Maybe that's your issue, I'm on the Verizon firmware.

For some reason, video calling was blocked on my account. VZW support on Twitter changed my settings, I rebooted, and Bingo!

Just got off phone with Verizon tier 2 tech support. They say the video calling feature is blocked and their system won't allow him to unblock it. He talked to his mgr. and was told that because it's not a Verizon branded phone it can't be unlocked.
Anyone know or tried to do a fresh install of VZW software from sammobile or some other firmware source? How'd that go? Anything special need to be done? Did it fix the issue?

Hello all,
I have a Galaxy S3 I747M from Telus. I was wondering if there's any way to enable the video calling feature like its international variant?
Just to be clear: network video calling, not third-party apps like Skype or Fring.
Thanks

besides having the proper dialer app to make network video calls, isn't this also limited to your wireless carrier? i'm not 100% on this but i think you'd also need a video calling feature activated on your account with your network.

It works great by the way.

Hmm I just noticed my rogers sgs3 doesn't have video calling either like the sgs2 did. I'll have to play around as I'm sure I saw it originally. Also you should note that most carriers charge per minute. I used it last year and it was 40 cents a minute when I could have just used google video chat or Skype !

I use the mic for voice recognition instead of typing on the keyboard and the mic icon was always on the keyboard until after my phone was updated by OTA accidentally (I hit the wrong button when I was on wifi). I can't get the mic icon back no matter what I tried in the keyboard settings. I even tried a factory reset and the mic icon is still missing and I have to do an extra step to get to the mic icon. Anyone else have this problem and were you able to correct it? It's an at&t note 2 SGH i317 Android 4.1.2 I317UCAMH3

That does not work. What it does is enables the mic and afterwards reverts back to the "T" or text icon. I did a factory reset of the phone with no change I.e. can't get mic symbol as default.

Weird. Well until you update to 4.3 you will probably have to manually select it. The only other thing to do would be factory reset.

I am looking forward to rooting my phone. I want to be able to use it on Straight Talk and T-Mobile prepaid SIMs and be able to do some light tethering. What is a good ROM to go with (there are so many).?
As a first step, I just got my phone unlocked at a small store that sells many prepaid SIM plans and also repair phones. They are licensed in NY and gave me a bill of sale with imei # on it for factory unlocking my i317. It was done with a usb cable to their computer and they say it is a permanent unlock.
Is there anyway I can tell if that is true or not?
Did you solve the Mic issue on keyboard? I noticed you don't have secondary keys on the Samsung keyboard..I have the codes you can enter to enable them,if you want them..
Mic symbol issue remains. I was in another att store with a note 2 with samw issue. Codes? Sure if it helps. How do I enter them?

My Note 3 call log does not show state/city on both incoming/outgoing calls.
To my surprise my wife's unlocked AT&T Note 2 (same Android 4.3) shows state and city!
Called T-M and they want $4 "caller ID" per month for that!
Is there a free application for Note 3 to show the call's origin/destination? Don't need anything fancy just add this simple info to the call log.

If they do why AT&T phone shows all info?
Because AT&T controls their network. Different network different rules.
Att only shows city/state for non phone book numbers. Tmo's charged package for 4 bucks will deliver the actual name if it can find one (just like landlines), otherwise city and state.

This is an interesting comparison. Let's get a bit more technical.
Since we have similar hardware AT&T firmware version simply shows call info by default? In another words if I had unlocked Note 3 from AT&T (or reflash mine with non T-Mobile firmware) it would show the call info same way as AT&T Note 2 does?

It has everything to do with the provider and not the hardware you are using. T-Mobile blocks the information unless you pay for it. AT&T does not.

apparently if you flash the carrier's firmware (assuming you bought the unlocked version of the phone) then you can get the wifi calling features for that carrier. There are a bunch of threads that have d/l links you can check out and ask in-depth questions about it.
HD calling is standard, and is enabled by default on the unlocked version, it's just called voLTE calling instead of HD calling.
Thabks so much for the info. One follow-up - Am I supposed to have a setting somewhere for VoLTE? I searched settings and don't see it anywhere.

it will let u unlock given your device is eligible.. vzw devices however dont have the option since according to vzw after so many days it will be automatically unlocked so no need to include it in settings like tmb does

im sure theres a time requirement.. most carriers have them.. i would check online for tmb device unlock policies if u want specifics.. every carrier has their unlock policies online.. its the best way to fibd out since most the time ppl on the internet will just tell u wat they believe it is and even reps half the time make stuff up to get you off the phone n dont actually look up the policies.. this is coming from a quality rep for a major carrier lol
