I have pixel 3a xl with bootloader unlocked, no root and stock kernel, its possible relock bootloader?
I always suggest flashing the Google factory image (not the OTA images), including the full factory reset before relocking the bootloader.
But yes, if you are 1000% sure your entire system is stock, then you can relock the bootloader.
I wouldn't do it... If anything ever gets truly fubared you will be glad it's unlocked.
If you lock it you lock out a few additional possibilities to recover your phone.

Can I flash stock image from Google's site without unlocking bootloader? My phone is defected and came without a recovery image in the software meaning I cannot update to 4.0.4 or perform factory wipes, so does this mean i cannot unlock bootloader? I need to unlock bootloader to flash stock 4.0.4 image correct?
The recovery and bootloader are seperate things. If you can boot into the bootloader you can unlock it. Hold down both volume up and down and power. It should boot you into the bootloader.
Yeah i'm pretty new to this so thanks for the response. I can get into fastboot mode by holding the power and volume buttons down but entering recovery mode does not work. I know that during the unlocking the bootloader process it causes a factory wipe, but theres no recovery image on my phone for my phone to revert back to, so what would happen?
You dont need to go into recovery to unlock your bootloader. You do it from fastboot itself. After unlocking you can flash the system image which includes the recovery.
Follow this tutorial: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=25477039&postcount=1 It will walk you through the whole process.
Thanks a lot. Im in the middle of unlocking the bootloader now and that link will really help me flash the stock image. thanks!
No problem. If you get stuck either PM me or post to this thread again.
just unlocked bootloader and flashed stock 4.0.4 flawlessly. thanks for the help. fixed all my problems!
I've been advised that I should use both the unlock and critical unlock command so that when I flash the system image it also updates my bootloader. But I want to relock it after so Google Pay and everything works. I don't want to root or anything else. Would I have to again enter two different commands to relock everything? What are the ADB commands?
The instructions are clear, to lock the bootloader you have to run only ONE command: fastboot flashing lock
Beware, you have to be 100% stock, without any modifications!

Follow that guide and after you have to type in fastboot "fastboot oem lock" to relock the bootloader.
PD: You will see a message that you booted a modified OS and that's normal, you will boot.
I have unlocked bootloader. Now i want to lock the bootloader again. Will it wipe my phone's data?

it is not possible to relock the bootloader, from Fastboot directly ... The device will be corrupted later. To relock the bootloader, use the restore tool which will return the phone to its factory configuration ... Under ROM 10.0.7 .. The bootloader will be relock ... and all the data on the phone will be erased. It's the only way.

I tried re-locking the bootloader using fastboot and it happened successfully.
I am on Beta 2. It got successful because i haven't modified my system. Also it did wipe all the data.

is it safe to relock bootloader,im going to sell my phone on swappa.
Yes it's safe to relock bootloader as long as Google's stock factory image has been flashed before hand.
Thanks
