I'm sorry if this has been asked and answered, I did a bit of searching but didn't find an exact answer. Maybe I'm getting two narrow sighted in my search, but anyhoo! I ordered a Pixel Xl 2 unlocked from Google. My question is if I pop a verizon sim into the deivce, will updates or any changes cause it to lock the bootloader. Should I unlock the bootloader to make sure it retains it's unlockable state or is it fine to pop in the verizon sim with no worries?
I am on Verizon also, and I too ordered the Google store unlocked version just so I could unlock bootloader when I got my phone. What I read and did was boot the phone WITHOUT SIM card connect to WiFi, skipped the setup, and enabled developer options to be able to unlock bootloader, unlocked bootloader and then I put the Sim card in and continued to set my phone up. If I were you, I would also do the unlock_critical command as well since it will also wipe data. I was unaware of that when I did mine. So future wipe is necessary for me.
Edit: wording
I used my pixel xl witch I ordered from Google on verizon for 2 months last year before I decided to unlock it and had no issues. If you concerned about it just unlock it now. If you not as worried but still think this could happen just manually side the update from Google every time a update is released just remember to remove the -w from the flash file and then you are ensured that it will flash all the unlocked able software!

Not sure I've ever heard of a sim being able to lock the BL, the Verizon model to the best of my knowledge is locked from google before it ships to vzw stores.
No... If you buy unlocked, the phone is unlocked.
I bought the Unlocked one from Google store and popped my Verizon SIM in. Bootloader is unlockable still

Same here, ordered the 2xl from Google, unlocked version. On Verizon. Unlocked the P2XL before putting the sim in (I did both bootloader and unlock_critical). Popped in the sim. No problem.
However, I would agree, and assume (again, didn't test this) even if you put the sim in first, you can still unlock, it's just that it won't ask you for WiFi when you activate the first time, it will simply use the LTE connection to connect.
The SIM controlling the unlock in the Pixels is an urban myth that just won't seem to die.

Sounds as ridiculous as people that wipe three times before flashing

Thanks for that. Had tried to load the Verizon factory image on my US Unlocked bootloader unlocked P2XL, but it would not boot at all
after several tries. Doing just the radio img is a great solution.

I haven't flashed anything whatsoever, all I did was get the device, open the case, charge it, unlock the bootloader (and critical), then set it up, then put in my sim (may have put the sim in before I set it up, can't remember, but definitely unlocked first, to be safe).
Is there an advantage to using the Verizon Radio Image? Does it give us something we don't already have? I'm getting expected LTE speeds (~18-20 mb/s down, ~4 mb/s up) with my phone so far...?

I can understand people being cautious, though. Not knowing ahead of time, I definitely read a bunch of threads first before I just turned it on, again, to be safe.... Is there any source you can point us to, so in the future when people ask this, we can say "Sims do not control the ability to lock/unlock.... See Here: [insert link here]"
Ok before I start I just want to say I'm a complete noob at android and how it works (got my first android a month ago) so don't get too angry if I say something stupid :/
So I bought an unlocked sprint g8 off of ebay but switched to another carrier called mint (uses t-mobile network) so I'm not sure how the software updates work. I'm aware I won't be getting updates from sprint, but I know that I have gotten 1 or 2 updates from lg since I got it. I'm a little confused as to if the updates from lg are all I need or if they are just security patches, and if there is a way to install sprint updates anyway.
I know I can solve this by unlocking the bootloader and installing custom roms once they start coming out, and on sprint I can enable oem unlock, but there is no way to access fast boot. If I do adb reboot-bootloader (or whatever the command is) it just does a normal restart. If I'm not wrong I should be able to do the bootloader unlock after lg adds the g8 to their supported devices, but I don't know how I'll be able to do this without accessing the fastboot. Recovery mode seems to be incomplete too (I can't use adb in recovery I think the drivers are not installed yet), so I think part of the sprint firmware is still kind of in a beta. So if the not being able to access fastboot and an incomplete recovery mode is a problem with the sprint firmware, will the lg updates themselves be able to solve this? Or is there anything else I'm completely missing?
Sorry if that was a little confusing but any answers would be great!
You will still get software updates. I have a sprint lg g8 unlocked on cricket and yesturday i just recieved the August 1 security software update.
I don't have an answer to your question, but does your Sprint model get VoLTE on Mint/T Mobile? Thinking about buying one.

There is almost a 0% chance LG will let US variants be unlocked. And with the impl lock we cant even crossflash the G8, so yea you are stuck with the sprint rom.
Your phone will update. Received August Security patch yesterday. Use ADB to remove Sprint bloat.
Any way to get WiFi calling to work on mint mobile using an unlocked Sprint G8?
I just received Android 10 update on LG G8. I'm on Total Wireless. The biggest thing is RCS is working now. It's a great update btw.

Can I do anything to update it, root, debloat, or unlock the bootloader or anything with it?

To update I think you need to put in an activated AT&T SIM. You can find on eBay for $2-3

Not sure about rooting, but as I have replied to a few guys here about updating. Try removing your Sim card, then factory reset. When it reboots DO NOT connect to WiFi and skip everything to get to the home screen. After your at the home screen connect to WiFi and go to settings and check for updates. If it works, do them one after another until is can't find any more.
That worked for me and the only thing I can think of. It's worth a shot.

I have the 6 pro unlocked bought from Google. I use it on Verizon. I found out that when I got the phone and put the Sim in that the November update was not downloaded and installed. I factory reset the device and did not insert the SIM and I got the update. I now have SD1A.210817.036 installed. I this the correct version? I understand there is a November update 037 now but I don't see that. Now I am concerned that when the December update comes out that I wont get that either. Does anyone here know if Google and Verizon have fixed this issue?
Thanks
We don't know because it's just too early to tell. Word is they stopped pushing the .037 OTA at all, although I don't know that from personal experience. I've got the unlocked P6P running on AT&T and I got all the OTAs almost immediately. The next OTA should be out next Monday, but I believe Verizon variants have often lagged at least a little when though the OTA is available directly from Google for all variants at the same time.
Also commonly, after several updates the Verizon version of the firmware gets merged into a single universal firmware.
Regardless of any of this, you can flash either the Verizon version of the OTA manually, getting it directly from Google's site. You may even be able to flash the non-Verizon OTA manually, but there's no reason to avoid the Verizon version since you're using it with Verizon.
With the Pixel 5, unlocked but using Verizon as my service provider: there was a 50-50 shot on some sort of delay on updates. I think it has to do with their mmWave 5G and other providers (US and international) either do not use mmWave; or aren't as proprietary as Verizon.
Is there any benefit to running the Verizon version on an unlocked pixel 6 pro?

The best answer is "maybe", leaning towards "probably".
For example, and probably a bad example but the only one I got. When I got my unlocked HTC 10 before I got the Pixel 1 in 2016, and I was still with Verizon at the time, I had no idea that I was going to have to jump through hoops to get Verizon's radio.img on my HTC 10, which was rooted so no big deal. Now maybe there was a whole Verizon firmware I could flash, but if I just wanted to use the regular unlocked HTC 10 firmware, I had to put the Verizon radio.img on there to even work on the network.
On the Pixels, I don't think it's ever been quite like that. I think you can use the regular firmware just fine on Verizon, but maybe, just maybe, it will work better with their proprietary bits that come with the Verizon version of the firmware.
Also, I know sometimes in the past that if you had the unlocked firmware on a device but used a Verizon SIM (or in other cases with some phones, an AT&T SIM, and probably applied to T-Mobile too), that you would then receive an OTA automatically to put you on their particular variant of the most recent firmware. So unless you disabled updates in Developer Options, you'd get the "proper" firmware for your usage anyway, and of course, being rooted is the ultimate method to avoid the proprietary variant of the firmware since OTAs will most likely refuse to even update a rooted device, although you should still turn automatic updates off since there's a chance it could instead soft-brick your device.

I have an unlocked p6 (not pro) that I got from Amazon which I am using on Verizon. When I first set it up without a sim card it got the 36 update OTA without a problem. I put in the sim card and didn't receive the 37 update long after it was released. Finally I tried an inactive Mint sim (t-mobile network) and got the update when I checked for a system update using the settings menu. It probably would have worked without a sim also.
Rumors are that there will be a December update so I will be checking then. If I don't get it I will try without a sim or with an inactive sim. But that will mean that automatic updates don't work for unlocked p6s on verizon.
I did finally sideload the .037.A1 which is the Verizon version so I will see if I start getting the OTA updates.
Thanks all

For clarification, if you didn't know (forgive me if you did), the Pixel 6/Pro will receive an update every single month from the time it came out until five years later (so ~ October 2026). Especially some of the later years they might only be security updates - not Android version updates, but they will come like clockwork I believe the first Monday of every month.
Personally i wouldn't use the vzw firmware as there are hardware differences between the two especially radio
Some quick tips what I did to my new OP9 Pro Tmob LE2127 on CE22 firmware here in Canada! Picked the phone up a few days ago and loved it right away but hated all the Tmob crap they installed. Tried converting with the Fastboot method and managed to brick the phone as I'm running Linux and its a little more tricky if your not a Linux pro! It unbricked very easily with the MSM back to Tmob tool and an old laptop on Windoz 10. Make sure setup the HUSB Qualcomm drivers properly! Than some reading and realized you can only go from TMob to EU rom with the MSM tool. Tried that worked perfectly the first time did all the subsequent OTA updates all the way to the current Oxygen OS 13 & Android 13 and its working perfectly. At first there were some weird SIM modem dropping and data issues but as I upgraded to newer versions of Oxygen it cleared it self up. Still says two sims in the mobile network area but identifies them correctly also the phone identifies as a LE2123 now! I also didnt unlock my bootloader but I did get an unlock.bin just incase that process took only overnight, I submitted and recieved the Unlock Bin the next morning it shows up in your One Plus account and you download it! Hope that helps some one out and issues I will report back! Phone is very smooth now!

I'm on the fence about that right now the phone is running really smooth and fast I will give it a few days see how it goes!
I received (another and hopefully final) my op9pro the other day. Powered it up and noticed the OEM unlock was in blue and it still is after updating to the latest version. T-Mobile is giving me a hard time on getting my SIM unlocked. Probably because I bought it from Amazon. Want to attempt but I have seemed to have forgotten if root is still achievable with Sim being locked. Sorry been away for a year, you know iphone things.(throws up in mouth). Good phones though for battery life
If anyone has a locked sim, converted and rooted, please do tell if it is possible I don't need the steps, just confirmation that it works. Thanks

It's 100% sure, possible. I immediately converted my 9pro to Eu on day 1, while sim locked. I bypassed the toggle with a tool in the forum but there's also an adb command available for making the oem unlock toggle work.
This includes root and unlocked bootloader while sim locked.
The thing to be aware of is, the T-Mobile variants have a different bootloader unlock process vs non carrier variants. You submit an unlock token to OnePlus and get an unlock bin back, then flash that bin. Lately, people have been reporting the site is broken and they're using support email/chat to submit and get the token. However, this different process can also be bypassed:
Right after you do the Tmo->Eu msm conversion, it's advised to unlock the bootloader on Android 11. Android 11 on Eu will not need the unlock.bin to unlock the bootloader. But it is needed for later versions so if you want bootloader unlocked, do it right after conversion while still on A11.
The "problem" is, once you do this, if you want to sim unlock the phone later, you have to go back to stock Tmo firmware with the stock Tmo MSM tool, as the built in unlocker is not in Eu or other variants. Which means you will have to wipe data later whenever you want to get it unlocked.
it took me 6 Agents at Tmo chat support to finally get the unlock handled properly. One agent asked me to submit my proof of purchase and I did but they couldn't figure out how to unlock it because of the imei starting with 99 and they only know how to unlock imei starting with 35. Thankfully someone else did know how and they got it sorted after a week or so. Some agents told me it needs to be on the network for 40 days, some said they can't do it because I didn't buy it from T-Mobile, some said I need to wait longer. None were true. I told them I'm a developer and needed to unlock my bootloader to test things for my job.
Here's a link to the tool I used for making the oem unlock toggle work despite sim lock: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...ader-unlock-enabler-engineer-decrypt.4380419/

I'm sure its possible. If someone wants to get you up and running. But honestly, it's better to learn it yourself in case something happens and you end up without a phone cause you didn't want to learn. It seems rough but once you get it you're golden bro. Tough it out and smash them wires in the phone/computer, and open a terminal and tap away at the keyboard. If all else fails, slap the phone and)or computer around and show em who's boss
I personally had to go to AA as BA/EU was giving me a nightmare of a time with data
Just an update on my 2127 Tmob to 2123 EU conversion! Its working flawless guys I didnt bother unlocking the bootloader when I did the conversion even though I do have the unlock bin. Which version of MSM tool is best for this conversion?

Question:
1.Enabling dual sim will add another IMEI to the device, so the original IMEI is duplicated or you get a new IMEI for it? In my country duplicate IMEI's aren't allowed hence asking
2. I remember there was a dual sim patch for OP8T and there were rumors of losing dual sim capability after update is that the same here?
