If on Android 10 - https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=82134687&postcount=2
If 8 or 9 - https://forum.xda-developers.com/xp...recovery-twrp-3-2-2-0-touch-recovery-t3821597
I don't think anyone has ever found a way to backup DRM on this phone, so keys will be gone, but I've read somewhere that Xperifix works... Also I think it's not as much of a loss as it used to be on other Sony phones...
Make sure to thank @MartinX3

Due to the MediaTek processor, that's closed source, developers can't really develop for this device without breaking the law. MediaTek have always ensured that their source code isn't released making it difficult for a developer to actually make a custom rom. It's just unfortunately not going to happen for this device.
The Sony XA2 has a Snapdragon 630 processor so it's likely it will receive some more development than XA1. If you want to root you Sony XA1 device you can use on of links below.
XA1 Plus: https://forum.xda-developers.com/xa1/development/xperia-xa1-plus-stock-kernel-advanced-t3729856
XA1 & Ultra: https://forum.xda-developers.com/xa1-ultra/development/g3221-built-sources-t3622886
Best of luck!
There is no breaking the law or anything. And Sony has uploaded kernel sources long back.
Here is the one for .162 FW
https://developer.sonymobile.com/do...rchives/open-source-archive-for-40-0-a-6-162/
The stock ROM is pretty awesome and there is little reason to unlock BL and make/install custom ROM.

Possible. yes.
But there is a chance of a brick.
Different firmwares may have different partition setups.
And if you brick the one with IMEI or Bootloader ,the phone is a brick.
The only way to confirm is a developer having a rooted UAE phone and a rooted Indian phone and mapping the partition tables.
or perhaps , peek into ftfs and then predict the partition setup. :victory:

i don't want to buy a new device,
The main issue i found is a lack of device tree from Sony, one would need to be built to even consider doing custom roms, LineageOS etc etc, i recently got this phone and i am rather disapointed with the lack of roms for it, ROM's could be ported to the phone no doubt, i know how to build roms and port, but doing a device tree is beyond me
Hi all, im tempted to buy this XZ2 Compact as a secondary phone (LG V30 as main)
but i just got a couple questions befor im buying it:
Is this device part of the official Treble-Project devices? (so no need to make vendor partition myself etc etc..)
can i unlock bootloader on pie (if it already has official pie)? (dont really care for DRM as im not a camera person.)
if the above bootloader question is false answer; can i unlock bootloader on oreo then upgrade to pie? (to update vendor partition for pie GSI's (if treble supported)
Thanks in advance.

this is a A/B device, so yes it has treble, don't know if official or not, but I think it is a regular treble-phone
PIE is official, but you can't officially unlock on PIE at the moment, so you have to unlock while running oreo, then update to pie

Hi! I'm curious: Have you or has anyone else tried a GSI on the XZ2 Compact? On this Github page (1) it says the camera isn't working at all. Can anyone confirm or deny? I'm interested in getting the phone, but wouldn't if the camera doesn't work with GSIs.
(1) github.com/phhusson/treble_experimentations/wiki/Sony-Xperia-XZ2-and-XZ2-Compact
Sorry, can't post links yet.
I have not tested a GSI, but as far as i can say, it depends on the aosp source from Sony devs.
And afaik the Sony devs pushing updates for the camera to their aosp code, which hopefully lead into a working cam in the next few releases.
But i think @MartinX3 is the more experienced guy related to this topic.

I never feel experienced enough :silly:
As far ass i know, only the sony aosp works with the Q GSI, because Q needs a new treble level.
It splits the sepolicy.
The sony aosp & its OEMv7 blobs are compatible with it.
I am not sure if the PIE stock rom has it.
But I think they will only implement it with stock Q in combination with a Q bootloader.

As to Treble, yes, the XZ2C supports Treble. https://thedroidguru.com/list-project-treble-supported-android-devices/
The bootloader is supposedly unlockable (and Sony's dev site provides for it), although I cannot comment on the consequences of doing so, such as the DRM issues with the camera.
so I'm about to unlock my bootloader now that I got my code and I have no problems doing that but I'm just looking for suggestions on whether to flash a ROM or not. Anyone running the Resurrection remix are any of the other ROMs? And I seen that you can flash TWRP to recovery or erecovery partition? Which one should I do?just trying to get advice from someone who's already went through all this

I use RR. It's stable, but no Google pay. Omni Rom still have a number of issues I believe.

I have AL00 8g/256g model on 9.0 200 running RR 7.0.1. beta. TWRP is installed on erecovery and Magisk installed on recovery. Gpay does work if you follow steps in post #5 of this thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/discussion-google-pay-magisk-discussion-t3906703 basically the newer versions of Google Play Services can detect root even if it's hidden with Magisk Hide, so you have to have an older version installed and prevent it from updating again. Then hiding that version with Magisk Hide makes Gpay work. Eventually Magisk will be updated to hide the newer versions.

Where did you get the unlock code from?
Don't bother. Even after unlocking, there's not much you can do with it. There are no official versions of popular roms for it because of the shady way the unlocking codes are obtained. And many developers can't make good progress because there's no official way of unlocking it. And they don't need to suffer to bring out a good rom when unlocking the bootloader is so difficult.
Even after unlocking there are so many broken issues because of the above.
Not sure you can even unlock with the code you got. Anyway how much did you pay for and to whom?
I also would like to know where you unlocked it? I just want root.
I got my code from the Russian site a few months ago .I flashed Resurrection remix and immediately went back to stock ROM. Not worth unlocking bootloader imo
Hey guys,
I've updated my realme X2(IN) few days ago to realme UI. After updating, my device has a lot of issues. Over heating and battery draining are main problems. I can't stand this and really want to downgrade to color OS or I would really like to try any custom roms out there. But I can't unlock the boot loader since the deep testing tool app is not supporting anymore.
How can I downgrade? or
How can I unlock boot loader and install TWRP?
If someone could help me regarding this, that would mean a world to me.
Thanks.
if you unlock bootloader you can flash recovery of coloros 6.1 and flash stock rom

Hello, am new to pixel device... My previous device was Xiaomi Mi 11 , my device carne with A13 !my question is there any way to downgrade to A12 I want to flash derfest A12 my fav ROM .. thx in advance
Hello, welcome to Pixel land.
First, in order to flash a factory image, you'd have to unlock your bootloader. If you don't know already, click the yellow How To Guide quick filter at the top of the list of threads in this section and you'll find 3-4 threads that tell how. I also have a link in my signature below - you can use the link for the Pixel 7 Pro - the instructions to unlock the bootloader are the same, and the OP of my Pixel 7 Pro thread is much better organized than my one for the Pixel 6 Pro, in my opinion.
After that, the only way you can downgrade (and have everything working, and not brick your phone is to use one of the two Android 12 Developer Support images for Pixel. There's an Android 12.0 build from February and an Android 12.1 build from July. They will never receive updates, however.
You can always manually flash a Pixel 6 Pro stable Factory Image to re-upgrade at a later date, or use the Official Google Android Flash Tool (OEM Unlocking needs to be toggled on - you may not have to manually unlock the bootloader - the "site" will do that on its own) to re-upgrade.
Any of the stable Android 12 builds at that factory image link should not be flashed because the Android 13 bootloader cannot be downgraded to an Android 12 bootloader, and if you flash everything from 12 Stable but the bootloader, it'll appear to work at first, but it truly won't work correctly - it will not be useable.
If you unlock the bootloader, you should also make sure the Android 13 bootloader is flashed to your inactive slot as well, to avoid the possibility of accidentally bricking your new phone.
Thanks for the fast reply sir much appreciated .. I got the idea ... My device stock unlocked and rooted .. now my question is if I flashed the July A12.1 developer ... Can I flash custom ROM based on A12.1 like derpfest etc ... Sorry I mixed up things here little harder than xiaomi

You're welcome. I don't fool around with custom ROMs except on my 6-year-old or more phones, so I can't answer that question. Part of the best things about having Pixels is the software features Google starts off exclusively on the Pixel stock ROMs.
