I haven't had this issue before until, maybe some of you may know, a new game Genshin Impact came out and only with this game do I meet this problem where I *think* it's the top speaker crackling and popping very occasionally. It's happening consistently with this game, and other than this game I don't do anything else resource heavy on my phone, and the popping only occurs once or twice every few minutes.
Anyone else come across something like this?
Genshin Impact issues
Indeed, I faced similar problems while using my S20+, the settings I have set them only to render in medium for resolution, and low for every other setting at 30 fps, it still has that popping issue. Anyone could help to solve this? Or is this something the game developers Mihoyo has to fix?
Sounds like the note 7 all over again. I’d carry a fire extinguisher with you..

I sent an email to the developer of Robo Defense to let him know that game isn't working on our phones and that it's causing freezing issues as well as overheating. He asked me to send him the log dump from my phone and he just responded with an inquiry to test it out without the sound enabled. He's suspecting sound to be cause of the issue
Now i just played the game for 10minute or so without sound enabled and it ran great without a hitch and it didn't get hot enough for me to get worried
Can some of you run the game without sound for a prolong period of time to see if it works?
Also based on the description, it looks like there is an issue with sound with atrix as well
Atrix: Disable sound to improve stability

I have always played RD with disabled sound, and it works just fine on SGS2. It does heat up however quite high, and eats TONS of battery juice. With sound off (my usual mode) I would say it heats up about as much as "Aporkalypse" or "Plants vs Zombies" (both no sound too)
P.S. thanks for doing the work with the dev.
Same on mine. No sound it works, sound it freezes. Mine doesnt get any hotter than my n1 did while playing and its still chugging after a year and a half so I'm taking that to mean that the heat is not an issue..... hopefully lol

If you run it with sound on and it freezes, it gets hot if you don't close out robo defense
So i got quite a few levels of robo defense completed with sound turned off and it plays great without any issues. No high heat issues either

I cant say as I ever sat there with it froze waiting to see if the phone would get hot. It does not when it is running gimped with the sound off, it gets no hotter than it did when functioning normally as on the N1.
It's true of other games unfortunately. Galcon and Apparatus both also crash when sound is enabled. Some games of the market specifically indicate to disable sound to increase stability, though don't specifically say this device.
I have reported issues to the Apparatus developer(s) and they indicated difficulty tracking down causes for freezing.
I've been playing it since I got my GS2 4 weeks ago. Its running fine without the sounds. I do not have a problem with heat. Its the same with other games when played for long periods of time. Good game

Sadly i had to since i was trying to get the author of the game some fresh logs while it was freezing up and it got hot enough to get me worried after a few minutes
Ah, thanks for that. I had some oddity when I was on villian rom where the phone would overheat and shut down. Never did find figure it out but there is most def a problem with the cpu going to 100% and not clocking back down for whatever reason under certain conditions and I would guess you were seeing that here. My phone shut down a few times before I figured out it was heat as it would do it sitting idle after use and I had to "catch it in the act" before I figured out it was overheating. Then I stuck it out and tried to associate it with an app or service but failed to do so. Must have overheated it a half dozen times before I started getting nervous and switched roms. At any rate I know that at least my phone can take a few overheats to shut down and survive. In the back of my mind though is the thought that I might have taken some of the life out of the phone as who knows how good the thermal protections are?
I have had this problem on the sgs2 but I stopped it freezing by ticking the option "reduce framerate". I still get sound but both sound and graphics are not as good. This game was awesome on my Nexus One
Just a +1 from me with Robodefence and the SGS2
Robodefence freezes every few minutes, but there does seem to be a pattern in that it will freeze on exactly the same level several times in a row. If I manually save and exit every level or two then it will run for about 5 levels after the last game save and then freeze.
I have submitted several error reports.

Go into options and untick enable sound. Not as good without sound but you soon get used to it....still keeps me amused for an hour each day
i played two variantes of robodefense (simple+HD)(sound enabeled) and had no problems so far ,now is the first time i hear about this in this thread

Same here, played it for 2 months with sound on and off and haven't had a single issue.
heavygunner from com2us also crashes on sgs2 when the sound is turned on. wierd.
I was reading on the Note 8 the other day and started noticing that the left side of the tablet gets pretty warm/hot. Is it just me or does anyone else have this issue? The rest of the tablet remains cool- just the left side around the middle.

This issue already discussed before. It is quite normal for a device to get some heat. Anyway, I think there is a big difference between warm and hot. If your device really gets HOT, then it is a problem. My device gets warm as well as you described, but I wouldn't say it gets hot or uncomfortable to hold. I think the temperatures quite similar to my SGS3.
CPUs and GPUs put out heat. Batteries put out heat. The more intensive the activity (particularly watching video, gaming, internet use and GPS) the more heat will be generated. This is a fact with all tablets, and computers in general. I'd think it was strange if the device didn't get warm somewhere. Heat on the left side is completely normal, although not sure what component (CPU, battery, etc.) is located there.
Now its impossible to tell what OP means exactly by "warm" or "hot" as this are not quantitive in any way. It shouldn't get hot enough to be uncomfortable (or even hurt) to hold in any way. Excessive heat may be an indicator of a faulty battery or some other hardware defect. But usually not. And the device will shut itself down long before a temperature is reached, that will hurt anything (if that is what you are worried about).
There are ways for the system to tell you the temperature, but I think its only at one location (CPU?) which may not be the problem area. So measuring this way may have limted usefulness in real life.
That is the location of the cpu unit so I wouldn't worry about it unless it gets very disconcertingly hot.

Im using the Sansung OEM cover. Holding it in portrait mode, mine gets "warm" on the left side near the edge... but only when its in my pocket and its in sleep mode and wifi is turned off. Kinda fels like my BlackBerry when its polling for a tower, it gets real warm. I have a N5110 wifi no radio so trying to determine why the warm up.
Regards,
Heat "problem"?

My Galaxy Note 8 has this problem. I installed an app which read the temperature and it reaches 40°C when I play video games. It has the power saving mode on. Is it normal? I'm worried about this

i've installed diagnosis app to check the temp, mine reaches ~40C(i think this is the battery temp) when i play also. so i think many of us is experiencing this *____*
Just with normal use the left side of my unit is getting annoyingly warm. Hopefully they can fix this with an update or something. I'm experiencing this on stock, anyone on custom software experiencing this too?

Hey thanks for all your input guys. It's good to know I'm not the only one experiencing these problems. So far, I don't think it's bothering me to the point that I wish to call Samsung up for a replacement. It does get a bit warmer especially if I have the pen out and writing some notes. I do also understand it's more than likely that the cpu is located there but I've never had a warming problem w/ other smartphones and tablets I've had.
Either way, thanks for all the input!
I agree

I agree with you, my father's got an iPad mini and the gadget doesn't present warming problems and battery life is much better. Do you think all Note 8 devices present the same problem? I'm thinking seriously of replace mine for a brand new Note 8.0 but if it presents the same problem, I'll be wasting my time...
Hi, I have just upgraded my 12.2 last night to 5.1.1 , since updating i have noticed 2 things with 2 games i play:
Clash Of Clans - Quality of the screen looks a little less in the game than it was plus when i start the game i get like a white streak at the very bottom of my screen and then the game starts afterwards.
Boom Beach - The quality of the graphics in this game looks much worse than it did before, i have checked that the quality was still set to high which it was, things just dont look sharp like they did before.
Is there something they have done in 5.1.1 to make the tablet cope with games better by reducing the quality or something?
Any advice?
Regards
James
I would thinks it's the other way around... That it's the games going into some sort of comparability mode if it's not updated to work with 5.1.1 on a screen with those specs (Rez and size) and/or not updated to run on 5.1.1 and our Exynos chips.. I'm speculating here, but I've never heard of the device maker doing the dance around , it usually the devs having to play catchup with updates to ensure their software plays well on the hardware. Good luck and check patches and updates for your games!
Having the same problem here with display after updating in 5.1.1, in almost every app and in browsing. Everything seems to be displayed in low quality aftr the upgrade. I own a tab pro 12.2 german version..

The SAME EXACT thing happened to me on Boom Beach and Clash of Clans, more so on Boom Beach. It just started happening about 1 week ago, the "new Jellybean update" was within the last 2 weeks for me and now the games don't work very well. I get a flash of white distorted and enlarged graphic icons that flash across the bottom (like the poorest resolution possible) then it starts up and looks terrible. I've uninstalled both games and reinstalled them because I thought that I did something wrong and messed it up. I'm actually debating on uninstalling and not playing the games now because it's terrible. Silver lining, at least someone else in the world is having the same problem and it's not my tablet about to croak. I was worried I burned out my tablet.
hi there.
does anyone experience this issue.
while playing a game. especially a CPU intensive game. there is random noise coming from the speakers besides the game music/sound effects.
while gaming you won't notice it. so hold the speaker close to your ear. it is very noticeable.
it's not audible when on high volume.
more around 1/3 volume setting.
noticed it while playing for the first time on my P2.
the game was marvel contest of champions.
if it's only my device. then I will have to RMA it.

So I'm not the only one noticing this whirring/noise.
It's only there in games but not while using youtube or other apps that output music.
I haven't looked for a fix yet as i had thought it's an manufacturing issue.
I never experienced that on any of my other phones.
I think we will know when someone trys to reproduce the issue and reports back that he/she doesn't have that issue.
Good afternoon XDA,
Checking in to see if anyone else is experiencing this issue.
During gaming I will receive a single pop that is not characteristic of whatever is being output to the speakers, this isolated popping occurs once every 30-seconds to a minute apart. This pop maintains the same volume as the rest of the sound being produced. This issue (from my experience) seems to only be produced in games, because whenever I run any tone range clip from youtube it produces no popping.
Has anyone experienced anything similar to this? I know a number of users are experiencing overt speaker popping on their units, but this seems to me to be a different issue, possibly software/dac related, instead of the speaker failure the other users are experiencing.
p.s. I can replicate this issue with ATMOS turned on and off.
Anyone have any ideas, or share this experience?
Same.
I can replicate this as well. Exactly the same as OP.
Yes! My God finally found others with this issue. I've gone through a replacement and still have the same popping during games. My memory isn't that good but I believe this only started happening after the 8.1 update. Along with WiFi 5ghz now draining my battery in 1 day on idle when before I could go a week on idle/low usage.
