I successfully flashed the CDMA Desire with a Sprint Radio off the Evo. It's baseband 2.15.00.09.01
I also installed PRL 60677 from sprint. I also tried the Cyanogen MOD.
It's currently running the alltel ROM so I can get access to the dialing codes in the PRL but even though I flashed the RADIO and the PRL it still shows the network as alltel and it won't let me get access in menu>settings>Wireless networks>mobile network
I can turn it on. But it either seems to take a long time to turn off, or go off by itself, not sure which. But once its on it is greyed out and won't let me get access to it.
I thought maybe it was the PRI, but I don't see how that could be. Is there some sort of Initial Program Loader from alltel doing this can someone tell me why it won't pick up on a sprint network that I have for cdma like connecting or sharing a connection etc... and won't get off U.S. Cellular network?
I might just try flashing to verizon and see what happens just to observe. It should be a lot easier than flashing to sprint.
edit: I did change all the dialing codes to sprint in the ## menu btw. I used the codes from another sprint Phone.
EDIT: It also won't turn off always when I hit Airplane mode and constantly says "Turning on...." and won't give access when to "Mobile Network" when you hold down the power button and that menu comes up.
I used the original Stock RUU to switch back. It changed the baseband and everything else back and also got rid of my clockwork recovery in the process
The only thing it didn't change is the PRL. I had to redownload that and manually rechange the codes in the ## secret dialing menu's.
As far as I understand I will need to change the esn or have this esn to sprint to be able to get it working on a sprint network. It is very difficult thing to do so I will have to postpone this. I'm thinking there might be some code or something in one of the abstraction layers or HAL layers that is preventing you from changing the esn somewhow... not really sure but that seems like the best place for me to look as it is the interface between the software and hardware. The hardware is there and able to do it, so it must be the most basic software or HAL that is preventing me from doing it I am guessing. BTW this is not illegal. I own my phone. If anything it's illegal for someone to sell me crap that doesn't work the way it should because of bogus programming that's been put on my phone to prevent me from using it! And nikola tesla invented the radio btw where is the money and credit he deserves for this?!
Hey man,
I am trying to do something like this for my wife. I'll let you know how it goes once I get the phone. In the meantime, maybe this might help you?

I know it's not quite the same - taking VZW phone onto Sprint Network, but I thought it might help you out.
I'll post my experience later when I get the phone next week.
Thanks,

I don't think that's quite the same thing. I read through the post and a lot of it didn't make a whole lot of sense. Generally you have to have a compabible esn with the network you want to use. Every carrier has a database of all the esn's that are registered and available to use their service. If you try to connect to their service their software will recognize the esn as false and not grant service even if you install all the correct radio's/basebands, PRL files, Firmware, etc... it just won't work because you don't have an esn in their database so you have no authority to connect to their network. So you have to change the esn. But it's not such a simple thing to change an esn. I'm guessing its written in hexadecimal somewhere in the registry, but maybe not. There are certain command sets like the Haye's command set that only apply to CPU or other hardware like modem/Radio. There is an RIL which communicates between a driver, the modem/radio, and the OS. I'm guessing the esn is communicated and retrieved by the RIL layer that communicates via proxy & a driver or in one other PPP protocol that apparently only communicates with the network at certain times suspiciously. That's because the ESN is apparently located in the radio/modem and people have successfully changed their esn by changing their modem and installing a different one. A modem is essentially an ultra small electronic radio. In the same way that a radio picks up signals out of the air and converts to sound, a modem picks up signals also and can convert to sound as well as internet data, text messaging, etc...
If your radio doesn't have the proper command sets it can not pick up on certain signals such as for example sprint 1900 MHz for a sprint radio/baseband version vs a 900MHz signal for a 900 MHz Verizon. Each carriers software might be set up to block the other carriers signals in certain ways. For example each carrier has roaming agreements with the other carriers so that when you go out of your host carriers network say from Verizon into Sprint then you can "roam" and still get coverage. Sprint in this case provides the coverage and therefore they have an agreement to use each others network to provide better coverage. They may also pay each other small fees to use their network. Roaming, carrier type, cell number, mobile network operator, ip addresses, etc... can all be preprogrammed into CDMA handsets through ## secret dialing modes. This only works on CDMA handsets or in CDMA mode on your phone (i.e. not GSM). Usually on HTC devices you press ##775# to update a PRL file which is the Preferred Roaming List. That is usually easy enough, but this may not always update all your phones programming and you may have to do so manually through other ## dialing codes such as Primary HA secondary HA MCC (Mobile Country code) MNC (Mobile Network code) etc... Even if you do all that though it serves no purpose if the esn isn't registered to the network that you want to use. Generally only Cricket and MetroPCs in the USA will register a CDMA esn to use on their handsets. All the other carriers like Sprint, Att, Verizon, etc... generally won't do it, hence you can't get CDMA service from them if you have a CDMA capable handset even if you update all of your files as there is a program that is run on behalf of the carriers that manually checks your phones ESN/MEID/etc... to see if you have the "proper Credentials" or authorization to use their network. In this case the authorization is given on whether or not if your ESN is in their database and that it aslo can be in their database but blacklisted or grey listed in the case of you have an innactive account and need to pay them to get it "white Listed" or if you have a debt on your account or the phone is reported stolen it may be "black Listed". Usually you can flash to Cricket or MetropCs fairly easily though and they will even do it for you for a small fee.
I was hoping this would be easy, but so far no such luck...
I have a Rhod400 (Sprint World Phone) that works good at home in the USA on CDMA with both WinMo (custom ROM) and XDAndroid.
We are on a family vacation for the next two weeks in Denmark so I figured I would pick up a pre-paid GSM SIM and have local phone/data service.
The phone portion works OK, but I'm not having any luck getting GPRS data going.
The provider is Lebara and I positive I've correctly set up the APN info as it's documented on their website.
I've tried with both the stock RIL and the newer RIL written by hyc. I've also tried the .39 kernel, but that seems to lock up as soon as it gets a signal lock.
I only want data because my kids would like to do some geocaching while we are here (huge bragging rights no doubt).
Any ideas that can push me in the direction of a combination that might work under these circumstances would be most appreciated.
I'm not afraid of digging around in a shell if that's necessary.
You don't mention if data works in WinMo on this "Lebara" provider's network.
If you can't get data in WinMo, I'd say your chances in Android are 'slim-to-none'. You're also sure the prepaid SIM has a data pack, it's not voice-only?

Great minds...
I don't have data in WinMo (checked after I posted).
They definitely have data service, it's 49 DKK (about $10) for 1GB.
After digging through their website in minute detail it appears I need to enable data via their website. But web access requires them mailing (actual postal letter) you a password. I'm going to call customer service in the morning to see if they can enable it for me, otherwise I think I'm screwed.
As always, arrrghhh with the right direction. Thanks!
Many of you are aware of a thread in the Focus S section of this forum about someone with their Focus S getting VVM to work. However, it wasn't the most helpful thread to replicating it. I have since replicated this on a different device (the Focus Flash), so I wanted to post something here to let more people know.
Thanks to davezaff for the idea.
Here is how I did it on my Focus Flash. You will probably need a way to edit the APNs.
1. Update to 7740
2. Update to 8107
3. Insert sim card into an AT&T Android LTE phone (I used skyrocket)
4. Go to att.com and switch plan to Data Pro 4g LTE plan. I had to call to switch since it wasn't working on the website.
5. Setup VVM on Android LTE phone (don't know if this is necessary, but this is what I did....make sure friend knows the VM password so they can re-add it when they put their sim card back in.
6.Insert sim card back into Windows Phone
7. Call Voicemail
8. Wait for VVM to show up on phone (mine showed up after calling voicemail).
9. If sync error, edit the APN as follows
APN settings (delete the internet_line APN)
Create a new APN
APN Name: pta
Profile Category: internet (always on)
APN: pta
Auth type: None
Username:
Password:
Proxy address: proxy.mobile.att.net
Proxy domain:
Proxy port: 80
I now have working VVM on AT&T with my Samsung Focus Flash. My internet tethering still works (applied the Interop unlock + tethering hack from XDA). I have not tested MMS since I did this, but the MMS APN was untouched.
So they have tied vvm with their stupid data plans, how nice. So I can pay $20 for 300mb + vvm or I can pay $10 for unlimited data and traditional vm... ATT is so dumb.
Moved To WP7 General
This is not development, its more of a guide. Please post such threads in the WP7 General section
For the normal person, it is pay $30 for 3GB of data with traditional VM or pay $30 for 3GB with VVM. The only difference is one plan has the word LTE at the end.
how can one even get the 8107 update on the samsung focus s? i tried the old force update method (disconnecting the internet connection) with zune, and that hasn't worked...

Yes, and just download the English only language pack.
i already updated to 8107, but im asking if the vvm works for the titan, i also don't know anyone with an LTE android phone
Does this work if you don't setup VVM on the android device first? I was thinking of just calling AT&T and asking to be switched to the 4G plan.
Get it working without an LTE device
OK, I got this to work on my Lumia 800. Furthermore, I didn't have an LTE device.
What I did have however, is an AT&T store that caters extensively to my place of work (a software company). They are really nice, understand unusual requests, and try everything to help.
I did the following:
1. Upgrade the OS as per the original post.
2. Call the nice AT&T store that I mentioned above. Asked them to put me on an LTE plan. (I was already on an enterprise plan, so I was moved to the same enterprise plan but the LTE version. Cost of my plan remained unchanged).
I explained that I was doing some app development, and planned to be swapping phones from time to time, some of which are LTE phones. (I also have a microsim adapter, so moving between phones that take microsim and regular sim is not an issue for me).
They asked if I'd like VVM provisioning. I said yes.
They told me that they would change my listed phone to a blank IMEI (basically change the IMEI listed on my account to a blank IMEI that's associated with an LTE phone for provisioning purposes). I don't know if this is something all stores would be willing to do.
3. In the APN settings, I changed my APN to pta. I did NONE of the other settings mentioned (proxy, proxy port, and everything else are BLANK).
Now I have Visual Voicemail on my Lumia 800!
Hmm so why is vvm only available to LTE phones/network I want to get this.
Sent from my SGH-i937 using Board Express Pro.

I wonder if this blank IMEI is a special IMEI that at&t has to test LTE devices on accounts or something. I wonder if this IMEI would also work on other accounts as well. Hmmm.
I don't suppose that IMEI is something you could share possibly? I mean if its not a real phone, and can work on multiple accounts, it would be very nice to (selectively) share it so that some of us can get VVM.

I agree, since I just called asking for essentially this setup and they deniened any special IMEI.

So i also have an 800 and asked them to provision me for HSPA+ recently, so they switched my data plan to one that was supposed to be able to access it (i have no idea if it really can - that's a whole different can of worms). What did they switch your plan to? If you look online and hit "recent usage", you can see under "Additional Data Purchased Usage" your data lines with the plan code. My code is "HSSMTD4O" Just wanted to see if i could skip the "call att" step.
Thought I would share my experience also..
I was able to get VVM working on my Focus Flash. Luckily I have a friend that works at the ATT store. He just took a Samsung Note scanned the IMEI and added that as my phone. Then he enabled LTE and VVM. I rebooted phone and went in the the phone tile, and VVM prompted me for password. I put in password and all has been good.
The easiest way would probably be to borrow a friends VVM supported phone and put your sim in it, then have them add VVM to your account.
I did not have to add any APN's or make any changes to the phone.
Getting it working without a LTE device and without AT&T in your pocket
So, I decided to try and get VVM setup on my Focus S today, but I have no friends with AT&T and the local store was unwilling to help in the fashion outlined above.
So what to do? Well the main thing you need for this is the IMEI number from an Android LTE phone. So I asked a couple friends that don't live close by, and none of them had a LTE phone.
So I searched the internet for those "Get unlock Codes" websites, specifically for tutorials on LTE phones, and some of them show the IMEI number.
So I went into chat support and told them I needed a LTE plan with visual voicemail, and they asked for the IMEI number, I gave it to them, and then 2 minutes later VVM is now provisioned and working properly.
Yeah so I ended up adding the IMEI of a random Galaxy Note that I do not own. It was dead simple to do it online through tech support chat. After that, just called up voicemail, waiting a second or two, hung up, and then my phone prompted me for my voicemail password and automatically enabled visual voicemail. I realize that AT&T's system does not check for duplicate IMEIs across the network, so you can throw the same IMEI onto any number of phones and AT&T wouldn't know a thing (until they start looking of course).
I did have to change my APN to "pta" to get it to sync properly, but after that it was all smooth sailing.
Now I've got Visual Voicemail on my Titan and Lumia.
I am glad some of you were able to get it to work. The big issue I had before starting this thread was getting the APN settings. After getting VVM enabled, it couldnt connect until I messed with the APN. Glad I was able to help y'all!
Just got my new TMO M8 direct from HTC and I love it..... except for one problem which is not exclusive to this phone but I've searched everywhere and can't find a solution. Since this is not my every day phone I don't need a regular phone & texting plan. I only need a data plan... so I signed up for T Mobile's $10 data match plan which gives me 5GB/mo.... seemed like a great idea except apparently TMO doesn't allow smartphone devices to use this plan only tablets or hotspots. I've searched and searched and tried every combination of APN's but none of them work... when I'm changing the apn settings either data is totally disconnected or when it connects and I try a browser it prompts me to "Sign into Network" and sends me to the "upsell" site. Is there any way to spoof a tablet or hotspot? I know there are browser plugins that change the user agent but this seems to be happening on a system level. Is it possible to edit a system database entry, etc? Any help to point me in the right direction would be appreciated.

You're not going to be able to trick the carrier into thinking you're using another device. Continually attempting to do so also will get you flagged and you may come under scrutiny with the carrier so I'd suggest you pay for a rate plan like the rest of the android community, or utilize WiFi hotspots as much as possible.

Enable WiFi Tethering on the device you use as your primary phone and let your data only devices utilize it's unlimited data plan. That way, you don't have to pay for anything for your data only device.
After many unfruitful hours on helplines both carrier (TracFone) and Google helpdesk I thought maybe there would be some help here from a person who knows more than a diagnostic tree book. 4G voice just quit, wont dial even, just immediately says call ended. 3G still works and they both still do data. I've reset, cleared cache on phone app and connectivity services, restarted, airplane on and off, basically everything I could think of short of a factory reset.
I think this is the most significant thing but it was disregarded by all call operators: I swapped the sim with my wife's phone and it didn't help.
To my limited understanding this made my phone hers in the eyes of the carrier.
So I felt that this eliminated the carrier as the fault, unless they have some file that says don't allow 4G voice on Pixel 2xl's.
The only other thing I can think of beyond some Google conspiracy to make me buy a new phone is the Qualcomm com chip 4G voice parts have quit.
So anyhow I throw myself at your feet and hope someone has some knowledge or experience to relate.
If I could afford a new phone I'd just dump it.
Thanks!
Does your wife use the same carrier as you? If yes, can you try a sim from a different carrier? Did your sim work in your wife's phone?
> To my limited understanding this made my phone hers in the eyes of the carrier.
Not quite. The carrier can still identify the phone by IMEI.
> unless they have some file that says don't allow 4G voice on Pixel 2xl's.
Actually, the carriers often have lists of models that they white- or blacklist for VoLTE. And the phone's firmware must contain the correct configuration for VoLTE on that specific carrier. But it's unusual that it stops after having worked.
> the Qualcomm com chip 4G voice parts have quit.
I don't think there's much hardware involved that isn't also used for other things. A hardware problem seems very unlikely.

TF went over the IMEI several times and said it was cleared for 4GLTE.
The problem was solved by moving to Mint, not only do I again have VoLTE but the call clarity is incredible, I actually had to turn down the volume.
I filed with the FCC and started a chargeback with VISA against TF.
Thanks for your reply!
