I bought my s9+ from Best Buy and threw in my AT&T sim... everything works (though my signal seems weaker than my iPhone had) except for there is no advanced calling menu. I'd like to enable HD calling and WiFi calling if possible. Does anyone know of a way to do so?
Thanks!

I should note I searched the s8 forum and I couldn't find anyone who successfully did it on last year's model, either. Hoping for the best though!

apparently if you flash the carrier's firmware (assuming you bought the unlocked version of the phone) then you can get the wifi calling features for that carrier. There are a bunch of threads that have d/l links you can check out and ask in-depth questions about it.
HD calling is standard, and is enabled by default on the unlocked version, it's just called voLTE calling instead of HD calling.
Thabks so much for the info. One follow-up - Am I supposed to have a setting somewhere for VoLTE? I searched settings and don't see it anywhere.

Flash the ATT firmware for your model

Just curious about this question - because I would really want to use this with T-Mobile.
So, a few days ago I noticed that an aquintance of mine was using an ATT Samsung Note with T-Mobile. I asked him - but you are only getting Edge (2G), right? So he says - "No! I flashed the GSM version modem, and I am getting HSPA+ (4G)", or whatever you call it.
I was shocked! Amazing solution.
Do we have this?
Thanks
No. The AT&T model is completely different in terms of SoC.. their radios will not work for us. You can do like I am and use it on T-Mobile with an accompanying hotspot. Really not bad.

Thank you ! So making calls, texts, MMS is all fine, but DATA will only work on EDGE (2G)?
Also, what is "hotspot"?
Thanks again!

Yes sir, and I have found 2G is not nearly as bad as I once thought. A hotspot is just a device that gets 3G and broadcasts it as a wifi signal that your phone can use for data. On the T-Mobile website they are under "Mobile Broadband"

Has anyone found any information on if the T-Mobile version will come with the built-in WiFi calling feature. I know it has been added to the HTC one, wondering if the gs4 would get the same feature.

Even my Vibrant (Galaxy S1) has it on T-Mobile so it's probably a safe bet.

Yeah but know they skipped it with the nexus 4 so I didn't want to assume, but idk if someone had heard word about something I hadn't.
The only reason the nexus 4 didn't have it was because it's supposed to be pure Google without carrier interference I believe. The s4 should have it as it's a tmobile phone, not a Google phone sold by tmobile (if that's a good way to put it)
Yes, it has wifi calling. even says so on the website.

Got mine today, and can confirm for sure it does.
It doesn't work with a normal simple card that's been cut to the size of a micro. I did that w my old sim and i get a error message saying I need to upgrade mi sim card. However I could careless, ill update it later this week. Maybe.

WiFi calling works on any plan, if the phone has it. I dunno about mobile hotspot, I tried to turn it on and got a "you have to have this service on your plan" message. I think it's a separate thing you have to pay for, which is all the more reason to root&install an app from the play store that does it.

Thanks for the info. Mobile hotspot is more important to me but it might be moot since I'm ordering an att S4 to unlock and work with my tmobile sim. If it doesn't I'll return it and get the tmobile S4.

Let me just say this. I am an UNLOCKED phone user. Always have been. BUT here is where I got tired of the BS with data speeds and such. SO I took the plunge to a TMO branded device with the proper bands in it now.
I suggest doing the same for everyone who is NOT international frequently. It is just a waste. I want the 64gb version, but without the proper bands? Not willing to do that to myself AGAIN.
Is it capable of Tmobile VOLTE? If so is it a hardware thing and can work regardless of rom (in my case 4.4.3 gpe)? Or must I use sense?

T-Mobile just released VoLTE in San Francisco. You have to wait until they release it in your area.

HTC One M8 does support it and it works great for me on T-Mobile's network. If you are using the stock rom, there will be a little "HD" icon at the bottom right of the contact image when you make a call on VOLTE. It's also only supported with other phones that can do VOLTE, so keep that in mind.
Is it ROM dependant? Do i need to be on stock sense?

I think you are describing "HD Voice" (where both ends of a call use a different codec that sounds better).
VoLTE is where the phone uses the LTE data connection for a phone call (like WiFi calling, but different).
As far as I know, VoLTE is not currently available on the M8. It is not known if a firmware update from HTC can bring VoLTE to the M8, but I sure hope they can.

Note3 supports it which I am not sure if all snap800 SOC's support it. I would venture to say that 801 and beyond will for sure though. But OTOH, knowing carriers and their greed they might advertise some other phone as the first to support it and not enable on a phone capable of supporting it.

What firmware version do you have? Mines c185 no volte. It drops from 4g LTE to 4g when placing a call.
Edit. Just thrown a curve ball. Made another phone call in the same house and the 4g LTE remained. Weird?
On the unlocked note10+ running a verizon sim card in the device. For the life of me I cannot locate the video calling switch to enable it on this device. If someone could walk me through it i would greatly appreciate it.

Maybe that's your issue, I'm on the Verizon firmware.
I am on stock VZW FW, but I found my problem...
For some reason, video calling was blocked on my account. VZW support on Twitter changed my settings, I rebooted, and Bingo!

Just got off phone with Verizon tier 2 tech support. They say the video calling feature is blocked and their system won't allow him to unblock it. He talked to his mgr. and was told that because it's not a Verizon branded phone it can't be unlocked.
Anyone know or tried to do a fresh install of VZW software from sammobile or some other firmware source? How'd that go? Anything special need to be done? Did it fix the issue?
