[Q] Problem update unlocked AT&T note 4

Hi,
I've just got an AT&T note 4 and it is sim - unlocked already, but i can not got the OTA update from the server, every time i clicked on the update it is always the latest but i know AT&T rolled out an update in December for Note 4, and i am still stucking in the factory build number. Can anyone help me

Do you have an AT&T sim inside the phone?

NIE is the latest version of the firmware. First check to see what version you're on.

No i don't, do we need an AT&T sim to update? Because i don't have one, and i'm out of the USA, so the sim is actually useless i guess

Oops! Yes, you're right.
Why the heck did i even say that?! Ive been on NK3 forever too! I went off memory though when I said that. Didn't look at my firmware version.

Yes, you need to be connected to the ATT network (have an ATT sim card) in order to receive updates.

So what if i'm out of US and i want to update my phone? Do i need to book a plane ticket and go all the way back there just to upgrade to lollipop :crying:, i don't know why AT&T do the restrict to their UNLOCKED phone

Honestly, I believe a plane trip is basically what you'd have to do. I'm just repeating what has been discussed in the following thread though:

The topic is completely unrelated to your issue, but the OP is having a similar issue. He is stuck on NIE (which is the firmware that came with the phone, unlike what I said earlier. NK3 came later) and he needs to update, but is using an unlocked n910a and isn't in the USA.

It is strange...I am using a AT&T Note 4 in pakistan on a local Mobile Network and still i got NK3 update...Now i am bit confused...

How do you expect the phone to run an AT&T update if you don't have an AT&T SIM installed to connect to the AT&T update servers? Unless I'm totally missing something here.

Man, at what condition you want to unlock a phone? , most of the time you don't want to use that network anymore or you want to bring it somewhere out of US, so you can use it with another mobile network. Either of the cases, you don't want to use AT&T anymore and now AT&T tell me that i must have AT&T sim and its network in order to update? The worst case is i moved to another country to live and my phone is stucking at stock version forever :crying:. This is common sense that a phone will fully function as an international Note 4 if i unlock it, which mean no restriction with AT&T anymore. So when i want to move out, i can continue to use it. Just like the Iphone, you can buy it from AT&T and when you unlock it will be an off-contract phone, you don't need AT&T network to update it. :fingers-crossed:

And an international version will work on att network.. you bought the phone from att, unfortunatly the industry doesnt work like you want it to (yet?). Your solution is to not buy a carrier branded phone and get the international version.

[Q] Unlock Note 4 to use on another carrier

Hey guys anyone have done this already and can recommend me a reputable source to by or unlock my At&T note 4? I want to pass it on to my dad to use on Metro PCS. Please any help appreciated, thanks.:good:

Uhm, no, it isn't?
I used imei-unlocker, which seems to be the lowest price of anything else I've seen. The code they sent worked fine for me. I used the 1-3 days option, so it took some time, but others who used the higher priced tier got their unlock code in 15 minutes or so.

From my experience you just need a Note 4 that came from a AT&T Corporate owned store. I run Cricket and haven't had to unlock my device, my wife's, or my brothers for them to work on Cricket.

This might be a dumb question. But when you unlock this way and use on a service like straight talk, do you still receive OTA updates?

No you will not. You need ATT Sim/Service to have it up to 5.01 or later if ATT release new OTA update

So, I can just borrow a buddy's SIM and I should be good to go?

I bought an unlock code on eBay for $20 I believe for my wife's att note 4 to use on t mobile. Worked like a charm.

Yup, As long as your buddy SIM is ATT and your phoen is ATT note 4 910A

ALso want to add I went with the ebay code and it was provided after a few days and worked perfectly.

N920A No OTA update for unlocked Model

Hi
I live in Pakistan and use a SG Note 5 At&t unlocked model, i was wondering if i can get the OTA Marshmallow update too.
Whenever i check for it in the software update option it says your current software is upto date.
I am on Build Number N920AUCU2AOJ1.

i believe you can't, the ota works only if you're using att sim card inside the US network, unless you sideload or flash the rom manually

The AT&T Sim card is required but I don't think you have to be in the US to get it. When I had a Note 4 back in March, I received an update while I was in Italy (I live in US).

You def. don't need to be in the US to get it. As the OTA will also deliver over wifi. I've not seen a phone require the carrier sim card in order to receive an OTA, but I suppose it is possible.

oh meaning you're using a roaming att sim card that's why it triggers the ota, in his case he lives in pakistan and i assume his using other carrier there, did you manage to download the update via 4g or wifi?

I'm on an AT&T family share plan in the US. While traveling abroad I had purchased a travel plans from AT&T. I was using data (roaming) in Italy when I got a notification of an update. The update required that I use wifi to download it so I did it that night in the hotel. Was a security update so it didn't take long.

Here read first two posts in this thread. It might help u get what u looking for. Pb2 to pe6 seems to me working best from side load of adb.

If you read the thread you'll realize it wasn't me that's looking for anything. I've been running MM for a month with no problems. My comments were simply stating that ota updates can be done outside of US as long as you had an AT&T Sim card.

It is true, you need to be both in the US and have a working SIM card to get the OTA. I am in the Caribbean on a short vacation and I have my SIM but it still won't let me grab the OTA. I am willing to bet it will update when I make it back to the US. Will update

Not true. AT&T Sim card is required but I've been traveling abroad and received updates outside the US. Simple as that. Even though you may not be physically in the AT&T network, the sim card is what links you back to AT&T.

Android 10 update in USA

My Tab S4 updated last night to Android 10.. Texas, USA.
Update took a long time to download, more than 30 minutes.
After it completed, it was unable to see any wifi networks, but fixed itself with a reboot.
No Dex on Pc.
Haven't played with anything else yet.

I had another wifi outage today - tablet was connected and sitting on my desk, came back a few hours later and it didn't see any wifi networks. Turned wifi off and back on, and saw them again & reconnected.

I have a Verizon galaxy tab s4, SM-T837V, and I can't get an answer from Verizon. Yes it is available, but the next tech says it is not. Samsung says it is available if you want to use a computer to load it or send them my tablet so it can be flushed. 10 day turn around not to mention the cost. Last night Verizon technician was useless. As most are.

I have the AT&T version as well but I am not getting the update. I do not have a sim card in mine. Do you have an active sim card in yours?

Question US Unlocked Z Fold3 on Firstnet

My unlocked US variant cannot be connected on firstnet. The att rep is telling me that even though my phone has band 14, that it's not "programed" to work like it would on att firmware. I've read online that some people, in the past (it's been years) have flashed their unlocked samsung with att firmware and that they have gotten everything to work, including volte and features like that. Can anyone elaborate if this is posible to make it work?

This is false. I use and purchased a Fold 3 on FirstNet.
I work IT for county government. It works just fine.

I flashed the U1 firmware to mine and it worked just fine. Have the black SIM too.

Figured what the rep told me was false. Their system won't take my imei for some reason

Sure, how do you think they can help? Supposedly there's a glitch on the system where they can't connect samsungs on firstnet. att has a work around but firstnet doesn't... U think they can help?
