Hello everyone,
Recently I tried to follow some guides here on xda and I managed to unlock my Redmi Note 8 pro, run TWRP Recovery and flash a ROM.
This was a great achievement to start my journey across these new topics!
After playing around, I think I flash some wrong or incompatible ROM and I think my phone is bricked, because it always shows a black screen.
I read some article form XDA that described what an EDL state is, and I think my phone might have load this mode.
Right now, if I plug the phone to the PC, the led turns ON.
If I press POWER BUTTON, it does nothing.
If I press POWER BUTTON and VOL -, it does nothing.
If I press POWER BUTTON and VOL +, I can hear a beep*1 in windows and I can see in DEVICE MANAGER than a new Item called "Mediatek Usb Port" under "Ports (COM & LPT)" section. After 2 seconds I can listen another windows beep*2 and this new item disappeared from the list.
*1: it is like the beep that sounds when you plug a usb device into the PC.
*2: it is like the beep that sounds when you unplug a usb device into the PC.
I do not understand this behaviour. Is this EDL mode?
Is it "normal" that the phone seems to connect and disconnect after 2 seconds?
Thanks!!
To flash ROM on edl mode you should have edl access in mi account
Yes it is. It only accept flashing via SP Flashtool.
The problem is, you will need an authorized MI Service account that only number of handful people have. You should take it to nearest service centre.

to ressurect, yes.
when testing every short pin, it just popped in that this is not qualcomm, after i got the spark.
well, there is another way, you can buy a box flasher. ufi dongle do a good job but that thing cost a fortune AND credits for some special operation. but I think investing 99$ and a few credits for covering every **** up (I mean, literally), and charge someone for their **** up is not a bad idea. maybe if you luck you can get secondhand for cheap. it will expensive at first, but you can modify your phone confidently.

Yep, my greatest regret ever.
The phone is good, I say. But not good enough in term of modding. What I want just a nice root and a nice adblocker, and a little xposed here and there. And what it cost? Real bucks and real headache.
My phone before this was Redmi Note 5 Pro, and have fallen to death once. And after a lot of headache, I managed to resurrect that bad boy, for free. And after that, no problem whatsoever.
But here, installing recovery may trip AVB, EVEN UPDATING OFFICIAL MIUI VIA CUSTOM RECOVERY WILL TRIP AVB!!! What a real f*cker.
But the key is there buddy, always force disable your AVB after doing everything, and you are good to go!

When i connect it to the pc it tries to install drivers, but then nothing happens
try getting into fastboot..
or try connecting it to the pc n install the toolkit n then use the option 16
OK you can try to install the qualcomm drivers as the phone must be in download mode. That`s why its recognising it.
Then I think you need to flash a hex image or something.
Take a look:

Maybe one of the kind members here (a regular) may let you send it to them in the states and you could RMA it from there?

Not sure what should i do
What rom did you flash?
Seroiusly mate. IMHO if you don`t have the qualcomm hex images (or whatever they are) or a means of JTAGing your phone, then only option is to send it to someone in the US who can RMA it. For the cost of postage and maybe a beer for the kind person, they could do it for you.
Assuming you ordered it from your Google account when you was in the US...
1) Find someone trustworthy in US
2) Ask if you can send your Nexus 4 to them
3) They RMA it using your account details
4) They send the new device to you in Europe when google drop it off.
Everyones happy.

as i seem to recall, even an unlocked bootloader wont give u access to boatloader partition and other important partitions..
which makes it still recoverable..
if u ask me, get a different pc with windows vista/7 *not windows 8*, download the nexus drivers from xda and install and then try flashing via fastboot..
and if i seem to recall, the installation scripts in the rom.zip dont format partitions numbers but use tags such as system or data which is predefined so you cant flash system in bootloader by mistake..
ofcourse, i can be wrong
Can't go in fastboot mode, that's the problem
I think the only option is to send it to a JTAG service, if sending to google aint possible. I remember reading it was around 60 USD to revive a nexus 4.
maybe its the charge?
leave it for charging for 30 min-ish
then try fastboot
or try holding power for 20 second-ish to make sure the phone's restarted
as in, maybe its semi-booted
Charging doesn't work, will need a JTAG service or ask LG support
Just noticed this on W8

I know it may take a while, but it`s a means to an end. A bricked Nexus 4 is no good to anyone, unless you want to sell it for a pittance for parts...
Personally I wouldn`t care if it took weeks. You would be getting a brand new phone eventually.

DOOOO ITTTTTTTTT !!!!
On a serious note, i bricked my nexus somehow a while back and these guys were able to fix my phone , they are very trustworthy.
BTW they do have international shipping too
EDIT: just checked , its 105 dollars in total for a repair, you have a couple choices: you can sell your phone for pieces (there is high demand for screens since everyone is cracking theirs, and as you know it doesnt work after being cracked), you can find someone local to repair, and your last choice is to just take the bullet and pay 105 dollars (+ shipping from your area to them) to send and repair your phone.
I'm sure there's another way to fix it bro.. It can't be that hard. Just search around

Yeah, don't remind me.... (been there, done that)
But on a related note, sounds like a JTAG is definitely in order. If you're comfortable learning how to use a JTAG yourself, I believe they're about $150-200. You can fix your phone, and keep the JTAG to start fixing other phones in your spare time. After a few repairs, it would pay for itself! I've often considered going this route. Something I've thought of doing is buying bricked phones for cheap, fix them with a JTAG, and resell them for profit. Could be a fun little business and you'd learn a lot about several different devices. Look up the RIFF Box or Medusa Box - definitely do some research first, if you decide to go through with this. Just a suggestion at the very least...
Yesterday I manage to hard-brick my Optimus G (intl) E975. :crying:
The process was quite simple, root, unlock bootloader, flash CyanogenMod, flash custom kernel F93, install FauxClock (paid version on Google Play). In this app (FauxClock), in the screen gamma settings you have an option to download a kernel enhancer. I downloaded the kernel enhancer provided in the app and its name was something like "all_kernels_enhancements_mako.zip". After download, I booted in recovery and flashed that "all kernels enhancement" .... and hard bricked it was!
The phone now won't start and all it does is to blink an Red Led (of death). I can't go intro recovery with any button combination. Only the red led. I hopped that it lacks battery juice and I put it overnight for charging but no change.
It looks like the zip was meant for the Mako (Nexus 4) kernels, not for L975
I searched on the web how to re-write phone's boot images and I found that there is a JTAG method for that using a device called RIFF. It implies that you open your phone and connect some plugs and re-write the nand flash. I searched some more and I found a guy in my town that does this kind of things. I met that guy and, for now, it seems that the re-write process is available only for the e970, e971, e973 variants of the phone, but he will try it on e975 anyways.
Right now I'm waiting some news for this guy. Keep my fingers crossed.
Update 1:
That guy with the JTAG has a hard time making my phone to boot.
Meanwhile I contacted LG service and they told me that they can try to fix it but there is a chance that the mainboard has to be replaced(?) as the phone is not recognized by the computer. They also told me that hard-bricking can appear even when flashing official firmwares.
As I am in a big hurry with this repairing stuff I don't know what to do.
Update 2:
In the end, after 8 hours of hard working, that guy made the best finding the right file to flash with some international help, made the right JTAG shouldering and finally, IT'S ALIVE!
My dear phone is now up and running. I just rooted it, unlocked it and flashed CM 10.1 again with the F93 kernel. Fortunately I made a backup 5 days ago so I lost almost nothing.
It was a good lesson and a first in Romania

I don't have much experience but i have understood that JTAG is compatible with all the android smartphones, even there's a video in youtube explaining the process. I hope that works for you mate, I have my E977 hard bricked too but I'll take to SAT in a few hours. Good luck :highfive:

Thanks Unreal_Shogo,
I saw that movie yesterday and this is how I found out that there is a solution for my problem.
A few notes on hard bricked LG E975 in general:
- after a phone is bricked, don't try anymore to charge it, because it will only consume the rest of the battery. The phone after that many hours of charging it had only 3 volts instead of 3.7 minimum. Android phones control the charging process by software, not hardware. And if you push the power or you will connect the phone to the charger it will consume completely the battery and you can't stop it if you can't disassembly the phone and disconnect the battery
- this model, compared with e970, e971, e973, it is different and harder to solder the wires, because the JTAG connections are on the other said of the board, not like the one from the video.
- the boot it is not compatible with the other models and it is very hard to find the correct files. But with some stubbornness there is nothing you can't do
Not all the androids can be repaired with JTAG because the manufacturer sometimes disable it. So never be so confident, that you can repaire the phone with a few bucks and no need to replace the mainboard. For example Motorola had only 2 or 3 models witch can be repaired.
And finally I am glad that you already customized your phone like before you bricked the phone and you came to me.

Hello all,
I bicked my E975 using FreeGee app. I tried to unlock it and it gave me a error message. Than I tried to restore backup and I get error message, again. The next thing I did, reboot the phone. After reboot, phone did not power on.
I have all backup files (.img files includes m9kefs, aboot, boot, recovery, sbl... etc) and I need to find a way to restore it.
When I connect phone to PC, it detect it as QDLoader device.
When I plug-in USB, charging led powers up for 3 seconds and goes off. At the same time I can hear windows sound (plug-in and plug-out USB sound). I have downloaded KDZ image and KDZ updater but it did not detect my phone.
I gave phone to friend of mine, he have riff box. He tried to resurect it but riff did not detect (as he said) the phone. sound like a impossible. What do you think?
Can someone help me with this, please.
Sorry for my bad english :/

Quoting my private message to marko_s for everyone's benefit:
Take it to a cell/mobile service shop and JTAG the phone. It means that your phone will be open, some wires soldered on the chipset and the propper files re-flashed on the phone using a special software.
JTAG soldering
Hello,
thank You for respond. I send it to ONE service guy, friend of mine, and he connected it to riff box. Riff did not detect the phone.
I'm only asking if there is another schematics/a tip to connect it to riff in proper way to get it work.
Also, what is possibility that there is something wrong with riff and or way that connects to phone and can not detect it?
I think can phone be bricked so hard that riff can not help in this situation. ?
It is not burned in fire. PC detect it. So I think that there is something wrong with procedure he used to connect it and "flash" NAND chip.
Let me know if you have any suggestions. Phone is out of warranty, it's opened and soldered.
Thank you guys!
Hi, youre a lucky boy
Haha, you can install a mako rom, without brick, it will boot!
belive me!
(issues are no radio (2g, 3g etc..) , invent volume button, camera (not testet
i think combination e975 kernel and mako patch was bad idea
Nice joke
Hehehe, nice joke.
I must fix it or throw it in the trash. I do not have to buy Monalisa, I can hang it on the wall instead.
Can you tell me where JTAG pins are located? Under the board or on the top? I'm not asking for schematic.
I removed the cover and battery connector. I can not see any soldering pins and solder traces. I did not remove the board.
Help is really needed and appreciated
Thanks!

I sent my to one service technician and he repaired my phone using RIFF. He had to remove JTAG connector. It is well done. I can not notice that it was there at all . I pay 25 EU for repair. It's not big money for that kind of repair.
What I will do, when I find a time to do so,. I will backup my phone using QPST and post files here on forum.
I have to put my phone in some kind of recovery mode and so on. I have no time for that, at the moment. I think it should work/help to repair your device(s).

But try one thing - 1) Plug it to wall charger for near about 15 mins. 2) Then Press Both vol buttons And then the power button too
( I tried Vol+ then Vol- and lastly power button ) Hold them all.
3) and when it shows charging screen keep pressing vol up button 1 time / sec.
You may not get succed for the very first time.
Try at least 4-5 Times.

Saw posts something like that in other forums. Some never saw their phones back. Hope this is not the case here and there is no attention to do so
I bricked my phone too, and jtag helped
Hey guys, so running 4.3 MK3 on the GS3 (OTA) I made an idiotic mistake and ran EZ-Unlock and believe it has corrupted the boot loader. I've poked around for about 3 days and haven't found anything that shows a sign of life for this phone. It does get a Red LED when you pull the battery and plug it in and dissipates after about 30 seconds. Cannot get into Download/Recovery. Odin will not recognize the phone. I would like to avoid a visit to Sprint so thus said.. I reach out to you all for some help. Any ideas? I have yet to go purchase a Class 10 SD Card and try that method.. Do you guys think this would work?

May or may not work, only other option is JTAG service. You may have a repair shop around your area or you can search for JTAG repair on ebay.

I'm going to get the SD card most likely in the morning. I did see a thread of other people successfully recovering from the same thing I did, so I am hoping this will work for me. I can verify a Class 2 won't work, lol. Worst comes to worst I will JTag it. I just don't want to take it to Sprint and have them work me over for it being Rooted and so forth.. If they would even be able to get it to Recovery or Download Siggghhhh

I have successfully unbricked 2 phones with the sd method, but that was before the whole KNOX thing came about. JTAG is your best bet. Do you have any local repair shops around? They may have the capability of doing this, as it requires soldering wires to the motherboard, and reflashing the bootloader.

I am not sure about Repair shops capable of doing such around here.. I'm sure they will want a hefty chunk of change. Yeah, this KNOX junk is really funky. I know I made a boob of a mistake and all, but sheesh. I'm crossing my fingers the SD Method will work. I did find a guy fairly cheap on EBay I sent a message to and he seems confident JTag is the way to go... $28.00 usd. I am so iffy about sending it out to a random third party tho, but I guess at this point what do I have to lose?

I attempted to make a USB Jig, hacked up 2 cords to no avail. Just ordered a Jig off EBay. Should be here by the 4th or before. Still going to try the SD method whenever I drag my dead arse to WallyWorld. It's kind of some nasty weather here in Ohio so I hate to be out on the roads without a life line! lol
Bricked & Frustrated
I have fixed my hard-bricked Sprint SGS3 without J-Tag and I have recently flashed using the same updated file and hard-bricked again! I cannot for the life of me figure out why the drivers are not installing correctly, therefore, ODIN dos not recognize my phone. WHY? Please don't bother replying with J-Tag as my only option. I am using Windows Vista and Windows 8 on another pc....In response, I flashed the MK3 updated sprint firmware via CWM from 4.2 Rom (cannot remember which one at the moment) and the battery was dying, I plugged in the battery and at the same moment the phone went black. The only indication of life is a red light comes on when I plug the phone in wihtout the battery.... Not a great explanation but it's the best I can do

The phone is being recognized by Odin 1.85 as Com 3.. But I am still not able to get to Download Mode.. Might anyone have any ideas as to what to do from here? </3
(side note) Still no success with Odin. Am off to get the SD Card now. Will report back with (Hopefully) positive results later tonight.

At the moment, I have tried; re-downloading, uninstalling, and re-installing the Samsung Drivers with no avail. The drivers start to download when I plug phone into pc via usb and the message reads, 'please insert disc or cancel to finish driver install'. I have read many posts and have come to my end. I need a brain not a shop to take it to.

Well it sounds you are in my boat so grab an oar buddy, lol.. I am leaving to get a Class 10 SD Card now to try that method. Look in your Device Manager and report back what it is recognizing the device as. I have done alotttt of reading myself and am at my wits end. Patience is the key as of now. Was the 4.3 you was flashing KNOX loaded?
Grabbed my oar...
The device manager does not recognize the Official samsung drivers and I am stuck at that end. However, good news is; when we do fix this, and we will, we might want to copy everything we have done on paper so we get the prize.

Well all the stuff I tried.. Ordered a Jig, Made a Jig, Bought a Class 10 SD Card, Odin methods, all the yadadada stuff, and nothing worked. So before J-Tagging I decided to douche my way over to Sprint and wala, a sexy new Purple S3. I didn't say anything out of line other than "It Died" They asked no further questions, sent it back to the Tech, 30 mins later the Tech comes back and rules it a SDS. Thanks for all the help and suggestions around here. You guys rock. (And a uber WOOT WOOT is its only loaded with 4.1.2, lol.) Guess I am safe again </3 Stupid Knox.

The decive is only recognized as qhsusb_bulk. And I never messed around with any custom roms or rooting. The power went off suddenly and couldn't turn it back on. Please help!!!!
If you were not doing any sort of modification, it sounds like a hardware failure. Get a warranty replacement if you can.

Nope the battery didn't run out. It was about 80% left. And above of all, I was in the meeting at that morning and i put down the phone in silent. After that, i couldn't be able to double tap anymore then I tried power button at the back. I even try plugging the charger in and pressed the power button. Tried to factory reset it. And tried using different adapter and cable. The led light didn't even turn on. But when i plugged in to my laptop, i hear the noti sound and it shows qshusb_bulk in the device manager. I think it's on qualcomm mode. I saw some posts about unbricking g3 which is on qualcomm mode but no luck for G4.

It must be hardware failure but I don't have warranty. See the thing is I'm in Myanmar. The authorized distributor only sells dual sims model. But i never planned to use dual sims ones. So i tried to get the single sim version from singapore and the warranty from that country doesn't really seem to be able help.

That error means the bootloader is corrupted. No way to fix it currently without the right software and LG proprietary firmware. Not available anywhere I looked for the G4 (for the lay person at least). Since you weren't tinkering with it, could also mean the memory is bad.
Call LG.
Ask on lgviet.com there are guys that can repair a dead boot. One even wrote here I dunno if it was Manhit or else. They are in Vietnam, not too distant for you maybe
Edit it's @vn_mobile
I had one do the same thing. Warrantied it.

Contact the seller and ask if they can help. it would mean you send it to them, they sent it over to the service center and when its fixed return it back to you. you will be spending for postage. there is a warranty but its in singapore.
unless you can figure out a way to repair it locally.

am sceptical about hardware failure.

Agree, quite rare, but it does happen. On my original Galaxy Nexus, the CPU just crapped out and died one day. That was the repair facility's assessment.
Flash memory specifically, not so much.
Hi, my nexus 5x is unable to be powered on, with a red notification light flashing when i hold power button more than 10s.
Tried combinations of all buttons for more than 10 seconds each, to no avail.
Charged for more than 4 hours, swapped chargers, swapped cables, to no avail.
I am unable to boot, therefore unable to go into recovery or bootloader to flash anything at all.
please advice!
Have you tried turning it on while connected to the charger after an hour or so?
You may need to return it, is it still under warranty?
What did you do?
Did you root? Custom roms? Battery dead? Flashed wrong image?
Just got mine back from LG for this same BS after only 2months new. They wiped everything and said it was faulty screen cable/ribbon. Came back with no screen protector so I guess the replaced the screen as well. Warranty it. There's nothing you can do. I tried every fix, combo, cables.
