Hi all!
I want to start a YouTube channel (law lectures) and for obvious reasons that all know here, I'd like to use my LG G4 as camera to shoot it.
Concerning photography and video shooting, LG G4 is still one of the best phone. But concerning sound recording, when it comes to produce, even dedicated cameras' internal microphones are not sufficient. That's why I wanted to know if I could plug an external microphone in the 3,5 mm jack and if a can, the G4's camera app would be able to use it to record the sound (and if yes, mono or stereo recording?).
I don't have any external microphone at home, that's why I can't check it myself...
Thanks for your replies!

I've bitten the bullet and finally purchased a selfie stick. I went with the Anker Bluetooth one as it had really good reviews but it wasn't working properly, Anker confirmed there were compatibility issues with the Nexus 5X so they issued a full refund, I then purchased the Spigen Bluetooth one instead. Build quality wasn't as good but it had exactly the same issue as the Anker one. So I'm now thinking maybe it's the phone or some setting rather than just Anker.
The issue is this: when I use the selfie shutter button for the first time in the app, it will take a photo fine but then the second click it will do some other camera function such as attempting to share the last taken photo or attempting to edit the last taken photo. It seems somewhat random. I'm using my Nexus 5X with the latest Android build version (v6.0.1) and the May 2016 security fixes. I've also tried another 3rd party camera app and it has the same issue although it will bring up some other random function on subsequent presses. If I quit the camera and app go back in again, it will allow me to take a photo again but subsequent photos will go back to a random camera function.
I understand that the stick will simulate the volume button but if I use the physical volume button then the photos get taken completely as expected.
Is there some compatibility issue here or some setting I need for the 5X?
I'm having the same issue. Received a replacement selfie stick from Anker and the second one doesn't work either. Hoping someone will have ideas!
I'm using an AUX selfie stick and it works flawlessly.
no having to deal with the battery either

At first I thought it was the Anker selfie stick but I tried a Spigen one at it was the same issue so I'm thinking it's something specific about the Nexus 5X. Quite annoying really. It's very odd because the physical volume button on the phone works as intended so it's something to do with the way it simulates a volume press. I've tried using the selfie stick on a Nexus 5 and it works flawless on that so definitely an issue with the 5X.

Is this a bluetooth selfie stick and are you using it with the 5X? Got a link to the selfie stick? Can't find it on Amazon.co.uk but it's possible it might not be available here.

Oh right, that's a cable variety. I was wanting the Bluetooth variety. I guess the issue with the Nexus 5X is such that it's gonna affect all Bluetooth selfie sticks. No matter, I'll most likely be switching to the 2016 Nexus phone anyway so only a short term problem.

Indeed. But this phone hasn't start selling yet. We have to wait for a while.
Hopefully, it doesn't take too long.

In Germany one can order the 128 GB Version:
https://eshop.asus.com/de-DE/zenfone-6
It says "delivered within 2 days"
---edit---
In many european countries one can order already - just change the country below.
Gearbest currently have the 6GB / 64GB Version C (most bands) for €495.
This phone has a very promising development community I guess.
Exciting! Keeping an eye on here to see what kind of ROM support comes out. Checks all my needs, headphone jack, NFC, FLAT screen (no stupid curved sides), and rear fingerprint sensor.
Update asus

That's exactly what tempted me. And don't forget the massive 5000mAh battery. Asus really did a great job on that device.
Hopefully Asus can support people with relocking the bootloader too. I've read from reports and articles that it won't allow people to relock the bootloader like how Xiaomi does it. Hopefully people can find a way or Asus will come and give people support for that because people sometimes do wanna go back to the original ROM.

It would be definitely superior the fingerprint sensor on the screen as the s10+, but we'll, reaching perfection is not ez

I have some doubts regarding in-screen fp speed comparing to traditional rear mounted. I don't think that any current in-screen one can beat the rear mounted, and that's a good choice made by Asus.
My wife has Mate 20 Pro, and she doesn't use the fp scanner because it's unreliable and slow. She's using 3d face detection that the phone luckily has, and it's quite fast.
In my opinion, instead of having something half baked, better go with the tested tech.
Nevertheless, the phone ticks some boxes for me that make it more desirable than I thought:
- 5000 mAh battery
- 3.5mm jack
- FM radio
- stereo speakers
- full display & flat
- IPS LCD - and this is I think weighing much much more than most of its other features to me - I love to know that I can use the phone in sunny environments without any worry that it may suffer burn-in, and the screen replacement should be pretty cheap too
- the flip camera - one of the reasons for upgrading
These being said, let's see the development kickin'
I have sold my Huawei P20 Pro and going to opt for this because unlike Huawei development sounds promising for this device. Just waiting to launch in India.

I haven't seen any mention of the DAC/amp included - is there confirmed information regarding these components?
Note, the speakers aren't "stereo" - it's a dual speaker setup with the earpiece apparently barely utilized, and the majority of the sound coming out of the bottom firing speaker.
IPS LCD may not get "burn" per se, but my LG V20 has taught me all about LCD image retention. While not permanent, it's every bit as irritating as burn in. Never take it for granted.

My bad regarding the DAC, I'll edit that post... I am sure I saw somewhere something about that, but I've rechecked the launch video and there's nothing about it, so it means that maybe there is none.
They advertise the speakers as being "stereo". How much of a stereo they are, it's less likely to be noticed from a cell phone. I got your point though.
LCD panels on LG phones were quite bad, I'm not sure why, but that's a fact. I'm having a Le Max2 for the past 3 years with no problems. Mind you, the screen (qHD) costs about 20-30$ to replace, so I'm not talking iPhone grade LCDs. Also the Xperia Z2 that my kid is using is 5 years old and still good as day one. From my personal experience, LCD is the way to go. We have an S6edge+ in the family that is still good after 3 years, but it was really taken care of. It depends...

I don't know about the dual speakers being stereo or not, but the videos I saw, the earpiece did a pretty good job when edited in the AudioWizard

If there is no TWRP, should we patch stock recovery with magisk manager?

Yeah why not if you possess the phone go ahead make a step for the development. Or if you're skilled enough try build a TWRP yourself now that you're able to extract system image. It's not that hard though. I'll get mine in July.
I'm thinking about getting S22 (Exynos).
I have couple of questions:
* Quickcharging - does the device charge with standard QC3 compatible charges, or is it Samsung proprietary?
* How is Samsung with sources for Exynos kernel these days? I still remember Galaxy S2 Exynos fiasco...
Thanks!
It supports Fast("-ish") charging with non-Samsung chargers and fast charging with Samsung's official charger and 3rd-party chargers which have PPS support.
The kernel source is readily available and the one you build isn't broken in some weird way (which was the case with the S9+, if I remember correctly). I can say that they have definitely improved in that aspect.
Although beware, this is something I would have liked to know instead of sadly finding it out on my own:
Third-party cameras won't be able to record in 60FPS (the highest they can go when "forced" is [email protected]). We can thank Samsung for that. Not to mention they are horrendous with Camera 2 API support (important for GCAM ports), resulting in the front camera photos not working (but you can record videos) unless you have the Ultra (they went out of their way not to let the front camera have e.g. proper RAW support and so on).
Besides that, GSIs are readily available and are IMO fine for daily use (there are some bugs like wifi hotspot, wifi direct and with the proximity sensor "not working" - when you enter a call it will blacken the screen but won't wake it up if you move the phone away from your head).
