Encryption TWRP Unbreakable - Redmi Note 8 Questions & Answers

What has happened to the Redmi Note 8 in recent ROM updates?
After installing stock Global MIUI 12 I can no longer do anything with TWRP. Everything is encrypted and I can't flash Zips or ROMs or Wipe Data or Format. I can install TWRP and have tried several builds but I can do nothing. I've attempted to run verity and it soft bricks it, I've tried probably everything I can find but I get nothing but red errors and the system files are all gobbledeegok from TWRP. Can not install anything. What changed? Why did it change and how can I get this rooted again? Without root the Note 8 is nothing but a screen full of ads and is full of pre installed spyware and I hate it.
I have tried to back date as far as I can but the only flashes it allows me are the fastboot ROMs from their repository.

Try installing orange fox recovery instead for Redmi note 8

then why using miui in the first place
anyway, put the Ofox zip in external SDcard and flash it, then flash DFE and format data

Oh, it was because the custom ROM kept being junk.

Best way to currently install marshmallow after failed attempts

Hi, after trying to use philz recovery to flash a ROM on to my device I got what I think was called a soft brick where I had to download and flash the stock ROM.
My device (GT-N7100) is now not rooted again and back to square one. Any problems I come across occur from using old tutorials with dead links so if someone could recommend a tutorial to install a custom rom like 5.1 I would be very grateful. Thanks
EDIT. I found this guide on youtube http://mytechtube.in/samsung-galaxy-note2-rooting.html + http://mytechtube.in/samsung-galaxy-note2-6-0-1.html . Does it look like it will work?
Flash twrp using Odin, then flash a custom rom via twrp.
Root your phone first. Flash recovery like twrp and install custom rom like Resurrection remix the ROM is stable most of the things works and good as daily driver.

Root is not required to flash TWRP. TWRP can be flashed directly to the phone using Odin.

Should I just use the latest version of TWRP direct from their website https://twrp.me/devices/samsunggalaxynote2n7100.html ?
I think my phone code name is t03g how can i confirm?
Thanks
EDIT. Just installed TWRP :good: now on to picking a good ROM. will have a look at the ressurection one too.
To install apps that require root should O root it now or do some ROMS root it for me?
Sorry for the amount of questions
The easiest way to install twrp would be to flash the tar version using Odin.

Most custom Roms come prerooted. If the rom is not rooted, you can flash supersu.zip from recovery.
Root can be enabled on cm13 under developer options in settings.

Thanks for the info. I've watched some videos of cm13 and I so far thats what im going with. Will look for a youtube video to help with installing it.
To install, download cm13 to an sad card, wipe cache, wipe system, wipe data, install cm13 zip from ad card, reboot.
Cm13 does not come with Google apps (gapps) so you'll have to decide which version you want.

I didnt realise that before. Could I for example install any of the GAPPS from this link https://devs-lab.com/android-gapps-download.html " full google apps" or pico google apps ?
From whatI gather GAPPS are installed straight after rom install before root though is this the same in cm13?
Flash CM13, flash Gapps, reboot.
I like open gapps frome here: http://opengapps.org/

Perfect Im going to try that in the next hour. I like the look of aroma. For platform would I select ARM and android 6.0?
EDIT. Found the answer it was ARM.
Arm as I believe your phone has a Qualcomm processor.

Yeah was ARM as I just installed CM13. Thank you seriously headig your way.
Hopefully, everything works.
Now that you have twrp on your phone, you can use it to create a backup of everything in your phone, including time efs folder. Save the efs folder in a safe place in case you need to restore it to the phone at a later date.
After making a backup, you can flash other Roms and you can return to cm13 by restoring your backup.
Just getting familiar with it. Thanks for the help.
Do you know if there's settings to turn screen on during during calls because it works with the front sensor and that sensor is broke on my phone?
Sent from my GT-N7100 using Tapatalk
You could try disabling the proximity sensor in the phone so the phone screen doesn't blank out during a call.
Got it sorted using an app from the play store.

Hi, phones been running great until yesterday when it started telling me the disk space was nearly full(via es filee xplorer). It then turned off a few times and i turned it on again. The phone would shut off if I tried to do anything like launch the camera app. It now bootloops when i try to turn it on.
I have tried wiping dalvic cache, factory reset, recover from a recovery point i made when i installed the rom and reinstalling the custom rom like I did the first time.
The phone did once go into a boot animation of the old boot screen(02 animation), another time it started the miui boot logo but went back to the normal samsung galaxy note 2 boot loop.
Any suggestions on how i could get it running again? Thanks!

Stuck with Twrp booting

Hi! I was playing around with my phone and I might have wrecked it somehow. My twrp is password protected, which I have no clue what it is, and therefore can't install roms or restore backups. The phone is not booting into the rom no matter what I do either. Twrp boots everytime I power on my device.
Please help!
Flash stock image and stock recovery (and wipe cache). Then after if it will boot into OOS recovery just click "reboot now".
Were you able to get into twrp? The password is usually the one you set up for your login to andriod system.
If you can get in, then no need worry. i had exact experience last week. Just remember to clear both cache, system, and data. Just keep internal storage intact. Then try to flash stock rom without rooting.
See if you can get it.
The cause of having this issue may due to flashing rom without uninstallng magisk first.
Good luck.

The twrp password is known only to god because I've tried every pin/password I have ever used on all roms I've tried so far but none of them work. Which is why I can't flash any rom as my storage is encrypted. Most of the times I have a pattern lock set but that can't be mapped to a password can it?
I decided to start from scratch and installed stock recovery and then adb sideloaded first the stock Nougat OOS and then later 5.1.1 stock OOS, but both times in vain. Both times the phone gets stuck on the startup setup saying "just a sec", endlessly. On the very first activity it shows a message, that disappears in a few seconds, saying "Disabled or missing download manager. Can't download voice pack". How can I fix this? Help please.

I would fully wipe, then format, but make sure you have the contents from your storage backed up externally. This is the only way to insure there's nothing left over from previous flashes. And then sideload 5.1.1-full update, you should be good from there. I had the same issue after flashing a OOS custom build.

Formatting everything did the trick. I thought sideloading OOS would implicitly do that but I was wrong. Thanks a lot man! Now is there any way I can keep my device unencrypted going ahead? I don't want Twrp to ask me for a password when I'm booting it.

unsuccessful decryption, PLEASE HELP

EDIT: FLASHING MIUI 10 WITH MIFLASH FIXED IT, THANKS 21friday
go to twrd wipe fromat data write yes nd install your rom
i have this problem too, this thing show up on booting everytime i clean flash any android 10 rom. i searched on google, they said i need to clear internal but it's not work.
but, when i flash lastest PE10, after those message show up, i go back to recovery and install custom kernel (i used icecold r6 here), and i dont know why those message wont came out and my phone successfully booting.
this only works on PE10, still not work on any other android 10 rom
and for your case, maybe u should reflash miui using miflash for cleaning everything.
i planning to do this but i have no time yet these days.

HELP PLEASE: Bootlooped Mi Max 3 after botched Adaway Install

HI everyone I need your help. i installed Adaway using F-Droid without first installing and activating the systemless hosts modules -- which I thought was optional.
Supposedly, failing to activate "systemless hosts" triggers a warning to do so during install, but not in my case. My Mi Max 3 (Global Edition, Post ARB) is stuck on bootloop to OrangeFox.
Uninstalling Adaway from OrangeFox did not fix the bootloop.
I'd be okay with losing all data and reverting to unrooted stock but I don't know how to revert to unrooted stock in OrangeFox when OrangeFox isn't finding any backup images.
Might manually editing the hosts file perhaps fix this?
Should I go into Wipe and wipe everything? Or simply delete Magisk? Theoretically, should this result in a system reboot back to stock?
If I can't see any img files are they still hidden in the phone somewhere (stock images) to reboot to? Because I moved since I rooted and cannot find the backup drive with my images on them.
My OS is still stock Android and Miui. These are the modules installed in Magisk Version 20.3:
optimizedgpsconf
quickstepswitcher
riru-core
riru-edxposed
terminal_debloater
Please, any suggestions -- I am sorry for being so clueless despite being in this forum for five years but although I am good at following instructions this stuff remains basically "magic" to me.
Best wishes!
Anybody ever lose all recovery, including stock, after flashing?
Hi again, I'm the one that bootlooped following adaway install. Stopped mucking around, wiped my data and used Orangefox to flash the OTA, which fixed the bootloop but the phone was encrypted (I really did wipe everything and check all the right boxes in the Miui menu). No big deal. I booted back into Orange Fox and did another data wipe and was able to boot to system.
Unfortunately, not only did I lose root, I lost recovery -- no TWRP, no OrangeFox, no stock recovery. I can only boot into the system.
And yet oddly, I can still browse the root files using a root browser and some play apps for root users still detect Magisk. (but Magisk Mgr isn't one of them).
I'm guessing the wise thing to do at this point is to use ADB and start over from scratch, reinstalling TWRP, Orangefox, Magisk and the rom?
Again, if anyone has encountered this error or has any inkling of a quicker way to fix it, please jump in. Thanks!

Question Mi 11x (aliothin) not booting after updating xiaomi.eu rom through twrp

I was using xiaomi.eu rom V12.5.14.0.RKHCNXM on my Mi 11x (aliothin) installed using the @gogocar62 method using TWRP.
Today i downloaded xiaomi.eu_multi_HMK40_POCOF3_V12.5.18.0.RKHCNXM_v12-11.zip and installed it via permanent twrp 3.5.1 (nebrassy) which was already on my phone.
Since it was just an update, i didn't wipe data. After reboot, phone booted into recovery and there was no sign of my data neither was i being to decrypt data or mount partitions.
Steps I've already done till now -
1. Booted into fastboot, ran temporary twrp 3.5.2. it was able to decrypt data and i could take a backup.
2. Tried changing current slot to a, then to b.
3. Tried wiping data without formatting data.
@gogocar62 can you please tell what's wrong and help me boot into system without data loss?
Also, i downloaded the weekly Android 12 version of xiaomi.eu rom too but i read somewhere that flashing fastboot rom causes critical changes to some partitions and system files and changes it to chinese rom. Is fastboot rom not recommended then?
Thank you.
Try going into BOOTLOADER to use fastboot instead of fastboot(d), if at all possible.
force reboot to twrp
then wipe cache, select reboot then select system

I'm glad you posted this, I did the exact same thing yesterday and had the exact same problem. I'm Normally extremely experienced with this stuff I've even made custom roms. This one caught me off guard because I've only had the phone 2 weeks and this was the 2nd custom rom I flashed. Long story short nothing worked and I had to flash miflash stock firmware. Than I tried it again and it did it again. So I flashed the zip before I was already on and everything worked. I don't understand backups with this phone sometimes they backup but I don't believe they will work to restore.
I have never had to say this, there is nothing you can do. You have to flash stock and go back it sucks and I hate it but it is what it is.

could boot into recovery. backed up whatever i could. flashed fastboot xiaomi.eu rom without data wipe (upgrade mode). Well did it work or did you have to go back to stock? I told you nothing works and I'm not lying I'm extremely experienced with this stuff. I root every device I can get my hands on. This phone is beyond difficult to flash roms with. The problem is you really need to go back to stock everytime you flash a custom rom to make sure it works.
I know when I said my first comment your hoping to god that you don't have to start from scratch but I tried a bunch of stuff to I just didn't feel like explaining it all. I flashed both twrps and tried I reflshed the rom and I did format data and still didn't work. It screws up the system partition layout and nothing reads right.
Went back to stock. Android 12 on xiaomi.eu rom doesn't have refresh rate settings and we are stuck on 60Hz. And also backing up, restoring everytime is a pain and waste of time. Will stick to stock for now.

I told you, I will say it again this phone for custom roms kinda sucks. It can be done but it's always you have to start from scratch Everytime and roll the dice and hope it works. Good luck I would still root stock though
The way everything breaks made me worried that the phone would hard brick if I kept trying stuff. Either that or some how wipe out fastboot and than it would be like a hard brick because nothing would work to fix it. It's a scary phone to mess with. The problem comes from the A/B partitions because XDA developers aren't really developers their just people who read online instructions on putting source code together and don't actually know how to code or fix anything. They get way to much credit. Topjohnwu is a real developer and that's why Google bought him
Facing issues again. Netflix app not showing in Play store. Device is not play protect certified even after flashing official Rom via mi flash.

i agree, flashing stock each time and booting once before flashing each custom rom seems the way to go. i know you're experienced - more than i - but in case you don't know... here's a couple of good apps for backing up apps etc that have worked well when moving from rom to rom (just save/copy whole swiftbackup folder with backed up apps to pc/laptop).
after moving rom, i select 'restore' from google backup but deselect apps (that's all done with seperate app below). that restores a fair bit, including some settings depending on the rom before and after flash. then install swift backup on my rooted device, copy swiftbackup folder back onto phone and restore apps with all data etc (+ anything else you have that didn't restore from google backup). swiftbackup can even backup and restore your wallpaper/screensaver, wifi passwords etc. it's so much better than the outdated titanium backup, which i find unreliable these days.
another alternative is alpha backup pro, another paid app but apparently worth it. sometimes it's on offer or free. i got it when it was free but haven't tried it as swift works well for me. alpha backup
note: i am not affiliated with either of these apps, just making you aware of a backup alternative as TWRP data backups, for me and with this phone, are a no go. also note, i don't backup system stuff when moving to a different rom, only installed apps.
like i say, no doubt you are aware of these options but thought i would post just in case.

I am using swift backup right now actually as I was reading this and yes I do the same thing copy folder to the USB C drive. It's the only app I've bought in a year. Thank you for at least making a comment of some depth. I get burned out at xda because everyone doesn't say anything they just want answers for their problems and don't contribute to xda.
I did not know about the other app so I will be looking into it. Normally I wouldn't say this but buy Swift back and you get cloud storage. I'm like you I restore apps with an app and I will be using Xiaomi cloud now but also Google. Another app is migrate it's the best for flashing roms it restores your apps and data from twrp well not quite once you reboot.
I thanl you again because maybe I didn't know about Swift back it's important people respond.
