I use the mic for voice recognition instead of typing on the keyboard and the mic icon was always on the keyboard until after my phone was updated by OTA accidentally (I hit the wrong button when I was on wifi). I can't get the mic icon back no matter what I tried in the keyboard settings. I even tried a factory reset and the mic icon is still missing and I have to do an extra step to get to the mic icon. Anyone else have this problem and were you able to correct it? It's an at&t note 2 SGH i317 Android 4.1.2 I317UCAMH3

That does not work. What it does is enables the mic and afterwards reverts back to the "T" or text icon. I did a factory reset of the phone with no change I.e. can't get mic symbol as default.

I see exactly the same screenshot you posted. If I press the mic icon (no matter how short or long), it enables voice typing but reverts back to the T icon after voice recognition is finished.
Weird. Well until you update to 4.3 you will probably have to manually select it. The only other thing to do would be factory reset.

What advantage do you get based on a N7105 rom? N7105 is international model and the frequencies are very different than I317? Just tryin to learn so I can choose which rom to go with.

The advantage is you get rid of all the att crap. You pretty much turn it into a non carrier branded phone. The att radio is the same so LTE etc works like it should.

I am looking forward to rooting my phone. I want to be able to use it on Straight Talk and T-Mobile prepaid SIMs and be able to do some light tethering. What is a good ROM to go with (there are so many).?
As a first step, I just got my phone unlocked at a small store that sells many prepaid SIM plans and also repair phones. They are licensed in NY and gave me a bill of sale with imei # on it for factory unlocking my i317. It was done with a usb cable to their computer and they say it is a permanent unlock.
Is there anyway I can tell if that is true or not?
Did you solve the Mic issue on keyboard? I noticed you don't have secondary keys on the Samsung keyboard..I have the codes you can enter to enable them,if you want them..
Mic symbol issue remains. I was in another att store with a note 2 with samw issue. Codes? Sure if it helps. How do I enter them?

Yes, it does work with AT&T and any other Sim cards. It is completely unlock
just like using the code from T-mo.
However, you HAVE to be on UVALK8 or lower for this method to work.
It will NOT work with LL4, as they patch the "hole".
This method is some months old and from time to time somebody resurface it, but that is not bad as people tend to forget.

Ok SO I could not find a proper thread for this since there are SO many threads. The issue I'm having is I got a Samsung galaxy S III that was unlocked, and after I put my ATT sim into it I could recieve texts and calls but I could not recieve data. So I rooted it and applied clockwork with all my mods and figured I could find some setting that would fix it... well I was wrong. I tried global, GSM and LTE settings none of which would give me data. If there is anything anyone can do to help I would be more than appreciative.

While I agree that you should always call at&t so they can register a device to your account, this will not help his current data issue
OP, is this an international s3, T-Mobile or at&t? What firmware/rom is installed? Again, verify your imei is intact

You do realize you're trying to use a cdma phone (verizon) on a gsm network (at&t), right? Different radios. Different technology. Won't work
Well it was unlocked at the phone has a gsm option so if it wasn't compatable I don't see why they would have the option there to actually use a gsm network.

You need to read more.
this phone only supports GSM with EDGE data.* This essentially means that you'll get 2G data speeds (unless you have a WiFi connection) because it doesn't support UMTS/HSPA+ which is required for international and U.S. 3G data. the 4G LTE frequency supported by this phone is only used in the U.S.* For those who don't know UMTS/HSPA+ is the 3G technology used by GSM carriers internationally (and used by AT&T and T-Mobile in the U.S.) which is different from the CDMA/EV-DO 3G technology used by Verizon and Sprint.*
This phone IS unlocked, that part is correct. But only for gsm carriers
So its preventing me from recieving ANY form of data possible?? It is a Verizon phone and I have ATT so you mean it doesn't support GSM then right?

If I'm not mistaken, some Verizon devices will not work on US gsm networks even if unlocked, only foreign gsm networks.

If you are going to stick with AT&T, that is the way to go if you want to have data. No worries. Stupidity is only if you didn't learn anything. You had ignorance of the situation and now your don't. Do some research on any phone before you buy next time (especially if branded from another carrier). This can save you a lot of headaches as you have just learned. Just remember some basics from this forum. Good luck.
Sorry I m a Beginner in the android world, so i will do my best to explain my issue
Please help me all help needed
1) I bought a Galaxy Note 2 from a person - he said that Note 2 was BLOCKED by T-mobile - I verified with T-mobile and the IMEI is indeed theirs and it is BLOCKED - so we know this is a REAL phone, NOT a clone
2) when I bought it he said that the phone was unlocked and is being used on AT&T - I verified and saw that he was using on AT&T network before he Reset everything and gave to me.
3) i went home and put in my AT&T sim and the screen read "Sim Network Unlock Pin" with Unlock and Dismiss button below. I thought this was the sim lock, so i removed the sim lock, but it still show that on the start screen - so here I thought that the Phone Might have been Un-Unlocked due to Reset.
4) I went ahead and follow the direction on how to unlock S3/Note 2 from XDA (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2014982), - btw i did this Successfully on 2 S3 before. Here is another problem: Under Lock Network screen (option 6) I cannot see option 4: [4] NW Lock NV Data INITIALLIZ (Does not exist) - So I have no way of unlocking it since this option is not available.
5) I thought that he did somekind of custom rom, but no - i checked and the Binary counter is 0 - phone status is Normal.
Please help me.
All I want is to use ATT now.
Please help me I will stay all Night till this is solved.
Thanks all in advance.
BTW attached is my About screen in case anyone have question.
*** second issue that we will talk later is - i have another note 2 bought directly from t-mobile with 4.1.2 - this one does not have [4] NW Lock NV Data INITIALLIZ . either. - how weird.
I check at the store and their note 2 4.1.2 HAS that option. !!! - we shall talk about this issue at another time

No, i dont think they share blacklist. When i bought the phone it clearly showed att and use normally, then i took his sim out and reset the phone and brought it home. Test with T-mobile sim right away (i have both tmobile and ATT) - t-mobile say SEARCHING.... it is block so could not find any net work, but when i pop in at&T it said "Sim unlock pin"
Also the reason y i know t-mobile and att don't share the same black list is because i used a blocked s3 on att before

hi,
i did some research and i think T-mobile and AT&T will potentially share the blacklist - but don't know it worked on my s3 before.
I just came up with an IDEA and would like to hear from Pros see if it will work.
What is if Install Samsung ROM - but the international version (usually my t-mobile i would download tar.md5 from t-mobile, same for att). What would happen to my phone if i download and install International rom - would it make my note 2 INTERNATIONAL - that mean it is NOT lock to any carrier?

Stay clear from blacklisted phones. Solves this issue
I hope that blacklisted s3 was not the phone someone stole from me.. I would never buy a Black listed phone. I do know all of them are not blacklisted because reported stolen. But if you take the ability to sell them People will STOP STEALING THEM..
Just as a quick note. In The future it might be best to not Buy blacklisted or bad imei Phones.. Some are from contracts not fulfilled .. Questionable as to rather a carrier should be able to black list or not..
But equally number of them are STOLEN. What if it were your phone.
I so was not going to write this post . But it It really much different then software piracy or buying Stolen goods...
Just my opinion.. Ohh and yes i think the carriers are evil in near every way.
Good Luck and hope you get it fixed but only if it was not a Stolen phone. if it were . Well my above comment will tell you my thoughts.
Is there a way for you to talk to that person and ask him where he got the phone from? i hope this gets resolved ASAP
Hello all
Thanks for helping.
Indeed i have downgraded to 4.1.1 and now have 4 option and was able to unlock it for AT&T
However, i have a silly question that i hope to find a RIGHT answer.
I know that we can do Custom Rom for note 2 - however, I was wondering if we can install ATT OEM Rom to T-mobile note2, or T-mobile OEM Rom to AT&T note 2?
DOnt know if i made it clear enough.
Please help.
Thanks
Hello I am in process of changing carrier from Verizon to T-Mobile. Currently I have a Galaxy S4 and I was told by the store that I could use the phone on the T-Mobile network. I have a few questions I am hoping the community has the answers to that the store or customer support were no help on.
1.) If I put the phone on the T-Mobile network, when an update is released for the phone, will it get it? If id does get it, does it get the T-Mobile or Verizon update?
2.) Is there a way to switch the ROM on the phone (without rooting) from the Verizon to the T-Mobile rom.
3.) I am overall curious if anyone switched their Verizon phone to T-Mobile and if they experienced any issues.
1) probably wouldn't get the update and if so it would be verizons,
2) no.
3) I just switched from Verizon but now have a tmo s4. I'm saving a lot of money and it works out because where I live and work I have excellent coverage.
Update: just reread #3 sorry for the non-answer. Why not just get a tmo s4 and save the worries?

Actually, you CAN switch the ROM on the phone without rooting. Using a custom recovery doesn't require root access. But that's kinda like having your arm amputated so you couldn't get a flu shot in your shoulder...
So the phone will work using a T-Mobile ROM? If I were to do that will I now get future ROM updates from T-Mobile or will it still get the Verizon update

gf reported her phone lost because it was cracked, samsung sent her a new one so now i want her old one. I put in my sim card but it says "Not register to network" im thinking maybe t-mobile blocked the phone somehow since it was reported lost but I figured there was a work around. Friend told me unlocking the phone and setting it to international radios may help but i have no idea how to do this since im new to the android community. Switching from iphone to android! So yeah, please help!

Yup, T-Mobile blocked it.. There's no legal way around it, maybe your gf calling T-Mobile to unblock it, but they'll probably charge her full price for the one they sent her.. You could try using a different carrier, but it could end up being blocked again.. You could also sell it to someone in another country, blacklist won't go past the US

international radios, gonna unlock the sim. My gfs mom is probably going out of the country so if i unlocked it, she could use it outside the US right?and if she can i take it as she'd have to use a carrier other than t-mobile to do this though?
You can't use international radios.. And I don't know, but I would think so, using a local carrier should be fine

gf reported her phone lost because it was cracked, samsung sent her a new one so now i want her old one.
White T-mobile Galaxy S4 on jellybean, updating it to kitkat though.

There are services that will fix this for you. I payed 35$ for my blocked tmobile s4 to be repaired.
I did this with an HTC EVO 3D. It was locked for 2 years so I flashed the phone to a different carrier and it worked. You might have problems with different features but it is posibble to still use the phone. Find a cellular store that will flash it. They normally charge around 50 dollars, give or take.

This is not a CDMA phone, you can't flash it like that.. And like I said, you can unlock it and it may work with another carrier but it can end up being blocked again, I've seen it happen

This happens to me sometimes and what I do is go under mobile networks and
Go to network operators and I let it load and then it registers on the correct network.
