I have soft-bricked my phone by trying to install a different kernel and ROM on my Pro Duos B5512.
Flashing only the kernel in the thread by championswimmer didn’t work because of a md5 mismatch.
This guide should also work with other samsung models if you find the right firmware (search on http://www.mod2xtreme.com/ or http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1656825)

There I downloaded the latest firmware for Europe. Using Odin3 v1.85 I flashed successful and my phone is back up and running!
Here is a step by step:
1. Download and install KIES by Samsung (Odin needs these drivers to work)
2. Download odin3 1.85 (search on xda)
3. Download a firmware pack on mod2extreme
4. Open Odin and put the phone into download mode (volume down+Home+power, then select volume up to enter download mode)
5. Wait for your computer the finish the automatic driver program and your computer should recognize your phone
6. Now select the following files in ODIN (make shure auto reboot and F. reset time is selected)
-> PIT is the .pit file in the firmware map, the box in ODIN to Re-partition should be automatically checked now (if there isn't a pit file then this remains empty)
-> BOOTLOADER, select the file which has BOOT in the file name
-> PDA, select the file which contains PDA in the file name
-> PHONE, select here the file which has MODEM in the file name
-> CSC, select the file which has CSC in the file name
Info:For Save Use Do Not Use Boot loader and pit file. Do this only if everything else failed!
When everything is set-up click start and keep your fingers crossed! When everything goes according to plan your phone should restart, copy some files to system and the reboot again. Your phone is back to life! (boot could take 2-3 min)
Hope you fix your phone!

Nice explanation..
1. Suggestion..
Add "[GUIDE]" to your thread name.. It helps to identify what it is in mobile xda app.. and change mobile name to galaxy y variants.. As i suppose your guide covers both y duos and y phones... And lastly add link to manoranjan2050's thread (link)who is doing great work of providing all latest stock firmware updates to both duos of galaxy y.. So anyway good info..
hit thanks button! If above post helps you..

Thaks for the great guide. In Nitubhaskar's compact kernel thread for our device he gave advice on how to flash stock kernel and recover from soft brick in case you brick phone while flashing custom kernel. Can you add some of that info here and credit the appropriate persons? It would be great to have all relevant soft brick info for our device. Yor thread is dedicated to recovering from soft brick and so would be the best place to have all the facts in one piece

Hi, I have not used odin before, but my phone (B5512 galaxy y pro duos)
has a firmware from another country and I want to have my own
(because then I can write in my language). I have downloaded a file which
has "modem"," csc" and "pda" files only and it's the firmware other people
from my country have (B5512XXLF2) . I think my phone has Polish firmware (B5512XXLL1)
while I want the Greek one. Also, these two types seem the same
(the only difference in the code is the year month and version)
but one has greek keyboard and the other doesn't, what's the deal with that?
Will this method work for me? If not can I recover my phone?
I have not done this before and the phone is less than a month old and I am scared!
Thank you.
Recovery via odin should be possible. As for flashing Greek firmware I recommend you talk to Deadly or another expert via PM before proceeding.

Hey Guys,
Ive got a SM-T805Y (Galaxy Tab S 10.5 LTE in Australia on the Telstra Network)
So a while ago I started to play around with trying to remove touchwiz, but realised there was no good roms for this device, so I put it aside without a ROM.
I'm now trying to get it going with any ROM, but I've become stuck with even trying to flash a new recovery.
When the device turns on, it immediately boots to 'Downloading' but without the odin detail in the top left. Can not boot to recovery, or even a splash logo for Samsung.
By holding down Power+Home+Volume Down, I can get it to boot to normal Odin mode.
From there, if I try to flash a recovery or ROM, it says no PIT file found.
I've tried also flashing a PIT file, the generic SM-T805 one, but comes up with the error of Operation Failed, or some variation depending if I flash ROM+PIT, RECOVERY+PIT, or just PIT.
Is there a more specific PIT for the SM-T805Y?
Any ideas? Tried multiple computers and USB Cords.
Have removed the battery for 30mins +
Please post a screen shot of odin and which firmware you are attempting to flash.
Cant post Links to Imgur, but the Imgur slash gallery slash 4tySi contains the images.
Tried multiple ROMs, and the Only PIT file I could find was just a SM-T805 one, which didn't specify if it was a 'Y' version.

I am creating this guide to convert convert the G930VL to G930V since i cant find a guide for android 7.0 and The G930VL firmware is no ware to be found. I have been a long time member and have flashed many roms on phones and normaly dont find a need to post but since i could not find much on the internet i decided to make a step by step guide.
I take no credit for creating any of the tools used in this guide as i was not the creator. I have only figured out the way to get the G930V firmware on to the phone.
I am not responsible for any bricked devices
You must have usb drivers installed
Tools:
SamFirm V0.3.6 (as of writing) https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-s/general/tool-samfirm-samsung-firmware-t2988647

Thanks, your guide help me flash my phone and everything works except for sending text messages (and since smsc isn't working my voicemail doesn't either). Did you have this issue as well? My smsc is in the messaging app but it doesn't work. Receiving texts, Sending/receiving MMS, calls, 4g data all work.

Double check your apn settings. Sometimes they get muddled. Also, my experience with this is that you have to make a call to get texts to work. I jest updated to oreo using jkruse post and it works much better than nougat. My apn was wrong and just changing the name to TRACFONE.VZWENTP fixed everything

Hi can you please tell me if this guide will work to flash a Verizon s7 that is on TMobile nougat back to Verizon nougat so I can update to Oreo that k you
So my friend tried rooting his phone (VL model) and it's bricked. It has a boot loop with the installing system firmware screen. But I can boot into Odin download mode. I tried using this method and picking both CSC and home CSC. On the CSC one it will fail at emmc_appsboot.mbn.lz4 after the "single download" line.
The Home CSC, it will reboot after the RQT_CLOSE and RES OK and says pass for for set partitions, but when it reboots it goes to the installing system firmware bootloop
Any suggestions? He can't afford a new phone. And I'd love to help him fix it!
I have a copy of the SM-G930VL firmware.

I think i bricked my SM-G930VL from straight talk, it boots up but it immediately reboots after not even 10 seconds of being booted up. i think it was because i rooted and google apps mostly did not load, they had a loading circle but it never loaded so i decided i would try and go into recovery mode and clear/wipe the cache partition. im not quite sure if thats why i cant fully boot past the lockscreen, i tried a factory reset after attempting to boot into safe mode several times but it continues to reboot after the starting android screen, wont even let me setup the phone now.. its very frustrating and if the stock firmware will work, do you still have it? or would i need to try something else?
This method bricked my Straight Talk S7 by leaving it in a recovery loop. I was able to get it into download mode, then installing SM-G930VL Tracfone firmware with Android 6.0 using Odin PrinceComsy (no PIT file). Then, once it was working, I did official software updates through system update to get it up to Android 7.0. I originally had Android 8.0 before brick, but it is still doing updates after every install, so I'll check in if I was able to get it back to how it was before. I suspect that the PIT file used in this guide may be what is causing the recovery loop. I will try the SM-G930V conversion without it to see what happens. My ultimate goal here is to get my Straight Talk S7 rooted.
can you get me the link to SM-G930VL Tracfone firmware you used please
Hello. I attempted to flash my SM-G960U (from Cricket Wireless) with firmware, G960U1OYM4CSC7, from SAMMOBILE. I downloaded the Samsung USB drivers. I used 7-zip to extract the files from SAMMOBILE. There was an MD5 error on the extraction of the AP file. I deleted the ".md5" file extension, making it just a .tar file to allow it to load into Odin. I used the Odin3 v3.13.1_3B_PatcheD. I put my phone into download mode, connected to my PC, and started the flash. The process failed. Now the phone says "An error has occurred while updating the device software. Use the Emergency recovery function in the Smart Switch PC software." I downloaded that, but selecting the recovery function doesn't do anything. There is an option to recover using a recovery code, but I don't know what code to use.
There is a small black bar with "SECURE CHECK FAIL : system" in the top left corner of the S9 screen. It doesn't seem to respond to any of the buttons.
I did manage to note the baseband version of my phone. It's G960USQS3BRJ6. Any help to recover my phone and correctly flash would be greatly appreciated.
I tried to root my phone, it went wrong and it is stuck in download mode. Most tutorials say to download the stock firmware and load it in odin at the " AP " box, but the download file from sammobile.com has 5 files and the website says to load each one in the right box... so which one do i do ? (When i tried to root my phone i loaded only a AP file)

ok load AP BL CP and CSC FILES and press start !
CSC vs. Home_CSC, the difference
Upon downloading the full firmware on your Samsung gadget, you can see the five different separate files. They together form a file on the phone. They are tagged as
BL (Bloatware),
CSC and Home_CSC,
AP (Kernel, Vendor and System information),
CP (Modem)
In this post, generally, the CSC and the Home_CSC are focused. They are available for different purposes despite there is not much difference in the two when compared with each other. You can select it depending on one prime factor.
CSC- When you choose to flash this file in your Samsung device, it will erase everything in it, and your data will be gone before making the changes to take place in your Samsung device
Home_CSC- This is a file that can be selected if you really don’t want to lose your phone data and any of its important settings. You can find it the same, even after flashing the same.
CSC is the option that is generally recommended. This is because it confirms the most appropriate updates for your phone. On the other hand, Home_CSC instruct Odin to don’t cause any change to the phone settings and the data stored while reinstalling an update such as a security patch.
