I would like to get my MSL and sprint won't give it to me. I am on the lease program and just got the Note 10+. Is there any way someone that has a program to tell me what they need from me and they could use it to get the MSL for my phone??? I currently do not have a computer at the moment is the only reason I ask. Thank You in advance.

Pretty sure MSL codes are specific for the phone, so only Sprint can give it to you. Since they won't then I'm afraid your not gonna get very far.
But the reason why they most likely won't give it to you is because the MSL code is the "Master Subsidy Lock". It allows access to very powerful menus that permit changes to phone programming and that could (not necessarily guaranteed) allow you to network/sim unlock the device.
If this is over that APN thing because hotspot functionality is not working, then get a hold of Sprint. Ask them to make sure the feature is added on the account. Once they do that and provision the phone for it the feature should work.
If you are trying to edit the APN to get unlimited hotspot data and bypass the limits they put onto the account (and you agreed too when you signed up for service) then why bother? The plan should have a set amount of high speed LTE data and then it gets reduced to a lower speed for the rest of the month... In effect it's unlimited data.

I like to use phones that tmobile usa doesn't carry because my internet plan will only work with normal phones and phones that tmobile doesnt recognize. Well, I'm using a tmobile dash right now cracked with kavana's rom and I'm wondering if I can change some system information in it that will make the network think that it's another unrecognizeable phone.
Does anyone know how I can do this?
THANKS

Well let me see if I'm getting what you post....
You are basically asking some "magic (app)" so that T mobile doesn't recognize the actual dash. Not recognizing other phone will avoid paying more for your plan right?
This is what I called "Illegal polite undercover fraud request" from my point of view or I'm wrong ? This is not allowed here dude,
There is simply no way of cheating here. The contract (or payment) is identified by the IMSI (SIM Card) - not the device (IMEI) - and the traffic is identified by the APNs you set (GPRS settings). The IMEI of the device is completely useless in that regard.
You cannot cheat - that easy.
Operators are sometimes linking web-applications to the IMEI identifying the device type to optimize services in a device specific (e.g. MMS) way.
Changing the IMEI is simply
illegal
very hard to do and you will not find any service that will do it for you, neither at XDA-developers nor at those sites that deal with SIM Unlocking. They have the best knowledge of how to deal with the encrypted areas that safeguard the operators settings linked to the HW of the device.
If you could succeed to "fake" the IMEI to be of another device-type, some services that depend on the correct evaluation of this (MMS, other services) mail fail on your device because they do not match the real needs of the device.
If operators detect bogus IMEIs in their network, they may simply refuse to serve this device and you cannot log into the network any longer.
Spend your efforts on something more useful than trying to cheat the operator.
ok for the simple fact of using my brain and knowing how any computer system works.... yes. yes there is a way to make ur phone appear to be another its just not an app, it has to do with someting alot deeper... but that thats all im saying it is possible but immoral im sure.

Thanks dude for the explanation, I think this guy wanted that us start discussing the "changing IMEI" topic .

Anything is possible if you pay the right people. Knowledge how to change the encrypted block consistently is rare and kept secret as those guys build a business around it.
But changing the IMEI is so useless imho - why waste time doing so? Especially as it will not even help you to get free calls or data transfer.
i know what OP is getting at. its similar to tzones. just go on to your tmobile account and change the phone to an old one that uses tzones such as the razor, if that doesnt work try going to a store and asking for that service by showing them an old phone. after the service has been activated all you have to do is change your network settings (internet2.voicestream.com) it worked for me for years, but sadly moved on to android which uses a 3g network. good luck.
Yeah - that's what I say:
you can configure services that are used on the network
but you cannot hide the device you are using from the network itself
Any messing around making things seem different than they are will get you strange behavior of application services - but it will not save you any money.

So, basically you have told him the secret . Does this save you money at all? or it doesn't matter.

This an "APN" I talked about earlier. Operators have several for different intended services (e.g. internet), but they try to keep things simple and reduce the amount of APN recently (so finally you have only one).
Per APN (Access Point Name):
The IP routing may be restricted (e.g. only to the mail server)
Charging may be different (kb/$)
The use of certain APN is restricted to you user profile, i.e. not everyone can use any APN
Depending on how strict the operators are handling the last point and how close they observe the generated traffic per user you may occasionally be lucky to sneak through with your traffic.
Mind however that for all traffic the operators are logging the IMSI (SIM Card) that generates it - so also for prepaid cards it may suddenly happen that your money is gone for old bytes that have been found linked to your SIM.
Noob here so Im just wanted to see what the benefit of having the MSL number for the EVO is?
Basically it is a password for several "hidden" settings for the phone.
(ie ##DATA#)
I think you can use the MSL to roam off verizon towers instead of sprint and alter settings in the phone. I'm assuming settings that involve how your phone communicates with the Sprint network.
You can adjust several settings that unless you know what you are doing, you shouldn't mess with. Sometimes there is a need, but most of the time there isn't.
For the Hero, there was a ring delay and with the MSL you could lower the time that the phone checked for a call, lowering or removing the delay. For the EVO, I think you can get it to roam on Verizon towers as said above, but not sure that is such a good thing.
If you have it, keep it because you may need it, if not, it's probably never going to be needed. If you do need it and don't have it, just call Sprint tech support and ask for it. Usually they give it out without a problem.
Thanks for the feed back fellas! I have my MSL number and just didnt know what to do with it thats all. I will probably just tuck it away and forget about it.
Put it on a post it note under the battery.

Enter MSL
Change Home Orig., and Roam Orig. to EVRC-B
Hit Menu and Commit Changes
This is the main thing I have seen people use there MSL to change. Apparently the signal is stronger with B. You are normaly getting signal from A. The other thing if I recall correctly is that all the A towers are also equiped with B equipment so even B is the better choice? Sorry its been a month since I did this mod if you search over at the PPCGeeks forum I know you will find it in the tips thread that is stickied at the top.
My friend can't get a smartphone because of the data package, so I was going to buy him one off eBay without a contract. Can he use it without activation? Some devices have an option to skip activation, if not stock, then maybe a Rom.
I'm pretty sure you still need to activate it, but there shouldn't be a problem. It just wont use the data network because the account isn't authorized to. Your friend can still use wifi though.
Let us know how it works out.
Are you asking if your friend can get an Inc2 to use for calls and wifi but not activate a data plan? If so, Verizon will not let this happen...they require you to activate a data plan on devices like this. If you're simply asking if he can use the phone with no calling plan, just wifi...the answer is yes. You can bypass activation.

I've heard this response from Verizon sales when I asked them if I could buy a smart phone from them without the data plan, but I'm pretty sure you can buy any phone from a third party and activate it. I did it with an iPhone on T-Mobile years ago.

You'd have to to root, unlock GSM and use a different carrier (sim card) you can also make calls while connected to wifi by using the app GrooveIP
If you get the Incredible 2 and are stuck on the activation screen that wants you to make the special call to activate it & can't get into any menus of the actual phone....
Hit the call button to make the call to set it up, right when you hear a ringback sound hit end call, it will fail and beep twice, do this 2 more times, 3 times in all, skip activation will come up as an option or something like that, you'll notice it, skip from setting up everything and ignore everything else it shows you, you will be in the homescreens and have bypassed activation.

Just got my new TMO M8 direct from HTC and I love it..... except for one problem which is not exclusive to this phone but I've searched everywhere and can't find a solution. Since this is not my every day phone I don't need a regular phone & texting plan. I only need a data plan... so I signed up for T Mobile's $10 data match plan which gives me 5GB/mo.... seemed like a great idea except apparently TMO doesn't allow smartphone devices to use this plan only tablets or hotspots. I've searched and searched and tried every combination of APN's but none of them work... when I'm changing the apn settings either data is totally disconnected or when it connects and I try a browser it prompts me to "Sign into Network" and sends me to the "upsell" site. Is there any way to spoof a tablet or hotspot? I know there are browser plugins that change the user agent but this seems to be happening on a system level. Is it possible to edit a system database entry, etc? Any help to point me in the right direction would be appreciated.

You're not going to be able to trick the carrier into thinking you're using another device. Continually attempting to do so also will get you flagged and you may come under scrutiny with the carrier so I'd suggest you pay for a rate plan like the rest of the android community, or utilize WiFi hotspots as much as possible.

Enable WiFi Tethering on the device you use as your primary phone and let your data only devices utilize it's unlimited data plan. That way, you don't have to pay for anything for your data only device.
hello everyone I am new to the forum so any help would be greatly appreciated. I have a note 10 plus with sprint. I am trying to add a new APN so I can use unlimited free hotspot. All the apn's are greyed out and I can't reset to default or add a new apn. What can I do to fix this or is there any way to fix it??? I recently upgraded from a note 9 and I could click to the left of the blue circle and it would allow me to edit the settings but it doesn't work anymore on this phone and I'm assuming when it went from Android 9 to Android 10 is when it stopped working all together. Has anyone figured out how to do something with it that doesn't require the phone being rooted??

Unless things have changed (as far as I know they haven't) if you have one of the unlimited data plans (which is pretty much all they have) then you already have unlimited hotspot data.
The unlimited data plans they have offer a set amount hotspot data measured in gigs at full LTE speeds. After that your hotspot speeds are reduced until your next billing cycle. Because it is unlimited there is no need to use some form of "trick" to get something that is already included with the plan they offer.
If for some reason the hotspot isn't working and it is supposed to be included in your plan then contact sprint and make sure your account (and phone) are provisioned for the service.
Now if by chance your trying to sneak one past sprint and get unlimited high speed hotspot data that was not included in the plan you agreed too... Then I would recommend you reconsider. While it can be argued that this can be considered theft, it would be most definitely an intentional, blatant and willful breach of your agreement that you entered into with Sprint.
