Indic language support unavailability in Lineage OS 17.1 version - LineageOS Questions & Answers

I have tried going through many reference links for my below issue , but all of them are atleast the pre-Marshmallow age so couldn't find a proper solution
I have a Redmi 2 Prime mobile ( 2014 model ) and I have flashed it with Lineage OS 17.1 version ( Android 10 ) ( exact version is lineage-17.1-20200711-nightly-wt88047-signed.zip ) along with OpenGApps pico version ( open_gapps-arm-10.0-pico-20200725.zip ). The device came up fine, most other things which I have checked also is working fine, except for Indic language support. I am specifically looking for Malayalam ( South Indian language ). When I try to add it in languages section, it shows the name of language itself as garbage. I tried adding GBoard and Google Indic keyboard, but when I select Malayalam->English, it says 'Your device does not support this language' above the space bar of keyboard . When I add Malayalam language( by typing in English and selecting the only option that comes ), Google Play services is shown to check for some language support online but quickly stops and nothing happens. I checked accessing a web page in this language in Google Chrome and it rendered nicely. But on checking some other pages, it is the same junk( both in page and the Google search results for it )
Could someone help me with what I should try to get this fixed?

If it's about lineageOS user interface, you can help to translate
https://crowdin.com/project/lineageos/ml-IN#
For keyboard you can try anysoft

Thanks for the reply.
I am not sure if Lineage OS itself is lacking this support or if I just need to install a font or language support. I tried downloading Google Indic keyboard(which usually downloads a language pack and then proceeds fine in my previous mobiles(Moto G2 and Redmi with MIUI ) but here it doenst seem to do the trick.
I will try to install font and see if it helps. Thanks for the tip

I tried installing a font using TWRP( font in zip format and copying to /system/fonts/ ). On reboot, I still saw it is not supported. So I did some debug. From TWRP, I again flashed the font, using the file manager in TWRP I browsed the location and made sure it is copied. I pressed the reboot in TWRP window itself, rebooted and once in , again rebooted to TWRP, browsed to the location using File manager and saw the files are not there. It seems whatever fonts I install from TWRP are not persisting after reboot. I am missing something when I flash the fonts?
if it helps to get a clue on my issue - The same happens for Magisk. I install the zip via TWRP, I confirm it is doing the job via logs shown in TWRP, but when I boot to OS, install Magisk Manager, it says Magisk is not installed ( I saw some bugs raised in github, which were closed without proper explanation )

Yes. Magisk issues are not accepted by lineageOS team. Maybe your issue is magisk related aswell. In your case i would start from scratch with wiping system and data and installing lineageOS only.

At last I was able to resolve this issue( as mentioned in my comment in https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=83561275&postcount=435 ). The issue seems to be with the font i tried earlier. Now I got a full set of font package and was able to install it and use

What did you use? I have just used WinDroid Universal Toolkit to unlock bootloader, flash TWRP and root the phone. It worked, although it did take me a while to get it sorted due to issues with the drivers.
Everything seems to be working.
I hope it can help.
I have the same model, chinese version.
open HTC market, and look for GMS.... app.
download it, launch it, and when required enter the code *#*#.....
it will download somethink like 150M, your mobile will reboot, and at the end you'll find all google app in your mobile.
done.
without root, unlock or other
PLease can you write detaily ? What you said is unclear for me.
1. What do you mean with HTC Market ? I do not have HTC Market. It is called AppMarket and all in Chinese.
2. There are lots of GSM apps there and nothing worked in AppMarket.
Can you put url here ?

4)launche the app
5) you'll be prompted to remove the SD card before proceed. when done press OK
6) the app will download more or less 190M. be sure to be connected to a wifi
7) when done, you'll be required to enter the code *#*#442#*#* in the phone dialer
8) the phone will reboot in recovery and will install the play store and all gapps
9) the phone will reboot

Hi,
No official international rom so far (I doubt if it's planned, this phone's target is Asia)
Convenient solution is to flash GAPPS on top of existing software (without erase, just clear cache). Base package can be found at htcui[dot]com//androidrom/htc_820_rom [replace dot] - look for BillGates-li tread (you may need to use chrome with translation, as it's all Chinese). I'm sorry for confusion, but due to rookie rank, I'm not allowed to post external links.
Beware, each major upgrade (that flashes, not patches) will erase those GAPPS.
You'll need:
- customer recovery .img (can be found in orygnial android development section)
- fastboot (to flash i.e. install it)
- (suggested) original recovery.img (to enable future upgrades from HTC, that will download but not install on custom recovery)
Don't forget to backup before flashing - "just'n'case".

GMS App not working
Hi, just bought an HTC 820us, and just like everyone, no google apps. What's weird is that my phone is not even recognized by HTC sync manager, Windroid, HTC tool, fastboot under command line or any other program.
I'm unable to get this device's token in order to unlock the bootloader and install google apps, root, etc. When I try to install the GMS app I get an "App not installed error". If anyone finds a solution for this i'll be more than happy to donate to the cause.
Thanks for reading!

well, I have the same device since two days and I still try to install google play without success yet. it is possible at all or I can just use a limited version of this smartphone?
this is my first android phone and I have no idea what to do...any suggestions are welcome
found a solution
Ok, so after dealing with this phone for a while I found many solutions for the common problems of having an imported phone from china.
I found solutions for: Google Apps, Root, CallerID mismatch (Contacts not recognized when receiving calls due to chinese format of their CallerID)
- How to install Google Apps
1. Do a Factory Reset of your phone in the recovery screen (volume down+power button)
2. Download the GMS安装器 apk in your computer from google or any other source, make sure it's the apk with the android robot with the google apps logo in it. (app is no longer distributed in the included App Market)
3. Tranfer the downloaded file to a SD card (32gb maximum size or else it wont be recognized)
4. Insert the SD card in your phone
5. Using the "File Transfer" app in your phone copy the GMS app to the phone's "Download" folder.
6. Enable "Unknown Sources" in Settings/Security/Device Administration
7. Install the App, DON'T RUN IT. (Installation failed for me at first, a factory reset solved this)
8. Unmount the SD Card
9. Using the "File Transfer" app, install the GMS apk
10. Follow the instructions the GMS app is giving you, remember to remove the SD card before installation
11. The app will download something like 200mb, after that it will ask you to enter a code in your phone's dialer, enter it, it will automatically will reboot.
12. If you are lucky, the phone will have all Google Apps installed.
- Root
Once you have Google apps installed, it's easier for some root exploits to work.
1. Use Kingo Root for windows, it will try many methods of Rooting your device, the one that worked used an installation of various apps. Kingo root needed "USB Debugging" activated in Settings/Developer Options. If you don't have the Developer options menu enabled, please google it.
Once you have Root access it's easier to remove the Chinese apps that came with the phone.
- How to fix the CallerID not recognizing contacts problem
1. Download and Install "ES File Explorer" using the Google Play Store app.
2. Allow Root access when prompted to.
3. Head over to the "Tools" menu using the button in the upper left corner of the "ES File Explorer" app.
4. Enable "Root Explorer"
5. Click on "Root Explorer"
6. Click on "Mount R/W
7. Set "/system" to the RW value.
8. Press OK
9. Navigate to: Local, then /Device/system
10. Look for file named: "build.prop" and open it
11. Open it using ES Note Editor
12. Edit the file (using the 3 dots menu on the upper right corner)
13. Find the entry named: ro.phone.min_match=11 and change the number to 7.
14. Entry has to be named ro.phone.min_match=7
15. Press the return button, it will ask you to save changes, save them.
16. Just in case, remove the RW access mentioned in step 7.
17. Go to Settings/apps/all/ contacts and force stop, clear data
18. Do the same with the Contact Storage App.
19. Reboot Phone, cross your fingers and problem is solved.
I hope this helps a lot of people.
BTW: My phone is an HTC 820us, China Mobile.

I describe here how to get GAPPS for HTC D820US and maybe for any other "China-smartphone"
1_: Unmount the SD Card
2_: go to nduoa.com/package/detail/225445 with Chrome
3_: Right click on the page > translate to english
4_: Choose the green button next to blue one and above the other three green ones to download a small file called com.gmainstaller.apk
5_: install it
6_: this apk will download a file of abt. 246MB and needs following code in the dialer which pop-ups automatically [ code: * # * # 442 # * # * ]
7_: The device automatically restart and automatically install GAPPS, after the completion of all applications please check the list.
8_: if needed after all, download separately from "apkmirror.com" following two apk's: Google Play Services and Google Play Store.
tried on two HTC D820us and works like a charm

[DEBLOAT] Wileyfox Debloater - Quickly clean your Nougat-based Wileyfox device!

Hey all!
As you all know, Wileyfox has started rolling out Nougat for their devices, starting with the codenamed marmite family (Swift 2, 2 Plus and 2X models). With this new update, Wileyfox has also included a bunch of BLOATWARE I personally NEVER expected from them. I mean, I didn't request ads in my launcher, and why do I need to forcefully use Truecaller dialer instead of the cleaner, AOSP-based one? That's why I've created this Wileyfox Debloater tool, to keep the system apps as clean and stockish as possible.
App removals included:
- AndroidPay
- BasicDreams
- BookmarkProvider
- Google Books
- Chrome
- CMFileManager
- Drive
- Duo
- Gmail
- GooglePrintRecommendationService
- GoogleTTS
- Hangouts
- Keep
- Maps
- Google Music
- News and Weather
- PhotoTable
- talkback
- Google Videos
- WFChromeCustomization
- Youtube
- Contacts
- FoxHole
- Mms
- SnapdragonGallery
- TrueCaller
- All bundled-apps from /system/vendor/bundled-app
- Possibly more in the future.
(Note: All the moved Google Apps were removed for the sole reason that they can also be downloaded from the Play Store.)
App additons / other features included:
- Google Contacts, in replacement of the half-dummy, prebundled Contacts app (which was missing link with the Dialer).
- Google Dialer, in replacement of TrueCaller.
- Google Messages, in replacement of Wileyfox Mms app.
- AOSP's Launcher3, in replacement of FoxHole (Wileyfox's Launcher).
- Framework and permission files for Google Dialer to work.
- Small tweaks in the build.prop, including drop of min processors to work from 2 to 1, and rise of maximum processors to work from 4 to 8, as well as increasing the Android compiler default amount of processors from 4 to 6.
- Possibly more in the future, too.
Warning:
Code:
Your device's system partition [B]IS NOW [COLOR="Red"]TAMPERED[/COLOR][/B]. This implies two things:
1. You WILL NOT BE ABLE TO INSTALL ANY NEWER OTAs ON IT.
(To learn how to properly upgrade your device, kindly check post [URL="https://forum.xda-developers.com/swift-2/development/debloat-wileyfox-debloater-quickly-t3587536/post72258926#post72258926"]#25[/URL])
2. Your device MAY NOT BE ABLE TO BOOT UNLESS YOU DISABLE DM-VERITY.
(And to do so, the quickest way is to [B]install[/B] [B][URL="https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/official-magisk-v7-universal-systemless-t3473445"]Magisk[/URL][/B].)

- For more Wileyfox devices, coming soon
Installation instructions:
1. Update your device to Nougat
2. Unlock your bootloader and flash TWRP
3. Download the latest version zip
4. Boot into TWRP, make a backup if you wish (although is highly recommended), choose Install and locate and flash the ZIP.
5. Reboot and enjoy!
6. Are you missing missed calls notifications? Is the caller ID always showed as a number instead of a contact name during phone calls? Check post #16!
Uninstall instructions:

Enjoy, and don't forget to leave a Thanks if you loved it!
I'm also dissapointed that the OS is far from the pure AOSP.
But it is possible to tweak it without losing the future OTAs:
1. Install google launcher, google messenger
2. Install google phone from apk mirror - this version is working on my phone - http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google...-7-0-140861421-nonnexus-android-apk-download/
3. Deactivate truecaller, duo, news, ... - but be careful, some apps are needed for the system and remember to activate all apps before the OTA update...

That is also a possibility but:
1. Launcher3 conflicts with the already installed launcher, so it's impossible to get that out of the way
2. I got latest version working here using the required libraries (extracted from a Pixel), so yeah, probably both possibilities are just fine
And for the third one, just wanted to say there's no need to reactivate them (if you manage to deactivate them, ofc), and, all of the packages the script moves are stored in a safe place (/system/__bloat), so they can be restored from there
I don't remember if I had a problem with a previous OTA update for Wileyfox, but I was not able to install an update without reactivation a disabled app.
I'm not sure...
You could select a default launcher and the phone has really enough RAM, so I think it is not necessary to remove the FoxHole from the system.
But anyway, nice work! You could provide an uninstall instructions - if it is really possible. I hope that there can be an OTA update in the future...
The final solution for this is LineageOS, if they provide the source
Excellent! Thanks for providing this...such a stupid shame that Wileyfox decided to do this. I'm just hoping that they now release their sources so that we can start working on a proper release of Lineage!

Of course. The debloater doesn't delete any of your system apps, but move them to /system/__bloat. There you'll find 3 folders, the app, the priv-app and the vendor one, just cut and paste them back to /system and the deleted apps will come back. Also, don't forget to remove the framework files and permissions the debloater installs, such as /system/framework/com.google.android.dialer.support.jar and /system/etc/permissions/com.google.android.dialer.support.xml. You can also remove the the GoogleContacts, GoogleDialer, GoogleMessages and Launcher3 folders from /system/priv-app, and revert the build.prop tweaks (lines 164 and 165, change values from 1 and 8 to 2 and 4, line 196, change value from 6 to 4).
Reverting all of that, your system will go back as it came with the Nougat OTA.
Hello,
thanks for your effort to the community.
I have a question.
How do I install this? I've tried it with twrp but everytime I install twrp my device won't boot.
To repair this I flashed the newest "system.img".
But I can't replace my stock recovery.

Try downloading version 3.0.2-0 from TWRP download website, and flash it via the command
Code:
fastboot flash recovery <name-of-the-file>.IMG
Replacing name of the file for the actual filename of it. To enter fastboot mode, you should see a warning when you boot up your device. Hit any volume keys, and, using them, choose the fastboot mode and select it with the power key. Now you should be able to use the fastboot commands.

I'm already working on it... But it'll surely require substratum, which probably won't work out of the box just by flashing it from the recovery. I'm looking for solutions

Okay, can you try doing "fastboot boot" and the name of the image instead of flashing it? It will avoid bootloops, since it just boots to the image. Keep me posted, please.

I've tried different versions of twrp and different methods like "fastboot flash" and "fastboot boot" but everytime I flash something it gets stuck on booting up.
When I was on Marshmello I had this "dm-verity" message too but I could modify my system as I wanted and it booted up everytime, i had TWRP, your Speakermod, Magisk Mask etc installed no problem.
I think it has something todo with the update to Nougat.
How did you bring it run on your device?

Thanks, i've installed magisk mask again and the message didn't appeared.
I've also flashed your debloater and everything works fine.
Can I now flash TWRP or do I have to boot it up via fastboot everytime?

Try flashing it to your recovery partition, my guess is that now that DM-verity is disabled everything should work fine
Cheers!
Quick update post after two days of usage, yesterday I noticed I didn't receive any notifications on missed calls, and that the caller ID always showed as a number although I had it added as a contact.
I realised that I didn't have any "Phone" app chosen as default in Android settings, so I was missing those notifications until I opened the Google Dialer app.
In case it happens to you, to sort it out go into Settings > Apps, then hit the gear in the top right corner and make sure you've a config similar to this one (Launcher3, Google's "Phone" and Google's "Messages" chosen as default Home, Phone and Messaging apps).
I hope this is clear for everyone, since it's not something I can fix on my side/requires the user to do the change
I have TWRP, SuperSU, and Magisk. Marshmallow boots with no problem, but I get the dm-verity screen on boot with the message "dm-verity is not started in enforcing mode".
Does this mean dm-verity is disabled because it is not enforcing, or do I need to do something to stop the whole dm-verity screen appearing before I can successfully upgrade, debloater, and boot Nougat?

Firsts things first: After heavily modding the system like you did on Marshmallow, make sure not to update your device through the regular OTA but using a recovery image like the ones posted in this device's forum.
For magisk: are you sure you flashed it correctly? Magisk disables that dmverity message you are mentioning, so maybe you installed an old version or wasn't properly flashed.
My advice is: download everything: the recovery image, the debloater and Magisk. Boot into TWRP, wipe EVERYTHING if possible, including Data cache dalvik cache and system partitions. Once done, flash the recovery image zip, and right after that, without rebooting, flash the debloater and magisk. Reboot and everything should work perfectly

As soon as you root any Marshmallow/Nougat phone Android Pay will not work, according to this article
I have never used Android Pay so it doesn't make any difference to me. My phone is much better now that I have debloated it. I also installed Evie Launcher and Halo Browser, both small minimalist apps and everything is really smooth.
Instead of a Debloater, could the Stock ROM not be debloated and rezipped as a custom 'Lite' version?

[GUIDE] HiSENSE A2 (6.09.03.00 LATEST) GAPPS

HISENSE A2 (6.03 )
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3673945
global rom flashing guid and image. this is very good.
but too old version, so e-ink support poor version.
so I made custom system.img from (https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3673945)
instruction.
1. update a2 to 6.09
1.1. first HISENSE A2 version update to latest version(6.09)

Password: 15k5
1.2. down load and copy SdCard root `A2.bin`
1.3 power off phone
1.4 volume up + volume down and power button
if success sd card upgrade mode begin.
2. write my system.img for (6.09)
here is my hisense a2 'system.img'
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0Bzis7hPFLtDbX0xMWUNwNmdBYTA/view
extract and flashing previous A2 GUIDE.
3. after phone setup you must factory reset.
* simple edl mode enter able hisense a2 when debugging mode.
`adb reboot edl`
and use QFIL flashing
* menu language support only ch and eng.
thank you very much
In addition, can you add multi language, I want to add Japanese, thank you.
multi language can use with molocale2
I tried but too unstable.
you can use molocale2 change any language.

After using molocale2, I set it in Japanese, but most of the menus are still in English. Only the menu of Google is in japanese. Unable to use properly. Also, can you tell me how this ROM was modified?
Thanks
In addition, the ROM has a bug, when the input *1973461# into the System info menu, will be black screen, no display, the touch failed.

the menu languahe in the vision-setting.apk
if you add new language. you should modify vision-setting.apk
and add translated strings.
it cannot system.img write directly. because latest system.img not opened.
I just copy latest rom files to system.img

Hi,
I tried to update using the A2.rar file. This file seems to be password protected. 55933 seems to work here.
--
With the system image, at first I wondered how to flash this. After unpacking the file and following the instructions given in the above mentioned guide (https://forum.xda-developers.com/sho....php?t=3673945) it worked fine.
Using qfil I selected flat build, found the *firehose* file in the extracted directory and also the xml files (rawprogramm and patch) you have to select. Starting qfil phone was recognized as Hisense... at COM12 during the process it changed to Qualcomm... at COM13. I did not use adb commands (this did not work for me). For me qfil put the phone automatically in download mode.
Up to now all works fine. Menus are in english, some might be in chinese. Gapps, gmail and my old apps installed ok.
Thanks again to joygram
Password for archive is wrong?
@baistan the a2 file for the general system upgrade to 6.09.03 is hosted at a baidu site. You need the pw given by joygram to enter his baidu account. Then you have to install a baidu download client, because the file is 1.48 GB. The file itsself is a .rar archive, which is password protected. I googled the file and found a chinese hisense fans forum. Here a file with the same name was posted. pw was given with 55933
So you need two passwords.
The new rom is only chinese / english and has no gapps.
Joygrams system.img installed fine. GoogleApps workt about two days for me, now it crashed and does not start any more, maybe because of a playstore update. This seems to be common. Maybe this issue can be solved.
Here a google drive linke to the file (makes it easier) https://drive.google.com/open?id=11anmiy8FEQNbVzu9kbS72WKFr-zmHope
Have not got playstore to run again,
flashed the A2 rom again
and use f-droid; uptodown and/or yalp store to install apps.
Thank you
Do you think it is possible to install " 7.0 or CYANOGEN MULTILINGUE " with the support of the " E-INK " screen?
That I cann not tell you. I am no developer, sadly.
I do not know if anyone got TWRP running on this phone. I know, that it is possible to customize TWRP, there are examples on youtube, but I do not know if I am able to do it.
For me it would be interesting to flash gapps. I don´t know if you can do this using qpst.
I hope there is some development for this phone in the future.

the ROM "JOYGRAM" is in English and Chinese!
By against the Playstore works very well you do not turn off your phone!
from the moment you turned off your phone the factory "Google Play Services" !!
Ducout you must be very careful never to crash and do not repel if the application that works with "Google Play Services" (youtube, play store, gmail, etc ...) no longer works!
we are unable to delete the account [email protected] and "conscious"
I think he should root the phone and add Google Play Service and Play Store!
but I do not know how to sit for root on HISENSE!
I would like to find a charitable soul who could help me carry a Rom Stock 6.0 from Google and add on Driver and E-Ink!
or take the ROM of the HISENSE A2PRO 7.0 Nougat and change it for the Hisense A2 because unless I'm wrong there is not much difference between the 2 phones!
PS: "JOYGRAM" recommend this for translation: you may want to set the language in Japan, French etc ...
this language in the Vision-Setting.apk
I tried to edit this file.
but the system does not start, so I stopped.
but some can stay.
1. Copy Vision-Setting.apk to pc
Use decompile with apktool
3. add a new language in the res and translate the language
4. repack the copy in system.img
I wrote system.img with the Linux system mount in the virtual machine.
I can not do perfact system.img because there is no last system.img.

Good evening "OF_Ge_72"
think you can put on google the other version available on fans.hisense because being in France it is impossible for me to download the possible version available on fans.hisense !
because to answer and to Download on Fans.hisense it is necessary to register with a number of Chinese telephone and it is the same for Baidu !
A huge thank you for all

by the way I take advantage of your passage to ask you if you have access to the forum: fans.hisense.com? (because I'm looking to download the version: http://fans.hisense.com/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=123020&highlight=A2+L1261)

Gapps in last version LineageOS

Sorry for my English. I have Xiaomi mi8 with last LineageOS. Into root folder of phone I put zip gapps file. But when I turn my phone to fastboot and than to TWRP, I can not find my zip file with gapps. The structure of folders is different than when phone is connected to PC. Maybe you know what to do with it please?
As far as I remember you can/must select the storage, including sdcard (which I prefer to use).
PS: Ahoi
Phone does not have external storage card extension. No, prostě když ten telefon připojím k počítači, je tam určitá struktura složek. nahraju tam zip. Pak dám fastboot, dostanu se do TWRP a dám install a už tam je úplně jiné složení složek a zip nemůžu najít
oh, actually I know only 3 czech words: ahoi, knedliki and staropramen
anyway, in TWRP you can select the storage (bottom left, i think). (gtranslate: v TWRP si můžete vybrat úložiště (myslím vlevo dole).)
I know I can select the storage. But, it is impossible to find my zip file The structure of folders is diffrent than the structure I can see when phone is connected to PC for file transfer
A) Maybe a fast workaround: Use an USB OTG adapter and plug-in some USB stick with the files?
OR
B) In modern Android, there are several partitions and my guess is, that you have the files on another.
So you could study some search results for "android partition layout" like p.e. https://source.android.com/docs/core/architecture/bootloader/partitions/system-as-root

OK, I installedMindTheGapps-12.1.0-arm64-20220605_112439.zipfrom USB otg adapter. But Gapps are falling. They are in phone, but I can not start them.
Hello guys,
I believe that I faced a similar case.
I am using MI8 pro, and I installed lineageos 20 with mindthegapps for Android 13. The Google services keep stopping.
Then I tried lineageos 19 with mindgapps 12.1 arm64. The same failure is reported.
I am totally confused. I used adb sideload way to install the os image and gapps without interrupt.
Is there any idea in my case?

Today, I tried LiteGapps Nano arm64 13.0 v2.8 official version, based on LineageOS 20. However, it still didn't work on my MI 8 pro. (For the people didn't fimilar with LiteGapps, it's another popular Gapps version, as well. )
But if I only sideload the LineageOS 20, it's perfect running.
So the issue could be related with the compatible of Gapps.

Today i tried a new gapps named BiTGApps, which works fine with LineageOS20. The url of BiTGApps homepage is bitgapps.github.io. The "works fine" means the google login service in setting menu, and google play works fine. There's no more gapps installed which is a minimal setup, i believed.
I used adb sideload way to install bitgapps, even the powershell terminal shows error, but it seems didn't affect the result.
I hope this one would help you, either.
