my Pixel 4XL or iPhone seems so much better and polished, hope M/S will put the work in needed to the software.

so phone is okay. but man...when its on the table...with TWO gyros...it should know what orientation i have it at....i just dont get it. So far phones running a trillion times better to be honest. Android 11 i think will truly unlock the phones potential off the rip.... 2021 lets go....
Any December update? I thought I saw somewhere that Microsoft promised monthly updates.

I have one reserved to pick up in my local store now but not sure if its worth it when I got a Galaxy S2 and a iPhone 4S.
The screen is what interests me mostly but no idea how better that is compared to the two phones I have and heard about hardly any apps work on ICS yet e.g Facebook and so on.
Anyone who owns one would you say its worth it or stick to the two phones I have?

I cant talk for anyone else but myself in this regard. I have had my GN for about 24 hours now and have to say its the most amazing phone I have ever owned. Colours are rich and vibrant. Camera is fast as hell and yet still manages to focus. 5MP is more than enough for a camera, if I want to take professional shots then I will take my 16MP DSLR out but the majority of shots taken with phones are for social networking sites which resizes and compresses the image anyway so it doesnt matter. Speed is smooth as running a hot knife through butter and pretty much every program that I had running on Gingerbread works on this phone. The Tegra2 optimised games obviously wont work (apart from Guerilla Bob which works great) but I think I have installed about 60 apps and games since yesterday and only 3 or 4 havent worked. Facebook and Skype both work on my phone, even video calling works .
The main problems so far are satnavs (closes or stays black) and video players. I will try a few more satnavs and report back. Video players either stop running or wont install but that will soon be sorted so I have no worrys there.
I havent noticed any of the software problems that people are reporting but with a Nexus you HAVE TO REMEMBER that it is the first phone to have the latest software and its inevitable that there will be a few bugs to start with. Thats what updates are for and they will be ironed out soon enough. Developers will quickly update there apps for compatability with ICS and new apps will be made to enhance this beautiful screen.
If you have any more questions please ask away but I would definitely recommend getting it
Mark.

Well as I have only had the phone a day I cant comment about battery life at all as its been on charge pretty much the whole time. I like to give new phones a good days charge to make sure its maximum benefit from the first charge. Will know more about that after about a week when it starts to settle down into normal life.
The screen IS simply amazing. Its beautifully sharp especially when playing back 720p movies and its got the same coating on as the iphone to resist finger prints so it doesnt get that dirty look as quickly as other phones.

Hi Mark, how is the GPS fix time and accuracy compared to, e.g., your HD2? I've heard Samsung quite suck at the GPS department. Does this barometer sensor really helps improving the GPS fix speed like Google developers explained? Thanks.
Thanks mark that is good to know. I would like to switch my gs2 for nexus. Is nexus as smooth in web browsing and overall as gs2?
Could you mesure gps precision with gps test app?
Thanks.

The screens awesome, much better than the retina display IMO as its bigger with equivalent resolution and much better blacks because of the SAMOLED. Having to post on my sister-in-laws iPad as my nephews playing shadowrun on it and I can't get him off it.
Mark thank you and I took the plunge and picked one up.
Firstly amazing, the screen is mind blowing playing HD videos for a phone. Secondly ICS is miles ahead of Gingerbread. Can't speak highly enough of it experience wise so far.

Does this mean the app doesn't support the phones FM chip or is it completely absent?
Am getting a Zenfone 2 Deluxe. Have always used Samsung phones in the past, always rooted and also used to flashing ROMS, recoveries.
However Asus is new for me so I would just like to ask what are the first steps I need to take :
1) Should I first update through OTA? Or through PC? Where can I download the update?
2) What is the best way to root?
3) Is it okay to stick to stock recovery or is it better to flash TWRP or CWM?
4) What is bootloader unlocking? Is this necessary?
I came from Samsung too and let me tell you this phone has issues. I wouldn't root it until I made sure things are working right. It has a serious issue with the default SMS app that won't allow you to send MMS pictures through it. Voicemails get delayed and you dont get text sometimes. if you google "zenfone 2 mms not supported on sim 2" you'll see people have this issue. I have called Asus and their techs don't understand English too well and they have no answer. they gave me a case number and promised to get back to me and never have.
I have installed the latest firmware, did the factory reset and nothing changed. I'm running the stock rom so I can't tell you if another rom would fix this issue. the camera is terrible for a 13 mp not even close to the Samsung 8 mp. I really wish I had never bought this phone now, I've had other Asus products in the past with good luck, but their phone, no way.
The camera really isn't bad at all. It takes some great shots...what issues are you having that the camera sucks so bad? @Chocketbear

Not saying it's useless, but it gets grainy when you zoom in on a photo you take. my 8mp galaxy S3 is a way better camera. but to me if you're boasting a 13 mp camera, it had better take some really crisp shots. notice you live in Florida too...I'm in the Tampa area and let me tell you we are getting screwed out of out nice cool weather, this hot crap blows man!
Chuwi Hi Pad Helio X27
Specs:
CPU: MTK6797X Helio Deca Core
GPU: ARM Mali-T880
RAM: 3GB
Storage: 32GB (supports TF up to 128GB)
Screen: 10.1 inch OGS Screen 1920x1200
Camera: Front 5MP, Back 5MP
Battery: 7000 mAh
In the box in a nice foam packaging you can find the tablet (obviously), a charger 5V 2000mA, user's
manual in English and a pin for extracting the TF card port
The tablet has only the basic stuff so no 4G support, no NFC, no fingerprint scanner.
Design:
The tablet has a full metal body. It looks sturdy without any squeeks and cracks.
On the back there is an X shaped design that looks good and adds to the overal gaming orientation.
There are also the speakers (i can't really tell where exactly) but they are loud and clear for a tablet of
this price range.
In portrait position we find in the top the USB port, 3.5 mm jack and the TF card slot
On the right hand side from top to bottom there is the power button and the volume rocker.
Screen:
The tablet comes with a pre applied screen protector that i haven't removed yet (until i find a proper
tempered glass at least). Colors are nice although i think that the dpi of the screen makes icons and
some apps bigger than i would prefer. Viewing angles are great and visibility out in the open is adequate
for outdoor use.
I have experienced some random inputs when scrolling but hopefully there will be an update from Chuwi to solve this problem.
Software:
Out of the box it comes running Android 8.0.0 with 5 june security patch.
The feeling and actual experience is good. There is some occasional lag here and there but nothing deal breaking.
Gaming wise i tried Asphalt 9, Real Racing and Need for Speed with the same results.
Fully playable but seems to be running in low resolution (maybe because of the low DPI?)
Camera:
Nothing special here from both. Good enough for Skype calls maybe.
Battery life:
It seems to get 7-8 hours of normal use but i will test some more and come back with an update.
Other:
The device is not authorised so no Netflix on high quality
Conclusion:
A decent tablet for the price. Nice screen, loud speakers and adequate performance on daily use as well as in gaming. Battery life will get you easily a day.
There is the issue with the touch sometimes and some occasional lag here and there but nothing dramatic.
Gaming Asphalt 9

Keeping an eye on your thread, this tablet is ridiculously cheap at the mo. The only thing I have seen that's a worry is the input/touch issues which you also mention. Hopefully something that can be fixed in an update though.

In everyday use you just notice this sometimes.
But if you try to write something as I do right now from the tablet, there are some hit and miss clicks that are noticeable.
Hope this is a software issue too.
Great tablet overall for the price.
Good review freaktech. I've had my HiPad a few weeks, I completely agree with everything you said... great tablet for the price, but a few things that can hopefully be improved with s/w updates.
That being said, one thing I think would really help would be if we could get root on this thing. I'm assuming the governor is set to interactive but I think changing it to OnDemand would make the performance even better. And maybe we could also change the DPI setting?
Unfortunately I'm not sure how to start trying to root it... I don't know if this is helpful to others, but Chuwi has posted the Hi-Pad rom image, driver and flashtool:

Root and custom recovery is something I'm looking forward too.
I found a topic somewhere here on how to compile twrp for helio CPU.
I'll give it a try. But still we need root to install it am I right?
I'm reluctant to try one click root solutions.
Good to know that we can go back back to stock if something goes wrong though.
I guess flashtool instructions are the same for all mtk devices?
I've added a video playing asphalt 9 on the first post (seems to be the most popular game a the moment) sorry for my bad filming skills.
I'm not sure about the whole root/TWRP thing either, it's a chicken/egg situation for me too. I've always just followed other people's instructions on how to root and install TWRP, I've never sorted it out myself.
Since we've got the stock image available, my understanding is that trying one-click recoveries should be okay but hopefully someone with experience will chime in.
I received an OTA update today.
No changelog though.
I got it too. Too bad there's no changelog, but at least it shows they're fixing things.
Something potentially interesting I've noticed - if you run the Google "Find my device" app, it identifies the HiPad as a "Hi9 Air". I'm guessing this is because they re-used software from the Hi9 Air, but I'm wondering if it also means the HiPad could be rooted using one of the Hi9 Air root methods. Anyone with rooting experience willing to give it a shot?

It's been a long time since i used my English skills and maybe they are a bit rusty.
The touch issue i'm experiencing is more of a hit and miss rather than a phantom touch.
For example let's say you want to type the word "chuwi" and you actually type "chui" or "cuwi".
[edit] I added a photo to be more clear. You just have to trust i'm not that bad in typing
Now for the lag part the tablet is smooth 99% of the time but here and there there is a frame drop mostly in the ui in my experience.
I'm a bit hypersensitive with that kind of stuff but i did noticed it and thought to mention that too.
It's a budget tablet after all
I use the tablet daily with no problems.

I use mine daily without problems as well. Really good tablet and it'll only get better with root.
In case it helps anyone, I just came across this tutorial on downloading the latest Chuwi HiPad USB Drivers and MediaTek driver:
https://www.getdroidtips.com/download-latest-chuwi-hipad-usb-drivers/
I was just reading the Chuwi forums, and according to their forum correspondent "Emily", the OTA they released the other day was intended to address the touch sensitivity/accuracy problems (she wasn't very specific though). Personally, I do think the touch sensitivity has improved a bit. Anyone else have an opinion?
Can anyone test the new update?
I'm using it right now (and have been for a few days). I definitely think touch sensitivity has been improved. Anything else you're wondering about specifically?

hope so,
Mine is on the way, Now I am only concerned with Netflix, It was one of the reason I ordered this.
As freaktech mentioned, you can find various apks (on XDA and on the web) that allow HD Netflix on non-certified devices. I haven't done it on my Hipad yet, but I used these apks to install HD Netflix on an Android box in my living room. Piece of cake (just download and install) and works great.

It could be just my eyes but I think he was touching 6T a tad bit earlier. Also I absolutely despise the FP sensor in than A50 but apparently there has already been a firmware update in India(? or South Asia in general). In the video you linked, it appears to be still on the 1st Feb update. For now I'm using the face unlock option which is quite fast and waiting for the FP update in coming weeks.
From the fingerprint I am very disappointed. The next day my fingerprint didn't work. I Had to set it up again. Unreliable and slow. I Had a Blackberry key one Black edition. There was a fingerprint of 100%. Samsung A50 is not reliable...

The Fingerprint is not good as I expected.
Itseems that after the update fingerprint performance is little slow.
Oneplus 6t can not be compared to Galaxy A50. almost 50% of price difference is there. So, be gentle a bit about phone and comparison. A50 is definitely slow but hope that samsung will fix it soon.
Meanwhile, Either use face unlock (which is quite fast) or just the pattern.
Now at ASC7. Latest update for now. Though they wrote that fixed fingerprint in this update, but nothing positive happened. Fingerprint is such terrible, as before. Probably it is hardware shortage. Have to use face unlock instead of fingerprint

FP is total crap. The rest is pretty nice at this price tag. Back camera is far above my wishes - i do not expect it to be at DLSR level ( as some do ). Front camera - I do not care.
btw the face unlock is super fast(turn off swipe to unlock after face detected in settings). pity it's not an IR sensor so doesn't work at night but i've set the phone to be unlocked when connected to my pebble smartwatch(smart unlock) anyways so that's not an issue for me.

From my personal experience, a dirty fix would be to turn off the face unlock and rely only on FP to unlock your device. Been doing it for two days now and the FP unlock feels much faster. With the March update and both FP and face unlock, trying to unlock with my FP always took like 3-4 tries, now it always unlocks in first try with FP ever since I have deleted my recognized face.
I'm using only FP and just to confirm it's slow and garbage even with March update. 3-4 continuous times unlocking like a charm but after that, next 4-5 times dont unlocking. Pretty weird if i can say. Isn't it?

Face Unlock works with eyes closed and at a very wide angle even with Faster Recognition switched off, basically making the phone accessible to anyone while you are sleeping.
Smart Unlock using wearable ends up allowing the phone to be switched off without entering the pin or pattern. This implies that a stolen phone wouldn't be trackable while also making the phone easily accessible when placed on a table.
For some, the lower level of security wouldn't matter but the fingerprint sensor is the best option in terms of security and it is disappointing that Samsung fluffed it. I am using it with a tempered glass and am able to get the best performance by re-registering regularly using my regular grip. Even then, there is the occasional failure and the speed is simply not up to scratch compared to capacitive sensors.

hey guys : here is a simple trick to get best out of the fingerprint scanner.
1. Register 1 finger,
2. Add the same finger again
3. For the third time do the same.
Now the speed maybe as earlier but the accuracy will never fail. So bye bye to the No match error.
Hope this helps..!

Accuracy isn't that much of a problem if the fingerprint is added at the correct angles but the speed definitely is. Moreover, people are likely to use the phone single handedly with either hands in which case a single finger addition is a huge inconvenience. I use either of my thumbs based on the holding hand as well as my index finger when the phone is on a flat surface where using a thumb is ridiculous.

Yes it improves the accuracy and the fingerprints response is fast.
Well, been wanting to get a bigger screen AMOLED phone, to replace my View20.
I tend to keep my phones a long time, and I'm not so much a gamer. On a phone, that is
Red Magic 6 (non pro-version) to my eyes seems to be about the best "Bang For Buck" phone, with top of the line CPU & GPU. And a big AMOLED screen... I'd pretty much would put €600 to be the limit for price.
Support and bugs seem to be kinda the point, which still keeps me thinking. I was going to get Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 Pro. As it's €279 now here for a limited time... Then again, it has a smaller display and much weaker CPU/GPU... On that front, it's even slower than my View20...
Decisions, decisions...
What do the people here think about this dilemma?

Well, my View20 has: "The panel maxed out at 479 nits regardless of whether auto-brightness is enabled or not".
So it's quite much brighter than that, and it hasn't been a problem for me, even with View20.
Bugs are the things, that I'm more concerned with. Also, at the price, are there better phones. With big AMOLED displays?

To give you an idea of how buggy it is, I bricked mine doing a manual update with the software the OEM provided because the phone wouldn't pick up the update on its own.
Also, you can't change the home launcher without root and notifications are unreliable on the lock screen

I just received mine and that is false. You might not be able to use gestures, but you can change the launcher. You need to change it in the default apps. It doesn't work the normal way when opening a new launcher, but there is a way still without root.
I just use it for a month and I didn't face any issue with the latest update. It was pushed automatically via OTA. Previously, i also tried the software update version on their official website by downloading the correct version based on my region. Everything was successfully fine and it is working like the first day i was unboxing the phone.
