Question S21 fe battery life - Samsung Galaxy S21 FE

Hi all, I've just bought a refurbished s21 fe and was a bit surprised to see that it uses about 1% of battery every 4 - 5 minutes with the screen on. So the battery only lasts about 8 1/2 hours of mixed use screen time.
I wanted to ask if this was normal for this phone or do I have a poor battery? AccuBattery says that battery health is 95%

If it's running warm or hot it's not the battery that's the issue... yet.
Find the power hogs; either eliminate them or tone them down. Keep display brightness at 50% or lower.

Should have said it's a sd888 version and not using 5g
Phone doesn't get very warm

What the actual current drain?
If it's constantly drawing 400-500+ milliamps at idle it going to suck the battery down fast.

Currently averaging 295mA/h but battery has just been charged. I'll post again once battery is drained.

That's reasonable. If the battery has gotten to 80% of it's original capacity it's reached the end of its usable service life and should be replaced.
It's not a big deal... unless you don't replace it and it fails which can damage or destroy the device. Any battery swelling is a failure.
In a heavily used device the battery will last 1-3 years with 2 years being the average.

Thanks. Accubattery app says that battery capacity is 95% so it should have plenty of life in it yet, if that figure is to be believed.

Just checked today's figures. it's using just under 500 mAh with screen on and 85 mAh with screen off. This thing is seriously power hungry.

85 mAh is very excessive if AOD is set to tap on.
Google backup and cloud apps are prime suspects.

My apologies, I think I read it wrong. Just checked and it now says 120 mAh used in 5h screen off, so just 24mA per hour. The app reports a bit strangely.

That's a good result if cell and data services a on.
So it's somethings that are running with the display on that are chewing into the SOT.

What's the actual usage for SOT and for screen off? Accubattery history is very useful to monitor gross usage and establish a baseline.
Example, it's getting about 11%@hr SOT now. That's normal for this N10+ with a battery that's reached the end of its service life (approx 3200mAh). With a new battery those stats would be about 6-8% instead if using mostly Brave browser over 3 hour, 13 minute period.

What do you mean the actual usage of for ? Can you explain more?
While you see the screenshot you see a normal battery life ?

Start by turning off Global power management, it never worked right. Then go after the power hogs on an individual, case by case basis.
Set power to Optimized and try these power management settings:
Now go power hog hunting...
Uninstall the trashware. Stoiximan and all social media, sales apps. They are using a lot of resources. Login to them usingy a secure browser like Brave instead.
Google play Services and its dependencies Playstore, Gmail and Backup Transport can suck a lot of battery even when the phone is sleeping.
I normally temporarily disable Google play Services unless I need to use Gmail. I don't use Google (except gmail) or Samsung cloud anything so all cloud system apps are disabled.
Google Framework and Quick Search box are always disabled. The parasite Bixby never runs, always disabled.
A logging firewall can show you which apps are accessing the internet (and using power) when they should be at complete idle in spite of the app settings.
Galaxy Battery Tracker is a useful tool:
Set AOD to tap on. The power consumption when sleeping should be >.5% @hr, if higher something is running in the background. Likely Google backup Transport.
Use Package Disabler or abd edits to block apps that can't be dealt with using their settings or can't be uninstalled. I package disable about 70.
Be very careful what you disable; target only the power hogs and totally worthless apps like Digital Wellbeing. Dependencies... don't go too nuts or you'll destroy the functionality of the UI. Leave the many smaller Samsung system apps alone except for -known- bloatware you don't use. Try to know what you're disabling does and its dependencies if any. Do Not use other people's shotgun lists, create your own based on your requirements. This takes a while

Looking at Accubattery history.
It shows say 30% used. If it shows SOT to be say 3 hours then it's getting about 10%@hr SOT.
After a while doing this becomes second nature.
Can be used to easily see how much was used when sleeping overnight too (give some charge then turn off display for the night, see how much was used in the morning).

Screen on time

It's amazing how much we actually use our phones in a given day, especially when we watch "videos"! Rate this thread to express how many hours of screen-on time you can get on the ZTE Axon 7 before depleting the battery.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
One of the better SOT phones I've owned since coming from smaller 4.5 inch screens. I easily get 4 hours on a long day (16 -18 hours off the charger). I watched 2.5 hour movie the other day and did some more stuff. In 8 hours, I had over 5 hours of SOT with 47% battery left.

I don't like gsam because it doesn't read the SOT from the system. It records it's own stats.
GSam battery monitor allows you to see the stock android battery stats and screen on time from there by going to the menu on the bottom right, clicking more and then Battery Use - Built In. If there is an easier way to get to stock android battery stats, I'd love to know.

Nothing special, really? It's basically stock, I just disabled some stock apps: Browser, calendar, stock email, Gmail, Hangouts, and stock messaging. Everything else is left alone.... I even installed the actual Facebook app (aka: battery eater) for the first time in a few years, since my battery can keep up now.

No screen on time. I am in an area where I get no service and was using WiFi, so today I turned on Airplane mode and then WiFi and it seems to work a lot better. though I still need to investigate is battery drain is bad when using the phone in normal service area.

This is the best phone I've owned in terms of battery life. With nova launcher and using nova's battery widget I can see my SOT. I average 5:30 which is alot for me. I have gotten as much as 6:40! This is all usually over 12-28 hrs. The phone is just phenomenal, just wish the camera was better.

I would believe it. I got about 5 hours in my last run. What I think ate up about 20% was listening to music through the speakers.. The phone drained faster than normal Witt the speakers on at max volume.. Which makes sense and is 5000% tolerable because how amazing they sound.
Furthermore, if I could get some stronger cell phone signal, that would help with screen on time too. I never have no signal, but I never see over two bars of signal either.
Sorry about double post.. Forgot to include second one..
Ok, I thought this was a battery beast but I think I was wrong. I don't expect any phone's battery indicator to be totally accurate but I've noticed that if I top the A7 up a little the battery doesn't drain *at all* for a long time. I've been letting it go down to 30% then topping it up to 40% where it stays without moving even while I'm streaming music and surfing for half an hour. Fishy.
I thought that as I was on about 3:30 sot at 40% I'd let it go down further to see if it would reach 5 hours. Three charging cycles in a row the phone has hit 19% and then reported that it's empty and shut down.

Why should it say 1500 mah? The screen is not the only thing that drains the battery, you know that, right?
Running any benchmark will cause many battery drain. Don't do that. And that app you have to see the cpu temperature, 42º is not high for CPU. For battery it is.

What help? Get a new battery or go away from Snapdragon devices. And, the screen usage is about right, because i don't know if you know, but the screen you are staring at is 1440x2560, or 2K, which is an insane resolution, and crammed in a 5.5 inch display at 538 ppi, it will consume A LOT. And the battery is just 3AH, which seemed much, but compared to the S5, with a 1080p display and a 2.6AH battery, the G3 has the worst SOT out of the 2014 flagship lineup.

The 2K screen doesn't consume that much power. There are mods which allow you to lower the resolution, but you won't see much or any increase in battery life or performance (maybe in games it's going to be most noticeable).

Sounds like a bad battery. Quite possibly a reason why the other person decided to sell it in the first place. How old is the device that you purchases?
You can get an original replacement battery online for a few dollars. Just make sure you use a reputable vendor, like LG's official website.

But when i add up usage it totals lower then the battery capacity, they total up to 1000mah at 50%, when it should be 1500mah
Do you have any benchmarks i can try so i can see if its working right or its just me.

Oh so it's a brand new LG? How many hours of screen usage are you getting, what usage (web browsing, checking email or playing games?) and with what period of idle time.
Don't trust the numbers in the battery stats, especially in a new ROM. They are supposed to get better over time but I've found them to be wildly inaccurate even on months old ROM. I haven't really found an application you can benchmark accurately with.
But you compare with other (real) results on the foruns and rather you get the hang of what's the normal usage you should be getting out of a good battery.
Did you make a day without running any benchmark apps? What is your SOT? Standby time? Do you have location, wifi, bluetooth,NFC,mobile data on?
All of this matters. You shouldn't start right away with "I have problems with my battery" if you are running benchmark apps. Benchmark apps drains battery!
Wait a few days without running that apps and see how it manages. Another thing. The battery stats, the mah usage, not all of the things appears in the default android battery stats. And another thing, the battery value (the percentage of the battery), it is an approximation. Sometimes it could go up without charging, it is because it detected that has a wrong value. You could try charge your phone to 100%, usage it normally until 0%, until it turns off. Then charge it again to 100% and use it normally (don't discharge to 0% to many times, it just hurts the battery).

Oh yeah, considering you even streamed the movie, it's signs of a good new and healthy battery. 3 hours of SoT with internet browsing is quite the norm, and 4 hours is on the up side.
I can barely get to 2 hours of SoT with my now aging battery.

It's not about the software side of things, it's about that my battery is old now, and that's why happens to old batteries, the just deteriorate.
Thankfully the LG G3 has an easily replaceable battery, and I have a replacement waiting for me. Not getting a phone on which you can't remove the battery..
And never found those apps like Greenify to really work, at least in the last few years of Android. The OS seems to be doing just of a good a job and I see no improvement in battery life. Maybe they help in cases with poorly written apps that are draining your battery in the background, but I don't see why would you use such a software in the first place.

Huge decline in standby time.

For the last 2 days I've been seeing a huge decline in standby time. Last night I went to bed at 100%. A little more than 6 hours later and I was down to 88%
The battery settings shows no apps using battery and the full device usage only shows Android System, Phone Idle, Android OS and Mobile network standby.
GSam shows 70% of battery for app usage but won't say which apps and as already mentioned the battery settings shows no apps using battery.
I also haven't installed any new apps in the last two days either. I even rebooted my phone last night right before I unplugged it when I went to bed.
I usually lost like 2% over 7-8 hours of standby. Now I'm losing like 12% in just over 6 hours of standby.
That's a standby power usage increase of like 6x for what seems like no reason.
Any ideas of what could be going on?

In my experience 1%/hr while in standby not being touched at all(doze) is NOT common. It's usually like 0.333% for me. Your claim of 1%/hr would result in an 8% drain in 8 hours. I usually see 2-3% over 8 hours.
I will try to remember to use safe mode when I go to sleep tonight but since I haven't installed any new apps in the last several days and the battery stats don't mention any apps using a lot of battery I don't expect much difference.

FB app is the devil!
When on the 6P I was losing a ton of batt life after installing the FB app.
I uninstalled it and used a bookmark on my home screen to access FB via browser, and my batt life immediately jumped back to where it was.
FaceBook app or 25% less batt life? See ya FB!
As far as the OP question: I'd suspect something is going on in the background as I have two apps that are recognized as using battery in the background and I only lose 3-5% overnight.
Could you have changed a setting and forgotten about it (GPS, WiFi scanning, sync, etc,) or is it possible your service/signal has been really poor the last few days?
Good luck figuring it out!

FB was the one that really stood out as a huge batt life killer. Any app that's constantly checking for and sending notifications will likely put a good dent in your batt life as well.
Sorry I couldn't be more specific.

snapchat is another common one
there are also a decent bit of ram/storage "cleaner" apps that besides being useless drain your battery
Do you have an exchange account syncing with Gmail?

Terrible Battery Life

I don't know with the others, but there seems to be mysterious battery drain on my A70. It's night and day, compared to my old ZE553KL with only 500mAH difference in battery.
Is there any tips to get even more battery life from this thing?
Hello,
I have the same problem, battery goes down so fast, very disappointed with battery life.
My battery life is great (6h SoT at least), I usually end the day with more than 50% battery left. Maybe you have some apps draining the battery in the background or the update messed it up so it might be worth doing the reset to factory settings.
Check - background scanning wifi and gps if is ON it drain battery a lot , also if not need change gps accuracy to coarse . Battery draining apps samsung software report itself after 2-3 days .

Hello thank you.
Where I can found this settings please?
I actually have very good battery life,i would suggest you to install greenify app and add all the apps in the hibernation list and create a shortcut key on the home screen, one click and all those battery sucking apps will hibernate.

+1 I can easily get 2 dats use between charges (UK H3G branded Firmware).
I also have a terrible battery life for two weeks, before 100% to 90% I did more than 1 hour of screen and now does not reach 40 minutes, attached screenshot

Can you attach Battery Usage? So we could compare the rate for thorough analysis?

I've never had that application installed
I'm getting excellent battery life.. I'm only using 4g network...
I can't say why but I found out that disabling bixby (voice thingy) makes a huge difference on my A70 with battery.
to those, who use 3rd party battery apps:
I think you should stop using 3rd party battery apps (battery monitoring, saving apps) they consume a lot, too, and do the same as the built in battery app. I experienced when I installed one of these "useful" apps, and it consumed the most battery, so these are fake. Simply uninstall or disable really not used apps. You will see difference in my opinion

S20 serious battery drain issue

My s20 Exynos is draining 1 percentage battery every 3 minutes when screen is on. Location , bluetooth, aod and all are off including Bixby. I'm using single sim and signal is very good. Using wifi for data. Can't understand what is causing battery drain.
Is my battery fault? I purchased just 2 weeks ago and it's really frustrating me.
Thanks a lot for your list. I'm going to do factory reset and check how it improves. Its a big pain moving all files to pc and copying back. I'll update my status in some days sure. My sot is very bad now, getting 3 hours only

For the moment it's normal let the phone learn your habits and your usage do the update and do 2 or 3 full cycle charge (20 to 100%) after that it will be good if not you can ask a replacement because you have a damaged product

It has completed learning habits already. When I put full charge it shows 1 day 2 hours left but it is consuming 15% when screen is on and doing web browsing with wifi.

Check for an OTA Update, some Exynos users are reporting lower battery drain after the latest update.
Its up to date. Yesterday I received wireless dex one ui 2.5 update. Battery drain is still worst. I have cleared cache also. Anybody help me to solve this please?

I had similar issue on my S 20 Ultra but even worse. After update to One UI 2.5 I had huge battery drain, overheating, can not even reach 120hz and had lags every 10 secconds no matter what I was doing.
I tried to: Wipe cache did not help, new function apps optimizer did not help, restart did not help.
I found that new "design" Edge panel ate approx 8% of battery over the night so I disabled it ,restarted my phone and everything went back to normal.
I never had such a problems with any phone in the past. This is embarrassing!
Hope this will work for you too!
May I know how did you know edge panel took 8%?
Because battery care does not show system apps power consumption. Accubattery and gsm battery also did not show system apps power consumption.
I struck on finding which one is causing this huge power consumption.

settings -> device care -> battery -> battery usage-> edge screen
edge panel is a part of edge screen "app" which I can normaly see in the list.
I've checked it. It shows only 1% was used for edge screen. Samsung has hidden the feature of showing system usage like screen , wifi, cell radio signals etc.
Why the hell they did this. If it is available we can easily find which one is causing issue
Any ideas?
Try running med power saving as a test, see what your drain is then.
What is showing as your biggest battery drainer? You can try grabbing galaxy labs and seeing what's going on via battery tracker. You can find galaxy labs in the galaxy store, if it's not there then someone posted the apks in the apps forum as it's only available in some regions. . It gives you a little more granular visibility in batt usage.
check out gsam battery monitor from google play store. You will need to enable permissions to allow it to collect enhanced stats. This is done via ADB ( Android Debug Bridge), which is quite a simple process. The app walks you through enabling it step by step. This may help to identify what is going on. I can't remember how much detail it gives on system processes. But it is free, so worth a try
Newest update has also tanked my battery. Have a S20 snapdragon.
welcome to the world of exynos
see my post #311 here https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s20/review/screen-time-t4010447/page32 it may assist with some options to tweak to help with your drain. I got the new update a few days ago and my battery use is still fine, around 3% drain overnight for 8 hours.
Battery and Lag
I have the S20+ and when the new software BTH5 was installed...it was a nightmare ...huge drain and lag was terrible...I wiped cache no difference then factory reset which I hate doing due to the reinstall........however it is absolutely perfect having done that. hope that helps
Install Better battery stats from plays store, give it all the required permissions, do a full cycle and check what is draining your battery there. It's a very good app, perfect for troubleshooting battery problems.
edit: here's the link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.asksven.betterbatterystats

There is no app causing battery drain because I have put all apps in deep sleep mode. Accubattery and Samsung labs battery tracker showing apps power consumption only and not hardware power consumption.
I've charged for 92% and it went to 82% in half an hour of sot and 2 hours of screen off.
This is very annoying me to find out where is the problem
No issue here. Do a factory reset may help
