Unlock Redmi 7 bootloader without SIM card - Xiaomi Redmi 7 Questions & Answers

Hi
So before anyone tells me to just insert a SIM and be done with it, please read this first. I'm trying to unlock the bootloader so I can try flashing different ROMs and radios. I had a perfectly working global version of the Redmi 7. After a phone call, the network went off and wouldn't return.
What I've tried so far:
•Trying multiple Sims known to work
•Manual network selection (fails because it can't find any)
•Changing preferred network modes and bands with the *#*#4636#*#* menu. Nothing happens.
•Toggling airplane mode, several times.
•Factory reset, both from within the OS and from the recovery (Vol Up + Power button)
•Attempting to flash a Fastboot version of the latest global MIUI 11 ROM. This actually fails, saying that critical partitions can't be flashed or something.
•All sorts of bootloader unlock tricks, such as the older versions of MiFlash Unlock, using multiple accounts, etc.
I'm honestly stuck here. Any help in fixing my problem would be appreciated. It could be either getting the network to work, or unlocking the bootloader. I can't bind the MiAccount to the phone under developer options ->MiUnlock status or such, because it detects that there is a SIM in the phone alright, but it just can't connect to any network.

Was the SIM card's network working before? Maybe you're just in a dead spot?

It was working fine for a few months. It just stopped being able to connect to a network all of a sudden. I swapped SIMs, moved to places with strong network connections (I verified with a different phone) and still nothing.

Then you probably should head to a service center to get it fixed.

Same, i did ask in service they said that they have to replace the whole PCB which will cost somewhere around 6k, so i just bought a new phone by replacing it on amazon for 5k

Same issue im having here but with a new POCO F2 pro. Since inception i was not able to get signal on it

I need to root my redmi 6a but bootloader makes a big trouble for me .for unlocking bootloader there must be sim in that device.but I doesn't have a sim card and even if I insert it, my sim board is damaged. So is there a way to unlock bootloader without inserting sim.

No Service Selected network (AT&T) unavailable! No Signal

I flashed in JB AOKP was working fine all of last night. I also entered my SIM Pin or unlock code. The first time I put in an 8 digit unlock code I have. Second time it prompted me I skipped it. I'm pretty sure it was the security pin and not the network unlock. I don't have any other phone's micro SIM I can insert into my phone and a local phone store's T Mobile SIM produced no different of a result except for replacing AT&T with T-Mobile (I have not however put my microSIM into another phone...because I don't have another micro sim phone). Reboot phone this morning and it's no longer working. Tried to enable 2g. Nothing. Tried a battery pull with the phone on, pulling the SIM (same message with SIM pulled out),
Wifi works
This sucks big time ;(
Note: I am pretty sure I did not network lock the phone or anything because the SIM prompt that came up when I flashed JB did not ask me for my unlock or network code (I would have known). The first time I entered that code was 'just in case it's asking me to unlock" but why would it ask me a second time then? So I doubt it was prompting me for a network unlock code. The prompt from youtube videos was different too.
Also APN is empty, but I think that's becasue I'm not connected to any network
Pressing Available networks brings up AT&T AT&T AT&T T-Mobile T-Mobile "311660" pressing any of them you get a quick window connect "too fast" goes back to/stays in available networks screen and says "Can't connect to this network right now. Try again later."
So I added the AOKP and Corresponding kernel yesterday and I mean it was working fine with 4g... apparently this thread says that you need to flash a new radio in some cases when you change kernels?

...what are you talking about. My IMEI isn't mentioned once in that post. In fact now that you mention it, since people's IMEI changed...nothing like that my phone still has its IMEI
I also did not get a "phone frozen" from entering the wrong code too many times...so I doubt its locked like that. There was a random reboot that I WOKE UP to, but nothing weird...it rebooted randomly but worked finely after that

I was proposing the theory that you may have lost your IMEI, since the symptoms you report were very similar to what I was experiencing when I lost mine, however since you still have yours, must be something else, eh?

Well, mine was definitely due to a lost imei that happened sometime when flashing.
I did get the network unlock warning thingy twice, and then had no cellular connectivity, which is why I mentioned the lost imei. I restored my nandroid back to stock, then used the method here with a little driver tapdancing to reinject my imei, and that solved my issues, but sounds like you have something else going on.

If I flash back to stock and no longer have the stock kernel, what is the steps for flashing back then?
1. flash stock kernel
2 fix partitions
3. factory rest/cache/davlik
reboot into oden and flash new image?
Long story short, Don't cut your own microsd..the sim pins on this phone are VERY sensitive and hard to fix/see. Don't bend em.
I am having the same problems right now, I keep on getting " NO SERVICE" - SELECTED NETWORK UNAVAILABLE" Error.
Rebooting doesnt help, flashing modem through CWM doesnt help. I know for a fact that the simcard it good because other apps that I install can read the sim with no problem, and my WIFI is working like a charm.
Someone got a solution for this? This is already like 4 days ongoing, please any help will be appreciated !!
Im having the same no service selected network issue. I can search and find att and the mobile but when I try to have it connect to att that's the error I get. I have an att SIM card in the phone. Sph l720 SIM unlocked, it didn't ask me for an unlock code or anything like that but I also don't get the invalid SIM card error. I've added the main apn from the att website but that doesn't help and the phone is current set to gsm/umts. If anyone has a fix please let me know, thank you.

Mi Max not showing sim signal No Service

Hi guys,
I've got a Mi Max 64gb, it was working ok and then it auto updated to MIUI 9 and now i get no signal. If I go into setting, it will show my sim name (three) but thats it. It has no signal and I thus can not make or take calls. The status bar at the top says no service.
I purchased the phone second hand and everything was working fine so did a blacklist check just in case and both IMEI come back clear. Also when I switch from fin network automatically to manual, it will find a few networks but will no connect.
Anyone know what can be wrong? Phone has locked bootloader fyi.

Ok so I got permission and unlocked the bootloader, installed TWRP and installed RESURRECTION REMIX 5.8.5 for hydrogen but its still showing no signal. Is there a way to check what can cause the problem as I've tried swapping sim trays (have a faulty one as spares).

I really have no idea what your problem might be, but the panacea in all weird cases, irrespective of the particular symptoms, seems to be to fastboot flash a official global stable rom with the Miflash tool.
Then you have hopefully a base "known state" to start from.
If you still have no signal, you might well have a hardware problem.

Hi,
I'm not any kind of expert at these kinds of (radio signal) problems today, though I do have a background in communications electronics construction (c.a. 1980's !)
If you did a complete format of everything before flashing the ROM, and it still doesn't work, I would guess you have a hardware problem.
Of course you want to double-check that your sim cards work in other phones.
I've had some rather weird problems caused by simcards.
You should even ask for a completely new simcard from some provider, and not put it into any other phone first.
How you could go about verifying that you truly have a hardware problem, without handing it over to a service center of some kind for testing, I really don't know.
Perhaps someone else has expertise in this area?
Otherwise, you just write it off as a loss, or sell it on Ebay for whatever you can get.
same with me. my phone not showing signal. the simcard is working before. it show no simcard after i flash twrp and supersu. the problem happen after restart phone. now i'm stuck searching this solution. help me.

[Solved] IMEI showing as Unknown - No service

Hi everyone.
Recently I have had some issues where sim cards are not working on my phone. At first I thought it was an issue with the sim cards but when I tried the sim in a different phone, it worked fine. I tried numerous restarts, taking the sim out and placing it back in (in case there was an issue with the contacts/sim tray) but this has not solved the issue. By chance I was looking at the phone identity menu and noticed that the IMEI and the IMEI SV fields both say unknown but the device serial number is fine.
I restarted the phone into download mode and checked the System info menu and IMEI number is displayed there but for some reason it is missing in the actual android OS hence I cant connect to the mobile network to make calls etc.
This all started recent after I had come back from abroad (had been using a foreign sim) and tried to use my UK sim. Up until that point, the phone worked fine with the UK and foreign sim. After inserting my UK sim, there was no signal. I got home and tried the sim in my other phone and it worked fine.
I have not modified the phone in anyway (other than flashing an official RUU to fix a boot loop issue - see here ) and it is boot locked and not rooted. After fixing the bootloop issue, I have applied all available OTAs that my phone detected automatically which upgraded the android version to 7.0 (OS 4.28.401.3).
I have tried factory resetting using the menu (not recovery mode) and this has not solved the issue. Any ideas as to how I can fix this IMEI issue?
Many thanks
Rob
Have you checked the apn settings are correct?. Have you checked other UK sim cards in your device that are known to be working?. Do you use a simcard adapter?.

Yep.. tried other simcards thats work in other phones but they wernt working on my phone.. most likely due to the missing IMEI. I also noticed that the colour of the icons on the pulldown tray were red instead of blue and the phone was sluggish when toggling wifi on and off or entering/leaving Airplane mode.
I managed to fix the issue in the end by downloading an RRU and flashing it from SD card. Everything works ok now.
Thanks for your contribution :good:

"No service" error after trying to update!

Okay so I just tried updating manually to Pie using the zip file from this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/zenfone-5z/how-to/zs620kl-fota-update-links-update-20-08-t3831794
Here's where the problem starts. I placed the zip file into my internal storage and rebooted. Sure enough, I got the update message but when I clicked it, it said: "System update failed".
From this point onwards, my phone shows "no service" even when it is able to detect the SIM card. I've put the SIM card in another phone, and it works without any problems. I find this weird because if the update failed, why did it affect the network connectivity?
I tried the following, to no avail:
turning on and back off airplane mode
factory reset
in mobile network settings, I tried manually selecting the network. When I try, it says "No networks found"
dialling *#*#4636#*#* -> Phone information -> "Mobile Radio Power" -> I tried to switch this on but whenever I leave the screen, it goes back off automatically
IMEI number exists. No problems here.
So I used a suggestion from the comments and wiped data and cache from FOTA Service and System Updater, and tried the update. It worked. I'm now on Android 9, still with "no service" error.
I've been trying suggestions all day and it's leading me nowhere. Really frustrating. I'd be thankful if someone can offer some helpful suggestions.
EDIT: It turned out to be a hardware issue. What are the odds? Maybe the software update caused it, idk. Repair guy said something was loose inside, he fixed it within 10 mins. If you guys face the same problem, get it checked with your local Asus authorized service center. Warranty covers everything.
Download the update for asus's website it's about 1.65gb. it would work
You mean the latest Pie update? On the website, it's for Taiwan SKU only. It won't work.

Yes, I was able to upgrade to the Android 9 ROM. That's not the problem. My problem is having no network connectivity whatsoever. As I said, "no service". Persists even after downgrade. I think it might be a hardware issue.

Hi...
I had the same issue 2 times!
First one was after an update, my phone restarted, then "no service" after that! I tried to downgrade, tried to reset it, and no service...
So i sent my phone to Asus authorized service center, they changed the SUB PBA...
I works for exact 30 days and, after a restart becouse the system crashed, it has no network again1
so i sent it to serce center again today...
I updated to Pie on 28-Jan it was stable for 4 days on 3rd feb. It is showing 'no service' i reset the phone but no use. Any please help......

If you've exhausted all your options software-wise, then it's probably a hardware issue. Check it out with an Asus service centre.
Hello everyone! I figured out the issue and the solution to the dreaded no network/no SIM card issue for the ZenFone 5Z. It is not a software problem. It is a hardware problem indeed. The new firmware basically lets the SIM card slot "work properly". If the SIM slot of your phone is defective, this issue will trigger after Pie update.
Why it is happening:
Take a look at the image below (courtesy FCCID.io)
There is a switch (highlighted in red) which "tells" the phone whether a SIM is inserted. When the switch is closed, it means no SIM card is installed. When the switch is opened, it means SIM card is installed. If you insert the SIM tray, it will allow one of the metal to lose contact with the other hence telling the phone to operate SIM signals.
If the top metal cover is pushed down and touches the switch, this SIM enable signal will malfunction causing the issue you all are facing.
Another close up photo (courtesy: FCCID.io)
The solution:
You will need: A SIM ejector tool for removal of the SIM tray, a flashlight and a precision knife (I used a surgical knife since it is thin and rigid and works perfect).
Turn on the flashlight and look at the SIM slot from the side. You will be able to see the switch terminals I am talking about from a different angle. It will be the farthest terminals just a little bit to the left from the mid point. Insert the knife and tilt it very gently keeping your hands steady such that the top metal lifts slightly from the switch contacts. If careful, you will hear a click. Insert SIM and install SIM tray. Cross your fingers and behold! You will get network. I am fairly certain this is going to solve your issue. So if your phone is out of warranty or you don't want to avail warranty for such a silly issue, give this a shot and post whether it worked for you.
You can also check the teardown of the phone at FCCID.io. Key in the FCC ID of ZenFone 5Z - MSQZ01RD.

[SOLVED] Keep losing mobile service

I'm gonna lose my mind.
Last week I did a factory reset. Everything was great for a few days. Then as of Monday, my phone no longer connected to mobile network. (I'm on Visible, which is a Verizon MVNO.)
I tried the same SIM card in another phone, and it worked — but a different SIM card did not work in my phone. So it must be the phone, right?
I looked at About phone > SIM card status:
Network: Visible
Mobile network state: Disconnected
Service state: In service
IMS reg status: Registered
Signal strength: -113 dbm
Network Cell Info Lite app showed the nearest tower and:
SIM state: Ready
Service state: In-Service
I tried resetting network settings and restarting in safe mode, but that didn't help. Visible said to take the phone in to Samsung repair center.
So I did that. They ran a diagnostic, and said everything was fine. They said try factory reset again.
So I factory reset the phone, again, from recovery mode, wiping with cache several times.
After, service was working. Yay!
But then a few hours later, the battery died, and ipon powering back up, I AGAIN no longer have cell service!
Could it be related to adding a work profile? Enabling dev mode?
Any bloody idea what is happening??
I'm loathe to do another factory reset, as it takes me half a day to set up everything again (Work profile authentication, etc.)
Please help save my sanity.
Thanks!

Try playing about with this app, it allows you to force the phone to connect to specific network bands, possible you could force it to reconnect when it drops out
Samsung Band Selection - Apps on Google Play
This app will help you access hidden network settings for forcing band selection

I popped in a SIM from a different carrier, causing phone to restart, then put back the Visible SIM, forcing phone to re-retrieve settings.

Couldve been a CSC issue?
