Fast adaptive charging for Tab S 8.4 - Galaxy Tab S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is this possible to integrate or hack the guts of out 8.4 Tab S?
Its the one thing that sucks about it. Slow charging times.
Or do you guys use a special charger that improves charging speeds??

Neither the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 or the Exynos 5420 Octa supports fast charging, And i doubt it can be added, Just charge your 8.4" overnight it should only take around 5hr for a full charge.

I wouldn't say my Tab S charges particularly slow. It's fine using the official charger and cable. A non official cable or one that is too long increases charging times.

As you have said poor quality or long cables can give slow charging rate, also non-compatible usb charger`s can slow charging down as well.
You can buy one of those usb power monitors to check your charge rate for like $5 or download one of the free software monitor on GP but i find them inaccurate.
My 10.5" charges at around 1.7amp, I have been using one of those magnetic charging cables it stops my microusb port getting worn-out and since my 10.5" is in an armoured case, the charging socket is quite hard to get to, and hard to see, the magnet pulls it in place anyway around.

5hrs ? Mine takes around 2ish hours fully charged.. 5 hours is way to long SM-T705 ?

The 8.4" only has an 4900mah battery charging at 1700ma, I would say around 3.5hrs the 10.5" has an 7900mah battery so it takes 4-5hrs at 1700ma
As the battery charge level reaches around 80% the charge rate will slowly drop from 1700ma to maybe 100ma at 99% that`s why it`s difficult to get accurate charge time, plus the cable quality and usb charge can play a bit role in charge times.
I recommend everybody gets an "usb charge meter", they start at around $5 and will accurately show how much power is being given to your tablet and allows you you weed out poor quality/faulty charge cables and power adaptors.
John.

2 hours for my t705, running modified stock, ( Fenris) .

How long does it take to charge z1c using usb on laptop?

Hi, it's taking a really long time to charge my z1 compact using the usb port on my laptop (macbook air 2010).
It's been an hour and i'm at 27%.
Is this normal?
Also, is quickcharge 2.0 enabled on our phones? Would it make usb charging from a laptop faster? (I think mine is just 0.5 A, whatever Apple gives you).
Not sure on laptops but on my PC I could charge it for 3 hours to 100%.... While on dock I could charge it like 50minutes and it's full. Quickcharge 2.0 works only on chargers with quickcharge 2.0 support. Hence it won't work on laptops. And it's alot more slower since laptops has lower current output on USB ports than usual outlet chargers.

i charge using the dock an it fully charged my Z1c at least 3 hours. how can u fully charged yours at 50 minutes only?
I guess it depends on what you plug the dock into. I haven't timed it but I'm pretty sure mine charges from about 40% to 100% in under an hour. I plug the dock into a usb power adapter.

Returning to the op's question, if I connect the phone to my macbook pro and then close the lid, the phone stops charging immediately. It charges just fine if I leave the lid open. I only tried it once overnight so I don't know how long it took to fully charge.

Model?
Charger suplied with my z1c is EP880.
About 2hrs20minutes from 5% to full battery.
And i think that is good, charging full battery in 50minutes isnt good for battery health.
Same as yours also... EP880. It says here output is 5.0VDC and 1500mAh. I'm pretty sure the battery is ok as it's holding a 2-3 day lifespan before I can drain it to lower 10%. Although I'm no power user. I mostly use the phone for texting and web surfing... The most battery hog usage I can do is reflashing ROMs in recovery which could deduct 1 to 4% of battery after reboot. Our electricity standards here are 220v of current.

Nice shot Riyal.
Same battery/charger/phone but 250% faster charging?
Thats a riddle for sure, laws of physics says that one of factors in equation must be different.
I suggest you to check yours battery in service centre.
2300mAh (healthy) battery can be charged with stronger charger in 50 minutes, ofcourse that isnt good for her longevity.
But with ours EP850 charger thats impossible, battery or electronics inside phone must be messed up.
Calculating with an output of 500mA from an USB 2.0 port, the charging time (0 -> 100%) will result in approximately 5hours. (Note that the battery is normally never at 0mAh)

Nah no need... I'm pretty sure battery is ok as whenever I charge it on my PC it's charging slow also like any other phones. So I think this is just really qualcomm's quickcharge 2.0 kicking in... Anyways I observed the phone. It's not heating up or whatever probably it's just because of the battery quality. It must be having good chemical reaction when charging hence less waste on energy.

Yours phone is .114 firmware also?
Well, something must be different, my phone and others are charging 2 or more hrs on EP880.
Found something interesting...
I have a energy monitor (http://www.elv.at/elv-energy-master-basic-energiekosten-messgeraet-1.html) between EP880 charger and the wall outlet.
If I use the usb cable EC801 (witch comes with Xperia Z1C) on my dk32 dock, the e-mon. shows about 7.5W energy consumption @~50% battery level !
If I use the usb cable EC450 (witch comes with my Xperia P) on my dk32 dock, the e-mon. shows about 5W energy consumtion @~50% battery level !
Conclusion: Phone charges much more faster with EC801 !
I like the older cable because its much more flexible then the new one - so that's the reason I used the old one and than I saw the differences on the measurement device....
FYI: Charging power is also depended on battery level -
Whats yours charging times (from 5-100%)?
Mine 2hrs-2hrs 20min.
I have EC-801 cable and DK31 dock with hims factory cable, same charging times on both.

Yes, thats it, 2hrs is minimum from 5-10% to full battery (with EP880 charger ofcourse).

Charging speed

To power up, you consume Red Bull. But your phone just needs its adaptive fast charger. Rate this thread to express how quickly the ZTE Axon 7 can charge. A higher rating indicates that it charges extremely fast.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
On Quick Charge, it's fast. On a older computer, it's painfully slow. In my car, on a standard charger, it's not too bad. I just bought a QC 3.0 charger for my car and it'll charge about 30% in my 35 minute drive home (have to test that some more).

I would double check the charger port and make sure your plugging into the QC 3.0 port, and not the 2.0A port (not sure if yours has one as well or not) my Axon 7 charges about 45-50% in my 25 minutes ride home so It doesnt sound like its charging quite as fast, unless its QC2.0

Have tried to push the battery as hard as I can while charging at the same time. The phone won't stall or drop charge thankfully. Gets a little hot but nothing like other phones I've owned (Nexus 6P would boil, OnePlus one would slowly drop battery until it died, iPhone 5s would get too hot to touch, HTC M7 would also become too hot to touch and unresponsive). If you're wondering if you can use this phone with GPS, Bluetooth, Wifi Hotspot, Data, Spotify while charging at the same time you can.
B27 A2017U, From 37% to 95% in 45 minutes. 5 minutes of screen and one 5 min call during charging. I won't use fast charge often because I don't need it, battery health is more important to me.
Charging speed is very fast. Battery life is great. I usually have ~20% left after running it from about 6AM to 11PM. I did misconnect the charger dongle one night, and so was at 11% starting the day. I switched to ultra power saving mode and was at 10% at the end of the day!?!
Charging speeds tbh are fairly decent. On QC 3.0 i get about 95% in about 1 hour. Nothing compared to Dash charge on the OP3, that method is insanely fast. To compare OP3's 3000 mah takes about 40~45 minutes to top off. Considering the additional 250maH on the Axon, i think the 1 hour approx charging time is good. I suppose once you get the taste of Dash charging, QC becomes less palatable
P.S. Axon's power saving mechanisms are actually quite good. No need for any 3rd party apps. I don't miss Greenify considering the background apps get killed when the screen goes off. So battery life being decent is a good trade off.
I've been impressed by the charging speed. It's close to the Moto X Pure that I loved.
I've personally never had a phone that had any type of quick charge until this phone, so I'm certainly impressed.
Hello
Question: is QC3 a killer of battery? Is charging at low amp better, or...? Cuz I read here and there that it's still better to use a slow speed charging device so that the battery doesn't heat up and doesn't wear off too fast.
What are your thoughts about that?

If you charge it before you sleep, I would use a charger with a lower am so it can prolong the battery's life. Using quick charge 3.0 is convenient, but it will certainly decrease the battery's life over a period of time.
Before bed: Not recommended to use another adapter to charge any phone that didn't come with it, but I would use a different adapter with a slower charging rate and voltage.
When you're about to go out or etc: Quick charge 3.0
Sent from my ZTE A2017U using XDA-Developers mobile app
I use the Aukey charger. I have 2 portable QC3 and one "traditional" QC3 also. And I forgot which brand but a good one as a slow speed charger.
I thought that QC3 was different than the "old" high speed charger because it had something to do directly with the SnapDragon. The "old" high speed chargers are just sending more amps like 2A or more, while QC3 is more "controlled" so it didn't affect the battery. Am I totally wrong?
Has anyone noticed their charging time increase by 10-20 minutes or so? Could be my imagination as I also have an op3 now..

Oh yes absolutely. I came from an OP3 to Axon. It's the only thing I miss about the OnePlus 3. And the ROM. And the front finger print scanner. And updates.
On a more serious note, Dash charge is really fantastic. As advertised. 3000 mAh takes 40 to 45 mins, but the most important feature is that it doesn't heat the phone up and using the OP3 while charging is a better experience.
Nice
I think QC3 is already pretty fast, so... Charging low speed when I'm not in a rush, following some (your?) advices here.
I had ordered a 1+3 and canceled when I saw the Axon7, but I had also a Dash Charger on the way and couldn't cancel that one. Too bad they're two different technologies
The 1+3T is... nice

Have you tried an new cable and charger, and check your charging port is clean.
Have you had any flickering on the screen, if so you might have a bad battery connection.

This has just started happening to me. Sometimes it gets so bad that it dies on the charger.
I have had my T800 2 years tomorrow and the battery is fine, I use an magnetic microusb adapter so no port wear.
How long have you guy`s had your S1 before you started having problem with the battery? also do you game or use any apps that eat the battery or get the tablet hot as that is really bad for the battery.

I wonder if the battery went flat while you were not using it, was it turned off or just in sleep/standby mode.

haha no its not the battery as i have already replaced it with a new battery and still the same. i think it was turned off.
so how long does it take you guys to fully charge your t800/t805 from 0 to 100% while the device is powered off?
From what i have read around 5 hours for the 10.5" for a full charge when in sleep mode, maybe a 4.5 hours when powered off.
But charging speed depends on an compatible charger and quality usb cable, full charge current is 1.75 amps according to my usb power meter on my T800

Have you tried more than one usb cable, as it make a BIG difference, like 0.5amp vs 1.7amp you can have the best charger in the world but if your cable is faulty or poor quality.
Your battery could be bad (how long have you had your tablet?), or your battery power connector could be loose/faulty(mostly 8.4" S1), or you microusb port could have become faulty.
Also if you use a third-party charger it has to talk to your tablet in an language it understand or you tablet will charge slowly, there are a number of different charger languages Samsung has a different one to Apple, or HTC that is why an Apple charger might only charge your Samsung tablet slowly.
I recommend everybody gets an "usb power meter/monitor" they only cost around $10 and it allows you to see straight away how much power you tablet is taking from you usb charger and some brands can trick you tablet into charging at full speed on an Apple charger, I bought an Belkin 2.4amp charger and it was only charging my T800 at 900ma, I changed a setting on my usb power meter and now my T800 is charging at 1750ma

Your tab will charge at full speed approx 1.75amp from 0% to 80% and then the charge rate will get lower and lower as it get`s closer to 100%
So the first 80% charges the fastest and then last 20% takes a lot longer.
EDIT: 80% of an 7900mah battery is 6320mah So it should take approx 4hrs to charge from 0% to 80% with an 10% charge efficiency
John.

Fast charging support?

Can i use my old moto turbo charger for fast charging ?
Which is 12v*1.5amps ..
Tried mine and no same charging speed
You can use it but it won't "fast charge". The Honor 7X isn't a "fast charge" device.
BUT (yes there is always a but), use the provided plug... it's a 2A output. It will charge a little bit faster with it than ith your 1.5A one.
Sadly no fast charging, takes me 3.5-4 hours to charge regardless of what charger I use.

In The United States of America BND-L24... You are looking at 2.5 hours max. from 0 to 100%.
I'm usually, 4 hours S.O.T. a day average and still @ 50+ %..... only once have I drained it in 2 long days.. but I pretty much watched a movie.. made a sandwich and it was @ 100% again.

Slow Charging Speed | Super fast charging not working

My S20+ exynos is charging slowly. Its taking around 1 hr 40 min - 2 hr to charge from 5 to 100. Super fast charging is turned on and when i plug in it states 1 hr 10 min to charge. This seems to be happening from last 4-5 charge cycles. Phone is on latest software(ATCT). Any ideas what to do.
For me it takes 1h5m mostly (15%-100%)
Maybe do you have bad USB cable?
Tapatalk - SM-G986B
If you are using a cable other than what came with the phone, that is usually the culprit.

How do i check the cable is faulty ? I tried a cable from my prev phone (Nexus 6P) it wasn't any different .

If you are using a cable other than what came with the phone, that is usually the culprit.

Bro I am facing the exact same issue on my galaxy S20 exynos. I think it is due to the April update installed, as I saw many comments regarding S20 ultras slow charging speed after the update. Anyways please let me know if you find a solution.

Maybe it's only recent or in certain regions? Either way it's clear it has some issues. I've noticed charging issues on ATCT myself
Funny... I've been thinking about *not* using the Samsung 25W charger that came with the phone and use an older sub-10W charger based on the idea that pumping huge current into the battery quickly prematurely shortens its life.
Plenty of articles talk about this.
The cynic in me thinks that manufacturers are pushing the convenience of warp/super/ultra/whatever fast charging knowing full well that users will F**K up their batteries at ever faster rates than before, thus creating a growing captive market for their latest mega-fast charging phones.
All my previous devices had replaceable batteries so I was less concerned with longevity, but having shelled out a not modest sum for the S20 (all my previous phones were superseded eBay items) I really want to get the longest life possible out of it.
I've got it plugged into an HP 1.5A USB charger and Accubattery thinks it should get from 35% to my target 80% in 1h16min, which I think is acceptable. I bought the fast travel charger and fast car charger at the same time, so I'll reserve these for "emergency" recharging and not use them by default.
Anyone else with similar thoughts?
It could be the April update. Mine says "Super fast charging" while I'm plugged into my 25W brick, BUT it only says "Cable charging" if I charge it through my laptop (USB-C) while previously it said "Fast charging". Has anybody experienced the same?

Bro I just found a solution. Not the best but it works. My phone heated like hell even when idle and of course while charging too which resulted in slow charging speed, so what I did is wrap a cold cotton cloth around it while charging to keep it cool, and boom 50% charged in 30 mins. Earlier it took 1 hour for 50% charge.
For the cold cloth, I wet a handkerchief and squeezed the water out, thus ensuring there is no water to deal any damage (although the phone is ip68 rated).
Of course this is not a permanent solution but it works.
Hope it helps :good:

I have the same problem and as pointed out by vanditsadaphale it is related with the temperature of the phone. Mine charges 30% in 30 minutes instead of 50% as advertised and always is > 35.0 degrees Celsius. Also a **** of battery life with screen on time at 5hrs after almost a day of use with 60 hz...
I have the same problem with my S20 snapdragon version ....
Before update:
Super charge and fast charge were fine with same cable and same charger (aftermarket one support 22watt charging)
After update:
With everything in BATTERY SETTING got ticked. It only charges at slowest speed.
Plugged into supercharging port - no response, no charging
Plugged into QC3.0 port - slow charging
