Somehow my HTC One X (tegra 3) phone must have bricked itself overnight. It will not turn on and when I connect the charger lead the light does not come on.
Since the phone is still under warranty I take it to Phones 4u, the guy there reckons that it is a battery fault (which makes sense to me, given the circumstances). Anyway that was all last week, today I get a phone call from P4U saying that it's going to cost me £125 to repair it because it is not under warranty. They are claiming that the phone has been opened before and the VOID sticker is damaged as is a load of the shielding tape inside the phone. This came as quite a shock to me since I bought the phone "new" from them last year and it has never been opened in the time that I have had it.
My theory is that the phone has a fault that is going to cost a lot to repair so Phones4U (Would it have been sent to HTC?) have either claimed that the phone has been damaged or they have damaged it so they can thieve some money from me.
Anyway, back to the point, has anyone else had this issue if so does anyone know how to resolve it (or if that's feasible)?

I'm on the same boat
Mine was off and i put it to charge and noticed that it wasnt charging. no light! it reboots. I'm on 5% charge
nothing on ADB/fastboot.
solution!
ATTENTION! HERE IS SOLUTION! MIGHT WORK FOR! IT WORKS FOR ME!
hi there! first of all i want to apologize as my english is not perfect.
now the story, i have this problem for 3 months now. nothing helps to permanently fix this. it started one day, my battery runned out while i was surfing internet, phone switched off as it does normally. i did put in on charger (original) but no charging light came on, i checked it after few hours but no light where there, phone was dead! i didnt worry to much and just left it there over night to charge, but in the morning i found that red light is still not on, not charged and completely dead. i did every method metioned on any forum- holding buttons, pulling sim out combination nothing helped!!!! my HOX is rooted with custom rom and latest HBOOT version. i were so dissapointed that my warranty is void. then i decided to take phone apart, take battery out and measure its voltage with multimeter, so i did that and battery was 3.18v. so i cut USB lead and charged battery up to around 3.8v that was wery tricky to do as HOX's battery have odd connector, after that i did put every thing together and phone turned ON, i did charge it normally to 100% which measures 4.2v in APP. calibrated battery by deleting batterystats.bin file. next day battery went flat, and exactly same thing happened again. it must be something wrong happening when phone swithing off by it self, it does not switching off completely that causing it not reacting to butttons. SO i think if i put in freezer for 10-15min it will kill the battery and cut power to phones PCB (eq = battery pull) because any button combo is not = battery pool. so i wrapped it in cling film to prevent condinsation and kept phone in freezer for 15min. do not attack me with commets like "cold temp killing LI-ion battery for ever" i dont care i dont want to hear any of these stuff i did what knowing that, cuz there is no real solution to this problem! it is sounds like crazy! i know! im am russian so im used to do crazy stuff ) after i took it from freezer my HOX felt like ice.. hooked up charger and WOALIA!!! red light started to blink = battery to low to swith on. after half an hour red light came on persistant and my phone swithed ON without problems. after few weeks i replaced battery with other one but no joy! still same thing, i used to do this for months because sometimes i wasnt able monitor battery and turn phone off manually before it reaches 1% charge. I did not experienced any battery life shortening (at least i didnt spot any serious life drops) I SUSPECT THIS IS SOFTWARE RELATED PROBLEM, SO PLEASE IF ANY DEVELOPER OR ANY ONE WHO IS KNOWS WHAT EXACTLY CAN CAUSE THIS, PLEASE LOOK AT THIS CASE. IT MIGHT BE A SOLUTION OTHER THAN MINE!! cuz in the end it sux putting ur phone to freezer
NOW - solution! kind off..
when u did my methot if it worked for you of coure.. you need APP from Playstore - LLAMA location profiles. in LLAMA app you can create action based on event. se lets make event BATTERY under x% and create action for that - POWER OFF PHONE! set delay for 2min so u can stop ongoing event once u on charger and ur battery is less set %. I did set it for 5% and 2 min delay just to be on safe side. once battery reaches 5% charge action is created after 2 min, and phone turns off. dont try to power it ON!!! if u did by accident, just turn it off once it booted! dont ask me for help using LLAMA it is not complicated as it looks, play aroud with charged battery, experiment. u can add additional actions like play sound + screen on+ vibrate+ power off. if that helped u press thanks button as this text took me whole hour to type
AND PLEASE SOMEONE SORT THIS! AS HTC ONE X' PCB NEED TO BE CUT FROM POWER TO RESET AND START CHARGING. I DO THAT BY DEPLEATING BATTERY CHARGE WHRE PCB CUTS OFF POWER. SUB-ZERO TEMP DOES THAT TO BATTERY, BUT WE NEED REAL SOLUTION!!
thank you if read this til end

I am pleased that I haven't had to do this! I argued with Phones4U a little more and they have agreed to replace the device, I think that the repair job was far too expensive for them to justify doing it. Hopefully will have a shiny new One X (or One X+ if they have no stock) by the end of today!

Hi Guys,
I am having a serious problem with my HTC One X, it doesn't turn on (I have tried long pressing the power button and long pressing the power button + Vol Down combo) and it doesn't charge (the LED indicator doesn't turn on).
Perhaps it will help if I explain what happened before this:
I was on a train watching an episode of a TV show, a 720p MKV file, in MX Player, when I noticed that my battery was at around 50%, nothing unusual yet. So I decided to bring out my external battery pack and charge my phone. The external battery pack has a capacity of 7800mAh and has two USB outputs, one is labelled as 1A and the other in labelled at 1.5A. The night before I had tried charging my phone from both outputs, and to my surprise, my phone told me it would take 2 hours to charge when it was plugged into the 1A output, and 3 hours to charge when it was plugged into the 1.5A output.
Anyway, after I plugged my phone into the battery pack, I continued watching this video on MX Player. For some strange reason, the video crashed, it stayed at the same frame, even though MX Player told me that the video was still playing and the time was moving forward. I thought this was strange so I decided to rewind a few seconds. The animation that comes up on MX Player when you move forwards or backwards showed up - [10:00] - 5 seconds, (or something like that). The video file stayed on the same frame. I cant remember if the phone turned off by itself, but what might have happened was that I held the power button for upwards of 10 seconds and then it turned off.
At first, I thought that my phone had crashed and would just reboot, as had happened to me a few times previously.
What is strange is that my phone was on around 50% charge, so I don't know why it wouldn't turn on again.
The end result was that my phone was dead, it wouldn't charge or turn on. The red LED indicator to show that it was charging did not turn on. I tried holding the power button for upwards of 10 seconds, but nothing happened, the three lights at the bottom of the screen didn't blink. I tried holding the power button and volume down button for upwards of 10 seconds, but nothing happened here either.
I bought the HTC One X in July of last year on Three UK, so it has been more than 1 year since I bought the phone, but less than 2 years, so I am not sure if I am still covered under warranty, as I already had it fixed once, earlier this year.
In addition, my phone is rooted and on a custom rom, the latest CM10.1.2 stable build to be precise. I'm pretty sure this voids my warranty, however, my phone is dead, so perhaps the repair guys won't be able to work out that I was on a custom rom.
I appreciate any help and advice that you guys can give me!
Thank you so much,

Well first of all they will figure out ,when they boot the phone, that you voided it and secondly does the phone over heat because that could have had anything to do with it and ,especially since your in the uk, You should have got a secondary warranty like
HTML:
protectyourbubble.com
But now the best you can do is buy the warranty and wait a month as thats the minimum and then tell them that your phone has broke they will then fix it or give you a replacement...OR what you have done is burn out the battery the best option for this is to replace it but then again these are your choices insurance, or battery

You say that they will figure out I voided the warranty when they boot the phone, however, the problem is that I am unable to boot the phone. If I sent my phone in to repair to Three UK, would that be the best possible option? I have done some research and I have two years of warranty.

Would I still be able to get my phone repaired for free?

Battery failure is a hardware fault...MOST places will accept a return even if your bootloader is unlocked and custom ROM's installed since the software has little effect on an out and out hardware failure.
Secondly, if the phone will not boot there is no danger of them even getting that far.
Lastly, if it is still under warranty, return it for repair/replacement.
It was likely your external battery pack that has killed your phone.

Thanks so much for your help!
I had a little ordeal with Three UK the last time my phone broke. My screen died, which was clearly a hardware fault, however, they wanted to charge me ~£80 because I had unlocked the bootloader. I called them many times, but the customer service was a pain in the ass, and in the end they dropped the charge to ~£40, even though I had told them repeatedly that it was a hardware problem. In the end, the phone they returned to me 'after fixing' still had a dead screen, so they gave me a refurbished replacement for free (after calling customer service)
If they fix the battery, perhaps by replacing it, will my phone boot then? Because if it does, surely they will see that I am rooted and on a custom rom?
Out of curiosity, how would my external battery pack kill my phone? Would 1.5A kill my phone? I think 1A is what the voltage should be.
Thanks,
~DarkyHero

Well Amps and Volts aren't the same thing.
And the HOX will only accept a maximum input of 1A anyways, regardless of the output of the charger. But if your charger surges enough you can burn out that charging circuit.
Now...an external battery pack charger operates similarly to a universal mains charger in that it can provide a range of voltage, amperage and wattage outputs. You will want to make sure your external pack is capable of providing the correct voltage and amperage output. In the case of the HOX (and about a million other things) it's 5V @ 1A. So it is very likely to be compatible.
BUT...SOME external packs HAVE been known to surge and completely overload the charging circuit of the device(s) connected. I am not sure of brands or anything like that, but it's generally a result of poor internal design and or/components, and it SOUNDS like that is exactly what happened.
If 3 UK are being b*stards i'd dig out the actual paperwork warranty and have a look see at the T&C's. Who is liable for what, when, and how much.

Voltage thrills, current kills
I bought my external battery pack at some market stall, so I can believe that it may have been faulty. However, having said that, my HOX was able to charge the previous night from both 1A and 1.5A outputs.
What story should I tell Three UK when I contact them to ask them to repair my phone? Last time my display broke, I told them that it was a hardware fault, but they basically ignored me and told me something else (they were being complete wankers) -_- and tried to charge me anyway
What will they do if they fix the phone? Will they replace the battery? And if they do, will they be able to boot and see that I have rooted?
Thanks,

Firstly, stop bumping. Grinding is far superior
OK, so it seems to me that you bought some crappy Chinese half made battery pack, which lasted all of one day before turning into a raving phone killer.
Seems to me your battery is fried, not your internal components and probably not your NAND, but I don't have a good knowledge of how the HOX is engineered to handle very high surges. I have no idea if all your internal stuff is fried too.
Contact 3 and see if they will replace for free. If not go to a normal repair shop and ask for a full diagnostic + repair. That way they can't charge you for a procedure that doesn't fix your phone.
Good Luck and let us know what happens

No, it was a really nice battery pack, 7800 mAh battery pack with an aluminium case. And the guy selling them was charging his Samsung Galaxy Note 2 on one of them, and even let me charge my phone on it. Before I left with the battery pack, he made me charge my phone with it to check that it worked, and it did.
Are you sure about full diagnostic + repair? How much would that cost?
Guys, what part(s) do you think are broken with my phone?
If it is just the battery, I might consider buying one and replacing it myself.

Hi
I`ve had this problem a number of times
Simple fix - plug into your pc - hold power button and down volume button for 15 seconds - the low screen will flash a few times - then plug back into the power supply - check to see if red light flashing and leave for 10 mins - then power up - be warned, let it charge up before using or will crash again
Same thing just happened to me now except that I was just playing Candy Crush and noticed around 51% battery, all of the sudden game froze and tried to reboot a couple of times but didn't work and finally phone got completely turn off and couldn't turn it back on, when I plug it in for charge no charging indication
Same problem here: One X doesn't turn on, not even charging indication. Still, the phone gets a bit warm when connected to the wall charger - so there is a charging current, but with no effect..?!
Is there a known solution to this problem? Exchanging battery/logic board/...?
UPDATE: Changing the logic/mother board did the trick for me. Now I'm back with a working phone, but all the data is lost. Just exchanging the battery or some other part (like power button) did not suffice in my case (tried everything).

So..? what to do now..

I removed the battery and put it back and now it works
Hi All,
About a year ago, I bought an HTC One X from Three UK. I recently came to China on holiday and bought an external battery pack from a market stall. Everything seemed to be going well until one day I plugged my phone into the external battery pack and it suddenly died even though it was on ~50% charge, it wouldn't boot and it wouldn't charge when plugged into a power supply (no red LED shining). No combination of pressing buttons would work, so I decided to get it fixed.
I went to a repair guy in China who said that he would charge me if he could repair my phone, but no charge if he couldn't. He disassembled my phone but was unable to fix my phone. He said the problem was that the motherboard was 'burnt' (I'm not sure if the literal translation is correct), and that it would cost 70% of the original phone's value to repair (although he could be wrong about my motherboard being dead)
Now my dilemma is this: I'm not sure if I should send it to Three UK or ask another cheap repair shop in the UK. The problem with sending it to Three UK is I'm not sure whether they will repair it or not - my phone is completely dead and I don't know whether they will count that as improper usage. Also, now that my phone has been opened, will the repair center be able to tell that my phone has been opened before (I'm pretty sure I'm not allowed to open up the HTC One X) and then deny my warranty?
Thanks for any help that you guys can give me!

I haven't but I probably let it charge a while after my HTC One X died. Out of curiosity, why one day? It seems an awfully long time.
I'll plug it in now, and when should I take if off the wall charger? Also, what signs should I be looking for?
Thanks,

I'll plug it in now, and when should I take if off the wall charger? Also, what signs should I be looking for?
Thanks,

I'm hoping for a blast of life. I once thought I hardbricked mine, I left it in the wall charger and it booted up in the bootloader after being in the charger for a day. Reflashed my rom and boot.img and never have i had problems. I suggest trying to boot the phone up after a day or so, if this will not work try and charge it again and acces the bootloader right away. If you can access the bootloader you can flash custom software. Does the red LED show if you charge it? Can't you acces the bootloader at all?
Oh ok, so am I hoping for it to suddenly turn on or am I hoping that after a day or so I will be able to boot into bootloader?
I have not really used it or charged it since my phone died, but the red LED doesn't show if I charge it and I cannot access bootloader

Yes just leave it be, it's all the advice I can give to you right now.. Try it and if it doesn't work you can always get a replacement. This is a weird issue though, I also had a HTC sensation which behaved the same. Left it overnight on charger and it booted to bootloader, then I used a battery script to charge it up while it's restarting to bootloader.
Just leave it on the charger for a day or overnight, see if it turns on
The same thing happened to my previous One XL. In my case I flashed a recovery, had to reboot and the phone just "died". It wouldn't charge or turn on. Not even after charging overnight. It took a JTAG repair to bring it back to life.

Possible fix
Okay, so a while back I had this same problem. My phone turned off, and whenever I plugged it in to charge it did not seem to be charging, odd. The red light was not coming on either. I was told to do 2 things, i cant remember which order so try both.
Option 1:
Plug your phone into your turned on computer with the USB cable and leave it there to charge until the red light comes on (leave for 1-2 hours, more if you feel it necessary), then quickly put it on charge using the wall charger.
Option 2 (not likely to work):
Plug your phone into your wall socket with the USB cable and wall charger and leave it there to charge until the red light comes on (leave for 1-2 hours, more if you feel it necessary), then quickly put it on charge through your turned on computer using the USB cable.
If neither of these work (as dumb as this may sound)turn off your phone and put your phone in the freezer for 15-30 minutes (This is done to discharge the battery, wont break your phone). When you've left it there for your chosen time, try option 1 again. If that doesn't work, turn the phone off again and put it back in the freezer for the same time and try option 2. If they don't work, i'm sorry I don't know how to help you.

Thanks, when you say it booted to bootloader, do you mean you had to press some button combination and it went into bootloader mode or did you wake up and your phone just happened to be in bootloader mode?
Also, would opening up the phone void the warranty? Because, if so, I'm not sure I will be able to get a replacement.
Thanks,

Thanks, I'll leave my phone plugged in to my laptop and come back to it in a few hours.
Which problem would your solution be fixing? Would it be trying to fix the battery? Because, apparently, the problem with my phone is the dead motherboard
Thanks,

Yeh it would be for fixing the barging issue of the battery

'Barging'? But surely fixing the battery wouldn't fix the motherboard?
Sorry, I'm slightly confused, please could you explain?
Thanks,

Sorry I meant charging. I found it hard to believe that your motherboard was the problem, but if you're sure that's the issue then don't bother trying my suggestion. That really sucks man, how'd it happen?

I think everyone is kinda missing the point here, the OP made reference to an external battery pack from a market stall which seems to be what killed the handset. Coupled with the fact that a seemingly reasonable repair shop, they didn't charge any money, said the board was dead I think it's safe to assume that the external battery pack was the wrong voltage/amperage or it was faulty. And just in case you do try to charge it, on the slim chance the shop was wrong about the board, it's no good charging on your laptop, you need to plug it into wall charger.

Yes, thank you so much, you are the first person to pick up on that!
I did leave my phone plugged into my laptop for a few hours, but no red charging LED. I also left my phone plugged into the wall charger overnight, but also no red charging LED. Does this confirm my fear that my motherboard is completely dead?
The guy I went to seemed reasonable, but he didn't seem 100% reliable. He didn't have a manual of the HTC One X up on his computer screen or anywhere, he just went straight in, although it might just be me being the skeptical one. I would say I don't completely trust him, so should I go to another cheap repair shop in the UK or just send it to Three and hope they don't notice the phone has already been opened?
Thanks,
~DarkEddy
Anything is worth a try if it isn't going to cost you money, although I must say I have seen a number of cases of external battery packs frying boards. I would say three would be your best option if it's still under warranty, but the there is a screw inside that has a seal over it and if that screw was removed then they will notice the broken seal, unless they are blind. They look for things like that so they can get out of repairing handsets free of charge. If the phone is dead you don't really have anything to lose. The only other option is sell it for parts

Thanks so much for your advice!
When you say you've seen a number of similar cases, do you often repair mobile phones or as a job?
If I do send it in to Three for repair, and they notice the broken seal, how much will they charge me to repair it or will they even give me this option at all?
Thanks,

This is your second thread on this issue, why not continue in the other thread...I reference http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=44370602#post44370602
To answer you dilemma directly, send it to Three and play dumb as a post. You have no idea what they're talking about...did they sell you a refurbished phone? You're outraged, blah blah.
Or you might try going to HTC directly.
With either or, I would simply leave out the details. You plugged it in to charge, which you did, and it just died. Poof. Gone.

I suppose I should have continued in the other thread, I just thought my post was a bit cumbersome and overloaded with excess information.
Three did send me a refurbished phone when they weren't able to repair my previous HTC One X, but I'm pretty sure they would have tidied up the internals as well (adding their seals)??? They even sent it to me with some blue plastic tape covering the back and sides of the phone.
I could try going to HTC directly, but I suppose it would be more complicated than just asking Three, so I'll do what you said and hope for the best

I bought a note 10.1 2014 Ed a couple of weeks ago on eBay. Not refurb and sealed in the box.
Devastated to find tonight, after completely discharged and shut down, that it seemed not to charge at all.
It becomes stuck on either the battery symbol, where nothing happens, arrow doesn't spin and no animation, or goes to the device model name. All the while the brightness flickers.
Have tried various chargers, I've taken all the cards out but nothing is working
I think it may be a loose connection with the battery (but open to other theories).
If anyone has had this problem, how have you fixed it? Is it worth disassembling and trying to fix it myself (as I'm sure you can tell I don't have a lot of knowledge about this)? Being an eBay purchase is it still under warranty with Samsung? How much would a fix be if it was a loose battery?
Thanks in advance

As far as I am aware items from ebay are not covered under warrenty.
Even with the screen off and nothing happening, leave it on charge for few hours then unplug and try to put it on.
Also have a look into the charger port of the tablet at the bottom to make sure nothing looks bent or out of the ordinary.

samsung sm-p605 dead not starting
havig the same error mentioned above.. got the device new from amazon, shipped to chile where i live.. recieved it and tried switching on and didnt switch on.. tried connecting wall charger for couple of hours no progress not even battery symbol coming up.. tried usb to laptop battery image comes up with no animation.. and screen flickers... boots in odin mode... when tried booting in recovery mode stucks in screen where the model name appears...
plz help since i have 0 hrs of usage completely new.. chile samsung doesn't accept becos its purchased in usa.. any email of samsung will also help
shame i always liked samsung over apple.. and bought a product with no support.. apple atleast accepts product bought anywhere in the world and even replaced battery for my frnds iphone 5s when in warranty...
I have not had this issue with my Note, but my Nook did the same thing once. I disconnected the battery for a few minutes and everything reset. No idea if this will help, or if you are adventurous enough to try it.
Here are some pictures of the Note tear down. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=49595697
samsung sm-p605 dead not starting, screen flickers
i am going to try removing the battery as u said.. lets see..
anyother ideas plz let me know..
but shld i do this quite often?? is this an known error of note???.. do we have this problem when complety drained????
samsung sm-p605 dead not starting, screen flickers
no luck.. i removed the battery from the board, then plugged in back after couple of minutes..
still in same state..
the screen flickers a lot.. is that normal when the note is completely drained..???
It is very bad for the battery to go completely down. I don't let it happen on my devices, so I cannot say if the flicker is normal.
My experience with the Nook was actually a friend's device. He had let it run down, and it was not charging. He left it on the charger for a few days, and it was still not showing a charge. He gave it to me to check out. I disconnected and reconnected the battery. It was probably half an hour or so, because I was interrupted. When I reconnected the battery, the Nook popped on and reported a full battery. Apparently it was charging but not registering anything, and the disconnect allowed things to reset.
If you do not any other ideas, I would suggest leaving on the charger overnight (or longer) and trying the disconnect again. Maybe leave it disconnected longer too.

I have the same exact issue right now! But mine is a refurbished unit. I tried the battery unplug, tried leaving it charging overnight, letting it discharge, flashing new roms, new kernels, etc. Nothing. THe only thing that did work a little bit was changing the kernel. Other than that, even flashing stock ODIN roms wasn't working.
When you charge yours, does it charge up to 75% but won't go any further? And does it take an extremely long time to get there? Because mine does. Reading about other devices that have the same issue, it seems to be the battery. But the other devices were phones. This is a tablet. The battery costs $65 :/

I know this is a very late reply and you have probably solved your problem by now, but for future readers with this problem:
I currently have the exact same problem, and just found out what it was. Either my charging cable (official Samsung cable) is faulty. I plugged it into another microUSB cable, and it is now charging again. No more battery symbol that doesn't have the spinning animation or flickering, and now it turns on.

Thanks for this information. Exactly this was the issue. Great!
Charging works and screen stops flickering with Samsung charger if you let it charge in Recovery mode. Mine is still charging as of now, so I don't have any news further yet, but it went from 0% -> 3% after around 30min.
Other than that, I only managed to get charging working with a Motorola's turbo charger.
So I woke up this morning to find my Tab drained. I plugged it in for half an hour, then when I picked it up I noticed there was no charging indicator (the green liquid battery thing). So I thought maybe I didn't plug it in right. I reattached everything, tested the charger on another device, then plugged it back into the tab for about 2 hours...still no juice. I tried powering on and doing the reset thing. still nothing. I brought it to a Samsung service center and they said I have a faulty motherboard. Now I'm wondering how the hell that happened when I've been using this device for about 6 months (only 6 months) without any issues, no overheating or strange reboots or anything, and now just like that I have a motherboard issue? The kicker here is that they're charging 75% of the tablet price to fix it! What gives?! I purchased it from a non-samsung mall store so they said I can't claim warranty. I popped the back off and did the battery pull thing and tried to charge - still nothing. Did I buy a device that decided it was a lemon after 6 months light-moderate use?
Anyone else have this happen? It's never been dropped or anything and I was on stock firmware with nothing but root.
In the UK, If your tablet goes faulty in 12months your guarantee is with the place you bought it from, not Samsung.
John.
It's ALIVE! I thought I'd get a 2nd opinion on my Tab since the guys at the Samsung service center popped it open anyway. Went to a generic phone repair store, all they did was hook it up to this box thing, and it came back to life! The guy said something got corrupted and just re flashed everything to stock rooted. He charged me less than $20 and I have a working Tab again. Obviously the very first thing I did with my resurrected device was to call Samsung's hotline and report how this one service center was trying to scam me into buying a motherboard that cost nearly as much as what I paid for the thing brand new.
Some li-poly battery have an protection circuit built in, if the voltage falls below a certain level say 2.5volts per cell, it disables the battery, if you connect an meter to the battery you will get 0volts , you need an li-ion charger that passes an higher voltage that resets the battery and allows it to work again, I wonder if this is what happened.
http://batteryuniversity.com/learn/article/low_voltage_cut_off
John.
Did they connect via USB or to the motherboard?
@tinderbox could be...must have over-drained itself for some reason.
@ashyx I couldn't really see what he was doing since his work table was obstructed by a bunch of stuff and he had his back towards me, I just saw him grab this small black box, then minutes later he showed me that the tab was already powering on though couldn't get past samsung logo, then he went ahead and flashed to stock.
Reason I ask is I wonder if he used a jtag box to ressurect it by reflashing the bootloader.
If he did there must be jtag points on the board as it can't usually be done via USB.
Pity you didn't ask what he actually did as I'm intrigued now.

Exactly the same or just similar?
yeah i think so... it had similar ports, though not sure about the outer shell of it... i think it was smooth all around with no ridges or anything, just a little black rectangular box.
Sorry to revive an old topic, but i thought i'd do an update instead of start a new one. Tab S died again and I'm now convinced it's over-discharge, as I left it at about 20% and forgot to plug it in before going to bed. Woke up with the tab drained, not responding to any button combinations, not charging with any of my chargers that tested ok with other devices.
Instead of bringing it back to the technician, I thought I'd try mcguyvering the damn thing. I opened up the back, pried the battery terminals up off the board, lifted the battery out, and with a spliced USB cord hooked up to a powerbank, I gave the battery terminals a direct zap, inserting the exposed USB wires into the battery terminals. This took some trial and error as, I didn't know which wire was supposed to go where, but finally I saw the powerbank leds blink, indicating it was discharging into something. I held the wires in place for about 5-10 minutes, noticing some heat on the battery by then. I reinstalled the battery back into the tablet, closed everything up and tried charging again and...hey presto! the tab started charging. :victory: Let it charge for 2 hours and powered on like nothing happened.

I don't recommend you defibrillate your device's battery unless you know exactly what you're doing and are fully aware of the risks. (I didn't know what I was doing at the time but I was so frustrated at that point I didn't mind if the battery blew up in my face.)
Mine just dead last night while CHARGING (turned off at 13%).....
And refused to turn on till now (still charging and both warm (charger + tab)...
I even plugged an ampere meter to really know if its drawing any or not (it is, at 5.2V 1.7A for 15mins)...
And still no luck

Samsung tablets only have issue with battery connectors. The white connector with 6 wires has loose connection, the black connector soldered to mainboard has cracked solder joints. New battery won't solve problem if you don't fix these two flaws. Resolder the battery connector will fix most of problems: not charging, reboot, flickering, auto shutdown.
I posted more details in the threat: flickering screen.
so the problem is Samdung's QC....
anyway no more somedung, I switched to Xiaomi Mi Mix, still preordering from China.....
You have to watch these chinies owened tablet and phone manufactues, they have been found to come with built in spyware, sending copys of all your texts ect back to china, it`s been in the news that last few day`s
Lenovo notebooks had a spyware app and Lenovo had to issue insturctions on hot to remove it once it was found.

That's OK, I can scan and remove all those spyware.
Still its better to have it properly supported with actual updates (older phone still got all UI + android update, hello MIUI 8).
Rather than using phone without proper software support....
Tab S - buggy and prolly the last MM update
Note 3 - useless LL update, very unstable, consider alpha
Note 8.0 - buggy last KK update, switched to CM13 and happy with it
