I have soft-bricked my phone by trying to install a different kernel and ROM on my Pro Duos B5512.
Flashing only the kernel in the thread by championswimmer didn’t work because of a md5 mismatch.
This guide should also work with other samsung models if you find the right firmware (search on http://www.mod2xtreme.com/ or http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1656825)
All credits go to manoranjan2050 for his great work in uploading the firmware for all the samsung galaxy y devices!

There I downloaded the latest firmware for Europe. Using Odin3 v1.85 I flashed successful and my phone is back up and running!
Here is a step by step:
1. Download and install KIES by Samsung (Odin needs these drivers to work)
2. Download odin3 1.85 (search on xda)
3. Download a firmware pack on mod2extreme
4. Open Odin and put the phone into download mode (volume down+Home+power, then select volume up to enter download mode)
5. Wait for your computer the finish the automatic driver program and your computer should recognize your phone
6. Now select the following files in ODIN (make shure auto reboot and F. reset time is selected)
-> PIT is the .pit file in the firmware map, the box in ODIN to Re-partition should be automatically checked now (if there isn't a pit file then this remains empty)
-> BOOTLOADER, select the file which has BOOT in the file name
-> PDA, select the file which contains PDA in the file name
-> PHONE, select here the file which has MODEM in the file name
-> CSC, select the file which has CSC in the file name
Info:For Save Use Do Not Use Boot loader and pit file. Do this only if everything else failed!
When everything is set-up click start and keep your fingers crossed! When everything goes according to plan your phone should restart, copy some files to system and the reboot again. Your phone is back to life! (boot could take 2-3 min)
Hope you fix your phone!

1. Suggestion..
Add "[GUIDE]" to your thread name.. It helps to identify what it is in mobile xda app.. and change mobile name to galaxy y variants.. As i suppose your guide covers both y duos and y phones... And lastly add link to manoranjan2050's thread (link)who is doing great work of providing all latest stock firmware updates to both duos of galaxy y.. So anyway good info..

Thaks for the great guide. In Nitubhaskar's compact kernel thread for our device he gave advice on how to flash stock kernel and recover from soft brick in case you brick phone while flashing custom kernel. Can you add some of that info here and credit the appropriate persons? It would be great to have all relevant soft brick info for our device. Yor thread is dedicated to recovering from soft brick and so would be the best place to have all the facts in one piece

Hi, I have not used odin before, but my phone (B5512 galaxy y pro duos)
has a firmware from another country and I want to have my own
(because then I can write in my language). I have downloaded a file which
has "modem"," csc" and "pda" files only and it's the firmware other people
from my country have (B5512XXLF2) . I think my phone has Polish firmware (B5512XXLL1)
while I want the Greek one. Also, these two types seem the same
(the only difference in the code is the year month and version)
but one has greek keyboard and the other doesn't, what's the deal with that?
Will this method work for me? If not can I recover my phone?
I have not done this before and the phone is less than a month old and I am scared!

Recovery via odin should be possible. As for flashing Greek firmware I recommend you talk to Deadly or another expert via PM before proceeding.

Here we go.
1. Download the i467 firmware from http://www.sammobile.com
1a. Extract the main zip file you downloaded. Leave the .tar.md5 files intact. They are the files you select with Odin in steps six (6) and nine (9).
2. Download Odin 3.07 from http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1738841
2a. Extract and launch Odin.
3. Download the pre-rooted I467UCAMF1 images from SAMSUNG-SGH-I467I467UCAMF1-ROOT.tar
3a. Do not extract or modify this file.
4. Do a factory reset of the device either in system settings or using recovery (volume up). Yes, I have found you must do this.
5. Boot into download mode. (Home + Volume Down + Power)
Step 6 is only required if you accepted the OTA "CAMF2".
6. Use Odin to flash all four files downloaded in step 1. BOOTLOADER, CODE, MODEM and CSC files.
6a. Let the device finish install and boot.
6b. Boot into download mode. (Home + Volume Down + Power)
This is the fun part.
7. Select PDA in Odin and select the file downloaded in step 3. Make sure all other files are not checked. Flash... Odin will say it failed. Yes, don't worry, recovery is still there.
8. Reboot into download mode (Home + Volume Down + Power)
9. Using Odin only flash the BOOTLOADER, MODEM, and CSC from step 1. Do not flash the CODE file or the modified image. In other words, leave PDA unchecked in Odin.
10. Let the device install and reboot.
You should now be able to run SuperSU.
If you want to update to OTA CAMF2 then follow these steps BEFORE DOING ANYTHING ELSE;

If you are looking to update to MF2 after you root, make sure that you enable Survival Mode within SuperSU Pro and then perform the update BEFORE you remove any bloatware or make any changes to the file system, as changes in the system will cause the update to fail.
Remember to do a backup of any apks before removal as this will allow you to put them back in place in preparation for future updates. (MF3?)
Hope this helps mitigate some of the questions.

Everything went well and I was able to root after 2 months. Took a while, but thank yery much. I've missed Titanium Backup so much.
Instructions were very clear and concise. Was able to root in about 15 minutes with reboots and pushes. Worked perfectly following the instructions to upgrade to MF2

I think that he's talking about SIM unlock maybe? If that's the case, I'm assuming that the way that this root was setup, you will probably need to re-unlock the SIM, but I'm not 100% sure.
So glad we finally have root! Won't do this until a bootloader is figured out though. But this is the first step! I wish I knew more on how to crack bootloaders to help out :/
So I know, does this method work with the OTA Update that AT&T put out in August?

Step six is just for you.
Only issue I had was forgot how picky Odin is about cables. Used a monoprice one and it Odin wouldn't see it. Used the stock cable and all was good.
Tablet is rooted and am in the process of debloating it.

I have not used Odin, how do you "flash" these files? It looks like you have to do them one at a time. I am just unclear how to flash the files.
Also, It looks like you are doing them twice if you have the CAMF2 update, which I do, is that the case?

I downloaded the factory firmware from sammobile (took over 2 hours)
but I think the csc file is corrupt. odin gives an error when I try to select it, and windows shows that the last modified date for the file is year 3247
I downloaded the zip again from sammobile and it's still the same.
Could anyone upload the csc file somewhere like dropbox??

EDIT: When I tried to select the csc file I was getting the error "parameter is incorrect". Googling the error shows people saying to remove the ".md5" extension and retry.
When I did, it accepted it (although I didn't flash it yet). But I just wanted to make sure that I am not bypassing the checksum and flashing a corrupt file. Is that what you guys had to do as well, assuming it is still the same factory firmware on sammobile?

This thread is a tip for Googlers who don't know what to do to fix their Note 5 AT&T phone with the following message:
"An error has occurred while updating the device software. Use the emergency recovery function in the Smart Switch PC Software"
<This screen is Odin Download Mode>
The above error screen is secretly "Download Mode", you do not have to get into Odin Download Mode in order to flash your firmware. If you can't get smart switch to work and you don't know your base band version, like me, then trying all the firmwares until one succeeds might be a solution for you.

I have used Odin 3.10.6 and 3.12.5 to flash the 6.01 ending in PK1 from the above screen. Either of those odin versions obtained via XDA-developers forum will work.
If you need to retry to flash your firmware with Odin after an error you must reboot. VOLUME DOWN BUTTON + POWER BUTTON + HOME BUTTON. keep holding them, you don't have to unplug it will reboot shortly
Added 02-26-2016 --- PJ1 firmware have a corrupted BL combination file from all known online resources! I recovered param.bin from the damage BL and took the remaining files from PJ1 small ota file

I need firmware to create removal tools for customers planning to switch carriers on varying versions. My collection so far is efficient but when I find a way to beat the bootloader I would like my tool to be one step regardless of baseband. While I am still trying to find a competent way to forcibly remove the locked bootloader I am confident I will get there especially with the availability of twrp for almost every other variant along with many great kernels for Android 6.01.
Note: I have no idea how to remove the bootloader without access to dirtycow and I haven't confirmed my fix on baseband beyond N920AUCS4CPK1. I would need help from someone very confident with android to test scope beyond baseband N920AUCS4CPK1
I never considered someone could reach this screen without knowing what Odin is and I really meant this post to help those learning Odin. I am sorry that I have no idea what options are available from AT&T / Samsung, using smartswitch or kies. Generally if you see this screen you achieved doing so using a flashing tool such as, but certainly not limited to, Odin for Windows or Heimdal for Linux/Mac.
It is my opinion you shouldn't flash firmware to your phone unless you know what you're doing. Odin has great protections against corrupt files but you need to obtain legitimate copies of the correct firmware. If you flash a rooting firmware especially from the wrong phone it is a real fight to get back into download mode and then you probably shouldn't screw up twice.
Thanks for your collecting.Now I have PL1 package, I will upload it soon. In fact I have a way to download all Frimware end to the latest QB2.......But it is not for free, each package cost about 2.5USD and only get security path.Now I'm waiting the Nougat firmware, I will upload them when it was released....

You're not the first person I've help who couldn't connect smart switch, or the other program they have, and it wasn't a problem with the device.. Before we start you should know that AT&T official store can repair your device in a few minutes at their official store. You will be updated to the latest version but there is even some chance they can save your data!!! If you want to do this yourself for one of the many obvious reasons, such as you don't have AT&T store. Don't worry it's not a huge problem because that error screen is Odin Download mode.
1. First thing you should know is that if you upgrade you can't downgrade. If you don't know which version you were on, and that's important to you, then you should download the lowest firmware version first then try the next versions one by one. (SW REV. CHECK FAIL) <--- that means you tried to downgrade
subnote: if you don't care which version and you don't care about root? download the latest firmware PK1 and save yourself the headache.
2. Next you should understand the buttons fully.
POWER + VOL. DOWN for 8 seconds == REBOOT
when screen goes blank release and then press these to enter download mode: POWER + VOL. DOWN + HOME
3. But again I want to remind you that you DON'T need to enter Odin Download Mode, that error screen IS download mode. But you have to reboot before trying. So press Power + Vol. Down and then just let it reboot to that error screen.
4. Download the lowest version firmware linked here. Uncompress the firmware file until it is 4 files.

5. You have a NEWER device so you load all 4 slots with those files ( the slots are labeled)
6. If you get SW REV. CHECK FAIL then download the next version of firmware and try again. If you get to the latest one I linked above but you still have that sw rev check fail message then reply back here to let me know and I will look for a later one for you.
Note: You can flash these and get your phone to turn off if you get tired and want a break
You can flash ANY boot.img and recovery.img to your phone and eliminate that error message almost 100% of the time.. This isn't a repair method unless by some crazy chance you have PJ1 firmware and your boot.img was the problem, I think your system.img is the problem tho.
1. Download these files.

2. Flash them with Odin as I described above.. (don't forget to reboot to that error screen again, sounds stupid but it's necessary to reboot to the error screen fresh)
3. Reboot your phone POWER + Vol. Down for 8 seconds or so.. When the screen goes blank quickly release then hold Vol. UP + Power + Home
4. If it didn't show a little green android then enter recovery mode you missed.. repeat step 2..
5. Select power off (don't wipe, that would nuts) but power off is safe even using the wrong firmware version
Here's Odin if anyone needs it. For Note 5 I recommend versions 3.10.7 or 3.12.3

SETTINGS | SYSTEM | Language and Input <--- if not here I don't know how to solve, i will keep my eyes open for a solution for her.
That version that you're on is within scope of my current work to allow custom roms, but currently I'm still developing the method. (this bootloader is locked I will get around it eventually).. If you upgrade beyond that version I don't know if I can get root again. Best thing to do is give me a couple months to see if I can conquer the bootloader, I think I will win. Don't pass that firmware version that you are on PK1

My first guess is that a package it needs is disabled or damaged. But also you should know that sometimes I have to flash twice in a row with Samsung devices after a crashed out install to get it right again. Also... Did you check logcat to see what the problem is? There is a lot of information coming through logcat and while a couple errors isn't uncommon we always want to watch it after a customization to see what fails.
I am just getting back after several days away if you're still not able to solve this in the next couple days I will test it on mine, to check dependencies and etc.

Most tutorials say to download the stock firmware and load it in odin at the " AP " box, but the download file from sammobile.com has 5 files and the website says to load each one in the right box... so which one do i do ? (When i tried to root my phone i loaded only a AP file)

CSC vs. Home_CSC, the difference
Upon downloading the full firmware on your Samsung gadget, you can see the five different separate files. They together form a file on the phone. They are tagged as
BL (Bloatware),
CSC and Home_CSC,
AP (Kernel, Vendor and System information),
CP (Modem)
In this post, generally, the CSC and the Home_CSC are focused. They are available for different purposes despite there is not much difference in the two when compared with each other. You can select it depending on one prime factor.
CSC- When you choose to flash this file in your Samsung device, it will erase everything in it, and your data will be gone before making the changes to take place in your Samsung device
Home_CSC- This is a file that can be selected if you really don’t want to lose your phone data and any of its important settings. You can find it the same, even after flashing the same.
CSC is the option that is generally recommended. This is because it confirms the most appropriate updates for your phone. On the other hand, Home_CSC instruct Odin to don’t cause any change to the phone settings and the data stored while reinstalling an update such as a security patch.

It may happen that you want to go back to the original firmware of our Samsung, after trying various custom ROMs, after having rooted and modified the recovery, missing with the phone partitions, lost EFS folder or corrupt IMEI. The reasons can be many. This guide is aimed at all those who, with the classic Odin procedure to install the stock rom, are unable to restore the phone to normal operating conditions.
But it can happen to fail in this thing, even using Odin to put back the original software, Odin himself or the phone can crash to the BOOT partition or generate other errors, with VBMeta or generic errors, including partition ones.

Once you have downloaded the zip containing the various parts that make up the stock software (see image below), extract it to a folder of your choice. We will have 5 files in total.
2 - Retrieve the original PIT file
To recover the PIT file (partition list) for our device, go to the firmware folder you just downloaded with Frija, locate the "tar.md5" file with the words CSC_OXM_N............., right click on the it and select rename, adding ".zip" at the end to "transform" it into a compressed file that can be opened. This way you will have something like
"CSC_OXM_N975...............REV01_user_low_ship.tar.md5.zip"
Give the Ok and confirm the change of the file extension.
You should now have the same situation as you see in the image below. Total 5 files of which one is a ".zip" files.
Now open the file you just renamed with 7zip, the main window of the 7zip program will open with various files inside:
Now copy the "D2S_EUR_OPEN.pit" file by right clicking and selecting the "copy to ..." item and giving the ok without changing anything. The .PIT file will be copied to the same folder as the previously downloaded firmware.
Once this is done, the folder that appears will look like this (Now, the total files are 6 of which one is a ".zip" files):
Now just put the CSC_OXM ... file back to the previous condition, renaming it one more time and eliminating the ".zip" extension at the end of the name, in order to find an MD5 file again. This will be the file we will have:
"CSC_OXM_N975...............REV01_user_low_ship.tar.md5."
Now we have everything we need. If we have done everything correctly this is the final result (Total 6 files).
3 - Prepare and Configure Odin
Now open the latest version of Odin (as of May 2022 the latest version is 3.14.4), load the corresponding downloaded firmware files in the various slots (BL, AP, CP and CSC) as usual.
In the CSC box, upload the file labeled "CSC_OXM_N975 ............... REV01_user_low_ship.tar.md5."
Did you know that....
The CSC_OXM file is used to restore the internal memory as factory, this will delete all personal data in the phone memory, all applications and data associated with it.
The HOME_CSC_OXM file, on the other hand, will not act in any way on the internal memory. Useful if you want to update while remaining in the same type of ROM. Not recommended if your phone has a Custom ROM installed, as it may not start or give errors in previously installed applications.
If you want to do a clean install of the original ROM, always use the CSC_OMX file!

Once this is done, move (still in Odin) to the "Option" tab and check the following items:
Auto Reboot
Nand Erase
Re-partition
F. Reset time
The rest of the items MUST NOT BE SELECTED!
Again in Odin, this time go to the PIT tab, a warning message will appear, give the ok and select the first extracted file which has the unique name "D2S_EUR_OPEN.pit"
If you have done everything right you should have the same situation as the image below:
4 - Return the phone to the original firmware
Connect the USB type C cable to your phone and restart your phone in "Download mode" (check the right combination for your model), or use the Custom Rom to do this, usually all coustom roms or custom recovery offer reboot in Download mode (or Booloader).
In odin in the "Log" tab, you should see the word "Added" with the number of the port to which it is connected (example "0: [COM3]"), if so, press the START key of Odin and wait for the restart (this procedure will delete all data on your device).
If nothing appears, install the Samsung USB drivers and repeat step 4.
5 - Relock the BootLoader
To get rid of that fatal warning message when starting the phone that tells us that the BootLoader is unlocked once and for all, let's put it back in place, relocking the BootLoader.

Turn off the phone, reconnect the USB cable and immediately press the Volume + and Volume- keys at the same time.
Return to Download mode (albeit a little different), with various options (actually only 3).
In this case, follow the second option (Volume up long press: Device unlock mode) hold down the Volume + key for a few moments until the message "Lock Bootloader?" Appears. To confirm everything, make a single click on Volume + (also in this case the phone will be formatted by the system again) and wait for a complete restart.
6 - Relock OEM (optional but recommended if you want to stick with the Samsung ROM)
Once your phone has restarted and the initial setup is complete, you can also disable the OEM unlock capability and reuse the security features.
To do this, go to Settings / Phone Information / Software Information and tap several times on the wording "Build version" in order to unlock the "Developer options". If prompted, unlock your smartphone with your PIN or sign.
Now go back to the main Settings page, open the Developer Options and check that the "OEM Unlock" item is disabled, otherwise disable it and restart the device.
Well now you have your Samsung with Original firmware again. Enjoy

In the next lines we will see how to restore our Samsung device to its original factory conditions, after unlocking the Bootloader, rooting and installing various types of custom installations, such as custom OneUI, AOSP or Google ROM.
It may happen that you want to go back to the original firmware of our Samsung, after trying various custom ROMs, after having rooted and modified the recovery, missing with the phone partitions, lost EFS folder or corrupt IMEI. The reasons can be many. This guide is aimed at all those who, with the classic Odin procedure to install the stock rom, are unable to restore the phone to normal operating conditions.
But it can happen to fail in this thing, even using Odin to put back the original software, Odin himself or the phone can crash to the BOOT partition or generate other errors, with VBMeta or generic errors, including partition ones.
So let's see how to solve all the inconveniences due to modding on our Samsungs to 99%. Let's begin!
- MATERIAL REQUIRED:
Latest version of Frija link
Latest version of Odin link
Samsung USB Driver link
File Manager zip (example 7zip) link
PC with Microsoft Windows 7-8-8.1-10-11
USB type C cable
1 - Download the latest stock firmware for our Samsung:
Download the latest version of Frija and once the program has started, enter the model code of your device and the abbreviation of your CSC.
Make sure the "Auto" checkbox is checked.
Once you have checked everything, click on "Check Update" and click on "Download". Wait for it to download.

Tried with differents CSC too, but my phone doesn't start the system. Just starts the download and recovery mode

I followed the full guide, but I got stuck after flashing the firmware in Odin. It shows the screen of "Erasing data", and after that, nothing more
Even after locking again the bootloader
And yes, I ticked what's needed in Odin and used the .pit file
My model it's SM-N975F

Well odd, because once the original firmware is installed, I don't see why it should crash on boot ... unless there is a hardware problem in the phone's internal memory.
I know it may sound trivial, but the usb cable you use is good and did you use the latest version of Odin?
Have you checked maybe if the internal memory is right for you. If it is 256Gb or 512Gb
You could try this, if you see that it does not start try to enter the recovery (the original one) and delete everything you can, like cache and do a reset data directly from the recovery. Then try restarting and see if it starts.
If it still doesn't boot, try this thing.
Install TWRP custom recovery and enter once installed.
Go to Wipe Section in TWRP, Repair or Change partition, System and Data, and Changed Ext4 to EXTFAT. And changed back to Ext4. Eventually rerun the guide again.

The USB it's the original from Samsung.

Tried from reset data on official recovery to doing the change of format in TWRP and the doing all of the process again. No success.
Also tried with USB OTG with system, vendor, product and boot image. Neither
One thing that happened is that when trying to change the system partition to exFAT, it gave an error (system is not mounted) but changed the format to vFAT. Changing it to another option doesn't give that error, so I tried to do with another option and back to ext4.
I don't think it's a physical issue, if turns on, there is some hope at least
There is almost certainly a solution to your problem. (have you tried to do "format data" and typed "yes" in TWRP recovery?). Anyway, it's night at my place now, I'll see tomorrow to think of some other solution.
Tried already. Also tried to format the data with fastboot (Lineage Recovery gives the option to fastboot in Samsung)
I have the exackt same problem with my note10+ with 256GB and dual sim. and the problem you describe is also 100% what i experienced and still have as an issue... If you get to the point where you can solve the issue then please write me my friend. I will do the same ofcourse... btw can you use your pen in TWRP? i can only mark the files but not click them to run...? i have the idea that the TWRP for our model isnt built right somehow..

I saw a video, which through the ADB shell a guy was able to find the list of all partitions with the numbers of all the blocks and information and practically managed to rebuild the system partition from scratch, but I don't know if it works on samsung.

Hi, I was trying this today and I'm stuck at "An error has occured while updating the device software."
Odin was stuck at product.img for over an hour so I restarted the phone using volume down and power.
I tried again and it keeps getting stuck at product.img while the phone shows this error. Please could you help me out?
I followed all the steps exactly as you said, but I noticed while in download mode that it showed Warranty Void: 1
I did not root the phone, only flashed Pixel Experience and now trying to go back to OneUI

Hello, then, the Warranty Void at 1 is triggered when you install a non-original firmware (in this case the PixelExperience), or when you change Recovery (ex: the TWRP) or you run the ROOT.
Any other software that is not in original firmware triggers the Knox to 0x1 irreversibly.
In your specific case, by installing the LineageOS Recovery and the PixelExperence ROM you have triggered the Knox at 0x1.

OK well. Glad it was helpful. Yes, however, until you root all the apps will work. The only one are some applications by Samsung that will no longer work because they are based on the knox.
Otherwise like Google Pay, all banking and account apps, software updates should work smoothly.
