HTC One X will not turn on or charge - HTC One X

Somehow my HTC One X (tegra 3) phone must have bricked itself overnight. It will not turn on and when I connect the charger lead the light does not come on.
Since the phone is still under warranty I take it to Phones 4u, the guy there reckons that it is a battery fault (which makes sense to me, given the circumstances). Anyway that was all last week, today I get a phone call from P4U saying that it's going to cost me £125 to repair it because it is not under warranty. They are claiming that the phone has been opened before and the VOID sticker is damaged as is a load of the shielding tape inside the phone. This came as quite a shock to me since I bought the phone "new" from them last year and it has never been opened in the time that I have had it.
My theory is that the phone has a fault that is going to cost a lot to repair so Phones4U (Would it have been sent to HTC?) have either claimed that the phone has been damaged or they have damaged it so they can thieve some money from me.
Anyway, back to the point, has anyone else had this issue if so does anyone know how to resolve it (or if that's feasible)?

hi there! first of all i want to apologize as my english is not perfect.
now the story, i have this problem for 3 months now. nothing helps to permanently fix this. it started one day, my battery runned out while i was surfing internet, phone switched off as it does normally. i did put in on charger (original) but no charging light came on, i checked it after few hours but no light where there, phone was dead! i didnt worry to much and just left it there over night to charge, but in the morning i found that red light is still not on, not charged and completely dead. i did every method metioned on any forum- holding buttons, pulling sim out combination nothing helped!!!! my HOX is rooted with custom rom and latest HBOOT version. i were so dissapointed that my warranty is void. then i decided to take phone apart, take battery out and measure its voltage with multimeter, so i did that and battery was 3.18v. so i cut USB lead and charged battery up to around 3.8v that was wery tricky to do as HOX's battery have odd connector, after that i did put every thing together and phone turned ON, i did charge it normally to 100% which measures 4.2v in APP. calibrated battery by deleting batterystats.bin file. next day battery went flat, and exactly same thing happened again. it must be something wrong happening when phone swithing off by it self, it does not switching off completely that causing it not reacting to butttons. SO i think if i put in freezer for 10-15min it will kill the battery and cut power to phones PCB (eq = battery pull) because any button combo is not = battery pool. so i wrapped it in cling film to prevent condinsation and kept phone in freezer for 15min. do not attack me with commets like "cold temp killing LI-ion battery for ever" i dont care i dont want to hear any of these stuff i did what knowing that, cuz there is no real solution to this problem! it is sounds like crazy! i know! im am russian so im used to do crazy stuff ) after i took it from freezer my HOX felt like ice.. hooked up charger and WOALIA!!! red light started to blink = battery to low to swith on. after half an hour red light came on persistant and my phone swithed ON without problems. after few weeks i replaced battery with other one but no joy! still same thing, i used to do this for months because sometimes i wasnt able monitor battery and turn phone off manually before it reaches 1% charge. I did not experienced any battery life shortening (at least i didnt spot any serious life drops) I SUSPECT THIS IS SOFTWARE RELATED PROBLEM, SO PLEASE IF ANY DEVELOPER OR ANY ONE WHO IS KNOWS WHAT EXACTLY CAN CAUSE THIS, PLEASE LOOK AT THIS CASE. IT MIGHT BE A SOLUTION OTHER THAN MINE!! cuz in the end it sux putting ur phone to freezer

when u did my methot if it worked for you of coure.. you need APP from Playstore - LLAMA location profiles. in LLAMA app you can create action based on event. se lets make event BATTERY under x% and create action for that - POWER OFF PHONE! set delay for 2min so u can stop ongoing event once u on charger and ur battery is less set %. I did set it for 5% and 2 min delay just to be on safe side. once battery reaches 5% charge action is created after 2 min, and phone turns off. dont try to power it ON!!! if u did by accident, just turn it off once it booted! dont ask me for help using LLAMA it is not complicated as it looks, play aroud with charged battery, experiment. u can add additional actions like play sound + screen on+ vibrate+ power off. if that helped u press thanks button as this text took me whole hour to type
AND PLEASE SOMEONE SORT THIS! AS HTC ONE X' PCB NEED TO BE CUT FROM POWER TO RESET AND START CHARGING. I DO THAT BY DEPLEATING BATTERY CHARGE WHRE PCB CUTS OFF POWER. SUB-ZERO TEMP DOES THAT TO BATTERY, BUT WE NEED REAL SOLUTION!!

I am pleased that I haven't had to do this! I argued with Phones4U a little more and they have agreed to replace the device, I think that the repair job was far too expensive for them to justify doing it. Hopefully will have a shiny new One X (or One X+ if they have no stock) by the end of today!

could you please tell me how did you charge the battery?
My one X surfers from this, if it runs down to zero, it refuses to start, I've found leaving it on charge a few days and booting into the bootloader then doing a restart from there, boots the phone back up. Not great, but it works actually doing it now, it's been dead a few months, and I need a backup phone as I'm about to try cm10.2,4.3 on my note2,so the hox is getting charged.
I always suspected clockwork mod as I have a similar issue, with my note2, if my note runs to zero, the charger light doesn't show, but Does charge as once booted light returns and percent shows. Also my note won't boot with the power button alone, I have to bootloader then restart. That why I thought it was a clockwork issue, bit the above poster was on stock.
Anyhow is there any updates to this thread or anyone know of a solution?
i've sent the device to htc maintenance and they told me that i have to replace the board for 270$ !
POWER button and VOLUMES button all down at once did it for me!!!!!! It works
Hey Guys!!!!!!!! Freezer for 10-15mins? Not for me thanks. For days my phone won't charge or power on. So i went for the hard reset/reboot method ( POWER button and VOLUMES button all down at once) did it for me. When you reach the Reset/Reboot mode be very careful not to choose Factory Reset mode because you will erase everything out of your phone. Choose the reboot mode and the phone should restart. And when my phone started again it was 80% charged. Just can't work out why it went dead. But hey it's alive and kicking now. Remember ( POWER button and VOLUMES button all down at once) did it for me!!!!!! It works

[Q] Difficult to pin down power problem (hardware)

Hello everyone,
I've been trying to pin down a problem with my AT&T GS3 for the last few days and I can't really find anyone describing quite the same symptoms (or maybe I'm slow and missed something somewhere). The problem seems to be that my phone isn't recognizing the battery has a full charge more often than not. It started a few days ago and seems to have gotten worse, as in when I first noticed the problem my phone would still turn on for brief periods of time before failing to 'see' a charge > 0% and then dying. Right now, it just powers up ever so briefly- sometimes it'll just die after it says Samsung or briefly into the boot screen.
Today, I took it apart to inspect the motherboard and connections but I didn't see anything obvious like broken connections or burny, burny components, but idk, everything is small and I didn't have a microscope. I wish I had looked closer at the power IC chip and stuff like that but I'm blind and probably wouldn't have seen anything anyway unless it was super obvious.
Occasionally, instead of showing a sad empty battery when I power it on (plugged in), it'll show 100% like I would expect and it would get slightly further into the boot sequence before dying again and go back to showing empty and making me very sad and confused. I can almost swear this happens more often when I'm holding it a certain way or whatnot. One other thing I noticed is that when this first happened, my battery was about 32% and after a while of 'charging' it would show 86% when I got the 'correct' battery charge to display... next instance was 94%, then 99% and finally 100%... so I can only assume the battery is somehow charging but the phone just hasn't gotten the memo. I bought another battery (OEM) and tried to no avail, so I assume it's not the battery. I've tried multiple chargers and no luck there either.
So, has anyone ever seen anything like this? And if so, do you think it's the power IC, the capacitor in that circuit, or something else that I'm not thinking of entirely? I see that there's 4 battery pins/terminals/whatever and after internet'ing around a bit about phone batteries, it seems that 2 are the normal pos/neg (obvs), one is a thermistor for temperature, and one 'talks' to the phone to tell it all about the battery's voltage, charge, etc because the old way of indicating charge was kinda shoddy apparently. I'm definitely suspecting something to do with that last thing too, but I have no idea what part of the circuit that is.
Any sage wisdom here would be very, very appreciated and thank you in advance.
P.S.
I have some background working with electronics, but not electronics for ants, if that helps at all.
Done / Fixed
Never found out what was wrong with the motherboard but I did buy a GS3 w/ a broken screen off eBay to do the fix for cheap.
$100 (broken phone) - $65 (resale of parts) + unscrewing/rescrewing 10 tiny screws + detaching/reattaching some cute ribbon cables = phone worky worky
If you have an S3 or similarly easy to disassemble phone, I'd highly recommend doing some research and ebay scrounging before dropping a metric crapload of cash on a expensive repair or replacement.

HTC One X - Dead, no LED, no fastboot, nothing!

My friend gave me his HTC One X to fix (PJ46100) and he said it has been dead for months. After a few diagnostics, and about 30 mins on charge and 10 mins in my PC, it isn't connecting to the PC, I have no word from ADB, the phone itself has no LED light showing, no vibrations, nothing. My aim here is to get it on at LEAST in fastboot/recovery mode. I have never used a HTC One X but being addicted to my 4.3 Desire, I know how the usual HTC fastboot works. I know its power + volume down but is there any other way? I remember my Desire was Power + back button, EVEN though everyone online said it was Power + vol down.... Does the One X have another method?
My mate wants me to get his photos off it, and thats it, its mine
So yeah, any word on what it could be?
Doing loads of research, its a 70% chance of being a battery issue and a 30% chance of the board being dead.
I am not afraid of taking this baby apart so go ahead and ask your questions.
Thanks guys.
(BTW - I may be posting from another account in my replies....)
Hi there, I also have the same problem as yours. No led when charging, not detected by pc, its basically a paperweight. I also had done my research and I can conclude mine is a board issue since the problem occurred after transferring some files from pc and the battery is perfectly fine then. If you believe battery is the culprit, try put the phone in a sealed bag and put it in the freezer. It might bring the battery alive. I have took mine apart and I noticed that during charging, the board will be warm and same goes to the battery. This would suggest the phone is taking the current from the charger.
same problem here
I've revived dead phones where the only issue was that the battery had lost so much charge that it wouldn't charge via the phone's charging circuit e.g. Desire S and One V. Removing the battery and charging directly using another device solved it both times. Got to be worth a go. There's guides on removing/replacing the HOX battery on XDA. Just gotta go carefully!

Hi there dude.
I just replaced the battery, and yeah. Even without the charger, the board went warm for about 45 seconds. Charging does nothing, even with the new battery.
So I am guessing its the board.
Ouch.
This isn't even mine. My mate had this collecting dust since it broke about a year ago and he asked me to see if i fixed it.
His dad wanted some pictures off it, so I guess they are out of the picture (pun not intended, but eh.)
Anyway, do I buy ANY board or is there a special board for this model number?
eBay brings a few up when searching "HTC One X".
Cheers guys for the replies
I had tried charging the battery using the external charger and after connecting it to the board, it became warm and after few hours, it subside. I checked the battery and the voltage is 3v, the minimum discharge voltage. So i can say that the board suck the power and change it solely to heat. Is your htc one x tegra or snapdragon version?

HTC One M8 Battery Suddenly Dies, Randomly Shuts Off

Hello,
I bought a used T-Mobile HTC One M8 a couple of days ago off of eBay. While it's a cool phone, I've had a serious issue with the battery. When plugged in, the phone works fine. However, after being charged for several hours and removed from a power source, the battery will read 100%, slowly dying to around 96% or so with use, and then shut off randomly without warning only a few minutes after being taken off the charger. It won't give the normal "shutting down" message; instead, the battery will go from whatever percent it was to 0% and then the screen will go black.
From what I've seen online, the battery might be bad. s suggest that this problem results in an inflated battery. In this M8, I noticed that the left edge of the screen was almost separated from the metal bezel as if something was pushing it up from behind. This makes me think my battery might be bloated, causing the battery issue and pushing up the screen.
I have tried wiping the phone before flashing Lineage OS instead of the stock ROM, fully charging the battery up, and fully discharging the battery, but nothing so far has worked. Do you have any tricks I could try that might fix this if it is a software issue? Or does this seem like a bad battery that would have to be replaced?
If the battery is bad, the M8 doesn't make it easily removable, so I would either have to take the phone apart or send it in and possibly pay someone to replace it. The previous owner said it was working fine, but I have yet to hear his reply to my eBay message asking about the issue. He included all of the original packaging, including the original limited warranty. While the warranty is probably long expired and technically doesn't transfer over reselling a phone, do you think there is any chance that HTC or T-Mobile might be willing to fix the phone or send a different one?
Thank you for any help you can provide.

Flash t mobile RUU (software problems will slove with this ) . If the issue still there ,then it must be a hardware issue i.e faulty battery or some other.

The battery in my M8 is really weak now, and as of maybe 6-9 months ago the phone is not tracking the battery level well. When the phone is idle, it powers off at 20-30% indicated charge remaining, with games active, maybe it will power off at 45%. I get 1 hour PoGo from a _full_ charge.
Previously, I've experienced the phone getting hot when charging (mainly in the car) and this has probably had a serious impact on the battery capacity. Assuming the phone you have is over a year old, you should assume the battery is badly aged by now.
my adorable M8 in his third year of use recently has the same symptoms of @tshoulihane. Is necessary to say that I've took so much care in his first 2 years like disconnecting the battery after few minutes of reaching the 100% (also voiding to charge all the night) or turning off the phone at 10% and I never be waited for the auto turn off at 0%. All this that I'm telling you is in the first 2 years. In this third year of using the m8 as my main phone, I received this bad symptoms doing the opposite of the first years of care. Now I just connect powerbank or something at 30% to void awkwards sudden death of battery. Mmm I have plans to keep 1 year more my m8 with me, it still a beast in camera, sound and no lag, so I'm looking for a battery replacement im Amazon but the reviews are bad, I think is very difficult to get a good *new* battery because that replacements get old too with the years of storage... mmm I don't know but this was my little story with my battery experience with M8. Regards guys.

HTC 10 Won't Boot After Battery Calibration - Replace Battery?

So, I bought my HTC 10 sometime last week and I love it, I got the red 2PS6500 version. I have been excited to see people like Leedroid and Faygi working to make this phone so amazing. But I always had a rough battery experience.
At first, symptom was fast draining. It rarely got 3-4hrs SoT, but some days I had good battery life. More recently, I noticed that when using my camera around the 20-30% range, the phone would shut down, and I'd see that it was at 0%-1% and not booting.....
From my research here, this seems like I could try to re-calibrate my battery. I had it charge (powered off) for 2 minutes, then I held both volume buttons + power while still charging. I then let it go up to 100%. When I turned it on, the percent showed 70%. So while it was on, I let it go to 100%. After that, I unplugged it, and rebooted it. It went down to 70% again. I repeated the full charge to reboot. This time, I was 99%. I wanted to reboot once more, just to close the gap from 99% and 100%. USB connection is clean and good, cable works on other phones.
Then the phone just stopped working. It no longer boots up, no LED's, no vibration, buttons don't function no matter the combination. I tried connecting it to my PC and I get nothing recognized. Cannot get the screen on at all.
So I am guessing two things:
(1) Battery might have fired and the connection to the board is gone. I might have bought one that already had issues and this was the last leg of it.
(2) Motherboard damage from the battery? This is something I'm afraid of if I go and replace the battery and I still have issues with it not turning on.
I was hoping anyone with experience might be able to confirm anything I mentioned with the battery issue, and if replacing it solved that.
TL;DR, HTC 10 no longer powers on, shows no sign of life. Battery previously had calibration issues. Should I replace the battery, and then it will turn on, or could there be further damage. Most situations I found were from users that were still able to turn on their HTC 10.
I've replaced my battery recently. I had the same deal. I had to use the actual charger plugged in for a while and it eventually came on

Thank you for responding. My issue/question was more about "if" i replace the battery, will it solve my issue. I have not replaced it yet, and I ordered an OEM battery in hopes that should fix my issue. So hopefully a new battery will allow me to boot up my HTC 10 again.
At least I still have my HTC m8, and I'm replacing it's battery too (swelling and making the screen bulge). The community around the M8 is still strong and there is even the latest RR pie available too.
I gotcha. Sorry I have a terrible habit of skimming and then assuming. Mine was similar but not exact. I was always able to get it to show life after it was on charge for a while.
When I replaced the screen once, i forgot to unplug the battery from the board before I started. I got it all back together and it wouldn't turn on. It wouldn't show that it was charging. So I went in and unplugged the battery and plugged it back in. It acted after like it never happened.

I hope after I replace the battery, it finally boots up. I had to order a new heat blower because mine broke. I'm surprised after I charged it to 100%, it hard bricked and died. I have a feeling th battery was the culprit, since it was always bad at holding a charge....and even more oddly enough, using RR pie on my HTC M8 is FASTER than it was using RR pie on the HTC 10. That battery was very likely affecting my overall experience.

DEFINITELY. I hope nobody has the issue I am facing at the moment.
UPDATE
So I replaced the battery, was very easy to do with patience and the right tools.
AND, it did not fix my issue. As I opened the phone, I noticed stickers on the chips from a company that apparently did work on it prior to me buying it, and the work they did was bad. I think it is safe to say that the motherboard has suffered severe EDP damage, and it would not be worth the cost to fix it. Burnt pins near almost every chip.... It was so happy being a part of this awesome group, working on the HTC 10 and having Fagyi making the amazing Pie roms. I will be selling my HTC 10 for parts on Ebay if anyone is interested (1 new battery, 1 lcd screen in excellent condition, both cameras, charging ports. . . basically everything but the motherboard that is dead)
So, I am torn between three options. Since my HTC m8 is fixed (top third inch of touchscreen no longer works with tough), I can keep the HTC m8 until it dies and replace it's digitizer/LCD. I can buy another HTC 10 and hope it will not be a crappy one, or I can save and get the HTC u11 (that red color looks so nice!) or go for a Samsung Note 4. I've had the M8 for about 5 years now and it's running RR-P like a brand new phone. I am so sad my 10 just died like that. I was so spoiled with the HTC 10, it was the best phone I ever had. I'd love to have a new device with tons of potential for modding in the future.
Any recommendations then: any device will be modded like crazy, especially with RR or LOS
- keep M8 / replace LCD+Digitizer
- buy HTC 10
- buy HTC U11
- buy Note 4
