Hulu and Youtube TV No Longer Work - Pixel C Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

As of a few weeks ago, my Hulu and Youtube TV no longer load videos and I keep getting errors. I tried loading lineageos but no luck. Flashed back to the latest stock rom and still not working. Is anyone else having this issue? Just sucks because I only use this tablet for media consumption.

That's so lame, my wife's ancient iPad still works fine for DRM content. Why brick our gorgeous tablet?

Yes, that was it. Ended up using the Magisk liboemcrypto disabler module. Thanks!

this worked for me as well, hate its lower RES, but glad YTTV is working again

I'm glad there is a "workaround", because I was ready to chuck my pristine/mint pixel in the trash since I only use it for media consumption.
My 6 year old iPad still works though.

On my second Pixel C (I just love this thing) and trying not to install Lineage. Any walkthrough for using Magisk disabler module? I admit I'm a pretty big noob when it comes to Magisk.

Anyone found one that works well after the update? No ads on my phone (rom'd Note2) apps but they are all over the place on the 7!

Try, making sure your SuperSU binary is up to date then clear the adaway's data in settings. Launch the app and download and apply the host file. I had to do this step a couple of times but once it updated without stopping/crashing everything has been working.

I noticed if the screen goes off while AdAway is updating the hosts file, it'll hang and the only way to get it up and running again is force stopping and clearing the app's data, but keep the screen on and you should be okay

Both Adblock Plus and AdAway are working fine for me - I use both, since they use entirely different methods of blocking ads. They never conflict for me, and whatever tiny loss of efficiency exists is a terrific trade for NEVER seeing an ad, anywhere.....ever.
They survived a non-OTA 4.4 upgrade and re-rooting for me. I lost wifi manager and the Xposed framework, but nothing else.
Nexus 7 2013 wifi stock rom, rooted, twrp, SuperSU, etc.
Is it in the play store?

Issues with RR 3/19/17

Using this one: https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-3/development/rom-resurrection-remix-m-t3399960
I followed the instructions exactly, and yes I know how to flash a ROM. I used to have a Nexus 6.
On the latest build there are a few issues:
1. Cannot login to Snapchat (says unavailable, after checking device status)
2. The OTA update menu crashes
3. Cannot remove startup pin, even after removing screen lock. I tried security settings, but the replace encryption password menu also crashes
Other than these it's pretty solid, and good battery.
(only posting here because it wouldn't let me reply to his thread)
1. Snapchat wont let login if your rooted at all
2. I never used ota so dont know
3. Thats weird
Sent from my ONEPLUS A3003 using Tapatalk
Actually I was able to fix all of these by using the official builds: https://forum.xda-developers.com/on...pment/rom-kernel-resurrectionremix-n-t3524715
EDIT: All except Snapchat, which I fixed by unrooting, logging in, and re-rooting. It only seems to check for root when you log in, so once you're in its good. However if you log out you have to go back through these steps.

I know a ton of people use titanium backup, but I honestly just can't even get past the design of the app. I hated holo when it came out, and hate it even more now that material is here. But it honestly is no real issue to me to log back in that way, 5 minutes tops.

I'm not quite sure how this is the "old way", its more of the manual way. But, to each their own. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Just curious, how many of you with unlocked phones are planning on rooting? Personally I think I'm going to run stock Android although I will root the phone so that I can get titanium, and arise Sound Mod
Yes. Root mostly for hosts based ad blocking. Hopefully Pure Nexus and ElementalX will show up as well.

I keep asking myself....seems to be a PITA sometimes with little gain. Finally got Magisk fixed on XL after fiddling with flash-all and slots and boot loops. Should have a mechanism here to actually take OTA like normal people!
My reasons for root:
1. Adblock. I lost it for a week and it drive me crazy!!! Must have. BUT what about rootless options out there. I haven't tried any. How do they compare?
2. Custom ROM. Stock is fine these days. Sure a few tweaks here and there would be nice, but not worth the effort.
3. Custom kernel. Same as above. Getting 6.5 hrs SOT on XL. What is there to gain?
4. Titanium BU. Works great for years. But stock system is getting pretty good now...it actually remembers login credentials for apps! Pretty awesome. Just tweak a few settings and good to go.
5. Squeeze. Had a brief stint with U11. Loved it. The devs had apps and a kernel to use it for tons of cool stuff. Long squeeze for flashlight? Double squeeze? Lots of options there.
I probably shouldn't root...waste lots of time. But I will?. Probably...

AdGuard is fantastic. Quality's better, but at a slight hit to battery.
Always root, just because.
I normally keep stock for about a week or so when I get a new Pixel/Nexus device. On the OG pixel I only rooted for ad blocking and substratum thenes. The rest did what I wanted it to do. I'll likely keep stock and rooted unless I find a rom that catches my eye

Root? What's that?...Kidding, you know it.
TiB, ROM/Kernel, Substratum, Viper4Arise/MagnumOpus, AdAway, Greenify, Magisk. I can go for more but you get the idea.
The only thing I root for nowadays is AdAway but I literally cannot stand using a phone without ad blocking. It's awful.

what about adclear?
using it now on Galaxy s8+...sold my pixel xl , waiting for pixel 2.
it's doing great, blocking almost any ad, no root needed

How to block ads?

Hey all. Noob question. I'm rooted with the latest Magisk + app (14.5 / 5.4....3?). I have a few modules installed, nothing much. There's a module called unified hosts adblock, but it requires doing some configuring in terminal that I'm not sure how to do to be honest.
Are you guys using this for ad blocking or another method?
I always use ADAway, just check systemless hosts option in Magisk Manager under settings first...

I'm using Adguard and I'm impressed by the result!
So no need for root for the moment especially with the absence of custom ROMs...
I also use AdGuard. It worked for me very well even when I was not rooted. It just has a key at the top of the screen because it routes all your data through a local VPN it creates on your device. When you give it SU access. The results are just as good if not better, minus the annoying key icon. You can use the free version. But I believe that my lifetime license is well worth it. They are an extremely transparent company when it comes to their software. They take prIvacy very seriously. I sound like I am advertising for them, but it really is a very simple easy to use application.
Thanks all! I installed AdAway last night after reading the XDA thread on it. I haven't done any testing on it yet. I'll also keep AdGuard in mind for the future. I appreciate the advice!

Have you noticed any irregularities with adguard lately? I've uninstalled and went back to the July build because it was destroying my battery (30% usage over the day) and used about 50 gb of data over wifi according to the data usage manager. I've only had the old build for a day so I can't quite tell if it made it better. I just wanted to know if anyone has also had issues. Kinda makes me just want to root and be done with it.

I used to use Adaway then swapped to unified hosts magisk module.

Done.

What are your thoughts on which one is better? I have always been curious about the unified hosts module, although AdAway works so well it's hard to justify switching from it

It was just easier to use the magisk module when I got the new device.
They both do the same job essentially.
I'm not super clear on the root for this phone, it seems a little different from all my other Android phones. In the winter I like to watch Netflix from a treadmill, so I'm concerned about Netflix continuing to work. I have to get rid of these ads though and have always used Adaway. By using Magisk, will my Netflix continue to work?
Adaway
I use Blokada which is featured here on XDA. Works pretty well.

If you're worried, in Magisk just go into "Magisk Hide", and tick Netflix so it hides root.

Idk what magisk is but vanced works w/o it i used it on my s10+ since day one and now am using it on the N10+ with no issue. All you need to do is download microG/YouTube Vanced. The newest version for Vanced atm is 14.21.54 and for microG is 14.21.54 also.
Vanced just pops up a notification saying it has crashed all the time even though the app is clearly running but all I can do is quit out.
I am using the Exinox version here in the UK if that makes any difference.
Going to try and disable Chrome.
Didn't note come with free for some time YouTube premium?

Fascinating, do I need to root to do this?
There are several websites that claim to be the official Vanced sites. Only download from their XDA theard or this site -
https://vanced.app/
I use the last non root version (+ last micro-g) and it's working flawlessly.
Latest non-root, latest micro installed both the other day and keeping an eye on it. Things seems to be going just fine. Noticed it doesn't matter which you installed first or second, once both are installed will just work.
I disabled the full Google play services and noticed that Google apps or Samsung apps doesn't recognize microG but pandora does.
I too got sick at vanced login after installing correct microg. The vanced web page notes that if you get stuck at login just swipe / press back and choose login again.
That worked for me.
