Subject says it all. I'm happy to wait the 168 hours , but I don't want to have to leave a SIM in as I plan still to use my old phone during the 168 period. I have removed the SIM and am now waiting. What I want to avoid is the 168 hours resetting but I only find out in 1 week!
Can anyone definitely say (i.e. from first hand experience) whether the SIM is needed during this period?
TIA
m
Nope, I waited the whole period without the sim on the phone.
Be sure that is on tho, I've been seeing comments that the timer resets if the phone is off during all that period.
Thanks @Onicss - thanks exactly what I wanted to hear. Yes, I am leaving it on the whole time, so I should be good to go.

Hi all I brought a dash off craig's list and need some help with it. For some reason it sometimes powers off in the middle of a task( turning on wi-fi, texting ect) I have done a hard reset on it twice, taken all the cards out battery waited 20 mins but everything back in and it still does it.

Sounds like a bad battery. I know it doesnt make sense, but trust me others here on this forum have had the exact same thing happen and 95% of the time, a new battery solved the problem.
Most definitely the battery. It cannot support the power load anymore that is why it turns off whenever you use a lot of system resources. You will need to buy a new battery, they are cheap via eBay - you can find stores that sell them brand new for about 20 dollars. Or through Google shopper.
I had to get a new battery when i got my phone i think the ones that come with the phone suck. the one i got was about 13 dollars with shipping from ebay.
Yeah the battery off ebay would be the cheapest...
Thanks guys will try that out
somethin easier and alot cheaper... go to your local tmobile store and ask for a battery, headphones, or anything else...
i got a battery and headphones for free
Ok will try the TMobile store
How did you get that for free man.
They will not give me one for free orderedone off ebay
Hi all,
First off I'd like to say that I've really learned a lot since first getting my Desire 7 months ago - Mostly from XDA 9hence the low post count... Reading usually does the trick).
Problem is, 2 days ago something happened to which I can't quite find a solution to..
So the story goes as follows:
I was playing around with my Desire as I usually do, using JuiceDefender with a regular 30 minute pause between syncing mobile data (which is the profile I've been using more or less since I got the phone). I also have been using SetCPU with the smartass governor with a 1133mhz processing speed, which has never given me problems before.
Now, suddenly the machine rebooted, for no apparent reason, and the processor (at least that's what I think the bottom part of the phone is, on the back side) was really hot.
Naturally I turned it back on, and thought it was a regular reboot, but it happened again, after another 20 minutes or so of regular use.
I then decided to let it cool down a bit, and see what then. No difference. Then I tried turning off mobile data, which seems to give a partial result - I can make long calls, but can't surf the net and use my phone with moderate use for over 15 minutes or so.
I also tried doing a full wipe and a cache wipe, then restoring the data, but to receive the same result.
My question is - What should I do now? Send it to get it repaired? Is it most likely a motherboard issue which needs replacing? And do I need to unroot my phone? If so, how do I go about doing that?
Many thanks,
Rafi
bump..
anyone? an idea...? thanks
I already see this issue before.
The only option is to send it for repair, htc will change your motherboard and everything works fine again.
bump again.. any other ideas? or any other options on what i should do re. unrooting?

This thread should help with unrooting:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=696189
and this one with the branded ruu you will need to flash for return for warranty:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=695667
hope it helps!
I'm with everyone on this issue.
Don't waste your time testing and trying to figure out whats wrong.
Flash the RUU, take it back. I had the same problem with my phone (Random rebooting). I wasted a month of experimenting and testing. I eventually gave in and took it back.
well, i sent it off without unrooting and without flashing the RUU, i didn't have the time. what happens if they find out it's been rooted? will they refuse to deal with my phone? or will it simply cost money to replace a motherboard..? how much should it cost in the case they don't give the warranty..?

rooting voids your warranty. Why didn't you unroot? It takes around 15-20 minutes.
My friend is planning on buying a used EVO. He's wondering just "how used" it is though. Is there a way to tell when the phone was originally activated, and how many minutes have been used in the lifetime?
The amount of time that a person spent talking on the phone doesn't necessarily give you a good idea of how much it has been used. I don't talk on the phone often - maybe a couple of two or three minute calls here or there. When my boyfriend is out of town (about every other weekend) we talk for a while, but other than that I don't use the phone part of my phone very often. I do abuse the crap out of it though.
Even if someone talked on it constantly, it wouldn't mean problems would occur. My first two Evos were brand new. The charging port broke on the first one within a month. The second one had irreparable software issues that caused me to return it within two weeks. I've had this Evo for almost a year and it was refurbished.
I do know that there are dialer codes that will give you more information, like if it has been refurbished or not. I don't know what the codes are or what information you'll get from them, but it's a place to start. Maybe you can find them through a Google search or something.

I agree with plainjane on this. I use about 45 minutes per month on my phone. Sometimes I use less than that. However, I am a text and data whore. The first phone I had was brand new because I bought it the morning the Evo was released. Six hours later I was robbed at gunpoint and my phone was stolen. So I got a replacement. It spent some time as stock and then I rooted it. Phone worked perfectly but I had dropped it a few times. The case was cracked slightly but nothing too visible. Then I cracked the screen. So I got a third one. And this one has been physically treated like a baby but has been flashed to hell with various ROMs and software packages.
##786# gets you revererse logistics support. You can see all info and reset if you want, just saying
##786# will give you the activation date as well as call time history, data useage history, etc.
Hello Guys, im new to 10 forum but in the past 12 years i used only HTC devices so im planing to leave my m8 and jump to 10
My question is this: I have a offer for a HTC 10 in brilliant cosmetic condition no sratches no even single sratch on the panel perfect as brand new condition never been droped or watered but the phone cannot switch ON.
The owner of the device have it from around 3 months and tell me that he was trying to SIM UNLOCK it somehow even he don`t know what he was doind coz he is not very familiar with things like this and NOW the phone its seems dead.
Its a Shame because is even under waranty but was locked on a network.
Anyway he is going to sell it for about 50 USD im asking you
Do the deal worth it? and what can cause the reason for this DEAD HTC 10 after trying to Sim Unlock it.
I think to try eveyrhting posible to give this phone a second life and after a week will be able to take it and see whats goes i don`t know more info i mean do i have access to Recovery or Fastboot since the device is not here till the next week but my question is do this worth it and what can be the cause of NO switching ON anymore.
The owner sayd that before to attempt this Sim Unlock the phone was worked perfectly fine.
Thanks in advance for the advices and of course when is with me will Update the thread with more info about the device.
Thanks

Do the deal worth it? and what can cause the reason for this DEAD HTC 10 after trying to Sim Unlock it. Well that's enitrely the problem with buying phone not working. You can't troubleshoot all the internal hardware like you can a PC and test what works and what doesn't work. you would need a working HTC 10 to swap parts with to test.
That said my opinion, forget about this phone. Go buy a working phone on swappa, ebay or HTC.com they are having a $200 off sale and you would have the peace of mind, knowing that you have a working phone. swappa would be best if you wanna negotiate a good deal with a seller.
Or go to ebay - factory unlocked 10's are $400 delivered all over the place.

I know what you are saying but listen
I know this guy is a friend of mine i know the device is brand new he bought it before 3 months in this case when is bricked after atempt to Sim Unlock im sure its SOFTWARE related problem becuase like i sayd the phone is in Mint perfect cosmetic condition no a single dust or scratch.
I know that its HARD to really Brick a device forever on a software level.
So i know also how much cost a brand new or second hand HTC 10 the goal here is do 50 Bucks worth it coz if i think stright only the Rear and Front Panel and the Displey in my opition worth more.
Im asking you what can cause Broken phone after attempt to Sim Unlock.

If its software why cant your turn the phone on? If its software you need the phone to be able to boot to download mode to flash RUU. I think your friends is lying to you. If its still under warranty why doesnt he return it back to the carrier? How about he give you the phone and if you get it fixed you give him the $50. If hes your friend he would understand.

it's usually 168 hours. but once you get this waiting time do not remove your mi account from your device or factory reset otherwise you'll get waiting time again. make sure to use your phone during waiting time.
