Shouldn't it be Samsung?
UPDATE:
Many more users have confirmed that their phones come with a Sony sensor. You can also check for yourself which sensor you have using CIT information:
Settings//My device//All specs//Kernel version( tap 5 times fast)//Software version
You will see camera information.
s5kgm1 is Samsung isocell sensor
s5kgm2 also Samsung isocell sensor
IMX582 Sony sensor
Do not use third party apps such as Aida64, Device info HW... because they do not provide credible information.
Only the kernel knows the exact type of sensor in the phone.
You can also take a screenshot and hang it here
I don't know the difference spec based on variants or country. I got samsung sensor on back camera in 3/32 variant (manufactured in Indonesia)
This is Redmi Note 8, 4/128GB Global version. I got EU charger inside the box.I was just convinced it was samsung, maybe it’s better because it’s sony.
here we go again, classic xiaomi with their random camera parts, which will complicate the developer because of the different camera drivers
Mine is an earlier batch with s5kgm1, I'm guessing that they are changing sensors due to supply issues.
Maybe it's the same case as with redmi note 4x.
He had three types of sensors:
-Sony
-Samsung
-Omnivision
We have another sensor vendor in addition to the three: GalaxyCore (gc02m1 and gc2375h)
edit: also SK hynix (hi259)
sensor types can be found in /vendor/etc/camera
Mine is samsung isocell
My friend bought this phone today too, his model is 4/64GB (Global version) also Samsung sensors.
New redmi devices only have samsung sensor
I don't think Sony sensors are used because it's more expensive. Some of them use Sony lenses (glass). Does it still look the same after system updates?
I use MIUI Global 11.0.9.0 stable build. Android version is 9.0. (Locked bootloader)
The CIT information is very accurate, at least that's how it has been so far I don't believe it's a mistake this time either.
But there is always the possibility of such a thing but here it is clear IMX582, this sensor was also used in MI A3.
Here is a full list of devices:
https://www.kimovil.com/en/list-smartphones-by-lens-model/sony-imx582-exmor-rs
I also got a Redmi Note 8t with Sony IMX582 camera sensor.

What are you saying?
I have this 8T same spec as yours, and has a Samsung sensor!!!
You should look under Board ID which version it is. Newer version, v.19 have that Sony sensor, earlier version, v.18, as mine, are equipped with a stupid Samsung gm1 sensor, other users are reporting a Samsung gm2 sensors on their devices. It has something to do with build location it seems and supplies...
But, God, I hate so much this Samsung sensors... so angry...
If you look carefully at the picture from zurik you will see that even the panel is not tianma it's Shenchao panel.
Using xiaomi since 2013 i realized it is always a lottery when shopping them you can never know what you are getting until you buy.

Don't trust too much AIDA64. The info with Samsung sensor is old (as newer 8Ts has Sony sensor too xD ).

We have a live image of Xiaomi Redmi 2s, that too in comparison with it’s successor Redmi 1s. This is the only live image that has been leaked/spotted of Xiaomi Redmi 2s. And by the first impression, the phone looks so much better than what we seen in the TENAA listing.
I’m really excited for Xiaomi’s January event. We have seen some rumors about that event, including Xiaomi Arch (smartphone with dual curved displays), Redmi Note 2 and Mi 4S. And of course the successor to the intensely popular Xiaomi Redmi 1s.
From the first look itself, the device looks awesome and it does bring in the much needed refreshment to the design on Redmi 1S. We can say that the device reminds of Mi 4 (apart from the bezels), particularly because the capacitive buttons have changed to Mi 4
The specifications include the new 64 bit Snapdragon 410 MSM8916 processor, 1 GB RAM, 4.7 inch screen (720p), 8MP primary camera, 2MP secondary, 2200 mAh battery and comes pre-loaded with MIUI v6.
GSMArena reported earlier about the Redmi 2S in the TENAA listing, from which we do have a complete list of specifications and a small preview of the device. But this is the first time ever we are having live pics of Xiaomi Redmi 2S pictured in comparison with it’s predecessor Xiaomi Redmi 1s. And it looks exactly the same as the Redmi 2S TENAA listing that we have seen leaked before.

This is Redmi 1s forum. When redmi 2 will arrived and IF it will have the same success will be another forum. But Yureka have MUCH better specification than 2nd.
Chinese big brand, Xiaomi has leaked its news gradually now about the next flash ship, Xiaomi MI5. We have seen much rumors about this high-end smartphone. But it still didn’t release it. Now i have heard the latest news that it will arrive in Feb, 2016. I was so excited about it.
The Mi 5 will reportedly be the first Snapdragon 820 phone to launch in the world; .Another leak that has to do with this very phone is an alleged leak that depicts thin bezels. Now, it isn’t really going to be a surprise to have a 2016 phone with slim bezels, but getting a glimpse of that in 2015 doesn’t hurt. So have at it below:
As for other specs, Xiaomi mi5 will have 5.2inch display, RAM 4GB/3GB version, laser auto focus rear camera (16-21 mega-pixel), and a battery of around 3500mAh in capacity and non-removable in nature.

Dedicated slot for extended memory
From what I see it has dedicated slot for extended memory as well as dual SIM. Redmi 3 is a great phone but you have to chose between extended memory or second SIM so that counts me out.
We all know that our beloved realme 2 pro has a 16 mp rear shooter. However i have tested with multiple other camera apps and found that it is actually 20.1 mp omg. Developers should have a look at it. Its very strange that realme chose not to set 20.1 mp as the default resolution when it has such a good camera.

Don't rely on these type of apps. What resolution does-its the printable size in simple words, doesn't affect in picture quality. Its totally software level issue. You can build an app that can even produce a 64mp image in your 8/16mp cameraphone. See the product specification of Sony IMX398 sensor in their official page or wiki. Its capable to capture only 16.1 mp. So, don't trust any 3rd party app. Maybe there are some kind of bugs for which its creating this type of confusion.
Same case with CPU Identifier Pro
Haha apparently you're believing in the wrong app dude.

Can someone with the Redmi Note 8 verify that the phone supports dual-frequency GNSS?
Dual-frequency GNSS means that the phone can get really good positioning (down to 30 centimeters).
GPS (US), GLONASS (RU), Galileo (EU), etc all can be used with a dual-frequency GNSS phone for better accuracy.
To figure out whether the Redmi Note 8 really does support GNSS,
Install GPSTest (Play Store), or GPSTest (Fdroid).
Run GPSTest and let the phone get a location fix.
Post a screenshot like the following. This screenshot is NOT from a Redmi Note 8 phone. Look at the Carrier Frequency (CF) column. We need to see either L5 (GPS) or E5 (Galileo) to be use that the phone really has a dual-frequency GNSS chipset. Most phones have a single-frequency GNSS chipset.
If the Redmi Note 8 does indeed supports dual-frequency GNSS, then we can add to the list of Android devices with dual-frequency GNSS.

Hi!
Thanks for taking the screenshot. Here is the direct image of your URL. It shows many satellites, including Galileo. However, it does not show any L5 or E5 frequencies, which either means that the phone did not get a chance to get a fix on L5 or E5 frequencies, or that it does not support dual frequencies for GNSS.
Another way to verify whether the phone actually supports dual-frequency GNSS, is to find a good teardown article that shows photos of all chipsets in the phone.
i will be able to test a Redmi note 8T later this week when it arrives too.
update: Note 8T.
Thanks for testing!
Then the Redmi Note 8 or 8T do not support dual-frequency GNSS. Emphasis on the dual-frequency.
I know this is an old thread, but now my Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro does show all 4 global systems. See the attached screenshot. And that's not the only ones visible to my phone; the list continues. I don't see much point in adding more.
hot.
