When I try to flash a custom ROM I get this error:
E: unkown command [retry_update]
E1001: Failed to update system image.
Updater process ended with ERROR: 7
Error installing zip file '/sdcard/lineage-16.0-20200411-UNOFFICIAL-mondrianwifi.zip'
I am using the latest version of twrp(v3.3.1).
Any help is appreciated!

I fixed it by flashing RR(android 7.1.2) and then trying to flash Los.
Sorry for dredging up an old thread, but I believe that this situation applies to me as well.
Today, I have tried multiple times to install the latest LineageOS onto my SM-T700 Samsung tablet using:
twrp-3.5.2_9-0-klimtwifi.img.tar
lineage-17.1-20210902-UNOFFICIAL-klimtwifi.zip
open_gapps-arm-10.0-nano-20210910.zip
[I also tried CrDroid (crDroidAndroid-10.0-20210903-klimtwifi-v6.21-LuisROM.zip) with the same result]
Each time I attempted to do this, I ran into the dreaded 'E1001' error. I had no idea what I was doing wrong, but I stumbled across this thread and successfully installed 'Resurrection Remix' (RR-N-v5.8.5-20201230-klimtwifi-Luis.zip) with the appropriate 17.1 OpenGapps (open_gapps-arm-7.1-nano-20210910.zip). I would much rather have the newest version of Android provided by LineageOS -- but this at least gave me the success I was looking for.
Why would installing Resurrection Remix 5.8.5 (Android 7.1) help in any way to making a subsequent install of LineageOS 17.1 (Android 10) successful?
@darethehair which stock was the latest you had on it?
Perhaps a newer bootloader would help.

Stuck on "this package is for "baffin" devices this a "i9082", can't flash custom ROM
Hello Friends,
I am pretty experienced, but I've thrown just about the kitchen sink to this error. Edited scripts, used TWRP, recovery.img, different CWM builds, and all I can do is flash factory ROMS. Anybody have any insight how to solved this?
I tried updating from a CosmicCM to a higher build and got error 7. Couldn't get that error out, so i tried to flash CM11 unoffical and got this more detailed error.
Thanks,
Paul

Have you sorted this? For me the problem was that I followed an old online tutorial that gave me an old version of cmw recovery. Once I'd flashed the new version it worked. Took me a while to figure out though.
Fixed!
I have a rooted oneplus3 phone and I am trying to update to Android 7.1.1 from 6.0.1 so that I can install the newest version of elementalx but keep getting an error that stops me every time I try and flash an update using TWRP
Android Version: 6.0.1
OxygenOS Version: 3.1.3
Kernal Version:
3.18.20-perf+
[email protected] #1
My phone is rooted and I have installed the twrp recovery version 3.0.2-0 on it. I previously installed xposed framework on my device but flashed the uninstaller for it recently.
The error I keep recieving is as follows:
E: unknown command [logs]
Updater process ended with Error: 7
Error installing zip file /sdcard/oneplus3oxygen_16_ota_051_all_1704112009_2521.zip
updated partition details...
...done
Is there something more I need to do before I can flash the file or am I just not using the correct one? and do I even need to update my phone to 7.1.1 or will flashing elementalx do that in the process?
Thanks for any help anyone can provide!

is that the reason why I am getting the error? Idk why I wouldnt be able to flash it with an older version of twrp
The unknown command alone feels like an error you'd normally encounter with an older recovery. Can you try updating and see if it works?
Allways use the latest Twrp recovery. Custom recovery it's better, because you can instal what ever rom you want. I use blue-spark v.32.
I updated twrp and it did indeed fix it! thanks a bunch for the help!
my a2 lite got the awful 10.0 update, and I tried to install a custom rom.
the only one that worked was the Avenger MIUI rom.
I'm using dees-troy's twrp 3.3.1
tried to reflash the stock img, it got me into booting only to fastboot mode.
I'm tired of the MIUI, can anyone explain to me step-by-step how to install any aosp-like rom?
back then, I had error number 7, and on my last try, after trying to flash back and such, it couldn't mount the storage correctly.
right now I have an error:
E:recv error on uevent

You need:
twrp-installer-daisy-3.2.3-0-offain (or higher)
Also when you install AOSP based rom you'll have to change A/B slots before rebooting. Most of the roms have step by step guide on the first page / post.
Yesterday i was trying to install from TWRP the LineageOS ROM from this post and when i was flashing the ROM this error came out "updater process ended with error 255" i have seen other phones having the same problem and the solution is upgrading to 64 bits TWRP but i couldn't find that version for the One Action, is there any other way to solve this problem?
if you have twrp that's why, better use any other custom recovery, if it doesn't fix it try to download the rom again
