How to update 10.4.5.0 to 11.0.3.0? - Redmi Note 8 Pro Questions & Answers

My phone is running on 10.4.5.0 EU, rooted and twrp recovery installed. Preloader not installed (it was released later).
I'd like to update as safe as possible to 11.0.3.0 EU or 11.0.6.0 global (not sure about the differences).
Normally I would just backup, flash full rom, wipe cache and reroot if necessary.
Now I'm thinking to backup, flash preloader, flash full rom, reflash preloader, wipe cache, reroot and reflash recovery. Will this work?
Did someone successfully update rooted to MIui 11 without wiping data?
This is my daily driver, I can't afford risking brick and having to bring it to service center.
Thanks in advance

Bump. Anyone?

EDIT : Now i see that you have A9 MIUI 10. Think that preloader works, but not sure. Anyway, find FASTBOOT rom of EU version Android 9 MIUI 11, after that flash preloader and do everything like i written down...
I switched many roms with this method...
The most important thing is to have Android 9 and miui 11. I managed to install Android 10 with miui 11 indonesian with just flashing FASTBOOT rom with miflash pro tool... Reverted back normally with Android 9 miui 11 golbal FASTBOOT rom with same procedure...
The most important thing is that preloader. Before anything, flash preloader, after that you can go and play with different roms and recoveries. But beware, after flashing recovery MIUI rom with custom recovery, the rom will replace patched preloader, and recovery, so you will have to flash it again, but only if you are on Android 9 miui 11. As long as i know, i think that there is no patched preloader for Android 10, so if u are going to play only with Android 9, Miui 11, this is the procedure...

I did the update that way, without deleting the data partition. Everything went ok, but when I fixed everything, I had a strong battery consumption, at least with the gps, data, wifi turned off, even in airplane mode, my battery would run out overnight, ie my cell phone was constantly active regardless of whether I use it or not. I found no cause. Some icons have remained old regardless of the theme and type of icons. The Poco launcher was terribly slow to me and trotted a little while scrolling. I gave up and did a new installation. Transferred all my stuff to pc, downloaded 11.0.3.0 firmware (3.2gb) and with miuiflash made a fresh installation (delete all without locking). And that's all it works, I'm satisfied now, I have over 10 hours of sot with gps, data, youtube and other things. The best way is fresh install in my case. Later I put twrp recovery and magisk manager and that’s it.

if you went to a bootloader revision that doesnt have an A9 firmware, then you cant flash back. When flashing a new ROM, go into TWRP and use the file navigator to delete the folder named "Android" on the internal storage. From there, wipe cache and dalvik cache, factory reset (at the very minimum twice), install your ROM, profit.

Flash the latest MODEM and BOOTLOADER for DTC5, then proceed to update your TWRP to the latest revision to rule out any issues with that. Then flash your Android Q/10 ROM of choice, except any AOSP based ROMs such as LineageOs.

How backup current android 7 rom and install new android 10 rom?

Hi, I need your help to backup my current ROM and to update to some Android 10 custom ROM.
I am currently on a very old OOS based custom ROM with a rooted android version 7.1.1 (encrypted) and TWRP 3.2.1-0.
From what I remember, this TWRP version I have is bugged so that I cannot restore backups with it. However, since everything worked in the last years I didn't touch anything.
So, I want to..
1. backup my whole system and
2. install new custom ROM
Can someone tell me the steps I have to do?
I guess I have to..
1. Flash new TWRP (which one?)
2. Backup my partitions (does this work with a new TWRP for Android 7? Or would I need to use an older version?)
3. Install recent OOS firmware (which one and how? just flash it in TWRP?)
4. Wipe cache and data
5. Install new custom ROM
6. Install Magisk
7. Install Xposed
Is this correct?
I recently did the same thing. Your steps are correct, although I would add a couple more.
TWRP backup, TIBU backup, SMS backup, Then move all of those backups to your computer. Plus any contents of [Download, Documents, Pictures, Videos, DCIM, etc. ]
Download OOS from here, https://www.oneplus.com/support/softwareupgrade/details?code=PM1574156155944
This will completely reset you to factory. so you will need to set up the phone just enough to get developer mode on*, enable ADB*, & Unlock Bl
** I forgot this part and tried going to fastboot and directly flashing TWRP and got strange errors bc ADB wasn't enabled.
> Flashboot install recovery TWRP
Then I struggled with a few ROMS, but finally got CR Droid to install.
I flashed each file listed here, https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-5t/development/rom-crdroid-android-6-t3972533
Hey there, thanks so far.
But would you install newest TWRP first before backing up, right? Or Will the newest version of TWRP not work anymore with android 7.1.1?
And do you use normal TWRP or Bluspark version?
Edit: I think I would prefer to just install the OOS firmware because I don't have a windows system anymore so I can't do the ADB stuff via command line. Or I guess I would have to setup a VM with windows installed.. O_x

Update: Pixel Experience 10 -> Pixel Experience 11

Hi there.
Now that Pixel Experience 11 has a working front camera (https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/front-camera-not-working-with-new-hardware-in-custom-rom.4198661/ & https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/rom-11-begonia-pixel-experience-official-aosp.4196041/page-7) I've decided to update from Pixel Experience 10 to Pixel Experience 11.
Since I'm unsure how to do this safely, I'd better ask if what I have in mind is safe to do. I feared that if I posted this in the Pixel Experience thread few people might read it, so here it goes.
Phone:
Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro (Begonia)
Current instalation:
begonia-A10-CFW_20200823.zip;
twrp-CFW-3.3.1-0-begonia_UNOFFICIAL_0506.img;
PixelExperience_Plus_begonia-10.0-20200823-1919-OFFICIAL.zip;
Magisk-v22.0.zip (I did an update from Magisk-v20.4.zip but Ramdisk says "no"; I must've done something wrong but it's working and irrelevant right now).
Objective (post update):
begonia-A11-CFW-vendor-20201026.zip;
twrp-CFW-3.3.1-0-begonia_UNOFFICIAL_0506.img;
PixelExperience_Plus_begonia-11.0-20210316-1245-OFFICIAL.zip (md5sum is OK);
Magisk-v22.0.zip.
Procedure (clean flash; as detailed as I understand what needs to be done):
Make sure my phone has enough power;
Remove my pattern lock screen;
OAndBackupX to backup all my desired apps + data to my SDCARD;
TWRP Full Backup to my SDCARD (256GB SDCARD, so no reason not to be on the safe side);
Boot TWRP;
Wipe system, data, cache and dalvik;
Flash begonia-A11-CFW-vendor-20201026.zip;
Flash PixelExperience_Plus_begonia-11.0-20210316-1245-OFFICIAL.zip;
Reboot to TWRP;
Flash Magisk-v22.0.zip (https://topjohnwu.github.io/Magisk/install.html; methodology question below);
Reboot to system;
Restore my apps + data;
Profit (unless something goes wrong).
Questions:
Is it safe for me to dirty flash from A10 -> A11?;
Do I have to change my current twrp-CFW-3.3.1-0-begonia_UNOFFICIAL_0506.img to another one?;
Can I keep my SDCARD in my phone during the whole process or not? Will it be properly recognized? I won't loose the data in it unless I explicitly do it (like format it using TWRP), right?;
What about Magisk-v22.0.zip? Which method should I use to flash it (Patching Images or Custom Recovery from the link in Procedure #10)?;
Once A11 is running, is it safe to dirty flash A11 updates? Do I have to wipe anything in TWRP after I dirty flash? In this case, do I have to flash Magisk again after each dirty flash?
I have fastboot and adb available on my PC, but it's easier to just use TWRP. If that's not possible for the entire procedure then I'll use them.
I hope I haven't left anything out.

@Compass Linux the main question is: Why do you want to flash CFW for Pixel from 16th March? This is non-CFW build.

Wait, what? I'm confused. In the Pixel Experience 11 thread people are flashing CFW as these links below.

Unless the build from the 16th of march is non-CFW. If so, I need new instructions.
Indeed, recent builds of Pixel Experience 11 are no longer CFW: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...xperience-official-aosp.4196041/post-84424069
I have to follow these instructions now: https://telegra.ph/Pixel-Begonia-02-02
Hmmm, what about the bootloader? Won't it be relocked after I flash a Stable MIUI 12?
I'm so glad I asked before flashing. I would've screwed this one up badly.

Choose "clean all" instead of "clean all and lock" in MiFlash.
I installed Pixel Experience 11 today and the process was way smoother than I thought.
How easier it is than the old CFW procedure.
I followed the YouTube video in the OP and also https://gist.github.com/j-jith/0c4950e8020d9bed0c3104608b07a49d, since I use Linux on my PC.
The ROM I used was begonia_global_images_V12.0.6.0.QGGMIXM_20210118.0000.00_10.0_global_34e25c02e6.tgz (fastboot rom; non fastboot roms don't contain flash_all.sh)
I flashed Magisk using TWRP and it went fine.
I restored my backups with OAndBackupX, and two apps had issues (Firefox and F-Droid). My loss was minimum.
No "NVRAM WARNING: Err-0x10" error here (unless it pops up later).

The fastboot Stock ROM I used has these scripts (you need to unpack the .tgz):
flash_all.bat
flash_all.sh
flash_all_except_data_storage.bat
flash_all_except_data_storage.sh
flash_all_lock.bat
flash_all_lock.sh
Blue: Flash ROM and erase user data
Yellow: Flash ROM without erasing user data
Red: Flash ROM, erase user data and (re)lock the bootloader

I used flash_all.sh.

Encryption TWRP Unbreakable

What has happened to the Redmi Note 8 in recent ROM updates?
After installing stock Global MIUI 12 I can no longer do anything with TWRP. Everything is encrypted and I can't flash Zips or ROMs or Wipe Data or Format. I can install TWRP and have tried several builds but I can do nothing. I've attempted to run verity and it soft bricks it, I've tried probably everything I can find but I get nothing but red errors and the system files are all gobbledeegok from TWRP. Can not install anything. What changed? Why did it change and how can I get this rooted again? Without root the Note 8 is nothing but a screen full of ads and is full of pre installed spyware and I hate it.
I have tried to back date as far as I can but the only flashes it allows me are the fastboot ROMs from their repository.

then why using miui in the first place
anyway, put the Ofox zip in external SDcard and flash it, then flash DFE and format data
Oh, it was because the custom ROM kept being junk.

Simplest way to get back to stock

I know there are several threads that will show me how to get back to stock but theyre all at least a few years old. Currently my 5T is running a custom rom based on Android 11 with TWRP bluspark 3.3.1x. Can I just put a full stock zip on my sdcard and flash it in Twrp? Then by via adb or twrp, flash the stock recovery?
My main concern is getting stuck in a place it's hard to recover from. Based on my reading (and from memory) I believe the above will work but I'm not sure which recovery to flash nor am I certain which rom because its been updated. I don't believe I can flash an android 10 rom or recovery to it at this time. That would be for me the simplest solution. Once I get it back to stock I can just do the OTA updates.
The phone isn't for me. I'm giving it to a kid who needs it currently and the rom it's currently running has terrible battery drain. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
I had heavily modified my phone where my sdcard(internal storage) itself was not getting recognised and has tried custom os like Ubuntu touch and sailfish OS installed. But recently flashed OOS 10.0.1 back on my oneplus5t device. What I did was to wipe partition system, data, cache/dalvik and format data. Then I flashed the rom. When the device started. I did a factory reset again. This worked for me.
