Am I the only one facing this? I just got my G3 back from repair and its filled with bloat. I factory reset twice but it always does this. Some kind of update service brutally installs over 100 bloatware apps without asking! Even with no wifi or data enabled it still installs this.
Is this normal? Does anyone else have this kind of bloat on their device?

It's not normal. Either your gf visited some rogue site and downloaded crap or the repair guy played with the phone and visited some site and downloaded malware. Run Lookout or Bit defender to see what malware you got.

Wow. The weird part is that most of those unwanted apps are also in LG's updater service in the about phone settings. I ran Bit Defender and it showed two malicious apps, but I couldn't delete them?
Anyway, during repairs the phone has had it's motherboard swapped (even got a new imei number). I think they swapped in a motherboard of a used infected device.
If that's true I'm really mad. I did the right thing and brought the phone back to my retailer and it got repaired under warranty.
But apparently we got f*cked over. Should I flash a new stock firmware? Or should I contact the retailer first?

Get rooted, then convert bloats to normal apps using Titanium Backup, then uninstall them.
This is the most simple way to get rid of them.
Warning: be careful, I'd better disable/freeze apps you're not sure are bloats before uninstalling, because they may be important to the system itself (like LG update service).

But these bloats aren't regular bloatware. They are more like malware. Isn't it absurd that if I send a phone over to get a boardswap it's swapped for a board loaded with junk like this?
This makes me wonder what kind of origin this "new" board has. The phone also feels slower and laggier than before. I'm not happy with how the phone has been repaired. Do I have any rights?

You can return it and pretend it's not your phone, because it has software difference, and demand to return it to the original/factory state or replace it with the new sealed one. The only way service centre have a right to touch your data - is solving the software problems. And the only way they may do it – return the phone to the original/factory state. As an additional service they may provide you a backup service for your data. But for sure they are not allowed to install anything not included in the factory ROM image without your handwritten permission.
As for me I am always doing full wipe before and after any occasion my phone going to a stranger hands.

I did wipe before and after. I even flashed my country's .KDZ just now. Still there's malicious apps installing right after turning it on the first time after wiping. I even searched all of the root partition of the phone for any of those apps with Root Explorer with no results. Weird as f*ck.
I just contacted my retailer, they agree it's ridiculous aswell and I'm going to send it back monday for replacement again... I probably got handed an infected motherboard. Just hope they're not gonna f*ck me over again.

I've faced similar problem before. When I flashed international v10n rom kdz, some apps from different country origins and games came preloaded as I run the phone. My LG G3 was Vodafone Germany model, and somehow it installed vodafone preloaded apps from all over the World I believe. There is a hidden .op folder in our devices 'system/data/.op' which is not deleted even after flashing. I rooted the phone and deleted the apk files in vodafone folder, made a factory reset, got rid of the bloatware forever.

Thanks for the insight. It now makes some more sense to me what's happened to the phone.
For those that like to know, here's my theory:
The LG had a broken sim reader so I sent it over to repairs and it's motherboard got swapped. But it didn't get swapped with a factory brand new one, it got swapped with a refurbished one. The previous owner of said board had flashed a polish or whatever firmware that inserted a whole bunch of bloat. Then later on he or the repair company flashed back the original firmware while of course leaving the bloatware in it's place since it's not wiped. Finally I receive the phone back, and after turning it on having to deal with a sh*tload of polish bloat.
As I've stated in my first post, I really don't want to root since it's my gf's phone, and besides that, since its not my fault all this junk is on the phone I find it not my responsibility to fix other peoples weird endeavors. A phone getting repaired should return properly working.
Bottom line, I'll probably end up sending it over again regardless of knowing what happened and demand a new board.
Still, I think it's downright ridiculous not only that I get a refurbished motherboard for a brand new device of 10 days old that has a manufacturing defect, but also that said board is loaded with junk and not properly tested. I'm really disappointed in today's standards.

For every Nexus device I purchase, it's standard practice to unlock it before completely setting everything up. So right after opening it, I'll do a quick setup and use a couple apps to check for things like dead pixels or lightbleed. Then, if everything checks out, I'll unlock the bootloader and flash the latest factory image to make sure I'm getting a fresh start from scratch. I've never seen a reason NOT to unlock the bootloader first. It helps get you out of trouble if something were to go awry on the software side. I've never encountered an issue that flashing a factory image couldn't fix.
While I can't attest to anything regarding the original batches, I can tell you the device I received with the dev discount has been perfect. No issues so far after using it for 2 weeks. I believe it was manufactured in January 2016 if the serial number naming scheme is the same as other Nexus devices.
If you have a dead HDD, nothing can fix it other than replacing it. I'm not sure if that's a software or hardware error, if it's software, reformatting the drive may help, if it's hardware, you're obviously screwed.

I've bought lots of nexii devices ,say, Gnex, nexus 7 , nexus 6 and 6P. I used to do a lot of flashing just like you do, the first thing I did was unlocked the BL and flashed a new ROM, kernel and maybe did some tweaking. But I haven't messed with my 6P cause I don't wanna unlock the BL for security reason. With an unlocked bootloader, just think about it, if you lose your phone, anyone can do whatever they want. with it That's not cool at all. So I'd rather keep it the way it is.

I think the problem mentioned should be a software issue. As in those two threads , they are not able to boot up the device simply by factory resetting it. And they failed to flash the factory image to the bricked device since it's locked.

While this is definitely true, your average cellphone thief is about as tech savvy as a wet piece of leather hahaha I've had this concern myself but then realized that maybe 2% of Android owners know how to get to the recovery, hell most reps at cell phone stores don't even know how to do it, even the ones that are "techs"!. When I had my S4 rooted and stupidly let it slip that the phone was rooted, next time I came in the rep looked over the phone and called out a tech who looked at the phone for 30 seconds then said "do you know how to get to the recovery on this???". A simple pin/password/pattern lock will thwart about 90% of phone thieves out there from getting access to your data, they're most likely just going to wipe it anyway. They couldn't care less about your data, they can't sell or use that as easily as they can the device itself.

Well, usually thieves might just wipe everything. But still, there are risks. There are certain ways to go around the locked screen if you got a unlcoked BL and rooted phone. I've got all my photos( No nude pics ) stored on Google, and also all my contacts, whom wouldn't be happy to share their information with a thief, and some notes, payment apps as well as some important emails. There's too much going on and I don't wanna take risks. Also, if my phone got stolen, I'll have make sure the SOB got a brick ,nothing more. Sure they can tear it apart and sell some parts of it, but they don't get a phone.

Hi All,
Just found that after the phone appeared to be overheating substantially, my H818N just died and wouldn't restart.
Tried everything, but nothing worked.
Took it to the local LG workshop here in Mumbai, India - where the tech pronounced the motherboard dead and that it would be impossible to recover the data.
Further, they would not give me back my motherboard (with chip/ROM), unless I paid them the full price in cash for it.
I paid up in order to secure my personal data, and researched solutions.
Apparently someone in Russia says it would be possible to recover the image.
Any feedback on this and possibilities - as I would have to spend a bomb on shipping it out with the restrictions implemented here in India? (I could mail it from a European location if I fly out on a trip, but have nothing planned)

There was warranty on the phone - it was only 9-10 months old.
They replaced the motherboard for free.
As stated, they would not return the old motherboard if they were replacing it under warranty - as it would have to be returned into their system for inventory purposes, apparently.
And that is why I had to pay LG India INR 24,000/- = USD 363.64 to keep my old one.

How many days did you try before giving it in.
If you had a second chance what you have done differently regarding data storage so as not to end up in this situation.

Tried to turn it on using all different buttons depressed.
Tried to freeze the phone and then turn on.
Nothing worked.
I would rather ask here what software/apps we could use in order to backup *everything* in case this happened again - as apparently the backup apps appear to be quite fragmented and only do a few things.

Seems device is out of warranty . And yes there are solutions to recover the data but they are pretty hectic to perform. You can remove eMMC from the device and mount it another device which should be compatible with eMMC . And you are good to go. 2-3 days ago XDA published a article and told us that a guy successfully implemented 64 GB eMMC on his 16 GB nexus 5. the process is real hard and need particular skills . But if your data is that precious then you can try. And yes always backup your data ..always

I paid the money to hold on to the old motherboard, as they wanted it back if they would replace it under warranty.

In the days when root was possible you could image the entire storage. Without root you can't do that.
App data stays in app folders some backup programs will take them others wont.
So the ext microsd card is the place to store downloads and everything camera related. From there you can back up locally or to the cloud.
Am really surprised this had happened to you as i always champion expandable storage for just this sort of eventuality against non expandable storage phones
There is another question to be asked here. Would you say your device went into a bootloop.
Were there any signs of flaky behaviour before this.
usually if a phone is getting hot best to shut it off and try after. it seems it got hot enough to affect some solder connections inside. The weather is quite hot these days so operating for long periods under elevated temperatures isn't a good idea.

Thanks - that opened my eyes for another option - but not sure if it's possible to get done (replacing the eMMC) in India...
Also, whether this would even work with the new motherboard? What about hardware IDs/linking to the previous software/system/OS?

Yes, it was getting quite hot.
(Was working Tinder heavy-duty - but now doing the same on my LG G3 doesn't affect that phone whatsoever! )

Hi all. I am baffled as to what happened to my phone. It has no mods and is running stock android 11. It was absolutely fine, not having any issues at all, and I realized I hadn't rebooted it in a few weeks. So, I did a plain old restart.
And it died.
It won't do anything no matter how long I hold the power button down. The battery is fully charged.
Tried to get to the recovery screen by holding down volume up and power, which did nothing. Then I tried vol down and power and got a screen I've not seen before: SS RDX Watchdog Reset.
And here I am stuck. I plugged in a usb cable to my laptop and now there's a device connected on my laptop called msm_upload which I can only see from the windows Bluetooth and other devices panel.
I have no idea what to do from here and I'm desperate.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

yes. i thought if it is software issue than it might be timing issues with pressing correct keys combo. possibly wishful thinking. i assume you've seen one other thread on xda with similar issue with no direct resolution. Still try smart switch

I've never used smart switch before. If my pc doesn't see the phone, how would that work? My phone doesn't show up in my laptop except as a Bluetooth device called msm_upload that I can't figure out how to interact with? I guess I'll need to install smart switch on the laptop and hopefully it will see the device?

Sort of sounds like it's bricked.
Play with new firmware/software, win new prizes. I could go on...
You need to navigate to the boot menu somehow. Keep playing with the buttons; sequence and ***timing*** is everything.
If you can drain the battery until it auto shutdown that might get it... much latter.
Disconnect the battery and force a hard reboot.
Otherwise it's repair shop time.

You need to navigate to the boot menu somehow. Keep playing with the buttons; sequence and ***timing*** is everything.
If you can drain the battery until it auto shutdown that might get it... much latter.
Disconnect the battery and force a hard reboot.
Otherwise it's repair shop time.

I went to a repair shop out of desperation. Had to drive over an hour to get to it as I live in the country, and he basically said it's dead. The fun part is, I called my warranty co and of course, they aren't honoring the warranty because "they don't insure phones that cost over $999" which mine did when I got it. But of course, there was nothing that said they didn't cover my phone, which is why I bought their lease/warranty plan.
So, basically, I have a brick that I owe $591 on yet, and they couldn't care less. At this point, I am willing to try anything at all because I have no other options. I already filed a BBB report against them after spending over an hour on the phone with them to no avail.
Any ideas at all would be very helpful at this point.
Also, I CAN still get to that SS RDX Watchdog Reset screen and it will scan an SD card (because I tried it). The problem is, I cannot for my life find a stock Note 10+ ROM anywhere that I can actually download. Wondering if I should just try to throw a custom ROM on it instead? It's obviously not going anywhere otherwise.

There's a stock rom for it, obviously.
If you can degrade to 10, do so.
The boot loader version will dictate if you can or can't.
I'm not experienced enough to advise you on this but that's what might be needed.
Again play with the button sequence/timing and try to get into the boot menu.
Just a slight difference in timing or the wrong sequence and it won't go to the boot menu.
It's not likely but possible the buttons were remapped.
Try taking out the Sim and SD card.
My guess is you can get it to go to the boot menu but until today I never heard of this happening.
A apk timed out because of not rebooting for so long? Don't do that again... at least reboot every couple days.
Malware is another possibility.
Last resort talk/send to Samsung.

I'm having a RIDICULOUS time trying to find a clean copy of stock ROM for my Note. Every single one I've found either ends in a dead link or I download it and it ends up being corrupt. This is no small feat as I live in the middle of nowhere and the only ISP is Hughesnet, which is neither fast, nor unlimited. It literally took me 4 hours to download a 5gb alleged stock ROM only to have it be corrupt.
Isn't there anywhere to get a clean copy of stock??? I see a lot of mods here in XDA, but as far as regular stock SM-N975UI, either I'm totally missing something or there isn't one here.
Can someone please help me find one that is clean? SamMobile's download is limited to 15kbps for non paying members and their copy has been downloading literally since yesterday and is only at 900mb. Living in the country has its perks, but high speed internet isn't one of them. Nothing worse than checking on a download that was running all night to see it say it still has 2 days to go.

You'll need a much faster connection; that slow, that much data, the download has a great chance of being corrupted.
Maybe have a 3rd party download it and send it to you by mail etc. Samsung could... if you could harang them into doing so.

According to the authorized service center I visited yesterday, they don't even have access from Samsung. They are directed to send the phone directly to Samsung, which just floors me. I asked the tech if he could at least flash stock and see if we could get it to load, since I definitely can get to the SD card from Watchdog and it will read it. His reply was nope. I called 2 other repair shops since I was in the city already and got the same story.
Back in the day, rooting Android 4 was easier than this! Do you know of any reputable sites for stock roms? SamMobile is definitely out. And many I've gone to will list my stock, but when you follow the links, the file is no longer available. This feels like a bad X files episode at this point. LOL.

Talk, write to Samsung and lean on them.
You'll probably end up sending it in. Take detailed pictures of the phone before boxing it and as boxing it. Double box it and pack/seal it well. Insure the package!
Fight with Samsung if they try to charge you more than $50. Expect trouble... Samsung's tech support is one of the worst on this planet.

I have similar problem. N975u1 stuck in SS Rdx unknown mode. No way to gt to recovery or bootloader

File a complaint with your state attorney general's office.
Against the warranty company and especially the carrier.
Lean on the carrier, verbal breach of contract because the warranty company refused to repair it.
I'd stiff the carrier out of principle. It's likely they wouldn't bother to take it to small claims court.
Before you do that though lean on them like a cheap suit, call, call, call. Talk to their retainment group. Don't give them a moments peace. One time I called Verizon close to 30 times in a week before they finally issues a full credit over a Direct TV breach of contract. If I was you I be seeing red...
Got an ex review Galaxy fold 4 which had not been wiped before I was given it. I factory resetted it, but it needs the gmail and gmail password from the previous owner... is there any way to byoass this or will it simply be easier to chase up the previous owner?

first who knows how you have got the device? You really new owner or what someone trying to hack into hte device. Kindly reach out the old owner. or do your own research.
Let's be reasonable. Telling us you need the account info from the previous owner is a HUGE red flag. That means is was never factory reset when it was...sold/given/stolen to/by...you. So do understand we are not a community that will assist anyone with a stolen device.
That said, methuselah is correct. You should research the issue instead of asking for help via a vague post. You COULD take it to your carrier's store and have them assist you. Honestly, that's the best route. Take the proof of purchase with you to show it's not stolen.

That's FRP (factory reset protection). Background: Let's pretend that your mobile device got stolen. The first thing a thief will do is to reset the phone, because without knowing the correct display pattern the device is pretty useless (and it's very hard to sold in that state ). Since the settings menu is also unreachable with a locked display the thief is forced to reset the phone via recovery mode. This mode must be always accessible by pressing the right key combo in case you are in serious trouble with an unbootable device. Doing it that way, the following setup of the device requires a login to the last active Google account to verify the owner.
This verification step is also required if you do a factory reset in your settings menu. But here the verification is done before you delete everything by entering your display pattern. This will disable FRP for the following reset because you have then verified that this device is yours.
As a reviewer of the phone, you must have contact to a person of Samsung's local PR firm. Talk to her/him and get a new one.

Sharing frustration of all ends. Got a refurbished Sammy phone on Amazon, it arrived with someone's pwd on it. I bought it as a backup phone for the office so we discovered it outside the 90 days warranty and could not have sent back. I have the receipt, it is AMAZON selling it, and I have a brick on my desk. Nice, isn't it?

If the phone arrived like that from Amazon, return to Amazon ASAP
