Hi,
I have this issue with my note10+ Secure Folder.
I tried several VPN apps in the Secure Folder, but none seems to be able to connect to their servers.
In other words, These VPN apps work fine outside the Secure Folder but when I run them outside, they do not affect the Secure Folder apps, and When I install them in the Secure Folder, they do not connect!!!
Can anyone help me with this issue?
Thank you.
I use adguard, which creates a vpn to block ads, and it works fine inside secure folder, but, I had to install another instance of it, besides the one working outside
Not sure if this helps, but make sure your using only one VPN connection at a time whether inside or outside of secure folder. In this case i would imagine in order to run the VPN inside secure folder you would need to install a second instance of the VPN app in secure folder..
If you try running a VPN connection when one is already running it won't work.

Has anyone whipped up a native filecopy app that can copy files to and from a Windows Phone 7 retail device to/from any directory?
TouchXplorer for HTC phones does something like this. My Webserver will let you copy some files on/off the phone, but there are limitations.

Without using HTCs COM DLLs, and without hacking apart the security mechanisms, I don't think this will be possible.
Unsigned COM DLLs can't get full filesystem access (I'm fairly sure you can only access the \Windows dir). Using an idea like davuxs webserver, you could in theory get any file you can get read access to onto a desktop, but that still limits you to \Windows.
Either, the entire security mechanism needs to be altered to our needs (like the way you can patch all certificate checks out of WM6.5 with an alteration to the XIP) or someone needs to "accidentally" find access to the right certificate.
It was worth a shot. With so many threads discussing progress in gaining access to the file system I wasn't clear where the security boundaries were.
I'm on a Samsung Focus (i917) which is popular in the US and while FileBrowser.exe is accessible, its very limited in functionality.
Plus I'm not sure anyone has figured out yet how to copy files between the desktop and device over USB.
Ideally at soem point there would be a way to not only explore the entire file system but also be able to copy programs to the device and be able to execute and run/install those native apps.

I think (I'm digging through it now) that the MS developer tools would let us do a file transfer over USB (I've got XAP deployment, but there's a function for that, but it uses some lower level things internally).
But that doesn't give on device file system access, and is using MS frameworks entirely.
Hi everyone, I'm having a real problem when connecting my LTE GNexus to the computer. I wanted to copy the TitaniumBackup folder to my desktop then replace it with the one I copied over from my old Droid Incredible, but when I look at the TitaniumBackup folder on the internal storage of my Nexus, it shows as empty, containing zero files. This is impossible, as I've done a backup already and even checked with ES File Explorer that all of the backup files ARE in fact present within the folder. However, the folder appears as empty on my PC and when I copy it, only copies an empty folder.
Furthermore, I then deleted the ENTIRE TitaniumBackup folder via ES, and the computer then showed the folder was gone (so it it's not like it's not reacting to changes made). I then redid the backup, which recreated and populated a new TitaniumBackup folder, but when I plugged it back in to my PC, the new folder didn't even SHOW UP. So now I have an entire folder that for some reason is completely invisible to the PC.
I don't know if this an issue caused by the Nexus or ICS specifically, the MTP protocol it uses to connect (instead of USB mass storage), or maybe even Titanium Backup. All other folders appear to be visible and the files inside are present (to my knowledge). What in the world is going on?!
PS: Please don't just give me a workaround for the current situation like "just upload it to Dropbox". I need to know how to fix this bigger issue for future use. Though if someone could recommend to me a way to upload whole folders to the cloud somewhere (Dropbox, Gmail, anything that allows me to pull it down via a PC) that would obviously be appreciated, as every app seems to only want to upload individual files, even the new DB. THANK YOU!
Hi,
I just had the same issue with the TitaniumBackup folder not showing up in windows explorer after the first backup.
Restart of the phone helped!
Cheers
Simon
its MTP, this has been bugging me too, but for now i got a workaround (i know...)
get SDrescan, its free. it will force your phones media storage to rescan your files. once you do, you'll see your files appear in the explorer. rebooting your phone also triggers this
Thanks everyone! Man, MTP sucks...

SDRescan did not work for me. Sits there forever saying "preparing" (I did let it sit for 30 min).
So, is there any solution for that?
Missing many files/folders on MTP.
This is really ****ting me up the [email protected] wall. I've trie everything, even sdrescan does **** all. Why does this issue exist and why the **** has't it been fixed
Using wifi, I've worked around it by using some of the features in AirDroid (sets up a web server on your GNex and you can login via a web interface on your PC). File Expert can also talk to windows shares on the same wifi network, I've used this to move around some large files as well.
I'm also having this issue, I've already tried fix permissions in recovery, did a symlink (not sure if I did it correct though) and now I'm trying sdrescan.
I'm thinking of going back to cyanogenmod backing up my entire sdcard to pc flash jelly bean and put back every file...
Cause pictures I've taken with Jelly bean are showing up in the gallery and via usb, so i'm guessing copying everything back to it will do the trick.
Most annoying thing is I can flash a new rom whenever and where ever I want and be able to fix my issues, but this sdcard thing is way out of my league...
I find a solution here :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=28606823&postcount=21
Hope it fixed the problem, I had exactly the same one
Easy workaround : in the app X-plore file manager, long-press on your TitaniumBackup folder, choose "Create Zip", then Ok (doesnt matter where you put the zip, you will cancel/delete it soon)
Voilà! My files appeared instantly in Windows as soon as X-Plore started creating the zip file. So, cancel that dialog, and enjoy your titanium backup files.

Restart phone as previously stated. Worked for me too. :good:
Reboot didn't worked for me.
I tried through ES File Explorer to copy the Titanium folder in my computer via LAN.When it started copying files, then the folder magically showed its content. Then transferred via MTP as it's a lot faster than 802.11g.
Hope someone finds it helpful.
Hi folks, I've never tried editing anything in WindowsApps under Windows RT 8.0 but now when I use version 8.1 I feel like playing with modern apps. From what I read in Windows 8 it was(is?) possible to fully access it by taking ownership of that folder. I did the same, changed owner from trustedinstaller to my user account and while under permissions it looks like my user has full access to all files I still can't edit anything, only read, execute and delete, no write. Is it possible to edit anything in WindowsApps under RT 8.1 or was it blocked since RT 8.0 or in both Windows RT and 8 and I just misread something?
Taking ownership allows you to edit the permissions. Editing the permissions enables adding the Write (or Full Control) permissions.

"under permissions it looks like my user has full access" - I've enabled full contol already and still I can't write anything, that's why I made this thread, to ask if it's possible at all.
Did you enable it for subfolders, etc.? Can you create a new folder directly under WindowsApps? Have you applied the permissions change yet?

Yep, I've enabled it for subfolders, gave full access to all users, unticked read only flags, changed owner... i've tried everything I could. And yes, I can create a new folder directly in windowsapps but not in applications subfolders where I can't perform any modifications except deleting.
I'm not currently using RT 8.1, but something is off, here. You're sure you have privileges on the subfolders (individual app folders), not just the WindowsApps folder? Each one has their own permissions.

Yes, I'm 100% sure that I have full control set for all subfolders. Strange thing is that I tried some random files in random app folders and some files are writeable and some are not, even in one folder. I think that MS did it on purpose to prevent users from modifying/cracking apps. All I wanted to do was to edit one xml file in Asphalt 7 folder to enable some graphical enhancements that are disabled for Windows RT and are stored in this xml as presets but no matter what I do I can't edit this file and believe me, I tried everything.
There are things I'm sure you could do - for example, opening a file or folder with FILE_FLAG_BACKUP_SEMANTICS lets you completely bypass ACLs, assuming you have the SE_BACKUP permissions (Administrators and other members of the "Backup Operators" security group).
One other possibility, that in fact sounds quite likely from your description: are you sure that the apps aren't *running* in the background? 8.1 makes apps suspend, not close, by default even if you do the swipe-to-bottom-of-screen gesture. Obviously, if the files are locked, you won't be able to edit them. That should give you a different error, but you never actually said what error you're getting.

I know that apps are tombstoned in 8.1 so you can fast resume like in WP and to fully close you need to swipe to bottom and hold unless tile flips but that's not the case as I tried that on fully closed apps. And the error is just typical "you need permission to perform this action". It looks like things are locked and impossible to access without some special trickery. So that's why in modern apps many crucial files like licenses or in-app purchase settings are stored in human readable files like xml, if there is no way to edit it, why encrypt? Either article that stated that you can gain full access to windowsapps wasn't exactly accurate or something has changed in 8.1, I don't have 8.0 so can't check.
I'm running into this issue as well in 8.1, and I had no issues in 8.0.
Anyone made progress? I have tried right after a reboot, without opening any apps (this is a store app), so the app shouldn't be running or in use.
I can confirm this. Even with full permissions I get "More permissions are needed to perform this action" when I try to create a new file. I can delete (move to trash) files just fine though, can't edit anything. Will investigate further later.
P.S. C:\Program Files>icacls windowsapps /t /c /q /reset seems to fix issues if your metro apps stop starting ?
This worked with windows 8

I'm running into the exact same problem, in Windows 8 I could write and edit files in the Windowsapps folder without any hassle (obviously with the correct permissions set), in Windows 8.1 this is not possible. Guess Microsoft toughened up the protection in this particular folder after the WSService Tokens Extractor was being used for turning trial apps into full versions
The apps are protected but if you make an new folder and move the files and rename you have full control hover for the apps to run need the unknown account which execute the program
Hi there !
Is there a way to do this ?
I currently use ES file sharing but he always copy the files to the host before opening it up (this kill the purpose for me, because i keep all centralized for backup).
I tried using busybox and mount manager but i cant load the modules ! (yes the tablet is rooted).
Thanks for the help.
I've used 2 apps for this
As long as you are rooted you can use either 'SambaDroid' or 'Samba Filesharing', downloadable from Play store for free, to make available both your /storage/sdcard0 (Internal) and /storage/extSdCard (External) as mount dirs.
I used both and in fact can't remember which one I found seemed faster but speed more likely pertains to the hardware and network conn. each device is using.
But what i need its exactly the opposite. I need to mount SMB shares on my server on my tablet !

Maybe XBMC/Kodi? For video, pictures and music....Does a great job of playing movies from my NAS!
Problem is, some programs (like Poweramp) cant work with streaming.
So i need to mount a smb share to make the program see it as a local folder

I have used ES File explorer to both send and receive files to and from the tablet. Maybe if you elaborated on what your need is we could better guide you to the correct software.
Thanks

I just want to mount a smb share on the tablet.
So the tablet see it as a local folder.

ES File explorer will do just fine. It will not let you access the share from your other apps but if you want to access a file and use an app to open it that will work. If you looking to map shares to your device your better to learn how to use a VPN first. If you map a location and don't have access to it you might get unwanted consequences. If you have a VPN setup first you will have access to these shares away from home and won't have to worry about that as long as you have a signal. VPN means Virtual Private Network. Some routers have this built in but if you want a really nice one check out PfSense. That has many options and will work by adding a second network card to an old computer. Hope this helps a little but without knowing exactly what your looking to do I couldn't think of a better answer.
DrClaw
Just did it !
Thanks to Skyhigh and UpInTheAir i manage to sucessfully mount in the 1.9 version.
Now Poweramp and all other program function normally. Did with CIFS manager
Thanks for the help guys
Does anyone know if applications inside samsung secure folder get updated... automatically or manually? Couldn't find any information in samsung user guides.

Im sure they were updated automatically because I usually get samsung secure notifications. When I open the secure folder with my biometrics, the notification shows that my apps are updating
