My s20 Exynos is draining 1 percentage battery every 3 minutes when screen is on. Location , bluetooth, aod and all are off including Bixby. I'm using single sim and signal is very good. Using wifi for data. Can't understand what is causing battery drain.
Is my battery fault? I purchased just 2 weeks ago and it's really frustrating me.
Thanks a lot for your list. I'm going to do factory reset and check how it improves. Its a big pain moving all files to pc and copying back. I'll update my status in some days sure. My sot is very bad now, getting 3 hours only

For the moment it's normal let the phone learn your habits and your usage do the update and do 2 or 3 full cycle charge (20 to 100%) after that it will be good if not you can ask a replacement because you have a damaged product

It has completed learning habits already. When I put full charge it shows 1 day 2 hours left but it is consuming 15% when screen is on and doing web browsing with wifi.

Check for an OTA Update, some Exynos users are reporting lower battery drain after the latest update.
Its up to date. Yesterday I received wireless dex one ui 2.5 update. Battery drain is still worst. I have cleared cache also. Anybody help me to solve this please?

I had similar issue on my S 20 Ultra but even worse. After update to One UI 2.5 I had huge battery drain, overheating, can not even reach 120hz and had lags every 10 secconds no matter what I was doing.
I tried to: Wipe cache did not help, new function apps optimizer did not help, restart did not help.
I found that new "design" Edge panel ate approx 8% of battery over the night so I disabled it ,restarted my phone and everything went back to normal.
I never had such a problems with any phone in the past. This is embarrassing!
Hope this will work for you too!
May I know how did you know edge panel took 8%?
Because battery care does not show system apps power consumption. Accubattery and gsm battery also did not show system apps power consumption.
I struck on finding which one is causing this huge power consumption.

settings -> device care -> battery -> battery usage-> edge screen
edge panel is a part of edge screen "app" which I can normaly see in the list.
I've checked it. It shows only 1% was used for edge screen. Samsung has hidden the feature of showing system usage like screen , wifi, cell radio signals etc.
Why the hell they did this. If it is available we can easily find which one is causing issue
Any ideas?
Try running med power saving as a test, see what your drain is then.
What is showing as your biggest battery drainer? You can try grabbing galaxy labs and seeing what's going on via battery tracker. You can find galaxy labs in the galaxy store, if it's not there then someone posted the apks in the apps forum as it's only available in some regions. . It gives you a little more granular visibility in batt usage.
check out gsam battery monitor from google play store. You will need to enable permissions to allow it to collect enhanced stats. This is done via ADB ( Android Debug Bridge), which is quite a simple process. The app walks you through enabling it step by step. This may help to identify what is going on. I can't remember how much detail it gives on system processes. But it is free, so worth a try
Newest update has also tanked my battery. Have a S20 snapdragon.
welcome to the world of exynos
see my post #311 here https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s20/review/screen-time-t4010447/page32 it may assist with some options to tweak to help with your drain. I got the new update a few days ago and my battery use is still fine, around 3% drain overnight for 8 hours.
Battery and Lag
I have the S20+ and when the new software BTH5 was installed...it was a nightmare ...huge drain and lag was terrible...I wiped cache no difference then factory reset which I hate doing due to the reinstall........however it is absolutely perfect having done that. hope that helps
Install Better battery stats from plays store, give it all the required permissions, do a full cycle and check what is draining your battery there. It's a very good app, perfect for troubleshooting battery problems.

There is no app causing battery drain because I have put all apps in deep sleep mode. Accubattery and Samsung labs battery tracker showing apps power consumption only and not hardware power consumption.
I've charged for 92% and it went to 82% in half an hour of sot and 2 hours of screen off.
This is very annoying me to find out where is the problem
No issue here. Do a factory reset may help

I am still experiencing high battery drain issues. I am using Badass Battery Stats, and I am seeing high battery use from App Usage (30%), with System (com.htc.launcher) taking 16%.
Is this normal, are you guys seeing similar results? What is your Launcher usage?
I am at 65% after 10 mins of screen usage and 3 hrs of standby.
For comparison, my phone lasted like 35 hrs yesterday/the day before, with ~2 hrs of screen usage.

your best bet is to use BetterBatteryStats and that will give you a more detailed explanation in what is draining your battery when screen is off. Launcher should not really eat that much battery it is normally the screen. so if i was you i would remove that app for one charge cycle and try bbs which you can get from a thread here on xda and found out from that what is eating your battery my friend

*#*#3424#*#* -> More -> Battery Test and if it's faulty ask for a return/exchange. I got around 87% +/- 1 after1 hour of the test.
I actually swapped my unit once already, the last one had drain issues as well. I wonder if it's something on my software end.
BetterBatteryStats couldn't find anything unusual on my last device, but I will try it on this guy as well.
Will try the battery test as well, thank you.
I have a ton of contacts (1k+) that got imported from my Gmail. I wonder if the device is trying to sync those, which causes some of the battery issues - since the included "Contacts" package is indicated in the screenshot I attached.
I turned off auto-sync for contacts, will see if that helps at all.

Get Slim ICS installed. I've tried almost every ROM out there for the HOX, and this is by far the best battery consumption I've ever had!
A new ROM is a solution, but was hoping I could get stock working fine first... :/
Do you guys have any suggestions on how to diagnose what could be causing that htc.com.launcher is taking so much battery? I'm up to 25% now.
Is it me or are people using Badass Battery experiencing bad results for battery?
Well let me tell you when I use it I get worse battery. It tells you what is using your battery, but when I decide to disable some of the things it picks up on. I get worse battery life. Also the app itself drains a lot of battery.
I am not an expert, but some the items disabled are integral to the system. And the system trys to enable these apps, but can't. It's like batteries playing hide and seek with the apps and running out of breath.
I got my ram usage down to 490 mb ish with all apps killed, but I had the worst battery life ever. It was draining fast even with the phone in sleep, and I had random apps I disabled starting (Flickr and PDF viewer).
My advice is trial and error. Use the task manager as apposed to these battery heavy apps, and if you find a place where you are getting awesome battery results, stop tinkering!
Edit: a bit enthusiastic in the Ram department.

There's a new battery monitor just come out for free on the play store called carat.
This app's meant to tell you which apps are using your battery and compares it to other phones.
It has to monitor your device for a week before it can give you the results but if it works properly it will be worth it.
have you found a solution? I have the same issue and don't know how to fix
I'm a new user of one x and the battery drain is appalling....i charged it full and was just playing around customizing the phone/settings and i could see it was draining one percent every one to two minutes!
I'm coming from sgs2 although it wasn't great but wasn't as bad as this!
Also, following my customisation etc i changed the sim card and all my customized settings such as wallpaper etc reset back to default!

I, for once was having the same problem..but after one week or two, the battery seems quite stable, and after I played among those beautiful ROMs, I can get the most out of my battery..thank God, I hope you will have the same experience..
Maybe if you wanna stay stock, start to analyze what 'culprit' that actually drained your battery..try using the search bar and use different search terms such as 'battery saving guide' bla bla bla..there are several thread have discussed the same issue..
I am on stock Rom and this is the first full charge after a factory reset although the phone is not brand new but a few months old...

Also i keep hearing random notification type sounds without any notifications...why is this as I'm using stock Rom and unrooted?

Try disabling Location & Google Search (Settings -> Location). Noticed that Google services drained 65% of my battery, and heated up the phone. And it only happens when I turn on wifi and update the weather widget, which uses network location service. The drain won't stop until I restarted. Under the services, there's a network location service. So I tried disabling the said setting. Not sure if it will work for you, but it won't harm if you try.

For the last 2 days I've been seeing a huge decline in standby time. Last night I went to bed at 100%. A little more than 6 hours later and I was down to 88%
The battery settings shows no apps using battery and the full device usage only shows Android System, Phone Idle, Android OS and Mobile network standby.
GSam shows 70% of battery for app usage but won't say which apps and as already mentioned the battery settings shows no apps using battery.
I also haven't installed any new apps in the last two days either. I even rebooted my phone last night right before I unplugged it when I went to bed.
I usually lost like 2% over 7-8 hours of standby. Now I'm losing like 12% in just over 6 hours of standby.
That's a standby power usage increase of like 6x for what seems like no reason.
Any ideas of what could be going on?

In my experience 1%/hr while in standby not being touched at all(doze) is NOT common. It's usually like 0.333% for me. Your claim of 1%/hr would result in an 8% drain in 8 hours. I usually see 2-3% over 8 hours.
I will try to remember to use safe mode when I go to sleep tonight but since I haven't installed any new apps in the last several days and the battery stats don't mention any apps using a lot of battery I don't expect much difference.

FB app is the devil!
When on the 6P I was losing a ton of batt life after installing the FB app.
I uninstalled it and used a bookmark on my home screen to access FB via browser, and my batt life immediately jumped back to where it was.
FaceBook app or 25% less batt life? See ya FB!
As far as the OP question: I'd suspect something is going on in the background as I have two apps that are recognized as using battery in the background and I only lose 3-5% overnight.
Could you have changed a setting and forgotten about it (GPS, WiFi scanning, sync, etc,) or is it possible your service/signal has been really poor the last few days?
Good luck figuring it out!

FB was the one that really stood out as a huge batt life killer. Any app that's constantly checking for and sending notifications will likely put a good dent in your batt life as well.

30% is a lot.. Go for battery setup and try to find an reason (some apps maybe eat little bit more, then they should). Second problem is processor... Owners of Exynos have bigger battery usage, then Snapdragon users, that is fact. Maybe try to turn off voice activation of Bixby.

I killed all open apps before going to bed. And still...
Battery usage shows nothing. The game was played before going to bed, so it was not the caused.
This is a big disappointment.
Edit : yep, just noticed I had Bixby voice wake up enabled. Just killed it. Let's see tomorrow.

I have the exynos version
Running US version mine uses about 2% overnight sometimes less
Mine Exynos looks so . The Battery can better, don't know what I do wrong
I have the same results. 4hrs, sometimes barely 5hr of SOT
Android system, and idle device seems to drain too much battery ... I'm disappointed.
Yeah me too,
I see a lot of people with crazy SoTs that go beyond 7 or 8 hours. And i'm stuck here with 4 to 5 hours. I don't see why since Samsung develops its own Exynos platform. Maybe Android isn't fully optimized for Exynos ?
My Note (Exynos) use about 5% max 10% battery over night. Always on display is off and Bixby still off. 10% if everything is turn on.

Nope. I think it depends on the LTE band and provider. is just a guess.
I have finally fixed my problem. Reset all Network and System Settings (without factory reset), put all the settings back how I had before, and now it is going fine into Deep Sleep overnight.
Went from 31% to 5% battery drain in 8h sleep. Now its perfect.
Don't know exactly what was causing it but it must have been a bug as all the settings are exacly as I had before.

Friends, I have 5 charge cycles with this equipment, I suffer from battery drain too, does anyone know what the battery health means in the "PHONE info" for samsung APP? the Battery Health value that appears to me is 40.1%. Is my battery defective?
I just came from S21 Ultra and I'm noticing a huge drain in my Fold 4 about 15% to 20% overnight and I'm not sure if it's normal nor where it comes from.
I disable AOD during the night. I used GSAM to try to figure out the culprit with no luck.
Do you have any thoughts?
I leave mine on a wireless charger overnight so not sure then, but it seems to barely drain anything through the day unless I'm actively using it. I did notice the first 2 or 3 days though it seemed to drain a lot faster while it was "learning" my habits. Now I have no fear of getting through a full day of heavy usage even though I've set the charging to cap at 85%.
A lot of things can affect it. 5G data takes a lot more power than wifi and I run wifi at both home and work so I'm rarely outside of a wifi range. I also use wifi calling. I don't use AOD except when there's a new notification.
I would speculate there is an app on yours not allowing deep sleep. Mine so far has only been dropping 3-4% through the night.

I thought so at the beginning but looking in gsam I found out that combined app cpu is consuming a lot of juice. I'm a long time avid android user and I've looked into all the possible causes but surely I'm missing on something.
EDIT: battery drain while I'm using it is superb, but it drains while standing by.
I noticed with the Fold 3 it took a few days for things to settle and apps to sleep.
But def check what apps are NOT going to deep sleep. Then add those that don't need to run in the background.
I have the 3, waiting on my burgundy 4, and with very little use during the day I get good battery. At night, it would drop but not by 15-20%.

I do recommend taking the time and settings the apps that don't need to run in the background to go to sleep. I don't need a calculator running, so it can sleep. And so on.
But yeah, you'll see things level out.

I don't know if I've ever had a phone with better standby drain than the Fold 4. Just an experiment but I took it off the charger at 3PM yesterday and didn't touch it until 5:30AM this morning and it was at 95%. This is just the 3rd full day of use. I am using Nap Time with a couple adb commands to give the proper permission for an unrooted phone. Also turned of continuous scan for wifi and bluetooth, disabled Bixby and a lot of the bloat too.

Update: so I let it stand by and I guess the culprit is oneui home app and it's strange to me since it's drawing more than it should and keeps the device awake, and for some reason keeps the screen awake as well.
I've cleared the cache and force closed it and I'll see if this fixes the issue.

1% standby drain per hour on ANY smartphone is exceptionally good. Looks like you are 2.5% drain per hour. That's not terribly bad though either.
Try putting phone into flight mode before you go to sleep. This will tell you if drain is radio/app related or the core OS.

Great idea, I'll try and report back.

If its home, maybe a widget that's loaded doing polling not allowing deep sleep? Worth nuking them all see if it makes any difference.

What app are you using to check your battery stats?

Battery guru
I like battery guru so far. I use to use Better Battery Stats from here on XDA but it doesn't seem to work as well as it use to. I noticed that I have nothing logged for wake locks, is that a limitation on the Fold 4?
At this point, I give up.
My fold doesn't sleep at all even after a factory reset and wiping the cache, I can't figure out what is causing this issue. It's drawing anywhere from 5% to 10% per hour while standing by.
I advise you to install "gsam battery labs", and in the settings of this app enable "show more statistics" (this require a PC with adb minimal package installed, USB debugging on on the phone and a USB cable).
It can tell you which app uses what % of the battery and for what reasons (downloading, GPS usage, etc), even for system apps, and most importantly even when the screen is off or the phone is dozing.
This as been my go to app since using android phones, in combination with accubattery (which doesn't show system packages or anything usefull while screen off).
As for my ZF4, when the screens are off it is using 0.5% per hour during night time (deep sleep) and 0.9% during the day (light sleep)
Hi all, I've just bought a refurbished s21 fe and was a bit surprised to see that it uses about 1% of battery every 4 - 5 minutes with the screen on. So the battery only lasts about 8 1/2 hours of mixed use screen time.
I wanted to ask if this was normal for this phone or do I have a poor battery? AccuBattery says that battery health is 95%
If it's running warm or hot it's not the battery that's the issue... yet.
Find the power hogs; either eliminate them or tone them down. Keep display brightness at 50% or lower.
Should have said it's a sd888 version and not using 5g
Phone doesn't get very warm

What the actual current drain?
If it's constantly drawing 400-500+ milliamps at idle it going to suck the battery down fast.
Currently averaging 295mA/h but battery has just been charged. I'll post again once battery is drained.

That's reasonable. If the battery has gotten to 80% of it's original capacity it's reached the end of its usable service life and should be replaced.
It's not a big deal... unless you don't replace it and it fails which can damage or destroy the device. Any battery swelling is a failure.
In a heavily used device the battery will last 1-3 years with 2 years being the average.
Thanks. Accubattery app says that battery capacity is 95% so it should have plenty of life in it yet, if that figure is to be believed.
Just checked today's figures. it's using just under 500 mAh with screen on and 85 mAh with screen off. This thing is seriously power hungry.

85 mAh is very excessive if AOD is set to tap on.
Google backup and cloud apps are prime suspects.
My apologies, I think I read it wrong. Just checked and it now says 120 mAh used in 5h screen off, so just 24mA per hour. The app reports a bit strangely.

That's a good result if cell and data services a on.
So it's somethings that are running with the display on that are chewing into the SOT.
@blackhawk please could you see the screenshot from accurate battery ?
I am losing battery very fast.

What's the actual usage for SOT and for screen off? Accubattery history is very useful to monitor gross usage and establish a baseline.
Example, it's getting about 11%@hr SOT now. That's normal for this N10+ with a battery that's reached the end of its service life (approx 3200mAh). With a new battery those stats would be about 6-8% instead if using mostly Brave browser over 3 hour, 13 minute period.

What do you mean the actual usage of for ? Can you explain more?
While you see the screenshot you see a normal battery life ?
Start by turning off Global power management, it never worked right. Then go after the power hogs on an individual, case by case basis.
Set power to Optimized and try these power management settings:
Now go power hog hunting...
Uninstall the trashware. Stoiximan and all social media, sales apps. They are using a lot of resources. Login to them usingy a secure browser like Brave instead.
Google play Services and its dependencies Playstore, Gmail and Backup Transport can suck a lot of battery even when the phone is sleeping.
I normally temporarily disable Google play Services unless I need to use Gmail. I don't use Google (except gmail) or Samsung cloud anything so all cloud system apps are disabled.
Google Framework and Quick Search box are always disabled. The parasite Bixby never runs, always disabled.
A logging firewall can show you which apps are accessing the internet (and using power) when they should be at complete idle in spite of the app settings.
Galaxy Battery Tracker is a useful tool:
Set AOD to tap on. The power consumption when sleeping should be >.5% @hr, if higher something is running in the background. Likely Google backup Transport.
Use Package Disabler or abd edits to block apps that can't be dealt with using their settings or can't be uninstalled. I package disable about 70.
Be very careful what you disable; target only the power hogs and totally worthless apps like Digital Wellbeing. Dependencies... don't go too nuts or you'll destroy the functionality of the UI. Leave the many smaller Samsung system apps alone except for -known- bloatware you don't use. Try to know what you're disabling does and its dependencies if any. Do Not use other people's shotgun lists, create your own based on your requirements. This takes a while

Looking at Accubattery history.
It shows say 30% used. If it shows SOT to be say 3 hours then it's getting about 10%@hr SOT.
After a while doing this becomes second nature.
Can be used to easily see how much was used when sleeping overnight too (give some charge then turn off display for the night, see how much was used in the morning).
