Screen flashing after update - Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 Questions & Answers

I got the OTA update this morning. Tablet then asked my PIN for encryption with no problem, then after that the only response is messed-up flashing colored lines on the screen. Any suggestions? Fully stock, not rooted, should be just a basic update. North America wifi only version.

Solved itself. If you have this, just give the tablet an hour. It looks like this update takes a long time to apply and leaves the tablet in a strange mood while it is working. When I checked mine after 30 minutes is when it would only flash at me. 30 minutes later is started up normally.

New radio update question

So I just flashed the radio update and i rebooted then it went back to the reboot screen it says its formatting cache at the bottom. Should i wait till thats done or just reboot now. For what its worth I just flashed the new evovled rom R3charged.... its been sitting on this screen for like 40 min now. I can go up/down on the recovery menu thats why i asked should i just try to reboot.
Yeah, you can reboot now. The first time I flashed radios, I did the same thing, stared at that screen for like 20 minutes, wondering....

Funny you mention this. AR 2.3 always sits there saying "formatting cache" even though its done when you do a radio flash. I too waited longer than normal and finally just rebooted via AR. All was well. I'm not sure why it does this.
SO, about this radio update, I came into this late, not realizing there were new radios, sorry if I missed a few things.
1, are you guys not rolling PRI back to 1.77 anymore?
2, what's with the Profile update people have reported?? is this across the board, a problem or just random? And I never heard of a Data Profile, Reset. WTH is that?

thx i got tired of waiting after about an hour and took a chance and rebooted so everything worked out. I was nervous for a lil while watching the formatting cache screen lol
Yeah, when you know that it could brick your phone, it's nerve wracking
Swyped From The Hippest Phone Using XDA Premium
Installed via clockworkmod . . .
I just installed the combo file via clockworkmod recovery. Everything went well, so I thought I'd document my experience to keep anyone from having a heart attack while waiting to find out whether or not they just bricked their phone.
The initial flash took about 2 seconds to complete.
After rebooting, I got the icon of the open box with a yellow arrow coming out and pointing at the Android robot. That lasted for about 60 seconds, then the standard htc EVO 4G splash screen popped up.
That was then followed by a similar box-arrow-Android screen with a progress bar along the bottom, which lasted for about 30 seconds.
Finally, the standard splash screen appeared again, which held for about 60 seconds, then my ROM loaded just fine, although it took about 2 minutes to do so.
Not exactly scientific, but I also documented a speed increase after updating. A speed test from 3 weeks ago had me at 1131/82kbps. Just now, I got 1567/115kbps. I probably should have done the test _before_ updating to have a better comparison, but this is what I've got.
Last time there was a radio update, there was pc36img version, with all 4 updates in it. You could see it loading all three in Hboot. This time, I can only fined the radio itself, so I guess I need to do it in recovery, which freaks me out.
BTW, how is everything? Any noticeable differences?

Flashed all of the new updates, even though I had the only thing that was needed updating was the radio. Reprovisioned data, and I have to say: the previous radio, I got very little cell standby drain. This new radio, even lower drain.
Signal seems to hold better too. Speeds seem equivalent, have not run a speed test yet.

G4 Bootloop

Hi Guys,
i am really confused and a little bit angry. The Following happened to me today:
My Phone (Unrooted, Locked BL) was behaving weird this morning.
It just randomly crashed and wouldn't boot up.
Eventually i got it to boot once or twice, but still it crashed, shut down and Bootloop.
A Reqular Factory Reset did nothing. now i'm trying to install the Regular KDZ-File for the H815, but things are just not working as expected.
Has anyone else had this problem before?
Is it normal that the LG Flash Tool is on 1% for over 5 Minutes and nothing changes on the Phone screen?
I want to know what has broken my phone so bad, cause this time, I just used it the way it was supposed to be used, no hard drops, no rooting, no changing of software in any means.
First LG Phone and it broke with no warning and no explenation. I'm a little disappointed right now.

The same happened to mine. Are you able to get to download mode by powering off your phone and plugging it into your computer? Im able to flash stock ROMs but nothing helps. The phone reboots by itself at random times and makes it into the operating system a few times but is never usable.

Hey,
yes i can get into download mode.
I am able to flash files, but the phone wont boot up anymore.
I just want to save my data, but i guess i wont be able to do so.
So i have to get to the store and get a new g4
Luckily i made a backup of my two weeks ago, so not much will be lost.
I also send an email to the LG customer Service, will post their reply here too.
I am really disappointed by LG at this point, i usually had motorola phones and they didn't have random errors like this one.
I switched to LG, cause G4 sounded awesome, but this error is making me sad.
I am really thinking that i won't buy another LG Product, which is making me sad too, cause usually most things made by them are great.

//==============First Request by me:======================
Hello dear LG-Service Team,
i just bought the premium product LG-G4.
Since some days, the Phone is beginning to hang and reboot, resulting in a bootloop.
Sometimes the phone boots, than optimizing Android for about 30 minutes (100+ Apps installed). After this happened, i kann use it again, but not fully.
To shortcut eventual questions:
The Phone is in factory State, no Custom Rom installed. The bootloader is locked and the Phone has not been rooted.
The mistake seems to come from your firmware.
I am really disappointed, because i paid a lot of money and no have a product which is barely usable.
I switched to LG because of the G4 and i don't want to regret this decision.
Kind regards

Email and response, translated by me, so there might be some mistakes...
I don't like the response, it feels like not being taken seriously.
Well, nevertheless, i will go to the retailer and will see what happens.
I will keep you updated.
What do you think of this response?
Greetz Esok
That response is terrible lol. I called in and they said they do not support my phone because it is an international version. So there was nothing they could do for me.
I have a similiar issue, but mine was due to a OTA update, and I didn't know about the download mode until now.
Thanks.
Any tips when I can get into the download mode? I just wanna recover my personal data (images, and texts)? Flashing STOCK image would preserve the personal data right?
While your phone is off, plug it into your computer while holding volume up. If you are using LG flash tool to flash a .KDZ firmware file, you will come across an option that says Normal flash or CSE Flash. Normal flash will not wipe data, while CSE Flash will. I have flashed stock images and it didn't work. Hopefully it works for you though.

+1 I'm in same boat and exact same issue with my H815. I love the device but this is unacceptable.
I'm having the same problem, it just happened to me all of a sudden and now I can't even get to the boot animation. I've been able to get into recovery 2 or 3 times but usually it just restarts before it even gets there. I recently updated to the newest xposed framework (though I've restarted just fine a few times after I installed it), did anyone else here do the same?
When I get home from work I'm going to keep attempting to fix it, I've flashed my current TOT but it failed after rebooting. I don't know if I'm having the same problem as everyone else but I'll update if I can find a solution.
same issue here on the at&t 810. Starting about 3 days ago I started getting random reboots + bootloops. Sometimes it would boot to the LG logo and stick, sometimes to the AT&T logo and stick, sometimes to the OS and freeze after the lock screen appeared. I can get into the OS and use it for awhile, then it will restart and it all begins again. 2 factory resets so far and no dice. I am rooted on 10e but have a warranty device on the way which undoubtedly will be on a higher firmware and will likely miss out on the potential coming bootloader unlock. At this point I am probably going to sell on craigslist and get a 6p. The phone is great when it works and I love the size, the looks, and the screen, but the lag and these reboots are unacceptable.
Just a short update by me:
I gave it to the retailer, they said it would take about 10 Days.
I hope this stuff won't happen again or this was the last time i am buying a LG Product.
I think i would have been better off by sending it directly to LG but nevertheless, maybe giving it to the retailer will make my warranty stay longer
I will keep you updated, including firmware Version the phone has after sending it in and so on.
All of the sudden my phone today just froze leaving me with a black background and no animations, the phone is very hot if I try to use it on that moment. Even when I reboot the phone stays very very slow and says system it's no responding.
What can I do? Even when a Reboot it some times works normal then suddenly does it again.

Sounds like a heat problem in your case.
What happens if you pull out the battery, wait 10 minutes to let the phone get cold and than reboot?
Well, no luck on my end. I could only even get into recovery one out of every 50 times or so that I tried, and when I managed to I wasn't able to sideload any system software because it wouldn't initialize the driver (my computer recognized the phone just fine, except the ADB portion). Clearing the data did nothing either. Luckily I'm on Sprint and the phone's being recalled anyway, so I just walked in and they swapped it no questions asked. At least after flashing a TOT and clearing the data they shouldn't have an easy way to tell I was rooted or anything.

Thanks for replying, I completely restored phone today and was a success. No more black background.
same random rebooting issue here as well. and I just bought this phone brand new from a 3rd party :/
Update: I seem to have gotten past the problems after updating to 10n. Now running stock debloated 10n rom with no reboot issues (so far)
Update 2: Had 1 - 2 cycle bootloop on 10n

I don't see how you giving your phone to your retailer will extend your warranty. That makes absolutely no sense, since your warranty begins from your date of purchase.
My phone also ended up with the bootloop and having to exchange with a new unit. I'm on the TMO Variant H811.

Actually German Law is a little bit different.
Regular warranty is not what i meant in my post, i meant the "Gewährleistung" its an additional kind of warranty given out by the retailer.
There are some cases in which this "Gewährleistung", which usually lasts for about 2 Years is made longer. Mostly this happens when the retailer would have to send in a product for the third time, they basically give out a new one, which will be treated like a NEW device. So new Warranty, new "Gewährleistung".
I hope this somehow made sense
Today i got my phone back.
They repaired it.
Everything is like it was before, so i am pretty sure they didn't change it.
Firmware Version is 10d.
The Phone is working so far.
Will keep you updated if anything changes.

LG G3 doesn't read simcard, help!

Hi everyone,
So last night I got a software update for my beloved LG G3, it mentioned something about fixes or improvements trough google patch.
After this update it booted up and while my simcard was still in there, the screen said: "No sim No service" at the bottom of the lockscreen. Yes, the simcard was still in and yes, i tried re installing the simcard into the phone, rebooting as well.
Now to further explain my problem, i have a certain feeling this is a software problem because of the following:
My phone had another update a few months ago, this went all well but apparently the battery was done while the 'Optimizing apps to the new android' (Or so) part was busy. After i booted my phone again on the charger it kept going with optimizing the remaining apps (which were about 80). It stopped updating after around 10 apps. I pulled my battery out and in and it continued for a bit again.
I went trough this process for a couple of times until all the apps were updated and came up with some apps that were just closing themselves after trying to boot these, but it were only a few (Soundcloud, Facebook, Instagram, and some games) Even downloading new games got me the same problem.
I updated all these apps and after that nothing was wrong, even downloading new apps again was no problem.
While this update that i got yesterday was going, it got stuck at update 2/2 at 48%, i thought that this might had to do with my really bad previous update. So with pain in my eyes i ripped the battery out again and put it in and it went over the 48% but got stuck somewhere at 57%. So i repeated that process until the software was updated and then with anxious feelings the 'Android is optimizing apps' started. And yes it got stuck again after a few apps. So i repeated again the whole unhealthy process of getting the battery out until every app was updated.
After THAT, i immediately checked if some apps were closing themselves again but i only found out my simcard wasn't active. So no 4g/3g, not even bars of connection.
I know i did bad things to my phone while updating, i'm completely aware. But PLEASE can anyone help me out getting my simcard work again?
Many thanks in advance!
Is your phone rooted? Verify your variant is still listed correctly.

This won't require root?
And considering my history of updates that went so rough as i explained, will this make a difference? I mean, if i would go back and then update again, won't the same thing happen again?
No u dont have to be rooted to restore. And not nessicarily might have been a bad download mightve been somethin u had goin on interfered
so I made a similar post a couple of days ago. I'm on verizon and was on stock 5.0.1. I got a new sim card which fixed it for a day or 2, then my phone did the 5.1.1. update and the sim went kaput again. I got it working for a short period, but since then my 2nd sim is completely dead.
How about you are you on verizon? are you stock? what version are you on?

Note 7 Repeated Restart/Bootloop Issues

Anyone else have such issues with their new Note 7? Right out of the box after the update my device started freezing with weird glitch lines on the screen and restarting by itself, often multiple times before it loads up to my lock screen. It also frequently gets into a bootloop and the device gets really hot until i simulate a battery pull with Power+VolDown.
I'm using a Singapore set, the dual sim variant. Went down to the local service centre on launch day to get this problem checked out and already saw quite a few Note 7 preorder owners there for the same issue. The technicians did a firmware reflash and it seemingly solved the issue until the next day where the freezing begun again. It got progressively worse throughout the day. Now my phone has to be kept off as it would keep restarting by itself. The phone is pretty much unusable now.
Looking at local forums and Samsung facebook page, it's certainly more than just a handful of owners with this issue.
The same issue also seems to be appearing on Korean and Verizon Note 7's:

Another Brick in the wall
I have same issue.
Bought my SM-N930FD from Dubai on 19th August. I live in Pakistan and when reached home and started the phone for set up it immediately gave me a system update. I installed that update and after that it started freezing, and restarting.
I tried Samsung Switch app to restore my phone but to no avail.
I haven't disabled OEM lock in administrative settings also.
Now I cant not pass the boot screen and after few seconds it keeps on restarting, i think its a boot loop.
I can go to download mod, I can go into recovery where it shows status official but at the end DM variety error.
I have not tried anything unusual like rooting or installing third party apps.
As far as I have searched on the forum some more people are also experiencing the same issue. I think we have to wait for official XSG firmware of the region to restore the phone by ODIN.
In the meantime any help will be appreciated.

I only use one sim and SD card and afterwards I tried without SD card. I do not remember which update it was but it was like 193. mb. But I wish you do not have any problem because few sets are causing problems. My problem is I can not immediately or in near future visit Dubai I have to wait for some other solution.

I am using Malaysian device.. plugged only 1 SIM, and no SD card. Unrooted. I have both fingerprint and irises configured.
My phone frozen once and happended before the ~186mb FW upgrade. I was watching videos on youtube, then I pressed back button to go to home, then suddenly phone freeze. Phone went into blank/black screen, the top notification was still visible though (Battery percentage, Signal bar, etc) I followed power + vol down tricked and it worked.
after that incident, I upgraded FW and so far for the past 30hrs no issue. So I dont know. Many users in my countries seems affected even a lot worst than mine. E.g. every hour the phone restarts/get freeze.
I dont use facebook
Same issue with Philippine FD version released by a Smart Telecoms (local telco). Got my unit Sunday morning, drove home, it hung while I was setting it up, did a soft reset (power + volume down), got stuck on the boot logo and got really hot. I couldn't power it off until I did power + volume down + home. It wouldn't power go past the boot logo even after charging, soft reset, hard reset. I drove back to the store where I got it to have it replaced, spent 3 hours going back and forth from the telco store to the Samsung store where they declared the unit a lemon. Went back to the telco store and got a replacement unit.
So far the unit has not exhibited the same symptoms as the first unit even after the software upgrade to N930FXXU1BPH6. I'm keeping my fingers crossed this doesn't go the way of the first unit.
I am having the same issue with my Note 7 Duos (N930FD) from Dubai. It gets hot and now I have a constant bootloop.
When I got it I updated, and it froze while updating, so it does not seem to be due to the update.
Got mine from dubai also.. no problem so far.. updated to new FW as well....keep my finger crossed...

Looks like its a hardware problem. You can return and demand for 1-to-1 exchange.

Mine don't even boot any more, but goes directly to recovery after a factory reset. Shows an error in red "Need to check DRK first...". Going back for a replacement.
Anyway it froze for me during an OTA update to, so it looks like a hardware problem as it also happens when the OS is not even loaded.

Yeah its appear to be hardware problem. I had freeze once, that was before FW upgrade, brought my set to SC and they did clean ROM install. Everything works well for 4-5days since then.

Nexus 5x phone on , but nothing shows. (No bootloop)

Hi All, I'm new to XDA. I bought my LG Nexus 5x in 2016 (July). Since last week my phone isn't working. This is what happens.
When I switch on the phone after full charge. It starts with a very small white light ,but no display (no logo , nothing).
There is a welcome password at the start. So it will not go to any other step. I couldn't type my password , because nothing on the screen. But when I try to press on the screen , I can feel the keyboard touch.
I alos tried changing the display with another working 5x display. But same issue. Any suggestions guys?
PS : I didn't update this to Oreo. But before this issue happened , there was an auto update of Google Play Service with 430 MB (I also cancelled auto update ,didn't know how it was updated without my permission) , after that Oreo update notification wasn't in notification panel. But when I was checking at Setting OS wasn't updated to Oreo at that time
Alright so this exact thing happened to me few months back. I bought new phone and moved on. So like 20 minutes ago, I got the urge to check on my nexus if it can be revived and surprisingly, the screen started working. I don't know how, but the screen was totally black before i gave this phone up (with backlight on) and I could feel the vibrations. Just a few minutes ago I have started seeing these screen distortions again. I think it's a software issue so i'm downloading latest 7.1.2 ota to flash and will apply bootloop fix and see if it fixes anything.
