... and when it happens, I will name mine "Jane."
Well sure..we'll see. I remember reading about siri when they bought it and was pretty intrigued about the prospects for smartphone use.
It wouldn't surprise me if we see it on the I5.... And yeah it would be another apple game changer... 1 that would have the rest of the industry take a long time to catch up on given that apple owns technology.
All I know is they better have a keyboard on board!

What's so new about this Android has it since like forever? May be for dumb ppl who still think Iphone4 has 4G?
Usually on HTC there's a 30% chance you'll get rational exchanges when Apple's in the mix looks like this one hits that mark lol. If Siri (ever researched it?) were hotly rumored to be on the Nexus Prime, it'd be the dominant buzz topic on HTC, guarantee it...he'll were hot and bothered over device credit transactions...
Ok.. back to the google+ android circles on this one...there's at least an appreciation for the technology and it's smartphone implications.
Yikes!.... Umm... All smartphones utilize Vliingo...not even similar. Need....thread...deleted...

"This is real AI..."
Sorry, but no. The sheer amount of stored data required to actually accomplish a true "AI" won't be fitting in a smartphone anytime soon, and until someone has an always-on, 10+mb downlink network as a normal mobile broadband connection, it certainly won't be cloud based either. This will be nothing more than very very good speach-initiated actions.
On a related note, don't be surprised if ICS also beefs up it's speech control. It's been a long time since pico tts was implemented, and now with the standard amount of storage space in smart phones they can afford to inject a bigger database.

Using voice for a phone is a gimmick.. I've owned many smartphones and never felt the need for it.
Apple is going to add voice recognition and navigation, two things google perfected years ago, and the tech journalists are going to get all hot over Apple's innovation. The end.

In before I get flamed. And yeah, "if you don't like the thread, don't open it" .... whatever.
Is this a joke? Siri? Voice recognition with included internet search compatibility? Wow!!! Amazing!!! Not. Apple will be able to spin it as a ground breaking development to the idiot masses although this technology already exists and all that's different is more integration with voice command. On top of that it's boring and not as useful as they like to make it look. If this is all Apple's got it's pathetic. I don't even feel like responding to Apples non sense any longer is warranted. Let them sue everyone on the planet, they know their days are numbered and see the writing on the wall way better than I can.

Agreed, and then Apple's going to sue everyone who has voice recognition claiming it belongs to them. I'm wondering, have they ever tried suing Applebee's? Isn't there an apple in their sign too?

I wouldn't care who gets sued but the evil empire(apple) brought this and all the suits coming their way especially the one from Motorola/ Google. Apple should have just asked for a small licensing fee and made things easy and reaped the benefits of androids growth instead of making this spectacle and pretty much making them the bad guy in most tech peoples eyes.

BTW, you realize that even if Apple didn't sue the crap out of every phone manufacturer, the savings would not be passed along to you as the consumer. Samsung, HTC and Motorola would still price mirror the competition and profit. Also, the only people actually winning in these BS lawsuits are the douchebag lawyers, not you and Android.

first off, i hate Yin and Yang discussions but since this is yet ANOTHER "apple sucks" discussion, lets look at it from your point of view. per your quote from endlessparadigm, Samsung released some garbage ass smartphones to compete with blackberry. Well, Apple then said "F U!" because blackberry blows donkey nuts and turned a phone into a smart device and had the actual "phone" as a simple app. By creating a phone function as a simple "application", the true definition of "smart phone" was defined. This device was not based on the phone alone, but additional apps that carried the same presidense for the end user that the phone did.
Because of this presidense, iPhone users began to use their devices on a regular basis for applications outside of the normal, everyday use of a cell phone. these users were downloading guitar tabs, angry birds, etc... to this device as a means of mobile communication through data cells. This exchange of data with other users led to others seeking the same interchangabililty for a "social" outcome.
As you identify our devices today, the majority of what we do is based on communication. whether it be facebook, twitter or sms, those are all simple applications Apple had the BALLS to integrate as core functions of their OS while others waited for someone else to do it, because they didn't believe it could be done.
Quote Frankly OP, if Apple didn't step the game up and did what they did, you would still be updating your Samsung Design.
The whole lawsuit lost its credibility when Apple claimed people would buy a Samsung device thinking it was an iPhone, at that point if I was the judge I would have thrown it out of my courtroom. If a person buys a Samsung phone thinking it's an iPhone then both phones are smarter than that person anyway, you would have to be a complete moron to make that mistake

Yeah, iOS was sort of a pioneer for us. The ORIGINAL touchwiz does seem more or less a copy, but they did grow from that over the years.
The fact of the matter is, if apple wins, they'll have the ego to start going after more and more companies probably even google. Our OS is on the line atm, which is why alot of us our up in arms
I like to think of Apple as republicans, sure they had good intentions at the start, but they let the money and influence get to their heads. Like Republicans now a days, they go after anyone that's not them and kick em in the balls, partially for no right or reason.

I've been an Apple user since my parent's bought the first Mac when it debuted; sure I was like 5 but I grew up on Macs.
I've never owned an iPhone but have seriously considered it, researched it and chose Android for a number of reasons. I upgraded to the E4GT last year, most of my friends and family worship at the church of the iPhone and upon seeing the E4GT every single iPhonatic was blown away by how much better it is than their device.
Which brings me to today's announcement: I couldn't be less impressed-- the days of Apple innovation seem like a distant memory. The most impressive thing that Apple showcased today is that it has the world's greatest public relations team; I couldn't be more impressed by their PR machine.
Also, in reading many mainstream news articles about the new iPhone I've seen a plethora of quotes from stock analysts about the device's hardware and design but only a few quotes from tech experts; it's very telling that the only people raving about it are those with a vested interest in seeing the stock price go up.

Being a daily Apple user I agree with the above, Apple lost a lot when Steve Jobs died. However I wouldn't say that it is "just bringing it up to the current Android devices." I mean have you seen the hardware on that sucker? It's freaking gorgeous! You get Siri(Which I personally find fun and amusing), Airplay, Airprint, and iCloud which is a pretty nice service for those with Macs. I don't think the iPhone is for everyone, but I never have hesitated to recommend them to non-techies. My $0.02.

Exactly right about Apple "getting up to par" with current Android devices, but IMO I think they failed to do that today. I think the S3 is a better device.
I'd choose my current E4GT running JB with Google Now over the new iPhone and Siri (leaving the 4G LTE out if the evaluation).
Like I said in my OP I've been an Apple fan/user my whole life and don't want this thread to focus on bashing Apple rather look at the real facts beyond the world's best hype machine.

I'm still not convinced that Google Now is a match for Siri, to me it's comparing Kiwi and lemons. What makes the iPhone stand out is what has always made it standout, the how noob friendly it is, to us geeks who hack our phones it seems outdated and almost childish, but to users like my mom who just want a simple non-customizable phone that does what they tell it too every time the iPhone is perfect. That's always been what Apple is, magnificent hardware(If slightly behind the curve), dumbed down UI, and the sole focus being user experience out of the box.

I agree that the hardware is impressive but the integration you mention is only fully realized if you're using a Mac; the majority of customers are Windows users and the integration isn't as seamless- if you've ever run iTunes on a Mac and then used it in a Windows OS you know exactly what I mean. Whereas innovations like Play Music and almost every Google/Android gapps is seamlessly integrated and able to be accessed anywhere.
I am most impressed by Apple's incredible PR team and wonder why Google or Samsung isn't trying to hire every member of Apple's PR staff. A good example of the skills of their team: the same megapixel camera we have had on the E4GT for a year (including our panoramic capabilities) is being hyped as an innovative wow factor.
Wait, i have a question since you wanted a discussion.
How can you say blah when you said you have never owned one and what you know is by paper only?
Take this phone for example. How many people are so impressed by white papers but once they get the phone they then say "blah"?...

You're absolutely right about it being noob friendly (just wait until they allow the Jitterbug as a provider offering it LOL).

Yeah, agreed, noone would buy a phone with that price tag with Samsung's ruined reputation.
Not if the specs and technology are ahead of its time. Explosive batteries notwithstanding.
Does anyone here think gamenguide.com is in any way a credible source? They thank you though for all the clicks you generated.
Or maybe I work for Samsung and I am just testing how far the price could go . Seriously, I think Samsung reads this forum and I think they take out opinions into considearation. If there is even a remote possibility of it happening, we must try to prevent it. OK?
Samsung should be GIVING this phone to us since we have to go through this crap #1. Since no explanation/proof was given on how dangerous these devices actually are #2. There is a failure rate of less than .0001% meaning if all products were banned that had a higher failure there would be nothing in the stores #3. No upgrade path sense of urgency for its customers they gave a ferrari too and asking them to buy a ford #4.
That is just to get started... This whole thing is unprecedented. This is the first phone that I have had that lasts a whole day of HEAVY USE and now i have to go back to bump charging. The whole way this has been handled. The lack of communication on the real reasons why. The lack of planning/empathy for making us buy a downgraded phone till we WAIT for some UNKNOWN period of time before we MAY get something comparible.. but I will bet that the Note8 aka (NEWNAME) will not have the battery life this device has.. this is probably the real reason for the recall because it is an everything phone. We dont have to buy another one......
baby steps....
baby steps....
Screw the feds and apple because they are likely behind this too!

How did you arrive at that calculation? There were roughly 15 fires per week per million phones in use. If we say the average lifespan of the phone is two years, that would give us 1,500 fires per million phones, or 15,000 fires if ten million phones had been sold. That's a rate of 0.15%, a thousand times greater than for products considered safe. The only other kind of recent product to catch fire at that rate was the hoverboard, and those too got banned.
At this stage no one other than Samsung knows anything about a Note 8. It will never sell for 1200 usd. I wouldn't waste my energy worrying about such baseless rumours.

Seriously? :silly: You really think Samsung Korea read this forum and what we write will go toward their pricing policy? Samsung produce millions of phone's per week. Have been in this business for decades well before XDA was even thought of.
How do you arrive at such postulations?

Because they would be crazy not to care about their most faithul customer base. Xda is most known android forum forum everywhere.
Anyway, we seem to disagree on just about everything and you have been on my case since I came to this forum. Obviously no point in discussing anything with each other. Please don't quote me again or mention me. I won't either. Thank you.

No problem :good:. I wont reply to your posts IF you don't start malicious unfounded rumours that give false information to people who read this forum. I ask you again to substantiate your initial post.
I can also assure you I am not on your case. I reply to posts to make a contribution regardless who the OP is. Its true I do seem to cross swords with you here as in equal terms you do seem to write some odd posts. Samsung has hardly completed the recall of the Note 7 and you are writing inflammatory posts quoting prices that do not come from Samsung and you are unable to reference?!
Ryland
I just heard from my dealers sisters boyfriend cousin that it going to be 4739.99 usd
Enviado desde mi SM-N930F mediante Tapatalk
Since we are pulling numbers out of our arses, I say $999US max! Its less than the psychological $1000 consumer barrier and incrementally more than the Note 7 especially if Samsung adds what it believes to be "justifiable innovations". Oh, and of course $999 is sell-able to Samsung because they know that in many markets globally phones are financed (ex. less than 10% of ppl on this forum walk into a retail location and plop $850 on the counter for a phone). At this point its all just speculation...
If Samsung has a Note 8 lined up, but has the hardware and features that are ahead of its time to justify the high retail price, then why not?
But I digress. It's pointless to freak out over an unsubstantiated rumour. You're only wasting your own time and energy.
I am not malicious, Ryland just doesn't get it but I have seen him bully many users here that kept the Note7, says a lot.
I can't/won't aford a phone that costs me more than 40 EUR a month for two years (and it better be the best out there to cost that much). Unless it has holografic calls and teleportation abilities. And can replicate any meal or thing I need. Samsung will lose many customers if they get greedy to make up for profit loss from Note7 fiasco.
Hello,
I know this is a long shot but I'm here to ask it. What needs to be done to unlock the bootloader of this device, where would one start? Are there any manuals I'm able to read up on? Is it really a lost cause, if so why?

although I generally encourage tinkering on any and most all levels I think if you have to ask where to start in unlocking a bootloader, it will likely require more input then the output you would get in return. But thats just me. Plus I think the bootloader is secured using a key that only samsung, att, sprint, verizon etc.. have, But I suppose if you get that key you would be off to a good start. Good luck and godspeed!

I'm not necessarily interested in unlocking the bootloader myself, you're right I'm a bit out of my league when it comes to unlocking a bootloader. The key that's it's locked with is more what I'm interested in. I can't find too much info on the net about it, is it AES, SHA, RSA, Symmetric, Asymmetric?
That I do not know. I would guess it would be none of the above. Maybe some thing proprietary and kept uber safe/secret.

You've haven't seen any Samsung Note 8's with an unlocked bootloader. The only place that could be possible would be at the Samsung Headquarters itself. And even so, if there at Samsung Headquarters, the "KEY" would only be available to an extremely limited number of secure employees. Where did you say you saw one that was unlocked?
While ROOT has been established, thanks to a current member here on XDA Forums, currently, no one at this time has been able to unlock the Note 8 bootloader. Any attempts to do so would be a long shot of 1 out of a billion.

Android Nina, I agree for the majority of the entire community, but there are more sites than I could imagine. I'm talking about what's available to the public. I'm confident you haven't misinterpreted my post as my intent was meant to provide positive, constructive, & supportive information. Congratulations on your accomplishments & achievements. It sounds like you stay pretty busy most of the time. I've accomplished 2 masters, (when I was much younger, lol.) 20 years as a SEAL, latter to work in Intellegence/Counter Intellegence.
Respectively & respectfully getting back on topic. In your post, you stated "Surprisingly, there are people who have the note 8 boatloader unlocked. I've have seen it with my own eyes." So my first question is where have you seen the Note 8 bootloader Unlocked & who had it unlocked?
Your other sentence thats confusing is where you stated "These guys obviously don't like to share, unless they get something out of it. He's givin me the tools and pointed me in the right direction." My second question is what guys are you referring to, and who gave you what tools?
If you would answer these two questions, I'm sure it would clean up any confusion in the thread.

Lots of intelligent people say they have seen the Loch Ness Monster or the Yeti. But that does not make it true. Evidence makes things facts.
This has nothing to do with your intelligence.
