Help with Hard Brick Sprint SPH-L710 GS3 please. - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

Hey guys, so running 4.3 MK3 on the GS3 (OTA) I made an idiotic mistake and ran EZ-Unlock and believe it has corrupted the boot loader. I've poked around for about 3 days and haven't found anything that shows a sign of life for this phone. It does get a Red LED when you pull the battery and plug it in and dissipates after about 30 seconds. Cannot get into Download/Recovery. Odin will not recognize the phone. I would like to avoid a visit to Sprint so thus said.. I reach out to you all for some help. Any ideas? I have yet to go purchase a Class 10 SD Card and try that method.. Do you guys think this would work?

May or may not work, only other option is JTAG service. You may have a repair shop around your area or you can search for JTAG repair on ebay.

I'm going to get the SD card most likely in the morning. I did see a thread of other people successfully recovering from the same thing I did, so I am hoping this will work for me. I can verify a Class 2 won't work, lol. Worst comes to worst I will JTag it. I just don't want to take it to Sprint and have them work me over for it being Rooted and so forth.. If they would even be able to get it to Recovery or Download Siggghhhh

I have successfully unbricked 2 phones with the sd method, but that was before the whole KNOX thing came about. JTAG is your best bet. Do you have any local repair shops around? They may have the capability of doing this, as it requires soldering wires to the motherboard, and reflashing the bootloader.

I am not sure about Repair shops capable of doing such around here.. I'm sure they will want a hefty chunk of change. Yeah, this KNOX junk is really funky. I know I made a boob of a mistake and all, but sheesh. I'm crossing my fingers the SD Method will work. I did find a guy fairly cheap on EBay I sent a message to and he seems confident JTag is the way to go... $28.00 usd. I am so iffy about sending it out to a random third party tho, but I guess at this point what do I have to lose?

I attempted to make a USB Jig, hacked up 2 cords to no avail. Just ordered a Jig off EBay. Should be here by the 4th or before. Still going to try the SD method whenever I drag my dead arse to WallyWorld. It's kind of some nasty weather here in Ohio so I hate to be out on the roads without a life line! lol

Bricked & Frustrated
I have fixed my hard-bricked Sprint SGS3 without J-Tag and I have recently flashed using the same updated file and hard-bricked again! I cannot for the life of me figure out why the drivers are not installing correctly, therefore, ODIN dos not recognize my phone. WHY? Please don't bother replying with J-Tag as my only option. I am using Windows Vista and Windows 8 on another pc....In response, I flashed the MK3 updated sprint firmware via CWM from 4.2 Rom (cannot remember which one at the moment) and the battery was dying, I plugged in the battery and at the same moment the phone went black. The only indication of life is a red light comes on when I plug the phone in wihtout the battery.... Not a great explanation but it's the best I can do

The phone is being recognized by Odin 1.85 as Com 3.. But I am still not able to get to Download Mode.. Might anyone have any ideas as to what to do from here? </3
(side note) Still no success with Odin. Am off to get the SD Card now. Will report back with (Hopefully) positive results later tonight.

At the moment, I have tried; re-downloading, uninstalling, and re-installing the Samsung Drivers with no avail. The drivers start to download when I plug phone into pc via usb and the message reads, 'please insert disc or cancel to finish driver install'. I have read many posts and have come to my end. I need a brain not a shop to take it to.

Well it sounds you are in my boat so grab an oar buddy, lol.. I am leaving to get a Class 10 SD Card now to try that method. Look in your Device Manager and report back what it is recognizing the device as. I have done alotttt of reading myself and am at my wits end. Patience is the key as of now. Was the 4.3 you was flashing KNOX loaded?

Grabbed my oar...
The device manager does not recognize the Official samsung drivers and I am stuck at that end. However, good news is; when we do fix this, and we will, we might want to copy everything we have done on paper so we get the prize.

This is obsurd

Well all the stuff I tried.. Ordered a Jig, Made a Jig, Bought a Class 10 SD Card, Odin methods, all the yadadada stuff, and nothing worked. So before J-Tagging I decided to douche my way over to Sprint and wala, a sexy new Purple S3. I didn't say anything out of line other than "It Died" They asked no further questions, sent it back to the Tech, 30 mins later the Tech comes back and rules it a SDS. Thanks for all the help and suggestions around here. You guys rock. (And a uber WOOT WOOT is its only loaded with 4.1.2, lol.) Guess I am safe again </3 Stupid Knox.

I'm Screwed & Offering A Bounty

So here's the deal: I got my E4GT and rooted it. Everything was fine until I let my son play a game on my phone and the USB cable became unplugged. He decided to "help" me and plug it back in. In doing so, he bent the cable end to 90 degrees and jacked up my USB port. It will charge, but the PC does not recognize it for data. I worked with another user on here to come up with any ideas to restore to stock so I could exchange it. The closest that I came was going back to a stock kernel. Unfortunately, it is now stuck in a boot loop and I can't flash anything else since I am back to stock kernel. I tried to take it to my local store for repair, figuring that I would offer the guy some cash to just get it back to booting correctly. Unfortunately, I must have the one guy at the one store where they don't bend the rules. So right now I have a paperweight. I will pay anyone who can come up with a fix a $50 bounty. I'm really hoping that I don't have to just pitch this thing.
Thanks and feel free to PM any solutions.
Do you have Sprint TEP? If so, you can probably get it exchanged for no cost. If not, it would be $35.

Just because you're on a stock kernel doesn't mean you can't flash in Odin. I don't understand. Can you or can you not get into download mode (Vol. Down + Power)?
Sent from the future.
Have you tried using a different USB cable than the one that got bent?
Here's the ODIN tutorial http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1274337 and this a back to stock you can use http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1282420 this will be your only way out since you said you don't have CWR any longer cause of the stock kernel that "someone" had you install.
"IF' you are able to get in to download mode, this TAR will get you back to stock so you can start fresh. If the USB connection is jacked up for good, then you're sol.
In that case I would odin some weird **** just to jack it up completely then call in for a warranty replacement free of charge.
You should be able to do a "factory reset" with stock recovery, this may stop the boot loop.

And here is the winner...I have done this with several devices and it always works:
Put it in the microwave.
Set the cook time for 2 second.

It will completely fry the inside of your device. It will never turn on again. They will be unable to tell what caused the phone to malfunction. IT WILL NEVER TURN ON AGAIN...LOL!

This may be a question for a Sprint rep, but would they have noted my records since I went to the store to have it repaired and admitted that it was rooted? If not then OI may take a damage route out if it'll work.

Firstly, we're not supposed to reject phones for root. Our M&P's clearly state we work on rooted phones and does NOT void any warranty with us. So either call him out on that or find a different tech.
Secondly, the microwave idea? If i see so much as any board damage, the phone's getting rejected. Then your definitely put of luck because your device will be flagged as DBR an ineligible for exchange. Not a smart idea, considering responsible techs such as my self make it a point to inspect every phone internally if it's not turning on at all.

So how exactly do I "call him out"? My only option for a repair store is a horrible place. They are the only major store for MILES around and treat EVERY customer like ****. If I just say that he's supposed to work on it and there is nothing saying that the warranty is voided, he most likely is going to tell me to get bent.

is the usb port on the phone bent? Like loose or anything? you could always lookup how to open the phone and solder a replacement usb jack on. I believe its a simple 3 to 4 point solder on the edge of the board.

[Q] Galaxy Nexus is bricked. Any ideas?

Hi,
About 1,5 months ago I received my first Android phone, a Galaxy Nexus.
I have unlocked the bootloader, rooted it en eventually installed Clockwork Mod Recovery following guides on this excellent forum! Everything went perfectly and it ran very smoothly in that state for about half a month up until yesterday.
I didn't have any custom roms installed, so I received the notification for the Android 4.0.2 update, it failed because of Clockwork Mod which I later found out. So I set about to manually install it, I downloaded the image from the google site and placed it in my home directory on my Phone, when I then wanted to restart to start in recovery mode it didn't do anything.
I tried getting the battery out and in, sim card out and in, recharging it,...
It does nothing, not even a small vibration signaling the phone is trying to start.
Anyone has any ideas to fix it, or might it be possible to send it back to the shop ( even though it is rooted etc. ?)
Thanks in advance,
Exatto
You need to get the stock images and flash using Odin or the ADB/Fastboot method. After which the phone will return to stock. Then you can root and do what you like. Lots of guieds on here on how to do it. Good luck.

By the way if you send back a rooted phone they will tell you to take a jump. Rooting voids the warranty.

Can you get into download mode? If you can you can use any of the methods above to sort it.
I don't think there is a real brick. There are restore images. Extremely hard to brick a nexus...borderline impossible.

No, that's the point. I can't get in any modes. It does't react at all. I think it might be a hardware fault, a friend suggested it might be due to a short circuit battery.
I just followed this guide (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1419170) to update, using method 1, having clockwork mod installed. And when I shut it down to restart in recovery mode it suddenly stopped reacting. I have had this before, but then taking the battery in and out fixed everything. Now it doesn't anymore.
Cool, well if removing the battery for a few minutes doesnt sort it then you should be able to return it because the carrier won't be able to tell if it is rooted if they can't turn it on.
When you charge it do you get the charging battery icon when you press the power button?

No, not a charging sign. I hope I can return it, but what if the battery is faulty and they just pop a new one in and then see that it is rooted?
Thanks for the help.
Could well be a dead battery dude, if you have a mate with a Nexus you could try yourself first. I know what you mean about the guy in the shop seeing the unlocked bootloader if he tried a different battery but you may be lucky in that he might not know what it is or you could just grab the phone and leg it ha ha
I hope it gets sorted and be sure to post here what happens. Take it easy.

As promised the followup:
Luckily they didn't notice my GN was rooted etc. as today I received a brand new one after I sent the broken one in to an official Samsung repair center
I did test some things before I sent it in though, a friend just bought a new one and we tested if my battery worked in his phone (it didn't) and we tested his working battery in my phone (it didn't work either), so something was definitely very screwed up.
Haven't got any idea of what went wrong eventually as the repair service didn't offer any details, although I am off course glad I got a brand new one.

Any hope for my HARD, yes HARD BRICKED galaxy nexus?

So I recently ****ed my gnex 6 ways from sunday. Im talkin no screen no dl mode no fastboot. NOTHIN, ZILTCH. When plugged into comp i get the noise over and over again as if im removing and repluggin the cord repeatedly. sometimes after 20 minutes of that it will finally show up in device manager as unknown device or OMAP440. but thats rarely and it dont stay long. Im no noob and this seems a clear cut case of a Hard Brick. But I beg of you, PLease prove me wrong. Thanks all.
Got the jig. Yup, this thing is ****ed. Probly gna send it to the big S jus to see what they gotta say. Thanks to all those who helped.
I'm pretty sure there is a usb jig that will force odin mode. If that doesn't work I think you'd be screwed. Here's a video on how to make your own jig. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jKRrTZayRxU
Or you can buy one already made for $5.50 US at http://usbjig.com/
What were you flashing when this happened?
a little info on how this happened can help.
Are you unlocked and rooted?
Did you drop the phone?
If you call the phone, does it ring?
In other words, is it your screen that's broken? I recently returned a rooted HTC thunderbolt with a non functioning screen back to stock to take advantage of factory warranty.
Sorry to be vauge. to clear things up;

There's multiple reports of the Galaxy S II jig working with the Gnex. I hope this helps. There is a forum on another website I can post the link if you want with a confirmed report of the jig working.
Anyway here's the link to buy the jig $1.60 with free shipping is a pretty good deal to save a $600 phone. http://www.dealextreme.com/p/unbric...msung-t959-i9000-i897-m110s-i8700-i9100-93514
Good Luck
Other than this, w w w . androidzoom.com/android_applications/tools/linux-installer_fuxq_comments.html , the phone was doing nothing else. started the setup process walked awayfor a bit, came back and BRICK.

this is one of the reasons why phone companies are so against unlocking bootloaders. people screw up their rooted, unlocked phones and then send it back to vzw or the manufacturer to cover the bill.
if you're going to root your phone and mod it, then man up and accept the consequences when you derp it.
not saying the op isn't going to accept full responsibility, but your advice is what's wrong w/ some in this rooted community.
Since the linux installer is only using chroot then one would think that it is simply adding its distro to the system partition then chrooting to start. How this bricked you is puzzling. There's no flashing operation here...
I'm guessing hardware failure. The coincidence is hard to ignore though. However, you weren't there when it actually died so who knows what happened.
i was flashing stock ICS 4.0.4 with Odin and then half way through an error came up. so i removed closed Odin from the PC and tried redoing it. and then it was saying analyzing files.
and so i closed it again and restarted the phone. and what came on the screen was a sign, with a phone dots an exclamation mark dots and a monitor. i think thats when the phones bricked rite? any help?

not bricked at all mine did it
happened to me do you have version 1.85 of odin and do you have a propper version of 4.0.4
odin 1.85 here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1394051&highlight=odin+stock
the 4.0.4 version i used here http://code.google.com/android/nexus/images.html
i had the same thing on my screen and it all worked fine the second time round.. i tried for a total of 8 hours doing different things but this worked with the latest odin.
make sure you load via the pda Make sure in the ODIN program "Re-Partition", "Phone EFS Clear", and "Phone Bootloader Update" are NOT checked.
hope that works. im a total novice but worked a dream

Sorry, but I canot say this, any politer ^^
And, please. Don't take me too hard but, I think you are still a n00b ^^
This has nothing to do with you post rate, or anything, like that... But, there IS no Linux installer, for the GNex ^^
BTW, try a battery pull, and leave it for a few hours, before posting anything else... It works wanders ^^ Maybe you just fried your phone, a tiny bit...

No, they can't and won't...
It's his OWN fault, for mucking round, with this delicate piece, of technology...
We ALL have to do this, on our OWN responsibility...
If he mucks up his phone, HE can pay for it...

Sorry your post is so retarded I have to double reply.
Do you really think the tiny amount of repairs coming from botched hacks is the reason most companies are locking bootloaders? Like really..
My advice is what's wrong? Hmm..
Maybe the OP should "man up" and go buy a new handset instead of Samsung hiring some monkey for $12 an hour to hook his phone up to a jig.

If I plug my phone in without the batt or sd, the led lights up. Is there hope?
I'm curious as to why you guys would flash i9300 ROMs? Its a totally different device than the i747. If you flashed an i9300 ROM your device is bricked and you either need to get a warranty replacement or send it in to someone who can JTag it.

You're bricked.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1727443
That is a link on how to unbrick a phone from flashing international image. Try getting into download mode by powering the phone on by holding the volume down key, home key, then powering it on with the power button. If nothing shows on the screen but odin is able to recognize the phone then you should be fine.

Nope. It's a paper weight. Using a friends old Infuse for now. Crappy part about this is that I was using it on Straight Talk, so I have no phone insurance. I suppose I'll wait til the Note 2 comes out and just sign up with ATT...

Possibly try a jig, if that doesnt work(and it probably wont as you've borked your bootloaders) send it to mobiletechvideos and pay $60 for them to JTAG it, they are a very reputable company and have done the service for one of my captivates. Be more careful next time and at least you dont have to pay samsungs near-$200 price to fix it!
On another note if you dont want to have to deal with shipping(and you should get shipping insurance, cost more but worth it if the device disappears) you may be able to find someone locally that does JTAG service for the GS3 but I haven't seen anyone around me that does it.
I'm pretty sure a JIG should get you into download mode...I always thought a JIG is a sure fire way to get you into download mode. There is a thread somewhere that has a list of forum members that have JIG's and where they are located, if you don't have the money to buy a JIG you might be able to find someone to let you borrow theirs.

No i didnt, if you read my origional post i said i made a mistake and asked if it could be moved.
As already stated a usb JIG requires some functionality of the bootloader, if it is completely nuked it will not work. The reason being the jig is simply a short circuit which triggers the bootloader to fire up, the most basic of functions being download mode. The bootloader from a different device may or may not have a similar enough instruction set to trigger the process. If none of the methods of [hopefully] getting into download, i.e. pulling the battery and letting the caps discharge, or booting the phone with the usb connected with or without the battery...chances are slim (although not impossible) a jig is going to do much. It is fairly simple to make your own jig as outlined in this thread although it does require fairly precise soldiering ability and a usb micro cable one would be willing to sacrifice. Most likely in this case JTAG is required to manually send an industry standardized set of signals to the PCB to jumpstart the bootloader into download mode.
If you're close to Austin I'd be glad to help. Jigs can help in some situations but I think this will not be one. Every other case of flashing the wrong boot loaders that I have seen has resulting in a non functioning phone or download mode even with a jig. I personally bought one back when I had my captivate because I had one that didn't have the button combo for download mode. Ended up with a soft-brick for a week one time while I waited for the thing lol.
