I downloaded the September security patch and UI 2.5 update over the air for my Verizon Note 10+ the other day. Since then, my cell service is non existent. I can't make any calls or use any data, it only works using wifi. The signal bars are grayed out, or sometimes have an "x" next to them. The airplane mode is not on, but the airplane mode icon is a shade of light blue rather than being either gray for off or blue for on. I tried chatting with VZ since it was after hours....that didn't help. They had my fiddle with resetting network settings and doing a factory reset, neither worked. I've taken the sim out and reinserted, no luck. If not on wifi, SIM status says network = not available, mobile network state = disconnected, service state = radio off, IMS registration status = off. It's a non rooted virgin VZ Note 10+, SM-N975U, not 5G, running android 10.
Today I went to an authorized VZ store, who replaced the SIM. Didn't change a thing. They suggested I go to an actual VZ store, which I would have but couldn't look up on web without a signal. They directed me to one who swapped the SIM again and had me do another reset. No luck. They popped the SIM in another phone and it worked, just no luck in my phone.
VZ tech coaches said I was on my own and to reach out to Samsung or Google because it must be a hardware issue. How does a software update cause a hardware problem? They had no response.
Anyone have any ideas?
Make sure everything you want is backed up...
Try resetting network settings and clearing the system cache on the boot menu.
If that doesn't work, try a hard boot.
You can also try uninstalling the last update if it permits to go back to the factory load version.
Last if that fails, hard reset.
If that don't get it it will need to be reflashed...

Thanks, I've tried all of the above except the uninstall (which I don't believe it will allow) and the reflash. I haven't installed a ROM or anything like that since the HTC Touch days. Ha. So, I need to find a copy of VZ firmware or factory ROM? #Noob

If it's still under warranty let Samsung do it. In the US they have centers as well at Best Buys.
See what your bloody carrier says
That sucks.
If you bought through a carrier, don't you get a couple years warranty?
The Note 10 series has only been out just over a year so they should honour any warranty...

I got it the first day it came out, so JUST over a year. No more warranty. I also cheaped out on the VZ insurance since I baby my phones. The thing is pristine kit and would want insurance for loss, theft or droppage, not because a factory update bricked it.
:crying:
Reflashed to an earlier version from a month ago from sammobile....still no data.
Connections>mobile data>access point names
Is that configured?
Settings>About phone>status>Sim card status
Does it show a signal?
There are deeper settings but that's as much as I know.
I think it's a settings or firmware issue not blown hardware.
Someone here can help you... be patient.
Are you able to add Apn?

Thanks for the encouragement and advise. I still owe $500 on this $1,000+ phone, so it's just frustrating.
Access point name was not selected (radio button was not selected). I selected the only option "Verizon Internet/VZWINTERNET"
SIM card status says signal is -113dBm 0 asu, network not available, radio off, mobile network state disconnected

No, I don't think so. The "Add" Access Point Names is grayed out. It will only allow me to change the APN name for the existing APN, not any of the other settings mentioned in the link.

So you do have leverage with Verizon; make them own* it if possible.
Not sure how Verizon tech support is structured but ask for advanced tech support. Escalate the case if need be. Keep calling back if the reps don't know what to do until you find the smart ones.
Try their customer retainment group if all else fails, they are the ones that make the last ditch effort by the carrier to try to keep you from leaving.
A samsung Experience center might be your best bet as they can do advanced diagnostics... or so they've claimed. Never used these myself.
Their phone tech support is horrible; the US Samsung group are the best of this lot.
*Doesn't always work but many times I've gotten AT&T and Verizon (landline) to remedy situations. There been times where it took dozens of calls to find the right person and for them to feel my motivation, lol.
There's more than one way to hack...
I had the same problem as you after the update and after playing in the settings it turned out that the set data limit was turned on, I turned that off and my data is working again. Look under the data usage and see if that's it for you.

After the last few factory resets, I did get warnings from the "setup wizard" about data being limited due to time of day or a data limit....but the data limit and/or warnings are not on. The phone won't even activate, yet somehow Google recognizes the phone number and all during install. So, I'd think it could read the SIM.
Found some very helpful reps at a local Verizon store. While they couldn't fix the phone, I will allegedly receive a refurbed unit tomorrow with no deductible.

What about time settings? Are they correct?
>It be preferable to keep this unit if you took great care of it, many don't!<
A Samsung Experience center has advanced diagnostic capabilities (allegedly) and/or could reflash it.
I think it's either a settings or firmware issue not hardware.
Play with it, Android's love attention... or get it more surrogate wuv before you give up on it.
Be patient there's a lot of talent here.

I just got my Note 2 five days ago. If I don't turn on the screen, or use the phone in any way, I can maybe get 18 hours of battery life. The battery option shows almost all usage by Android OS. Keep Wake duration is whatever time has passed since the last full charge.
I dug a little deeper and it seems that it is "rilprocess" that is calling a full wake state. At least that was the process that appeared in the list of the app I used. Under it were 20-30 sub processes. This would seem to make sense as the phone seems to transfer data over WiFi or Mobile Data (if WiFi is disabled) constantly at a rate of 1-2KB/sec. If I disable both WiFi and Mobile Data, the problem goes away. Obviously this isn't a solution though. If I'm going to forgo data usage, what's the point of a smartphone?
Here's the kicker: This is still and issue after a full factory restore. I entered as much as I needed to get to the home screen. The only app I downloaded was Battery Stats Plus. Again, there are NO USER INSTALLED APPS! It's not something I installed. When I first noticed the issue I systematically uninstalled every application I could. I then went through the settings and disabled every bell and whistle I could (including backing up phone data to Google and any syncing). In fact I went so far as to delete my GMail account from the phone entirely. No e-mail, no messaging. Nothing. Still the issue persists. Then I did the factory reset as I said before, to see if the problem persisted. It did.
Does anyone have a suggestion? I am thinking at this point it may be a hardware problem, or else everybody with this phone from my provider would be experiencing the same problems, right? So perhaps have the phone replaced and hope it's a faulty radio? I tried to trace the outgoing data but couldn't. Even packet sniffers detected nothing. I am at a loss.
Edit: This should probably be in the general Note 2 forum. I am not with Sprint, I am with Bell Mobility.
Ril has to do with the network so it could be that your device isnt fully activated causing it to continuously poll the activation Site used by hands free activation. If you still have your MSL from when you activated the device you can go to settings> about phone> status and write down your # and MIN. Then dial ##786# and reset using the MSL then once it reboots dial ##72786# > select edit> enter MSL> manually enter your # and MIN and reboot. This will re provision the phone on the network and solve any incomplete activation issues.

This is the best suggestion I have read so far. It does make sense. In fact now that you mention it, when I use the self service app and try to look at my plan it says "No Data Available" and tells me my monthly bill is 0 dollars. I asked my provider about this and they told me it would update on its own, but it's been a couple of days and I just checked again, sure enough, no data showing under my service plan.
Can I have technical support re-provision over the phone? It's not that I can't follow your instructions, but I pay a lot of money to these guys for cellular service, and if it's their problem, I think they ought to solve it.
Thanks again for the reply. You have taken me from no hope of a solution at all to some hope that I might get this resolved.

Yes they can do it. Call in and say something like "I'm having trouble connecting to the Internet and phone calls. I've tried updating the PRL and Profile (if its a cdma device which im assuming cuz gsm provisions by pulling sim and replacing it) and a factory reset and I keep getting an error message. A few times when I've tried to make calls immediately after the data error I'll get a message that tells me my device is not activated and to call customer support. Can you please help me?" Then they will give you your MSL and walk you through the same or similar steps I listed above. Just make sure you call from a different phone cuz they'll want you to do everything while your on the phone with them to make sure its resolved.

Well I just got off the phone with technical support who assures me that every phone on their network that received the 4.1.2 update is experiencing the same issue, and that it has to do with the phone connecting to LTE. Of course when I disable mobile data and use only WiFi, it does the exact same thing. I feel like I got the run around. I'm just going to return the thing tomorrow and have my old 3GS reprovisioned. Maybe when Android OS 5 comes out it's not an issue any more and I can buy the newest gen phone then.
Thanks a ton for your help! Stymied by technical support!

Have you tried setting your mobile network to cdma only to see if disabling lte fixes it? I can get 20hrs with 7hrs screen on on mine consistently. I have 2 batteries I swap out when I wake up. I go to bed with 30% wake up about 28% and use it til 15% then change rinse and repeat. And during the day my screen is on almost constantly.

Well the guy reprovisioned the data connection, and now if I disable WiFi it seems to sleep properly, and the orange downstream arrow doesn't continuously flash every second like it did. But if I turn on WiFi it refuses to sleep again, and that steady data tick is back. And the RIL interface has been replaced by com.test.LTETestModeSetting, which says "Full wakelock 2d 3h 33m". Does the wake lock apply only to the process calling it, or is it a global thing?
I have been trying to figure out what's going on the this battery problems I have as well it seems if I reboot my phone one time it will be great than the next horrible I have better battery stat and nothing out of the ordinary from what i can see just the audio wake lock but that's only killing like 45 mim battery ever 17 hrs so i guess that's good. When i talked to Sprint yesterday the guy at the store said they were working I'm a update ot will still be 4.1.2 but he said should improve data lte connection and battery who knows though I hope he knows what he is talking about

Well I had my phone replaced, and that seems to have solved the problem. The only outstanding issue at this point is that WiFi constantly ticks when its enabled. I have read some things about 2.4ghz versus 5ghz networks, and I will look into that. I have 2 routers. One has the issue, the other has the issue plus authentication issues. At any rate, I just set the phone to shut off WiFi when sleeping, and that allows me to live with it. Hopefully the issue goes away with the next update.
In just a few days, I'll be upgrading my trusty, old reliable HTC Incredible 2 to a Samsung GS4. I plan to hand down my DInc 2 to my grandson to use as a Wi-Fi only Android device (music, games, Skype), but I'd like to insure he doesn't inadvertently hop on the VZ network with my existing cell phone number and knock me off the mobile network.
Is there a way to permanently disable cell service on the Incredible 2?
Thanks!

Now that I've wiped and installed about six different ROMs on my retired DInc2, I remembered why I wanted a deeper solution. Every time I factory default (or install a new ROM), the phone tries to reach out to the Verizon mother ship, possibly interfering with my new phone.
Is there a way, perhaps by using QPST or through the EPST (##778) menu, to zero out the mobile voice/text/data info in the phone so that it survives reboots and ROM flashes?

I did try the QPST equivalent (CM10 ROMs don't support ##778) and cleared out my MDN, MCC and MIN. Ironically, I wasn't getting the "Activate your phone" bugivation before I cleared them, but am now. It would seem that Verizon believes an unprogrammed phone ... requires programming (activation).
I've installed SManager and have radiooptions 1 set on each boot, and have the phone in Airplane Mode. This should be sufficient for my grandson, unless he starts mucking around.

its impossible for your grandson to "interfere" with your phone once its deactivated in their switch. CDMA access is granted/denied via imei codes, and if the line that has your # associated with it has your GS4's imei associated with it, then its relegated to using the global roaming capability based upon the sim card which would have nothing to do with your service, even if he went to the UK and hopped on vodaphone (verizons partner/parent company) i wouldnt worry about it. Just make sure you factory reset and that hes signed in to the play store with his gmail account, and you shouldnt have any "crosstalk" between devices...
cheers

sense based roms will default to the "activate your phone" screen if its not activated, unless the dev has removed that part from the script. CM roms, in my experience, have the tendency to skip that part. My dinc2 is deactivated and factory reset (it was donated to me so i could have a new droid to try to break, making it the 6th in my current collection) and there simply isnt a way (apart from imei cloning) for your grandson to futz with your service once your old phones imei has been rmoved from vzw's activation system. Not trying to beat a dead horse here, just trying to be as informative/helpful as i can whilst avoiding sounding like a ****
Hi Folks,
So I'm posting in the Tmobile side since I picked up a Tmobile S4 even though I'm using it on AT&T to see if its a Tmobile thing, maybe some conflict from running on AT&T or just doesn't work at all...
I setup and have created/logged in with a Samsung account in the accounts pane and when I go online to try to find the phone I get two things. The first is the site says its not available in my region. And the second is following some details on their site about enabling it on the phone aren't working. It says add a Samsung account (done), go to settings, more, security then remote management (or remote control) then more steps but there is no remote management or remote control listed under settings.
Is this working for anyone at all?

Signing up and logging in to your tmobile, google or AT&T accounts are optional
and have nothing to do with how or if your phone will work.
You don't need to sign on to any of these three for your phone to work properly.
If your Tmobile M919 Galaxy S4 is NOT UNLOCKED it will not work on any network
except Tmobile.
It will not work with AT&T unless the phone is UNLOCKED.
Either way, the main thing I was trying to say is whatever your problem is it has
nothing to do with signing into tmoble or AT&T or gmail.
All three of those things are optional and have no effect on the phone working properly.
Awesome good to know. Now the only question is has anyone else gotten it to actually work if they have tried?

It's difficult to say if it will work or not since I have NO idea of what the problem is to start with.
All I know is that you have an Tmobile Galaxy S4 cell phone.
I don't even know if you ever tried a Tmobile sim card in it or whether the phone is unlocked and so on.
So I don't know how to be more helpful to you.

You still are very unclear in what your really want to know, I still do not even know if your phone ever worked properly for you.
I still don't even know if your phone is UNLOCKED or not and I don't even know if you have a at&t sim or a tmobile sim card.
You never mention these things in any of your posts so how can anyone confirm anything you are asking to be confirmed?
If you use your phone on the Tmobile network you will have the option of free wifi calling which does not count against cellular minutes.
On the AT&T network there will be no option at all for wifi calling.
All the other features and options on the Galaxy S4 whether it's on the AT&T network or Tmobile network will be exactly the same.
You will not see or find any differences at all except for the wifi calling which I wrote about.
Anyway I am a bit busy, so I cannot help you anymore but I am sure there will be a lot of other people
here who can help you even more than I can.
Perhaps a mind reader will give you a hand if your lucky enough to find one.
The question is clear. Has anyone had this option ever work for them?
To be honest I am not sure how the option works but it maybe GPS related if Samsung is controlling it and not the carrier.

The question has nothing to do with whether the phone is network locked or not; or what carrier's sim card is installed. It has to do with whether a specific function in an app works or not for AT&T users with a TMO device. I have an unlocked TMO version on AT&T network, I'll try what you are talking about and get back with you. I'm reverting back to my stock backup to check. I can't seem to find the particular app you're using through Samsung apps and it doesn't appear to be present on the debloated stock ROM I'm using.

My experience so far is that I also cannot access the feature. You are correct in the fact that the "Remote Control" tab doesn't exist under Settings->More->Security. It should be below "Encrypt Device" but it isn't. The website findmymobile.samsung.com says that once you activate/register your Samsung account on the device, that menu will automatically be enabled; but from my experience (and yours as well apparently) that is definitely not the case.
I did a little research, and within a few minutes I was directed to a thread here on XDA from the SIII forums talking about this particular problem. Apparently, the carriers themselves have removed the ability to use Samsung's built-in mobile location features in preference of the carrier's own mobile location apps and services.
dumb! but I figured out that lookout can do it. going on 24 hours since I picked it up and dusting off my android cobwebs still for how I used to get by a year ago. Was trying to have to install some 3rd party app that I didn't know so tried the built in stuff with no luck but with lookout pre installed and I already know it I figure that should work just fine for me. Thanks folks for the feedback and conversation!

AH, so that's what the guy was looking for, I just could not make much sense of what he was asking after reading his posts.
There are several apps at the play store which have the same or similar capabilities.
Here is a link to one of them, it's called "find my phone" it's a free app which finds phones which have been stolen or lost etc.

Yeah, but if it's supposed to be provided by the manufacturer it would stand to reason that it would be available to everyone who bought the device. Apparently though, our carriers tend to believe their own software is far superior to that of those who manufactured the device... I personally don't even use that stuff as I never turn GPS on in the first place; so in the event that my phone is stolen or lost, that kind of software won't do me any good to begin with.
Ok so for some reason my phone keeps making a phone call everyday to some weird number and I can't find how it's doing that.
The phone number isn't even showing up in my recent calls but in the end I see that I'm losing 0,30 every day sometimes even twice on phone call
I looked up which apps have permission to phone but can't find any thing suspicious. Also looked up the phone number but again it's not listed anywhere.
Is there someone else experiencing this as well, is it some kind of virus?
I tried contacting my provider but they can't do anything all they say is block the phone number but even if I block it I still managed to lose money on it
short answer:
Titanium backup - only backup the only few necessary apps like the game you are in middle or chat messenger.
Factory reset if phone is not rooted. Wipe and flash a new rom if its rooted.
There are virus/spy apps/adwares doing things like this and some of them hide itself well (fake into some system name) it is hard to teach you how to catch it if you are not familiar with android framework and system etc.
Don't worry about it, just give me your credit card details and I'll check it out for you...

If by some chance you have contracted an ETD (Electronically Transmitted Disease), I would say a clean install, of just about any ROM, should fix it up no worries.
Maybe check your APN settings? Mine reverts to some stupid APN every now and then which seems not to include my data plan.

Try changing system theme to default once, and enter apn settings again, it should work.

You said you couldn't find the number to which calls are made. Then how did you manage to block the number? Are you sure it is due to 'call' and not due to some SMS or internet usage? Turn off mobile data for a day and also delete/change the message centre number by dialing *#*#4636#*#* >phone settings> SMSC. This would prevent all SMS from being sent and you'd also receive a notification like 'failed to send message'. This could help you to figure out the issue more clearly. If nothing works, insert the SIM in some other phone and check.
Ladies and gentlemen of XDA, I have come before you today to admit to my defeat.
I have scoured the internet and tried all kinds of fixes and such and still no luck. So hopefully someone here can help me figure out what I'm missing.
I rooted both my husband's and my G955u. Both of our phones took the root well and were performing spectacularly. Then, randomly one day, something went glitchy with my phone. For some reason or another, I ended up putting the phone in airplane mode. For the life of me I can't remember why. The airplane mode icon would not turn back off. I turned the phone off and back on. Each time, I see the signal connection icon at the top, but there are no bars filling it. I cannot call, text, or use data unless I am connected to wifi.
I unrooted and flashed back to stock. No fix. I applied other root methods. Still no fix. Factory reset, cleared cache, took sim card out. Still nothing. Sim card works fine in other devices and no sim card will work in my phone. I have flashed each and every stock (2bqk5, 2bql1, 2brb1) with no luck. Took it all the way back down to 2bqk5 and allowed ota updates all the way to 2brb1. Still nothing.
Had an error for a while that when I entered recovery mode, it would either show no command or error followed by a screen saying that it had failed to unmount my EFS. That screen isn't showing up anymore, so I somehow fixed that. My IMEI and SN are both showing and are both correct. Phone network shows unknown. Mobile network shows state as connected. Mobile network type shows as IWLAN. Not Roaming, IMS registration status is on.
I have tried to flash the combined tar file of the modem and the Nonhlos.bin I extracted from my stock bql1 files. Flashed through Odin, still no fix.
I am at a total and complete loss. I don't know what else to try. Husband's root is still intact and working great. Can anyone help a noob figure out what I haven't done yet? I'm sure I'm missing something stupidly obvious. Any and all help is greatly appreciated and stories of your epicness will be told by my children's children of the time I was saved from the purgatory that is no cell service by the heroes of XDA.

Solved on my own. Downloaded the app shortcut master and launched secret menu #27663368378. Chose options 2,1,2,3,4 and restarted phone and I had network access again. Hooray!

Was just about to post about this, I too have been experiencing those issues, difference is my phone has not been rooted. Has the issue completely resolved?
Yes. That completely fixed my issues. You may not have to root to fix the issue if you can find the right secret code to access the service mode menu. But once the nv was restored, all was golden.
This is the screen you need to get to.
wow you went through all those downloads and flashes !
This was my first time ever rooting. I had no idea what I was doing or what exactly I needed to fix it I just knew I was pissed to high heaven and refusing to pay 200 for the replacement phone they said I needed.
Originally, geek squad tried to say that I had a chip failure due to the mipi device fail that showed up on menu *#0011#. But I didn't buy it. Turns out it wasn't a hardware issue. Just the NV data being a butt. Saved me 200 bucks. I'll take 50 million menus, flashes, and downloads over that anyway. That's what unlimited data and pdanet hotspot tether is for.
What did the menu have in it? I'm having a similar problem with not connecting to the network (unroot), but on my Galaxy S7. I've tried a million things, only to find out the "MIPI DEVICE FAILED".

I have the exact same issue on my S8+, MIPI device fail and can't get any network signal. On xfinity mobile here. I can't get that menu you're talking about, I downloaded Shortcut master and launch the menu you mentioned in your first post but it won't launch. Do I have to be rooted? Please help!
Mipi device failed. change the charging port and maybe it solves it. it has happened to me with a s7 and a note 8 and I have solved it by changing the loading port

I have the same issu on my G955U at&t variant. how did you solved the problem?
I'm having this issue in this model and the menu "*#27663368378# Chose options 2,1,2,3,4 and restarted phone" didn't solve, it will be necessary to change or reconnect the charging port or other part?
