The only reason samsung is selling as many TVs as they are is because they spend billions of dollars advertising. They use the same strategy for their phones. They don't have to make the best products, just advertise the hell out of them and the sheeps will buy them. Panasonic makes better TVs, they galaxy S3 phone isn't even the best android phone(LG and HTC have better phones).

And what, exactly, is the point of your post? I don't usually feed the trolls, but I will indulge you.
I got the Galaxy S3 because my work buys me any phone I want each year. I have done all of the research and have owned phones from Apple, Sony Ericsson, HTC, Motorola, LG, and Samsung. I don't have brand loyalty, I just want the best phone for what I need it to do. For me that is the GS3. For you, it may not be.
Who cares about TVs? You replace them every 5 - 6 years as opposed to phones which are replaced every 1 - 2 years. Go hang out in the HTC forum. Maybe you can convince them to spend more on advertising.

You should probably put quotes around it and say that it was from the article comments then. The way you presented it, it looks like you wrote the comment yourself and are trolling a Samsung forum.
To everyone, i am not too sure where should i put this topic on... and with respect to the forum mods, you can move this thread to the correct place. i hope i am right. anyway here i go.
Can someone tell me what kind of an app is this? I work in a mobile shop, and i know rooting and stuff, but i don't know this app, or what is does. My boss got this app somewhere and instructs me and my colleague to install in on every single phone that is sold. and he told us not to install it on our own phones, but only customers phones. I anyway ignored his words, and installed this app into my own phone.
Installing this application into my phone so far has no issues, but it a background application. when you install it, first you see its icon in the app drawer named "Android Service" with a green android as its icon. But when you open it, it says the application isn't installed and the application disappears from the app drawer. But go to settings, apps, and it is in the downloaded column, as well as running apps. Its like a hidden app. And my concern is, what it actually does? is it a spy app? or is it a virus? a ticking timebomb app that changes your phone settings including the password so that you cannot access your own phone? i do not want to be doing cheeky or evil stuff on phones that i sell, because people who buys it buys them based on trust and respect.
I hope anyone here, someone here can help me and tell me what kind of an app is this. Google doesn't help either. neither my boss... he won't say what app is this. install or quit, that is his policy.
Thanks for helping everybody, and attached will be the apk for the app.
Well, I downloaded the apk and opened it without installing, and the permissions look quite fishy. Based on the permissions, it could very well be giving away someone's contact details to a third party. How does he wasn't you to install it? Open up someone's phone and start playing around with it? Who'd let you do that to their phone? Definitely something to be weary about. If nothing comes up from here, I'd say you should run it by the authorities (of course not with the emergency no., but there's normally a non-emergency no. to call.
https://anubis.iseclab.org/?action=result&task_id=194d304a8f91d2e342161f5db6c2ed751
Scanned the apk with this site, not sure where it says whether it's malware or not (although even if it didn't detect malware, it might still be dangerous), but it had this screenshot. Maybe it didn't work because of the version of your phone. Definitely strange. Do you know your boss as an honest person? (Sorry if that question is too personal, you don't need to answer)
I installed it while on airplane mode, and the same thing happened that you described. Could be the site made a screenshot mockup based on the code... I have no idea what it is. Maybe some dev can shed some light. But I think this is in the wrong section.
Whatever the app is, pre-installing software without the customer's knowledge or consent is illegal.
Go to the police.
At best this is fraud, at worst it is data theft or possibly even organised crime. By installing the app, even on your employer's orders, you are complicit in the offense. If it is fraud or data theft, it could very well land you in prison.

True. Despite the fact that it's not fair for the customers, but if a customer notices there's a downloaded app that he didn't download, it's quite likely to come back to your company.
Truthfully here in the states all the phone companies put things on customers phones prior to them buying it. My gf called verizon one day and they told her what apps she installed the previous day. I see no difference than what someone is doing here. This seems like a rogue app and I would seriously consider going to the authorities

Well, it's more of bot net + grab.
Basically the phones can become a part of bots in future.
MAC Ids ,IMEI and other important information is being recorded.
These can be used for masking or cloning purposes.
How do I know ?
Well, because the dudes where data is going claim to be turkish. The method used is very very crude.
There is a chance that the original website was just a data miner. and it was hacked by those hackers.
Annnnd ,I don't want to give out any other information about them. Not really planning to get myself witch hunted. My XDA profile is public.
Right now ,that app is malicious and the overtones are political. Stay away as far as you can.
Don't confront your boss about this. If he's knowingly involved you'll put yourself and everyone you know (including us) in danger, and if he's just a naive fool that just makes it worse.
Make an offline copy of this thread, all the data and put it on a flashdrive along with the apk.
Take that to the police. They can check if the person involved shows up as flagged in any (cyber)crime database and handle it from here. They'll also inform you of the best course pf action in remaining anonymous, which may involve the deletion of this thread. (which, quite frankly, is a good idea if this does turn out to be serious.)
And yes, you'll likely loose your job. So will your employer. But at least you won't go down with them as an accomplice.

The difference is that service providers in the USA are legally allowed to put monitoring apps on their customers phones. In the interest of 'Customer Protection and Service', which is really a lovely euphemism for 'because the NSA told them to'.
Which, frankly, not a single non-US citizen is shocked by.
Here in the EU they're not even allowed to see what app is using your data.
As for what app were downloaded, ISP's dont need spyware for that. Service providers have access to a detailed log of what your IP adress is doing, down to which sites you visited, stuff you downloaded (legally and illegally) and what apps you used to access those sites. There used to be a way to call up that log yourself back around the turn of the millenium, but it's long since been blocked to customers.

Thank you everybody for help. What I and my colleague are doing now is not installing the app into customers phones, but when asked by our boss, we just say yes. it is a very fishy app i know, and yes it is illegal here, so yeah, i might be losing my job, but at least i'm not doing anything hanky panky. and the reason why i need to know what app this actually is, and what it actually does is so that i can let the big owner know about it, with proof. he's a hard to listen person unless you have proof and facts and you actually know what it is. he sounds like a fool right? but yup, he is.... thanks again guys.

For some reason I have my doubts about this. Not just that, but there is no link anywhere, just screenshots, which can be easily faked. This kind of thing happens in the gaming console arena all the time. People just do it for attention. Until a recognized developer we KNOW (on here preferrably......hsbadr????) can confirm this, Im going to rule it as fake.

Although, he has some petty good video of startup, reboot, and maintaining root...as well as showing root checker etc. so time will tell.
The guys a FRAUD. The XDA mods locked down his thread cause he was posting lies about permanent root which he willfully failed to show verity upon request. He is only looking for attention by means of "Thanks." pay him no attention. He's a troll. lol

Agreed. I don't understand why everyone is so uppity. What's the harm in just being patient and having a "wait and see" attitude, instead of calling him a fraud and dropping the ban hammer just because he hasn't revealed details yet. Unless we know for certain that he hasn't achieved root, then I don't think we should push him away, even if we don't like his methods. Keep in mind that there is a language barrier here also, so there may be some misunderstanding.
He already said many times he wasn't going to release it. He said it would hurt his business and Samsung would patch it.
Which translates to I've found something that will work on many Samsung devices so if I release it I won't be able to use it to make money in my business, because having a solution for only the Verizon note 4 is not going to do his business much good as he is from outside US.

All you have to do is look at his past post. He did the same thing with an LG device. Posting he has achieved root when he had not. When the mods finally asked him to provide proof he declined to answer. When he's been contacted on his site, his number, etc, etc, he declines to answer the question and left the LG community it's in a complete disarray. We don't need people posting root achieved notices just to get their thanks scores higher. The Note 4 community it's has been thru enough already. And if it was going to hurt his business to release the method, then why release I've achieved root. No thanks, the guys a complete fraud.
I can appreciate that reasoning, thanks.
Here a genuine question, not trying to be argumentative:
How is this situation with vnmobile different than the video posted showing the Galaxy S5 bootloader unlock?
http://www.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-s5-bootloader-has-been-unlocked/
It appears that this dev (beaups) does not plan to release his methods either, yet he is not treated with the same disdain as vnmobile. Granted it appears that beaups has earned respect previously, but at the end of the day the same question remains: what is the purpose of sharing the video?
This guy definitely a fraud. His real name is Ngoc Vu and he's running a business selling tech equipments in Vietnam. Let me throw a few things on the table here.
1) Language barrier issue - Nope I speak his language and had visit his website and his facebood page. Just full of shi...
2)Hurt his business if he released the root fix? Another bull sh... 2 ways he could make money. a) release the fix and collect over 20k cash from XDA b) Offer a service to root the phone with a fee. Guess what? none existed.
Summary - he just want to drive traffic to his web site, and make his business more visible to the world specially XDA where everyone interested in cell phone/tablet and electronic equipments. Case closed!

They are getting ready for tomorrow's US launch... but there are no signs so far of sources for any LeTV x800
Maybe some rom the x900 can be matched to our phone?
They even removed the sources for those 3 smartphones :/
Right guys I think its time for a change of tactic. They have ignored the petition with 1200+ signatures, they ignore individual requests. So can i suggest anyone who is not happy logon to the lemall.us facebook page and leave a feedback review, it sits at present at a score of 3.8 from 238 reviews.
I am fairly sure should all x800 US owners who signed the petition leave feedback of 1 star and negative feedback this rating will go through the floor. Maybe they will then pay some attention as its 1 of their income streams.
Saddens me we need to do that but we have all bought a product in good faith and have been treated like a gangrenous foot!!!
Hello,
I know this is a long shot but I'm here to ask it. What needs to be done to unlock the bootloader of this device, where would one start? Are there any manuals I'm able to read up on? Is it really a lost cause, if so why?

although I generally encourage tinkering on any and most all levels I think if you have to ask where to start in unlocking a bootloader, it will likely require more input then the output you would get in return. But thats just me. Plus I think the bootloader is secured using a key that only samsung, att, sprint, verizon etc.. have, But I suppose if you get that key you would be off to a good start. Good luck and godspeed!

I'm not necessarily interested in unlocking the bootloader myself, you're right I'm a bit out of my league when it comes to unlocking a bootloader. The key that's it's locked with is more what I'm interested in. I can't find too much info on the net about it, is it AES, SHA, RSA, Symmetric, Asymmetric?
That I do not know. I would guess it would be none of the above. Maybe some thing proprietary and kept uber safe/secret.

You've haven't seen any Samsung Note 8's with an unlocked bootloader. The only place that could be possible would be at the Samsung Headquarters itself. And even so, if there at Samsung Headquarters, the "KEY" would only be available to an extremely limited number of secure employees. Where did you say you saw one that was unlocked?
While ROOT has been established, thanks to a current member here on XDA Forums, currently, no one at this time has been able to unlock the Note 8 bootloader. Any attempts to do so would be a long shot of 1 out of a billion.

Android Nina, I agree for the majority of the entire community, but there are more sites than I could imagine. I'm talking about what's available to the public. True, it's a super long shot that is damn near impossible, but just because you and and the people around you or anyone for that matter find it a lost cause, doensnt mean
That now one else can. You're are a respectful person, I appreciate that. I wouldn't tell some "no you havnt" that's just assuming from the knowledge you know. Like you said, few people have the key. That knowledge is very powerful and demanding. I'm 34 bro. I grew up in a machine shop staring to leatn since the age of 8 or so. Cbc programming was the first computer language I learned. After 20 years or so, throughout the years I've always was into phone. Yes this is my expertise, and it's a different kind of coding . I've come to understand many computer languages. I was fortunate to make the business grow and we've made good relations with our clients. Boeing, Lockheed M, Spacex, just to name a few. That requires being Asmzs
That led to having a close relations with some very powerful people. Information is the most powerful thing. The only sure wag you can truly keep a secret between 2 people, is by killing on of them. I respect you, but I think it's a little naive to think that the few key holders, and powerful people. I'm a member a a few private sites, it's about knowing the right people.

I'm confident you haven't misinterpreted my post as my intent was meant to provide positive, constructive, & supportive information. Congratulations on your accomplishments & achievements. It sounds like you stay pretty busy most of the time. I've accomplished 2 masters, (when I was much younger, lol.) 20 years as a SEAL, latter to work in Intellegence/Counter Intellegence.
Respectively & respectfully getting back on topic. In your post, you stated "Surprisingly, there are people who have the note 8 boatloader unlocked. I've have seen it with my own eyes." So my first question is where have you seen the Note 8 bootloader Unlocked & who had it unlocked?
Your other sentence thats confusing is where you stated "These guys obviously don't like to share, unless they get something out of it. He's givin me the tools and pointed me in the right direction." My second question is what guys are you referring to, and who gave you what tools?
If you would answer these two questions, I'm sure it would clean up any confusion in the thread.

I do apologize for all the bad grammer, it's good though I know my homonyms lol. Well I got nothing but respect for you. I could easily tell you're not some 1upper. Who boasts. I'm just a small part of something that could be bigger. What I meant is that although I do aerospace work for them, I've come to know them on even a friendly level, but obvious they still keep anything that they simply can to themselves. The tools he gave me are basically the same as machinist tools, and the milling machines spindles are high speed. My neighbor makes computer motherboards and the like, he shared what he knew as far as mobile phones go. I take advantage of situations and am grateful for having a cnc machine shop. Especially when vaporizers started booming.. off topic. Their hasn't been a complex part to come in, where I had to say I can't do it. .001 thou true positions and profile tolerances. .0005 flatness and I first look and don't know where to begin. I eventually get it done. NGNS-(Never give up, never surrender) I think there are some highly intelligent people here. I'm basically trying to find people with ideas with cell phones in general. The cell phone companies are winning no doubt. Much respect, thank you.

I have learned most from experience, I think it counts for a lot but not all as some learn at way faster rates than others. I don't have any degree. I did get iso/as9100 compliant. All I have is a custom back cover on my note 8. Doesn't help much when I'm barely understanding all the parts and how they work together inside. If you k ow anyone in my little area I would appreciate.

I call bull ? & MODS NEED 2 CLOSE THIS THREAD. It's akin to me say I'm a 34yo masturbationist, who has close ties in the tantric, hippie & druggie community. I can only tell you the rumors of an orgasm a second are true! I have saw it myself! I begged & was given the tool(s) & vibrated unto the correct path. However I *unt ? it out! I also won't say what words, tools or techniques were shown! TLDR: Seriously any1 can make ? up. The Most Likely Possibility is it was a EXYNOS Note8! Ignorance is bliss. Thought there mayb some hope for the Note8 I stuck back into its box... I thought the LG Oreo screw up might [email protected] helped...

Lots of intelligent people say they have seen the Loch Ness Monster or the Yeti. But that does not make it true. Evidence makes things facts.
This has nothing to do with your intelligence.
