S20 Ultra Snapdragon gets warm when 100% - Samsung Galaxy S20 / S20+ / S20 Ultra Questions &

Hey guys, long time member but don't often post.
Bought myself an S20 Ultra Snapdragon (G988N), had it imported from Korea as there is no way I was getting the UK model with the Exynos chip.
Happy with it so far and I plan to root it in the future but for right now I have an issue with charging.
Charges fine but when at 100% the phone gets warm and stays that way until unplugged.
I'm not exactly an expert but it's almost like whatever system that regulates the power flow isn't backing off when at 100% so the battery starts to generate heat???
I've tried the supplied 25W charger and a 10w charger too, same results.
Any ideas?

[Q] Did I fry the battery?

Hi all, brand new but I've been a lurker of the Tmo s6 edge forums.
Anyway here's the predicament. I got my S6E yesterday set it up, used for the rest of the day with no qualms.
When I went to put it on the charger it was at 7%, i thought to myself, I'll use an Apple 5W charger for a slower charge throughout the night.
I figured the slower, low powered charge will be better for the battery.
As it was charging it stopped in the middle of the night at 20%. From there, the phone constantly went from Charging, not charing, charging, not charging; repeatedly until I woke up to discover it at 7:20AM. I plugged in the phone at 2:30AM. It must have been in this charging on/off loop since 2:45AM or so. The phone was pretty toasty. The screen was on and the phone kept making that noise when you connect/disconnect from the charger.
So my question. will 4ish hours of everything i just mentioned fry the battery?
Edit: By fry I mean significantly reduce the overall battery lifetime. The phone seems fully functional.
All that noise and you didn't wake up earlier?
No, I'm sure it'll be fine. I've used Blackberry and older, non-fastcharging Samsung chargers on mine.
Had the same issue on my S3, it's battery lasted four years (gave it to my brother as a gift).
If you really want to check what's happening, get a $5 USB current monitor plug in adapter on ebay. It shows what voltage it's outputting and the current. I noticed that my old AT&T Note 3 OEM charger's voltage was actually high at 6V or so. This is to charge the device faster, but it didn't work well with any other devices or even portable battery packs.

Charging speed

To power up, you consume Red Bull. But your phone just needs its adaptive fast charger. Rate this thread to express how quickly the Sony Xperia XA1 Ultra can charge. A higher rating indicates that it charges extremely fast.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
Charging speed if you look at it in how much time it takes
It is terrible..
Before I bought the phone I saw it takes from 2hours and 15minutes for some
And some reported about 2hours and 45minutes
For me with the original charger and the sony cable it took 3hours and 5minutes
Horrible
But if you dont look at the time..it is charging slow but it is not getting hot while charging...not even warm
ITS COLD
So this will be long term good for the battery lifespan..
Can not have it all can you LoOoL
The phone charges from dead in about 2 hours 15 minutes for me using a 2.1A USB outlet. I don't know if it's actually charging at 2.1A or not, but that's nothing for how long the battery lasts in the first place. It's also a high capacity battery, don't compare the charge time to something like an Alcatel One which has a 1300mAh battery. The XA1 Ultra has something like a 3600mAh battery.
The wall charging adapter they give you with the XA1 Ultra only charges at 1.5A. IMO they should have given us a 2.1A wall adapter instead. But faster charge times = less battery life so it's a trade-off. Most people won't keep the phone longer than a couple years anyways, so what does it really matter?

Yes, I do know that it reduces the lifetime of the battery
But the thing is.. it is in the spec of the phone written that it can be fastcharged
Not with the charger wich comes out of the box
But you need to buy fast charger
So I did that..
And it is not fast charging at all..
That is what is bothering me..
Why do you write something in the spec wich is not working
Or if it is only for china or taiwaniese devices thay MUST write that down
So that you do know your lets say europe device will not fast charge..
I could try it with and charger with higher output.. maybe that would work..
But just bought original from sony wich is not working..or the ability to fast charger
is not working
I googled a lot and I am not the only one..you could see everywhere even on
Sony forum people complain like me buying something that is not working
The best sony answer is...
''Do you use the right cable''
And yes we all use the cable wich is needed to use to fast charge..
But yeah.. paid for nothing

Fast adaptive charging for Tab S 8.4

Is this possible to integrate or hack the guts of out 8.4 Tab S?
Its the one thing that sucks about it. Slow charging times.
Or do you guys use a special charger that improves charging speeds??

Neither the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 or the Exynos 5420 Octa supports fast charging, And i doubt it can be added, Just charge your 8.4" overnight it should only take around 5hr for a full charge.

I wouldn't say my Tab S charges particularly slow. It's fine using the official charger and cable. A non official cable or one that is too long increases charging times.

As you have said poor quality or long cables can give slow charging rate, also non-compatible usb charger`s can slow charging down as well.
You can buy one of those usb power monitors to check your charge rate for like $5 or download one of the free software monitor on GP but i find them inaccurate.
My 10.5" charges at around 1.7amp, I have been using one of those magnetic charging cables it stops my microusb port getting worn-out and since my 10.5" is in an armoured case, the charging socket is quite hard to get to, and hard to see, the magnet pulls it in place anyway around.

The 8.4" only has an 4900mah battery charging at 1700ma, I would say around 3.5hrs the 10.5" has an 7900mah battery so it takes 4-5hrs at 1700ma
As the battery charge level reaches around 80% the charge rate will slowly drop from 1700ma to maybe 100ma at 99% that`s why it`s difficult to get accurate charge time, plus the cable quality and usb charge can play a bit role in charge times.
I recommend everybody gets an "usb charge meter", they start at around $5 and will accurately show how much power is being given to your tablet and allows you you weed out poor quality/faulty charge cables and power adaptors.
John.
2 hours for my t705, running modified stock, ( Fenris) .

Question Battery longevity

Hi Guys,
I recently purchased Poco f3 and with it's 33watt charging I am bit concerned about the longevity of the battery as it gets warm when charging. Can I use my samsung S10's 15W charger or can we get a custom rom which can charge the phone at 15W?

If you are planning to keep this phone for the next 2-3 years then using a slow charger makes sense. I use a 10watt charger on regular basis and use a fast charger as an exception. I think 10-18 should be fine for longevity. On a side note- I don't feel my phone gets warmer after 12.5 at fast charging.

Of course you can use it, the charging will be slower and the battery will thank you.

Question S21 FE, very slow charging both wired and wireless

Hi all!
I have a 2 weeks old S21 FE, and a brand new Samsung original 25W PD adapter + original USB-C to USB-C cable. I am very disappointed with the charging speed, both for wired and wireless charging. I have obviously enabled fast charge & fast wireless charge in settings. The cable, socket and so on is 100% fine. The phone's diagnosis tool reports that all is OK.
WIRED: At 27% battery, estimated 62 minutes left to fully charged. At 55% battery, estimated 45 minutes left to fully charged. At 87% battery, estimated 26 minutes left to fully charged.
WIRELESS, with a 15 W charger+same adapter/cable as above: At 13% battery, estimated 3 hours and 50 minutes(!!) left to fully charged. At 55% battery, estimated 2 hours left to fully charged. At 72% battery, estimated 73 minutes left to fully charged.
Is this really normal?
The Samsung chat person suggested:
1. Charge/discharge the phone 2-3 times after it's new, to "stabilize the battery". I guess I haven't fully charged/discharged (100%/0%) 2-3 times. However, I do not really believe it's gonna work.
2. Reset all settings. I'd rather not - as I will lose some hours of customizing-work. I do not believe this will do it, anyway.
3. "We have a fast charge adapter on the website, it's supposed to work very well". Obviously, and not surprisingly, the ***** haven't read what I wrote.
4. Activate Secure Mode and test again. Did it, doesn't have any effect.
5. And here it comes, the suggestion they really like you to try, but the one that you don't wanna try after customizing and downloading and getting stuff just as you want it: reset to factory settings!!! The favorite customer service way to "help". Obviously, I'd rather not.
So.... Any owners of this phone (or similar)? What's your charging experience? Does it "stabilize" after som charge/discharge?
Thank you so much, I appreciate it. Great phone, apart from charging speed....
Can confirm minutes for wired, same here. Samsung is not the best in case of charging speed
Put in airplane mode or turn off for better speed. Once phone is hot it stops charging completely, they have huge battery protection I guess. It may also limit the charging speed by default
Thank you. It seems strange though, because I have a Samsung A52 phone for work. It is a quite basic phone, but charges incredibly fast. I have tried the A52 supplied charger on the S21 FE, but still the same slow speed... The A52 charges 0-100 in much less than an hour, if I remember correctly.
Disappointed!
Not sure, if that helps, but you might check the app called AMPERE.
I will put the Google Play link below.
Every time I am troubleshooting the charging on any Android device I use this app.
It will basically tell you with what current is consumed by the device in real time.
My S21FE (SD888) can take max 3000 mAh (3 amps).
I would say it's not bad.
It gets anyways too hot to my opinion with the 3 amps , so I am charging only with max 1300 mAh ...
So install the Ampere app on the A52 and also on the S21 FE and let's see if the numbers will be the same with the same power-brick and cable or not ...

So I had a similiar problem here.. My issue was I got a 'moisture is detected in my port' message. Therefore my phone would stop charging.. when the error finally went away Fast/Super fast charging also stopped working.. I took my phone to a Samsung authorised service centre near me ( Closest Samsung was about 2 hrs away) They fixed my phone within 3 days. Replaced my port and the cable between the motherboard and charging block.
Now my phone works 100%
It might be the same issue maybe not. But maybe try different cables and chargers as well.
Otherwise take your phone in for repairs. It should be still under warranty and would cost you nothing.
It seems like the s21fe has a lot of dud phones it looks like

Can confirm this. However after my repair I got over 3000mAh charge.
Before the repair it only did 800mAh
Mine is also faulty. Battery life is terrible and charging became very slow.
Using samsung 25w sfc charger.
Sending it to repair tomorrow.
But i must note that in all cases you must try a factory reset. It can fix a lot of user issues as well as glitches. But in my case the problem is hardware based.

Yes, there is something wrong with this phone. Mine has severe overheating issues.
Try taking it out of the case, in case you use a case. Helps a lot with heat dissipation and this phone needs all the help you can give it during the summer.
