AT&T No service - OnePlus 7T Questions & Answers

Resolved. Quick phone call to carrier. Needed to be activated with a signal.
Did anyone here with AT&T have a hard time getting the phone to activate?
I set the whole thing up over wifi with no Sim and used it for a couple of hours with no issues.
I needed my working phone for work so I didn't insert the Sim. When I got home I popped the Sim in and there was no service.
I tried inputting the apn and settings manually. The service would pop on then turn back off. I reset network settings. Didn't work.
I factory reset. Didn't work.
Of course a series on reboots, insert/eject Sim...
I've needed to do some work to get phone's activated before but this is different. The wifi turns itself off. The mobile data toggles on and off. And it heats up a bit. I tried doing a factory reset with Sim inserted but then when I tried to set it up, it could not connect to wifi with the Sim inserted. Remove it and wifi works again.
Im probably gonna go to AT&T tomorrow but this is weird. The phone is brand new.
Just thought I'd put it out there. Thanks

I'm on cricket. Only challenge was to provide cricket with an iphone imei so they could activate volte. I get volte but no wifi calling.
What device are you coming from?

Oneplus 5t. Pretty sure all I had to do was pop in the Sim.

I've had the OnePlus 7t (HD1905) for about 4 months now. Using AT&T and have had no problems at all with it. Popped the sim out of my OP6 and into the OP7t without skipping a beat.

That was typically my experience too. But I even put the sim in my son's unlocked phone and it did the same thing. It was actually a relief because I thought that probably meant it was on the carrier's end. It was. I called tech support and they resolved it quick.

AT&T worked for me, excellent data speeds, and great signal. But at times it would go from 4 bars to absolutely no signal, and lots of dropped calls. After that I went to Verizon, not as good of signal, slower data, but no dropped phone calls or mysterious total loss of signal in an area where it should have been 4 bars.

Ever find out about this? I've been using my OP7T with AT&T for a few weeks and once in awhile have this same issue twice now. Nothing you do restores it, but it finally starts working on it's own.

May sound like an odd question, but since some of you guys are using AT&T, can you share your APN settings?
My OP7T is having some weird issues where the wifi hotspot just stopped passing data to any device connected to it. I've reset the phone, all the devices, and tried every combo of APN settings I can find, but it just won't work. It worked fine for months, then nothing.

[Q]Unlocked T-Mobile Galaxy Note 2 on AT&T

I looked everywhere and cannot even come up a guess to my issue. I have an unlocked T-Mobile Galaxy Note 2, but switched carriers to AT&T and now having weird issues with the phone. I changed the APN settings, but I still get network drops during phone calls and syncing issues with phone numbers.
The phone will randomly drop a call and not be able to call back for about 5 minutes. I am not a noob and I can usually troubleshoot my own issues. Oh yeah, the phone was working fine on T-Mobile and only started the issues when I put a fresh AT&T sim card in it. It doesn't happen all the time either. I could go a week no problem, then three or four days with issues.
Any suggestions on what I should do?
Thanks a ton

I have two TMobile Note 2s that work just fine on ATT. No dropped calls and data works fine. LTE reception seems a little lacking but other than that it's fine.
Try a new SIM.
How long have you been on AT&T? Post paid or a MVNO?

It's actually my sister who has the phone now. I was using it on T-mobile with no issues. I gave it to her, then it started having these problems. Goes to and she gets a brand new at&t sim, still doesn't fix the issues.

Dropping data on Verizon?

Coming from a moto droid maxx and liking the native super fast Google experience with Marshmallow.
Phone is dropping data periodically on Verizon and will only pick it back up by changing the preferred network type. Anybody else having this problem? If not, maybe I just have a bad device.
Thanks

I am having the same problem. I posted about it a few days ago. No solution yet unfortunately

No issues here but my house is in a poor reception area. A quick toggle to airplane mode when I get 3g will get me back on to 4g. I'm used to doing that for as long as I can remember, not just this phone
My Nexus 5x on Verizon comes Mon or Tues. I sure as heck hope it doesn't do that. That would be a major problem, as I'm finally getting a real Nexus on Verizon to get away from buggy aosp/cm roms for Samsungs on Verizon.
I just saw this thread. The same exact thing is happening to me.
Is there any negative to having the preferred network type set to "LTE / CDMA". Technically, that is what Verizon's network is.
Do you still sporadically drop data when your preferred network type is set to LTE / CDMA? I just changed it this morning. So far so good.
I was set to LTE/CDMA when it first happened and was not on WiFi.
Since then, tried different apn settings and Global instead of LTE/CDMA with no luck. Just tried setting cellular data to on, even when connected to WiFi.
Over the past 2 days it has happened 3 times, so frequency isn't that high but definitely an annoyance.

That sounds pretty frequent to me.
Hey, my quoting function isn't working, from Tapatalk app.
I just stuck my VZW nano SIM in, didn't adjust any of the options, no problems with data drop thus far
Ya I've had my 5x since Tuesday at 11 am. No network problems
No problems here, signal strength is better both at home and work as compared to my prior phone.
Maybe try a new nano sim from Verizon? The corporate stores will give them away for free. (Have seen posts where folks say the customer service line will mail them for free as well.)
Just adding my experience to the thread: my Nexus 5X on Verizon network is struggling daily with maintaining a cellular connection. I have no issues if I'm in an area where you would typically have a strong signal. However, when I'm in the 1 or 2 bar range, I cannot even receive text messages, much less data. The phone REALLY struggles with group texts. I'm going to full reset and see if that helps things.
Noticed that dropping data seems to coincide with incoming MMS messages, specifically group texts.

I am seeing this as well. What text messaging application are you using....

Did a full reset help at all?
Having the same problems. I spoke to a tech at Verizon and they said the SIM card I'm using is being "retired" (their words) and I should go to a retail store to get a replacement. This was after trying to dial their automated smartphone activation number and ending up on the line with a tech. Going today to get a new SIM card and will post the results.
Experienced this with both hangouts and messenger. Hopefully the SIM card resolves it. Keep us posted !

Same issues here even with a new SIM...I also noticed it doesn't go to 3G, its either LTE or nothing? Group messaging is pretty much worthless... Sending phone back and going back to Moto X Pure...had that previous and absolutely no issues
Update: new SIM seems to have fixed the problem with drops. Tested several group MMS and it seems to be OK. Verizon reps were clueless on activating the SIM and took a while to finally give in to my request to just take the card home and activate in my old Moto X. I activated it with a Verizon rep on the phone and then transferred the SIM to the N5X with no issues. Got immediate LTE and was able to do everything as expected.

Is your signal strength any better or worse with the new sim? My nano sim is ancient and wondering if it's one getting retired...
Signal strength is the same and unfortunately the problem came back. It's actually my wife's phone. I bought one for her and one for myself. Mine has been fine on Verizon since I switched from my M8 but she's been having the signal drop problem. The new SIM did not resolve it permanently. I'm requesting a new device from Google today.

LTE Connectivity issues

I have a note 4 from att running 6.0.1. Recently the Internet (mobile not WiFi) would start cutting out and completely losing service for no reason every 5 minutes or so. Very agitating if I'm trying to watch a video or do anything on the internet, really. Anyways, I am using Cricket Wireless, which is a subsidiary of ATT. I tried out an ATT sim card as well and the issue is still present. I factory reset my phone and it's still doing it. However, if I ender the developers code into the dialer and brought up mobile network information, I could set the phone to use GSM/CDMA only (no LTE) and the issue went away completely. But now, I have much slower speeds than if I were to be using LTE which kinda sucks. Does anyone know a way to fix this?

calls keep going in and out despite good coverage

Hello just switched back to t mobile and have a question..have an unlock galaxy s8+ with t mobile firmware and when doing a phone call, myself , as well as the person I'm speaking with, the volume goes in and out despite the fact I have more then adequate service(-100dbm b4). Never drop a call just lose volume..Called t mobile and they have no idea. If I use WiFi calling I don't have the issue. Don't have option to turn off volte being in mostly band 12 only areas so I wouldn't be able to receive calls. Hard having a conversation when you miss seconds at a time of the conversation..tried reflashing firmware with odin as well as a factory reset. Do notice this phone switches between b4 and b12 really frequently despite the fact it isn't needed at my house as both have fine coverage and b4 rarely goes under -105dbm... Any advice?

Is your sim card new? If not I'd start with replacing that. What apn settings are you using? I believe your phone should drop to HSPA+ on a phone call if you have volte off , well mine does anyways and I'm on similar bands but I have ATT as a carrier.

If I turn volte off I wouldn't be able to receive calls, majority of my area is lte only. Just got a sim 1 week ago when I switched back over to t mobile..i noticed that It happens while phone is changing between band 4 and band 12 which it does at the very least once every minute so I disabled band 4 and it seems to not do it now which stinks but it's not a deal breaker as phone still works fine and data speeds are still high enough that it's not a problem just weird

LTE only, I find that hard to believe as most lower grade and mid grade phones don't even have the option for volte but whatever, glad ya got it partially figured out. I would try flashing different basebands aka radio aka modem aka CP lol and see of that fixes the issue.

If I remember correctly any baseband will work except Verizon ones as they are only one that blocks band 12 right? Hopefully find some odin flashable modems online so I don't have to spend forever downloading whole package off Sam mobile. I grabbed latest 955u1 t mobile firmware when I switched from Verizon last week bc phone wouldn't work or update from coming from Verizon for some odd reason
They're all literally the same CP/modem for the u and u1 models, so when changing modems you actually have to flash different build numbers not just different carriers modems with the same build number cause they're all the same lol, aka multi-csc
It's definitely when the phone changes bands, which I still don't get why it's so constant. Played around again tonight and would switch from -100dbm band 4, call would cut out as I switched to -92dbm band 12 then seconds later back to b4 to where it would cut out again. Fix for me is to keep band 4 disabled but then when I go to city I'm screwed bc parts don't have b12 only b4 and I have to go into dialer and re enable it..it. shouldn't cut out, my pixel never had this issue or nexus 6. Idk what to do about this

AT&T tech support said my OP7T not LTE Compatible

It's HD1907 T-MOBILE. What I need is HD1905. He sent me the wrong one.
I only realized a few hours ago I had no mobile data. I had got calls and texts to work this morning.
After spending 45 minutes on the phone with AT&T they concluded my phone is not recognized as LTE compatible. WTF? It's not even connecting to 3g.lb
I've been buying unlocked phones for years. My last phone was OP5T. I've never experienced anything like this.
I'll probably take it to the corporate store tomorrow but doubt it'll help. Has anyone had problems with AT&T and this phone?

I'll bet if you look in the settings your model is HD1905 or the global model, not sure the number.
Actually if you could take a look for me and post back here that'd be good. It most likely won't make a difference but I'm curious.

Yes I have the HD1905, but you can totally forget about vowifi with any provider except for T-Mobile. I tried them all, I even had a tech from VZW work diligently to try and get vowifi working. I told him to try and add my IMEI to the approved list, and that did not work either. As far as AT&T, they did not give me the time of day, they just told me I needed and AT&T device, period.

You mean Verizon when you say VZW?
I'm just confused as to how he would be able to add it to the list of approved devices.
Anyway it's BS. If the carrier supports the phone, and the phone is capable of VOLT!/WIFI CALLING, it should work.

Yes Verizon. I have heard hear many times on this site, that phones are blocked from wifi calling by the IMEI, I or they could be wrong.
Vowifi works on the unlocked Pixel, but are they going to butt heads with Google? Volte works fine, I got a network extender, and I can use google voice to make calls over wifi if I really need to.
If vowifi is a must, get an approved phone, that is all you can do.

I worked at AT&T until a few months ago. I can tell you confidently that their tech support is a bunch of dummies. Employees have their own tech support line to call and that one is just as bad. They would routinely tell customers they needed to go to a store to have something done. Then they'd get to the store to find out we literally cannot do that at the store. Stuff like that was super common. One of them even bet me $1,000 that iPhones DON'T reboot when they update, which we all know is all the way wrong.
I halfway think support tells people that stuff on purpose to try to get them to buy something from AT&T. God, I could rant about that place for hours lol

Maybe you can answer this for me. Just because a T-MOBILE locked phone is able to make calls and texts on AT&T, does that automatically mean it should be able to connect to mobile data?
I was able to get it to make calls after a refresh signal was sent out, but it could not connect to mobile data . My sim is fine. I even popped it my son's Pixel 3a and LTE started immediately.
The seller is saying the fact that it was able to make calls means it is able to connect to mobile data. And I should take it to AT&T before returning it. I don't think he's scamming. He says he has the same phone on AT&T. And he's sold Hundreds of them. That kinda checks out based on reviews and some of those people do report it works with AT&T.
These phones are hd1907 T-Mobile but supposedly OnePlus unlocks them before sending them out to some sellers. I sort of believe the guy but is it true? If it were locked to T-Mobile could I get it to make phone calls?
Obviously I'm not talking about a hack. Because I thought locked was locked. Is it possible for a locked T-Mobile phone to make calls on the AT&T network?
Also I got AT&T to make it work but once I removed the sim/reinsert it, the thing displays weird behavior. Wifi goes in and out. It forgets the apn settings that were set prior.

I agree, ATT was the most horrible experience I ever had. Tracfone may have even had a better customer support.
Verizon CDMA service may be antiquated, but their customer service and tech support is 2nd to none.

It should have no trouble using data BUT you'll have to change the phone's APN settings to match your carrier before you can. You can google it and find them. It's not hard at all to change. Somewhere under the "network" settings.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but as I've understood it the phone will keep trying to access the previous carrier's data network, which is why you didn't have data. But as said above the APN settings should fix that.

If I told you the whole story, which started on Friday morning and in the end involved 7 AT&T employees, 6 on the phone and 1 in the store, it'd probably be removed because it's spam. Too long of a story.
But in the end it didn't get to connect to mobile data..at least not consistently. I took it to the store. The guy removed the Sim reset it, turned it off and boom! - LTE, calls and texts. His theory was it takes a little while for it to unlock and get set so when I tried it the other night it wasn't working.
I was happy because it literally took 5 minutes. I ran some errands and was out for like another 2 hours. Everything was working. Some point between the store and my driveway, the signal was gone. I never got it back. Of course I tried reset, remove Sim, reboot, change apn settings.
I called AT&T... the first woman didn't even know what CDMA and GSM was. I politely got her to transfer me to the guy who 'knows his stuff'. He got it to make calls again, but in the end concluded this device can't work on this network. I didn't wanna argue anymore. He had a BS answer for everything including 'If it doesn't work, why DID it work just a half hour ago?'
He said I could try getting a new sim. They have no idea. My son's sim won't work on this phone but pop it in my old phone and it works. And my sim works in his phone. It's not the sim. I know it.

I took it back to AT&T yesterday. There was someone in front of me so I sat down, removed the sim from my working phone, popped it in the op7t... instant lte, calls & texts. The same thing happened the day before I went to at&t. It worked perfectly well there in the store and even 2 towns away but not m my neighborhood which DOES connect to LTE, has for years on every phone we've had.
The tech (if you can really call him that) updated the sim. That got it done. I've had a working phone for 24 hours. BUT no LTE. It only connects to H+.
I haven't had time to call or go back to the store, but I'm hoping it's an easy fix. This has been the weirdest week I've ever had dealing with a phone. I've learned that AT&T doesn't know what they're doing. I still can't believe I needed to explain what GSM and CDMA was to one of the people on the call.
I'm gonna try a few things tonight after work.

Thanks for sharing, but I've never really needed to mess around with the settings as far as mobile data goes. It either works out of the box, or at most I'll need to put the apn in manually on some custom roms, but even that's rare.
How does the info you provided apply to my problem. I know the phone can connect to lte. It was connecting briefly on Monday afternoon and while I was at At&T yesterday, it connected before they updated the sim.
Is there something I can do with this? It's a sincere question. I'm not sure if I can apply it somehow. Thanks

I think his point was to show that the OP7T does in fact work on all AT&T bands. Normally you don't need to do anything with this if the SIM is provisioned correctly.
What are the chances that you are on the edge of the local AT&T LTE signal so it drops to H+ because that's a stronger connection? At the AT&T store the LTE signal is stronger so the phone is favoring that one. Some phones are more sensitive to signals than others (or more aggressive at switching to a stronger band).
Try using a program like "LTE Discovery" and see what bands you actually are connecting to. It can also let you know what is going on in your area with tower location.

I'll try that. Thanks.
That's what I said but the guy at the store said it's really not a stronger signal at the store. Plus I know I can get LTE at my house and in the store because all our other phones connect, even this one, briefly at the at&t store.
The seller have me a code to input into the dialer but I'm waiting for tomorrow to put it in. It's my day off. If something goes wrong it won't be a huge deal. I will look into what you sent at some point though.

Your posts are bouncing between VoLTE & VoWiFi.
LTE bands and VoLTE work fine on Verizon's network.
Verizon allows VoWiFi on the OP 8's that they sell. They will not activate VoWiFi on the OP 7 series, the claim is that the phone did not go through their security testing. IIRC VZW doesn't allow VoWiFi on any outside phone.
