Hello everybody,
with the new EMUI10.1 also the "Smart Charge" feature arrived. Well, here at my P30 as a switch at least. I am really not sure, if this is working at all. I have it activated since Monday and am using the original cable and charger. The charging curve, as can be seen in the battery settings is not displaying any slower or even paused charging speed, the curve goes straight up until 100% ~1h after plugging in.
What is your experience here, can you guys see any difference, have any proof this is working?
Many thanks.
Hello @beggar23,
I have been using my P30 all day, trying the Automate flow you posted with RoteDose, and I enabled the Smart Charge feature since I got the EMUI 10.1 update .
I see a difference in charging behavior. Using the original charger and cable, AOD flow enabled, the battery charges way slower than it does when Smart Charge is disabled. Smart Charge disabled~50 minutes vs. Smart Charge enabled~3 hours (or more).
I think it works great, I would not want the battery to wear out so fast, so I'll just keep it enabled.
Off-Topic: BTW, thanks for the AOD Automate flow. I love it.

I also have 10.1 but do not experience any AOD flow induced difference with Smart Charge on or off. Tbh, I doubt, that Smart Charge is working at all here. So my judgement might not be that useful. :cyclops:

Hey, can somebody tell me what the Smart Charging mode on the G3 stands for? i activated it but cant see any difference to the normal mode...
Ummm where is this smart charging menu located?
If you pressed the help button it tells you what it is.
It learns your charging behaviours based on time of day you charge and location to decide how quickly to charge the phone (slower charges are better for prolonging overall battery life).
If it thinks you are charging something at a time you are in a rush it will allow the use of "fast charging" which is not great for battery health but does provide a much quicker charge.
The idea is to get a good balance between charging quickly and prolonging overall battery life.

is there a way to controll it manually , for example fast charging at noon but normal charging at night ?
No it's designed just to learn your behaviour.

Settings>Battery>"Smart Charging", you will see this screen. Battery Saver works for me but Smart Charging seems to disable itself the second I leave the screen. For example, if I turn it on, switch to messaging, then switch back to the battery screen, smart charging is again disabled. Does anyone know why this is?
I don`t seem to have that option
Smart charging not also found on my LG G3 D855
V10J-SEA-XX
This was the last update I got last week. We still don't have V10L, i wonder why.
smart charging is only present in CloudyG3 rom
So fast charging is cool and all, but charge duration really doesn't concern me like it might with others. I prefer my battery to be as safe as possible (fast charge can lower the life of it through time). If I use the Note 4 charger while the Note 4 is off, will it use the fast charge to 50% or will it use default charging? If it does use fast charge, I guess I'll use a different charger. Anybody know the answer? Thanks!

If you don't like fast charging then just turn the feature off? a regular charger could be use if you like, there are many options.
I would like to ask a favor from the entire Verizon Note 4 Community. The purpose of this post is to see if there are any ROMs/kernels in existence at this time to properly handle the Fast Charging setting when the phone is turned off, and also to poll those who still have a locked phone. Before unlocking, I seem to remember not seeing a "Fast Charging" message with my phone turned off when I had Fast Charging disabled, but it's been nearly a year and I don't remember.
Fast Charging is a feature that came with the Note 4, only supported by the stock battery. Extended batteries such as the Zerolemon battery, do not support this feature and require the feature to be shut off for more accurate readings. The following test can be done with any battery, stock or extended.
Please do a test for me and reply with your results. To do the test, you MUST have the following two items:
Verizon Note 4
Stock Charger with Stock Cable (or compatible QuickCharge 2.0 charger and cable)
With your phones somewhat drained, please turn them off and then connect them to your chargers. Does it say they are fast charging or not? At this point, it SHOULD.
Now, disconnect the chargers, turn your phones back on, disable Fast Charging (Settings>Battery>Untick Fast Charging), turn them off and reconnect the charger. Does it still say it's Fast Charging?
With Fast Charging disabled, please report:
Do you see "Fast Charging" displayed with your phone turned off and your charger plugged in?
Are you Unlocked/Rooted? If so, what ROM/Kernel are you using?
If you're still Locked/Unrooted, what version of Android are you on? (if you have no idea what this means, this PROBABLY applies to you. )
Don't forget to re-enable Fast-Charging when you turn your phones back on. You might actually be prompted to re-enable it, if connected to a Fast Charger.
It was always automatic for me and would let me know with the message, rooted or not.

I'm on EmotionOS. My battery charge time suggests my fast charging is working but it does not display messages regarding the fast charging capability. My battery life is amazing with this rom.
Are you on stock ROM? The 6.0.1 OTA had a lot of battery issues, I stopped fast charging with MM completely, but it would only charge with a fast charger base. Have you pulled any battery logs or looked at your charging rates while it was on?

have to point out this test would only work on stock touchwiz ROM or a port of one. fast charging is a Samsung device specific. I'm running emotion OS 7.1.1 it does not say fast charging but I can (with my power adapter micro USB combo that both specifically state fast charge) go from 50% battery to full charge in under half an hour. without these (afore mentioned power supply/cable) it states 1hr 21 mins (on lockscreen) till full . in conclusion the fast charge notification isn't the determining factor but rather the actual charge time
I have a stock unrooted Verizon Note 4. It has the standard stock battery. I just tested this out. It shows fast charging regardless if fast charging is enabled or disabled when turned off and plugged in.

Wow you're quick at responding. Thanks. Have you done anything to your phone other than take OTAs?
I could swear my phone would not say fast charging before I was unlocked and rooted, granted I was not on MM 6.0.1. I'm wondering if that makes a difference and if something happened in the upgrade that disabled functionality to truly disable Fast Charging.
I am up later than usual tonight. I have only taken OTA's on this phone with Verizon. It is up to date with the latest software.
As the title mention, once the P6P achieves 60% on the pixel stand 2, charging becomes intermittent. There are no issues with charging speed as it's able to reach as high as 28W. I tried removing the phone, restarting the phone, changing charging speed preference, changing the USB cord, unplugging/replugging the charger, with no difference.
When I place my Pixel 4xl on the stand, no issues reaching 80%, my assigned charging limit. I'm not sure if it's software or hardware issue with my Pixel 6 Pro. Can anyone provide suggestions how to resolve the issue? Thanks
EDIT: It appears that Morgrain was correct, the issue disappears once I disabled ACC module. Will reach out to dev about the issue. Thanks Morgrain.
Do you have the adaptive charging setting on? If so try turning it off.
Is it heat? My P6P will charge until it gets warm then stops charging. It's really annoying as on my car holder wireless charger it hardly ever charges. This is the only phone I've had this happen to but it's to do with overheating.

The phone is not warm. It's cool to touch plus the stand has a fan to prevent it from overheating.

Did you tinker with the charging limit on your P6 aswell (in the past)? Maybe it's AccuBattery/whatever app with a similar feature set that might run in the background, preventing your phone to charge fully. You might want to deactivate/deinstall all those apps to see if one is the culprit.
I can say from personal experience (got the P6 Pro and the Stand 2) that both work (at least for me) without issue, the phone charged to 100% no problem. Of course that still leaves hardware or software issues that might be the cause of your issue.

I use Advanced Charging Controller to stop charging at 80%. I don't mess with the voltage or current. My pixel 4xl operate under the same condition, limiting the charge to 80%.
The next time I recharge my phone I will disable the module to see if it makes a difference. Thanks for the suggestion.
Hello!
Do many of you have issue with wireless charging since Android 13. I have this issue since Beta 4 and still available in stable verison.
I have already tried to disable adaptive charging or intelligent charging, but with no improvement.
After a period of time it stopped charging. A restart of the phone solve the issue.
I use Pixel stand 1gen and 2nd gen. On both the same behavior. I also see this issue on Pixel 4 XL and Pixel 6 Pro both on Beta 4 and now on stable version.
Normal charging works pretty fine without any issue. Normally after a restart wireless charging works fine for a period of time.
For sure I do in beta a feedback to developer but issue is still open and not fixed. Probably one of you have an idea to solve this or have an idea what´s cause this issue, because obviously not all of you have this issue seen until now!
thanks
I have noticed similar wireless charging issues getting much worse on Android 13. I have always disabled adaptive charging since I often have to get up long before my alarm and still need my phone fully charged for the day.
Since the update to Android 13, it takes a full 6 hours for my phone to charge from 50% to 100% on the official Google pixel stand (1st generation). On my Pixel 4XL (pre Android 13) the same stand takes about 2 hours to charge it from 0% to 100%.
There is some bonkers bad charging regulation in Android 13 going on. I monitor the charging stats using Inware and find it only charges at <3W at most (where it used to charge 8-10W, and still does on pre-13 Pixel 4xl, so I know the stand is working fine).
In fact, it charges so slowly and therefore takes so long that after 4 or 5 hours, it makes my phone so hot (reaches ~40C) that it often has no choice but to stop wireless charging altogether. I think in its zeal to throttle wireless charging as much as possible, Android 13 actually ends up making the phone much much hotter over the long term for having to charge for SO long that it often doesn't even get to finish charging at all.
I really hope they figure this out and fix it. Unless this is all just a ploy to force us to buy the second gen wireless charging stand for $80 just for the fan... (but actually you say you have the same problem on the 2nd gen stand, so I don't know lol)
I have a 2nd generation Pixel stand that was a Xmas gift, and it, overall, charges really no better than a respected 3rd party 15W stand.
Haven't upgraded to A13 because of the terrible reports from wireless charging, and I'm using Renovate magisk tweaks that doesn't fully support A13 yet. However, when I take the A13 plunge, I'll post how it works on the 2nd generation stand...
i had an issue immediately after updating but after restarting the phone ive not had any problems with wireless charging in the last few days.
A13 here. Pixel Stand 2gen.
I have to keep taking my phone off the stand and putting it back till it works. It will never work on optimize. I have to set it to max.
I've been playing with different cases while wireless charging and monitoring the phone temperature with Inware, and have noticed a pattern.
1. After A13 update, charging is much more strictly throttled based on phone temperature. Where wireless charging used to pause when the phone reached ~38C, now it pauses ~35C. I assume this is to allow the phone to cool before continuing charging (which it often does), but for the most part, the phone retains a lot of warmth (and can actually keep warming) with or without charging so long as it's on the charger, making wireless charging pretty much a lost cause if the phone is at all warm to begin with.
2. I've monitored the temperature of the phone while wireless charging in different cases. In my cloth case, the phone warms up to 35C quickly. It barely cools during the pause in wireless charging, so it pretty much just fails at charging altogether. Overnight, it will *almost* fully charge my phone after 6 hours. *Almost.*
In my tpu case, the phone stays between 30C and 35C pretty consistently. Overnight, it will fully charge over 4 to 6 hours consistently.
In my case with a clear plastic back, it seems to stay even cooler, and can fully charge in under 4 hours. Same with no case.
So (at least in my case) the wireless charging issue seems to be connected to overzealous temperature-dependent charging-speed throttling, which seems to bring down the throttling threshold so low that case choice makes a huge difference in how/if my phone will wirelessly charge at all, where this wasn't an issue at all before A13.
Humm........ So, since I was used to the Stand gen 2 on A12, I just thought it didn't really work on A13. Leave it on the charger. After about 20 seconds, it stops saying to realign the phone and the blinking lights disappear. It works, just have to be patient.
So I just came to post my new experience. I just got the Ghostek Covert Pixel 6 Pro case. I was using an OtterBox defender case. With that case every time I put my phone on the charger, the white led would always bink on and off because it had a hard time getting the connection. It would eventually get the connection.
This new case, I have no connection issues. It's instantaneous. I'm also getting better charging speeds.
With the OtterBox defender case, I would have between 13-15% charging speed.
This screenshot is with my new case.
After fully charging
If you have enabled fast wireless charging then disable it. I hope this will work for you.
