Can I do anything to update it, root, debloat, or unlock the bootloader or anything with it?
should I have a bought a different carrier version?
To update I think you need to put in an activated AT&T SIM. You can find on eBay for $2-3

Not sure about rooting, but as I have replied to a few guys here about updating. Try removing your Sim card, then factory reset. When it reboots DO NOT connect to WiFi and skip everything to get to the home screen. After your at the home screen connect to WiFi and go to settings and check for updates. If it works, do them one after another until is can't find any more.
That worked for me and the only thing I can think of. It's worth a shot.

Could anybody assist please. I have bought a G3 from somebody on ebay and when I start it up, the device is asking for a MacAfee pin. Without this pin, download and factory reset are both disabled. I have not been able to get in touch with the seller yet however, from what I have been reading, after a factory reset, this will happen even if the user hasn't even opened the MacAfee app previously.
Could anybody help with this or have any experience with similar? :crying:

Can you post a screenshot of the mcafee screen? Also have you tried powering the phone off holding vol down and power to get into the boot menu and trying a reset from there?
You may have to press vol up on the screen to get into the boot menu.

I can't post a screen shot as my device isn't functional and I don't have a camera however my screen is pretty much this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=53722932&postcount=1 without the 'wrong pin too many times' warning.
I tried the reset option that you mentioned but this is disabled by the security as is download mode. :crying:

Hopefully the seller will get back to you and curious is it a UK seller with a D855 or a Korean model?

No, it's a uk model. The seller has got back to me. The code was 123456 (obviously )
It's a 3UK version. I assume I can flash the generic uk kdz? I'm on EE.

Not sure too be honest and I would stick with the 3UK firmware as this seems to support all LTE bands and the generic EU version seems to have an issue with certain 4G bands from what I have read here.
@bobsie41
How you get it to open?

I'm sorry if this has been asked and answered, I did a bit of searching but didn't find an exact answer. Maybe I'm getting two narrow sighted in my search, but anyhoo! I ordered a Pixel Xl 2 unlocked from Google. My question is if I pop a verizon sim into the deivce, will updates or any changes cause it to lock the bootloader. Should I unlock the bootloader to make sure it retains it's unlockable state or is it fine to pop in the verizon sim with no worries?
I am on Verizon also, and I too ordered the Google store unlocked version just so I could unlock bootloader when I got my phone. What I read and did was boot the phone WITHOUT SIM card connect to WiFi, skipped the setup, and enabled developer options to be able to unlock bootloader, unlocked bootloader and then I put the Sim card in and continued to set my phone up. If I were you, I would also do the unlock_critical command as well since it will also wipe data. I was unaware of that when I did mine. So future wipe is necessary for me.
Edit: wording
I used my pixel xl witch I ordered from Google on verizon for 2 months last year before I decided to unlock it and had no issues. If you concerned about it just unlock it now. If you not as worried but still think this could happen just manually side the update from Google every time a update is released just remember to remove the -w from the flash file and then you are ensured that it will flash all the unlocked able software!

Not sure I've ever heard of a sim being able to lock the BL, the Verizon model to the best of my knowledge is locked from google before it ships to vzw stores.
No... If you buy unlocked, the phone is unlocked.
I bought the Unlocked one from Google store and popped my Verizon SIM in. Bootloader is unlockable still

Same here, ordered the 2xl from Google, unlocked version. On Verizon. Unlocked the P2XL before putting the sim in (I did both bootloader and unlock_critical). Popped in the sim. No problem.
However, I would agree, and assume (again, didn't test this) even if you put the sim in first, you can still unlock, it's just that it won't ask you for WiFi when you activate the first time, it will simply use the LTE connection to connect.
The SIM controlling the unlock in the Pixels is an urban myth that just won't seem to die.

Sounds as ridiculous as people that wipe three times before flashing

Thanks for that. Had tried to load the Verizon factory image on my US Unlocked bootloader unlocked P2XL, but it would not boot at all
after several tries. Doing just the radio img is a great solution.

I haven't flashed anything whatsoever, all I did was get the device, open the case, charge it, unlock the bootloader (and critical), then set it up, then put in my sim (may have put the sim in before I set it up, can't remember, but definitely unlocked first, to be safe).
Is there an advantage to using the Verizon Radio Image? Does it give us something we don't already have? I'm getting expected LTE speeds (~18-20 mb/s down, ~4 mb/s up) with my phone so far...?

I can understand people being cautious, though. Not knowing ahead of time, I definitely read a bunch of threads first before I just turned it on, again, to be safe.... Is there any source you can point us to, so in the future when people ask this, we can say "Sims do not control the ability to lock/unlock.... See Here: [insert link here]"
I bought my mom the A505U for Mother's Day and she is on T-Mobile.
She has it all set up and says calling and everything worked automatically but when she start up the phone it has the Verizon splash screen, so it looks like came with Verizon firmware. Is it recommended to put different firmware on their, like the "USA" firmware from Sammobile or is there really not much difference. I think she said she also had trouble with the voicemail, but she eventually got it setup but says it doesn't work the same as her old T-Mobile phone. Also, if I put a different firmware on their via Odin, will it wipe her phone?
Thanks in advance.
"if I put a different firmware on their via Odin, will it wipe her phone?" - yes
How often does she restart it? its not really a problem just branding, im sure you could get the t-mobile one and it would have the t-mobile boot screen instead, most a50s are the same inside - its really user preference

I didn't see a T-Mobile firmware on the site. I only saw Verizon, Sprint, Comcast, and USA. I'm guessing USA is the unlocked version. I don't think T-mobile carries the A50.
I think she restarts her phone very little, probably only when it dies. I guess it's not that big of deal. Just an annoyance i guess.

the phone has multi csc meaning it doesnt matter which firmware is used.. it should change with the sim card inserted.
you could try entering into dial pad *#272*IMEI# then selecting TMB.. this will most likely wipe the phone tho

Yeah, I think she would rather deal with the splash screen then wiping her phone. She has it all setup and everything. Everything works fine, it's just the splash screen, and I think the voicemail works differently but she got it working though. I will ask her what specifically is different with the voicemail but I'm pretty sure she rarely turns it off anyways. I will talk to her about it and ask her if it's worth it to wipe the phone or not.
Thanks the reply!

I get an error while doing this.
I guess I will just try to flash the "USA" firmware through Odin. I guess she is having a couple annoying problems:
Samsung Cloud is hidden and even shortcutmaker wont open it.
Voicemail/Visual voicemail problems
Splashscreen
Regular error notification that the sim is not a verizon sim.
and a couple other ones I can't remember.
Ok I had my bootloader unlocked. Sim network all that unlocked. The bootloader locked by itself now I have no mobile data. And it shows on the fastboot screen fc4 under locked. What does fc4 mean?
Woah. That's rare, I only saw this twice. Though once was on a OP2.
Well, you want to unlock it again? It may hard-brick your device, if you're willing to fix it after hard-bricking it then by all means do so.
What I'd do here is update the system, or sideload an update, then attempt to unlock it. I don't know if that would work though, so do it on your own risk.
If you happen to brick your device then you can flash your stock ROM through EDL mode. Here is a full guide.
I have did everything even went back into tmobile os. Everything worked good except for my mobile network. The sim card was grayed out couldn't access any apn anything to do with mobile data. I just sent it back it was a replacement. See I was fooling around with that unofficial twrp then my network relocked itself then but I was still using my same modem. It wouldn't even let me network unlock anymore TMobile mobile couldn't even unlock it. It was weird

I don't think anyone can help you here mate, for all I know you may have a bad motherboard and need a new SoC.
Maybe you should just get a new phone. That's a really rare issue.
You may need to take it back to the T-Mobile store...
I haven't gotten the day one patch/November update since I set up my phone on Wednesday. Is anyone else in the same boat?
We have several threads on this topic. As far as I know, most people have gotten the patch by now. There are two fixes that will probably work for you:
1. Factory reset the phone and DO NOT place a simcard when setting the phone up, that way it should not detect Verizon as your carrier and it will prompt the update.
2. Or just put in another SIM, it can even be enough to have a second one from your carrier, or best from another - that should also prompt the update.

Would removing the SIM and then searching for the update possibly work?
I was in the same boat as you. Unlocked device on Verizon and didn't get the OTA and waited a day or two. I ended up sideloading the OTA via ADB instead of continuing to wait.
